How much does it cost to change out hard drives

I bought a hard drive to replace my current hard drive in my MacBook Pro laptop. I need to know how much Apple will charge me to change it out. I already have all my important stuff backed up on my external hard drive

You can easily replace the drive yourself - see the videos at http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/. All you need is a simple toolkit such as this.
I don't eve know that an Apple Store would exchange the drive for you - they're using in the business of selling the drives themselves. You may find a local general computer shop in your area that will replace the drive if your not comfortable doing it as a DIY project.
Good luck,
Clinton

my hard drive is making a buzzing sound that comes and goes. Is this the drive, and if it is what is the cost to fix??

It cou be sign of your HDD failing. for less than $100 you can replace with a new one. all depends on the gb size. be sure to copy your drive first with carbon copier first or back up with time machine and do a clean install of OSX with the dvd then transfer your time machine data to the new HDD. look at OWC for more info...

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5s. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.

  • How much does it cost for changing n81 8gb case

    hi
how much does it cost for changing n81 8gb case
in my country (Iran) is 100 dollar and i think in other country is cheaper like UAE . can anybody answer me how much does it cost in other countery?

Changing the case yourself will void the warranty. You are highly likely to cause damage unless you know exactly what you are doing.
Also avoid the 3rd party cases from ebay or places like that as most of them don't fit properly.
A nokia care point can fit original nokia covers for you without voiding the warranty.

  • How much would it cost to replace a hard drive on a 2011 macbook pro? My old one is full!

I have a 2011 Macbook Pro with the 8gb hard drive. My drive is 99% full. I am a photographer and the pictures I have take up 90% of my drive. I have Carbonite so they are all backed up. I can get an external hard drive and dump the pictures there but I would rather keep them on the computer. I can upgrade my OS and increase my memory at the same time.  I can do it myself but my concern is I also have a large iMovie library and I'm not sure what will happen with that if I use Carbonite to restore the new hard drive. Carbonite cannot answer that question.  Will my local Apple Store even do this for me?

No, not  your memory. "Memory" refers to RAM. What you need is "storage space." Storage space is on the hard drive. Were I you I might think about buying a larger HDD to install in your computer. Remove the one you now have and put it into an external enclosure. That is your backup for now as well as what you will use to boot the computer so you can setup the new internal drive.
How to replace or upgrade a drive in a laptop
Step One:Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Step Two: Remove the old drive and install the new drive.  Place the old drive in an external USB enclosure.  You can buy one at OWC who is also a good vendor for drives.
Step Three: Boot from the external drive.  Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager appears.  Select the icon for the external drive then click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Step Four: New Hard Drive Preparation
      1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
      2. After DU loads select your new hard drive (this is the entry with the
mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of
the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive
is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  Otherwise, click on the
Partition tab in the DU main window.
      3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from
the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended
(Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to
GUID  then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and
wait until the process has completed.
      4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the
drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main
          window.
      5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the
Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to
          return to the Erase window.
      6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several
hours depending upon the drive size.
Step Five: Clone the old drive to the new drive
      1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
      2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
      3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      4. Check the box labeled Erase destination.
      5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the
          Destination entry field.
      6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the
          Source entry field.
      7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the new internal drive. Source means the old external drive.
Step Six: Open the Startup Disk preferences and select the new internal volume.  Click on the Restart button.  You should boot from the new drive.  Eject the external drive and disconnect it from the computer.

  • How much does it cost to change a cracked iphone 4 screen?

i cracked my iphone 4 screen and was wondering hwo much it would cost to replace it at apple store.
does verizon insurance on iphone 4 cover this at all?

It's in your best interest to locate an apple store and take it in...explain what happened. Trust me on this. But if you can download the apple store app (on your phone or another device), it will be worth it. With it, you can find a local apple store and set up an appointment. Yes, you need to make an appt. If you don't, they will make one for you when you walk in, but you may have to wait. Don't forget to check in when you get there. I know it sounds like too much work, but it might be worth it. It is more expensive than replacing the earlier iPhones, because they attached all kinds of junk to the screen. They aren't just replacing the screen.

  • How much would it cost to replace the hard drive

I have a 21.5 iMac that need a hard drive replacement (ITB).  does anyone know about how much Apple charges for it?

It will vary from area to area, there is no world wide rate. You should visit your local Apple Store to ask, you can also have an AASP do it, sometimes they can be less expensive. Either way make a list of potential vendors and (for those oldies out there) let your fingers do the walking. To locate either use the Apple Online Service Assistant.

  • How much does Apple charge to replace a hard drive?

I have a Macbook I bought in the Summer of 2008 (not sure the model, etc.) I know it was the smallest memory (a.k.a. cheapest model) if that helps at all.  I got a screen with a flashing folder/question mark this morning and everything I've read points to a hard drive failure.  I did all the troubleshooting that Apple has on the website and nothing worked.  I'm going to take it to the Apple store within the next week, but I was wondering how much Apple would charge to replace the drive.  For the record... I'm NOT tech savvy at all, and I am not going to replace it myself... I know it's cheaper, etc. but it's not worth it to me.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

The brand of hard drive isn't that important to me. They're pretty much all the same. As to size, whatever you think you might need. Look at the ones at Newegg.com. A large hard drive doesn't cost that much more than a small one.
Since your old hard drive died you'll need to start fresh after you've installed the new drive.
    Drive Preparation
    1.  Start up from the installer disk (hold down the C key or hold down the Option key after you hear the chime) When you get to the Install screen select Disk Utility under Utilities on the top menu.
    2. After Disk Utility loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list.Click on the Erase tab and set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) and click Erase
    3. After it has erased click on the Partition tab in the Disk Utility main window.
    4. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    5. Quit Disk Utility and install the Mac OS

  • How much will it cost to replace my hard drive?

My wife dropped my Macbook Pro from countertop hight and the screen cracked so I sent it into iresQ and got the screen replaced for cheep and my computer was lagging bad still. I asked apple what the problem was and they told me that a lens on my hard drive was probably cracked and I should replace my hard drive soon before real problems start to emerge. I did all this over the phone and forgot to ask about cost, this is why I'm posting here.

I asked apple what the problem was and they told me that a lens on my hard drive was probably cracked and I should replace my hard drive soon before real problems start to emerge.
Sorry, "lens"? There is no "lens" in any hard drive. "Lens" could only apply to the DVD-R optical drive. Not to say that the hard drive might not have been damaged in the fall, but there is no "lens", so either someone misheard or someone misspoke.
Before you pay to replace the hard drive, do some basic troubleshooting. Boot your system from the Mac OS X install disk, run Disk Utility, and have it verify the drive. If the drive comes back without errors, the problem is more likely to be software related rather than hardware, though a hardware problem cannot be ruled out. You probably should back up your important data, reformat the drive, and reinstall Mac OS X and your applications and data and then see where things stand.
    Regards.
