How much do engineer call-outs cost BT?

I'm curious as my internet is being less than useless yet again, I spend more time tethered to my mobile than using our BT internet connection.
I've had engineers out 5 times since last year. I figure I am now going to let nothing slide, I'll contact BT and demand an engineer visit every time I have a problem, it's always an issue their end sure our line is long but they keep fixing it half arsed and lowering my speed.
I'm confident I'll cost BT more money in engineer wages than they cost me for their poor service.

I am going to assume that you have an ADSL connection. There is a special board for this type of connection, now that you have actually stated what the problem is.
I will move this thread to that board, where you should get advice.

I would also suggest, that as it disconnects at the same time each day, the problem is nothing to do with your BT line, and could simply be local interference, and you could be charged for a callout.

    Hi, I'm currently in dispute with BT regarding a £130 engineer call out charge that has been applied to me bill.
    The charge relates to a call out where an engineer visited to try and resolve a poor quality line.  In the process he disconnected our internal phone extension sockets (blaming them for the problem), called his Dad in for back-up and then advised us that we'd be better off calling an electrician than BT.
    Several months later we have now had the problem resolved through our broadband provider - it turned out to be a BT line issue with the local telegraph pole.
    I've found the customer support from BT shocking - the arrogance and lack of customer care is second to none.  I'd be grateful for advice on how to resolve this issue.  Given the level of problem it has caused and BT's approach to date, I would be very willing to pursue this via the small claims court or OFCOM.

    It would have been Openreach that visited, not BT. Openreach look after the external network.
    Any charges that they raised, would be passed back to your phone service provider.

    I just wanted to ask how much would be the monthly cost of hosting a Small instance of Linux VM in Azure.  I doubt this
    detail has all the pricing parameters included. It’s just the VM itself it seems.
    I know there is a pricing calculator but I’m not sure what parameters would be involved for this very basic instance. If you guys can give me an example calculation or at least point me to the basic parameters to include in the calculation, I will really appreciate
    it.
    FYI – these instances will be running a FreePBX system. I hope this helps to point out which parameters should be considered and included in the calculation.

    You cannot replace just the chip. If all of the various solutions suggested in Apple's support documents and here in these forums do not help, you will need to 1) take or send your iPhone to Apple for replacement, 2) pay to have an unauthorized third-party shop attempt repairs, or 3) attempt repairs yourself. The latter two options will void any further support from Apple.

    it depends if you're eligible for an upgrade. you have the iphone 3G, so you just got that around june 2008 or after, so you renewed your contract with at&t regardless if you had been with them since dec 2007. so that's a new 2-year contract. check upgrade availablity on www.wireless.att.com. if not, then you'll have to pay $130 to break the contract and buy the 3G S for $199 or $299 depending on what you like. or the no-commitment price of $599 for 16GB & $699 for the 32GB.
    i have the iphone 3G, and there's really little difference on the 3G S (video,compass etc).. i would just wait for next year when i'm finished with my 2-year contract and when the next gen iphone will be available.. it would be a hassle to break contract now and break contract again on the next gen iphone.. but it's your choice.. good luck..

    The fee is based on the phone purchased under contract:
    Basic phone it's $175 less $5 for each month of completed contract
    Smart phone it's $350 less $10 for each month of completed contract
    So for the Aug. 2015 line, it would be either $240 or $120. The Feb. 2016 would be $300 or 150.

    So apparently my logic board needs to be replaced. I have the apple protection care package, but was told that if I have any liquid spilt on my logic board that I would have to paid to get it fixed. I was just wondering how much one cost, and if my laptop has a blue tint on it would the damage have came from a drink being spilt on it?     Usually if you have to pay for a new logicboard, you might as well buy a new machine because basically the whole computer is the logicboard.
    I've done some thinking about if it's worth it or not to get your machine fixed and have come ot this sort of rough forumla.
    A Mac has a life expectancy of about 4 years
    One needs to determine where along their life expancy their machine is.
    Then divide the investment into the machine, including the cost of new software that won't work on the new OS, by the 4 years, then from that determine if it's worth it to spend the money to get the remaining life out of it or to sell it once fixed and come out ahead.
    If a machine is just out of the 1 year warranty, no AppleCare, costs $4000 originally, then it might be cost feasible to pay another $700 to get the $3000 due on it. Sell it used for $3500 say and the burn is only $200 (4700-3500 - one year use $1000 = $200)
    Usually third party software a mere year old the developer won't have a paid upgrade, but then again with Appel issuing new OS X versions left and right they may, depending upon how much you pay for third party software and what the upgrade price is also is a factor..

  • Engineer called out without reason

    Hello. I recently reported a fault on Friday 18th July. I then called them up on Monday to close the fault. The call advisior was getting confused and thought I wanted to report a fault but got there in the end. (I dont think she even did anything. She was probably trying to get me off the line ASAP!)
    The fault was fixed on Saturday. (The weather stopped being a pain)
    So today, an engineer came around. I said the problem had been fixed and he went off. (felt sorry for him)
    I never called out for an enginner to be deployed. Will I still be charged and can I close this fault so it prevents more people from turning up at my door? Apparently it was the 2nd visit but not that I no of. I was in this whole week!
    I really dont want to be dealing with a £130 charge

    I have had to close it a second time now. I hope this works.
    My Phone fault is still showing and I can't close it. I really dont want to call up as they probably will send ANOTHER engineer out when I didnt ask.
