Labview isn't cheap, but it would certainly allow you to build a program (set of vi's - virtual instruments) that would do what you describe. Where would the timecode information come from? Your vi, or program, would: Start up, initialize the serial port, loop until a trigger happened, read the timecode (from where?), output that timecode out the serial port in a loop until you pressed the stop button. There is a free evaluation of Labview software available from NI - the base product itself runs about $995.

P.S i tried updating my bootcamp version 3.0.4 in mac os with bootcamp x64 version 3.1 exe but it shows me weird wording..
my bootcamp version in windows 7 is 2.1..

    Uninstall 2.x totally
    Use CCleaner Registry tool
Do whatever you need to to nuke the existing Apple programs and folders hidden here and there also.

  • Will Windows 8.1 upgrade work with Boot Camp on OS X Mavericks?

Will Windows 8.1 upgrade work with Boot Camp on OS X Mavericks?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Of course. Make a backup of your files in Windows, and install Windows 8.1 as an upgrade. The Windows support software supports it without any issue, so if it is updated, you do not have to worry

  • On a new imac how much of the HDD is already used with the OS,iLife,apps..

Looking to buy my 1st ever iMac, the one Im going to get is the base one, with 250Gb HDD (I may upgrade to 320Gb for UK £29 though)
My question is how much of the HDD is already used by OS X and everything on it? I understand there is some free trial stuff onthat can be installed eg MS Office, iWork etc I would want these removed as wouldnt want them so how much is left before you start adding your own stuff
I also want to install Win XP on it so need to know what to do, 250Gb in todays computing is very stingy I think, so I need an idea
    cheers

Here's are some disk usage information from my 20" white C2D. The numbers
are running totals that include periodic software updates and some of my own
stuff -- but that would be less than 0.5 GB of the final total.
OS-X with "no optional packages" is a very usable system; it includes 'core'
applications such as Safari, iTunes, Quicktime. It does not include any of the
iLife apps or the iWork/MS_Office test-drive bloatwares.
The large increase in disk usage for a minimum Leopard system is partly due
to the inclusion of more apps in the 'core' OS package. Some things that were
optional in Tiger have become part of the "minimum" Leopard install.
The Xcode software development tools are a standard part of every OS-X
distribution, but since most customers have no use for them, they're not
included in the factory-installed disk image. If you don't plan to install
them, subtract 3.4 GB from the final tally.
    Factory pre-installed Tiger 10.4.8 & bundled software .................. 16.4 GB
Erase & Install Tiger 10.4.8 with NO optional packages .................. 2.9 GB
SoftwareUpdate to 10.4.10, with NO optional packages .................. 3.1 GB
Erase & Install Leopard 10.5.0 with NO optional packages ............... 6.6 GB
SoftwareUpdate (11/11, immediately after Leopard install) ............. 6.7 GB
Install Xcode SW development tools from Leopard DVD ................. 10.1 GB
    Install & SoftwareUpdate iLife'08 (except iWeb & GarageBand) ....... 12.3 GB
SoftwareUpdate to Leopard 10.5.1.................................................. 12.5 GB
IMO, 250 GB is FAR more than you'll ever need for installable software plus
a sizeable collection of music/photos. OTOH, no amount of disk space will
ever be enough for an avid music/photo/video junkie, and everyone should
have an external backup drive. So, stick with the standard internal drive and
    buy more external storage.
...a billion here, a billion there -- and pretty soon you're talkin' 'bout alot of money,

  • How to run WinXP Pro on iMac using both Boot Camp and Fusion/Parallels

I have read on various forums that there is a specific order in which you need to install Windows XP on an Intel-based Mac (mine is a new iMac running Leopard), so you can run it natively with Boot Camp and simultaneously with OS X 10.5 using a third-party program such as VMWare Fusion or Parallels.
Does anyone know the installation procedure/order in which to install VMWare (or Parallels) and XP (I bought a standalone copy of XP Pro), so that I can also run XP Pro natively using Boot Camp?
I have been using Parallels for a year, but am thinking about switching to Fusion. Any thoughts on which one is preferred would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

I am using Fusion 2.1 on a MacPro Duo. Installed it after creating a boot camp partition.
Follow the instructions with fusion for multiple options. I boot into WXP Pro to use multi-monitors for work-related stuff on a corp. network. Otherwise, I use a virtual machine using the bootcamp partition to run both OS's simultaneously. Fusion is great (USB support, firewire, etc.) but does not yet support multi-monitors. Be sure to install boot camp drivers off of the Leopard DVD on the boot camp WXP machine AND on each/all virtual machines.......then everything works great!
Before you set all of this up, decide how large you want your boot camp partition to be. Once you create it, you cannot change it (and the virtual machine off of boot camp either). I have grown into another hard drive and have to start over from scratch rebuilding my corporate windows machines!

  • Installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with Boot Camp

I am using a 17" MacBook Pro with and Intel i7 2.66 GHz processor, 8GB 1067 MHz RAM and a 7200RPM 500GB hard drive. I am trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit via Boot Camp. I do what Boot Camp tells me to do, but when my MacBook Pro restarts to boot from the Windows 7 disc, all I get get is a white screen! I have tried to boot manually from the Windows 7 disc, but it won't boot. It freezes on the white screen and I have to reboot the Mac using the Mac OS X partition. How can I fix this ASAP so I can install Windows 7? I need to get it done TONIGHT!

I'd recommend posting this in the Boot Camp forum, this is a general MBP forum.
    Regards,
    Roger

  • How to set up AA3 on a mac with Boot Camp (radio production guys please take note!)

    Hi,
I'm the imaging director for some of the Providence Citadel Stations and I want to move all of my production over from PC to a spiffy new iMac.
I know I can run AA3 through boot camp, but as of yet haven't purchased anything until I find out the best way to do this.
I'd love all of your suggestions on what to get and what set up is working for you. I'm done with PC's so don't even bother suggestion it!
My plan is to get an iMac, run boot camp and run windows XP (still available for $89 OEM version from new egg) and move all of my files over using a very large external drive.
    Am I crazy?
By the way, the reason I'm doing this is that my current PC is starting to show signs of not being fast enough for AA3 and the plugins, etc.
    Okay...I await your advice!
    Thanks in advance.

Well, certainly your computer choice is personal - no issue with that - but to claim that a Mac is going to outperform a PC at a comparable price point is something that I don't believe can be verified.
I also build and upgrade my own systems and don't see any particular cost saving over an off-the-shelf model; I just do it because I can design the system exactly the way I want.
Boot Camp is an...interesting...idea but seems overly complicated. Why would anyone want to be required to boot back and forth between operating systems is beyond me, but that's a personal choice.
It just seems vastly more efficient to stick with Microsoft if you love Audition as much as you do. But, if you prefer the Mac OS, Pro Tools LE for the Mac and Apple's Logic are fantastic choices for recording and editing audio.
I'm not really trying to get you to consider PC over Mac but you've made a performance claim that I think has no basis in fact.
Like I said earlier: I run multiple audio editing programs on my PC (AA 3.0 among them) and these programs fly on my PC.

  • Blank Black Screen installing Windows XP Pro SP2 Retail with Boot Camp

    Hi Support Forum -
I am using BootCamp Assistant (3.0.2) to install WindowsXP_SP2_ProRetail on my MacBook Pro 15inch
Mid2009 (10.6.4) plus all the latest updates.
I have no problems creating partitions ranging from 5GB to more than half my HDD of 500GB....but
nothing but one problem when I get to Step 3 of the BootCamp Installation & Setup Guide, page 7:
To install Windows on your Mac computer:
1 a... Open Boot Camp Assistant
    b... Select 'Start Windows installer'
    c... Click Continue
2..... Insert your Windows installation disc
3..... In Boot Camp Assistant, click Start Installation
Your computer starts up from the Windows installation disc
That's as far as I get! First a Gong sound then the gray screen appears and afterwards the screen turns BLACK. After a short while the optical drive starts up and is quite active with either searching
or scanning back and forth for about 5 minutes. Then all activity stops and finally the computer stops
2 minutes later. Interestingly the keyboard was never lit and none of the keys responded to my de-
pressions. I also noticed the aluminum case near the display pivot edge get quite warm probably due
to the black screen so I decided to press the power-off key.
I restarted the computer and held the option key depressed, selected the Macintosh HD icon and pro-
ceeded to the Logs (system.log & the windowserver.log) for any entries about the windows installer
and the optical drive operations....Nothing, nothing! Then I checked the BootCamp HD with Finder,
nothing, -> 0 items were loaded!
I feel at a loss what to do next??? I even ran Techtooldeluxe diagnostic utility from AppleCare, every-
    thing AOK!
Now I had Windows installed successfully when I first had bought my MBP 15 last year. Then I decided
to play around with Parallel Desktop 5, didn't like it and tried to return to Windows and ever since that
time I was not able to install Windows XP. I decided to reinstall OSX to Factory Conditions, did the
7-pass erase for secure delete, installed OSX again without any problems. But Windows still won't in-
stall, get that Blank Black Screen, no cursors!
Perhaps something slipped in with soft- or firmware upgrades for the Graphic/Display 'Nvidia GeForce
9400M that won't let windows installer function properly?
Just for kicks I reinstalled Parallel Desktop 5 and Win/XP installed without any problems.
The Apple Experts in CA couldn't help me either. Now I had hoped there might be a solution to this
    problem at this time?!
I like my MBP very much and I might convert to OSX and it's applications if I can't get an answer to my
problem. I still don't like to give up though and would like to pursue this problem with more diagnostic aids from Tech Support. I know there a lot of OPEN incidents on this particular problem!
If this really is a Windows Installer failure, why does it work with Parallel Desktop 5, there is no BOOT
    CAMP ASSISTANT!!!!
Hope I can get a solution soon from some brilliant expert out there!
    Thanks for your patience,
    Paul370

I know what are you talking about. It looks more like a video compatibility issue in Boot Camp like this one:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1454?viewlocale=en_US
I encountered something similar with a MacBook Pro and despite all searching, i couldn't find a solution. However i am not that expert you are searching for, just the average Mac user
*You may try another XP version, i was able to install a older XP home setup, and updated lately after installing :|*
I am interested myself in a solution from some brilliant expert out there! Keeping an eye on this thread.

  • Can Windows XP SP2 Be Installed With Boot Camp on OS X Mountain Lion?

    Hello,
I use the MacBook Pro Retina and currently have a Windows 7 partition which works fine.
However, if I want to create a Windows XP SP2 partition as well, how can I do that?
I have the install disk, but is it possible to have 2 boot camp partitions? How could I do this?
Also, how can I install Windows XP and have it running successfully?
    Thank you

You don't, just upgrade Windows 7 to Win 7 Pro or above and it will run XP programs and if they don't you can download XP for free from Microsoft and virtualize it within Win 7.

Also, how can I install Windows XP and have it running successfully?
The free Virtualbox, does the job and gets updates on older OS X versions, Fusion and Parallels (commercial software) keep routinely begging for cash or deny you security updates and forces you to upgrade to later OS X versions your machine may later can't handle.

  • Brightness control not working in Windows 8 x64 after sleep with Boot Camp 5.0.2

    Hi,
I am using Boot Camp 5.0.2 with Windows 8 x64.
Wheen the computer has been in sleep mode, and wakes up again, the brightness control won't work as expected.
Usually the screen is to dark (darker than before, what it should be), and after some time pops up brighter as it should be.
Has onyone else seen this issue?
I mean, it seems that for brightness we use the internal control GUI of Windows 8, and not the Apple one that is used in Windows 7 and in Windows 8 for the sound control.
Macbook Pro 13" Retina, early 2013 (brand new) with 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD and 3.0GHz i7.

I have been having the issue of no brighness control when running windows through bootcamp for about 6 months now and have not found any applicable solution online.
While messing around trying to figure it out yet again I noticed that my monitor driver was signed by team viewer...
Sure enough clicking the roll driver back button resolved the issue by rolling the driver back to the Microsoft driver...
    So long story short:
Right click "My Computer" click properties
Click device manager (lop left of window)
    Expand Monitors section
    Double Click monitor
    Click driver tab
If the driver here is not signed by Microsot or Apple click the roll back button. My driver version is 6.1.7600.16385 (Driver date 6/21/2006)
Rolling this back instantly resolved my issue. I will now propagate this post to all the threads I saw regarding this issue.
    I am running windows 7 x64 Ulti on a 15" rMBP.
    Best of luck

  • How to Make the Win7 Enterprise ISO work with Boot Camp?

    Hey...
So I've acquired a new MBA. I didn't really want to considering all the issues out there (of which so far the volume fluctuation issues applies to me as well), but on Friday I need to bring some kind of laptop with me on a trip to record a song for a wedding next month. And for that, to make it worse, I need Winblows.
So I got the Windows 7 Enterprise evaluation ISO. I let Boot Camp modify it and write it to a USB stick.
But when I boot into the thing, I never get to actually install Windows, because I get "Install Windows": "Windows Setup encountered an internal error while loading or searching for an unattend answer file."
    What to do??!?!!

    Hmmm... That's strange!
Seems there are some differences between DVDs for Windows 7 that the Apple tool doesn't know how to handle?
The image I used to install with was the "7600.16385.090713-1255_x64fre_client_en-us_OEM_Ultimate-GRMCULXFREO_EN_DVD.iso " one — I believe I downloaded this from Microsoft at some point when they had it up for developer trials or something?
The MD5 sum of that image is dad9f7a0b4d5d928a6a67ba6cd896350. You can check yours in Terminal by writing "md5 <path to your image file>".
Perhaps if yours is different, you can find that other image online somewhere.

I'm trying to use Boot Camp assistant to install Windows 7. I have a disk, I've done everything right, but for some reason, whenever I click Install on the final Boot Camp prompt, it only gets as far as the Windows is loading files... part after it reboots to the Windows hard drive. I've tried everything, but it still won't work. Im using a 13" MacBook Pro with Retina. It has the latest software version (OS X 10.9.1) and I have a USB with Windows Support Software. The disk is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
I've been trying for the last two days, and I really need help!
    Thanks.

I solved my own problem. I just kept trying, and eventually it worked!
