How much email is downloaded?

When my email syncs over the air to the email server it pulls down the various emails to my phone.
How much of the email is pulled down to the iPhone?
EG: If the original email is 3MB how much does the phone download? I do not see an option for this. On my Windows Smartphone I can set how much of the email to download - Just the headers, xx KB or the entire message.
I am concerened that the iPhone pulls a small part of the email initially which is fine but when you click to open it, it connects again to the server to download the remainig part of the message which can take an age over GPRS.
This is my understanding how it works but I may be wrong....

This is one of the aspects of the iPhone's email app which is bothering me. I love everything about the phone except the email.
For comparison I'm coming from a 2 year old Samsung phone, not a 'smartphone' (model D600). The email app on the Samsung let's me set how much of message to download (I set it to Headers only). It will then show me the total size of the message so I can decide if it's practical to download it.
I can also set it to delete selected or all messages from the server which is great for managing email when I'm on the road and is very useful when I get a large email that I don't need to see and I'd rather not have to download again at home.
The iPhone is rather inscrutable about what it's doing with email, and the 'remove from server' option doesn't work with POP email as others on this board have reported.
So the iPhone email app is lacking in comparison with the email app on an older, not especially powerful handset.
I'm hoping future updates will enhance the mail app which seems to be the least 'finished' app on the phone.

It may be just me but the broadband usage monitor on bt.com isn't working! Everything else on the internet is working apart from this and bt have emailed me to say I've already used 70% of my monthly allowance but I can't check it....
Can anyone else get on to the bt broadband usage monitor?
    Hi. Welcome to the forums.
Have a look at my shortcuts, options 14d-14g. These are slighly quicker ways to access the online meter.
Typically you go to www.bt.com, and click on MyBT. From there login with your Broadband associated username, and click on My Services. Click the green "b" and then View your broadband usage.
When you get to the online meter (which should be similar to my shortcuts option 14g - but with your unique token number at the end) - bookmark that page. When you need to look again, go to your bookmark and it should either request your login details - after input will take you directly to the meter, or if you are already logged in - it will show the meter.

  • How can I see what, when and how much has been downloaded from the net?

I use a satellite internet service which limits me to only 200Mb of downloads in a 24 hr period. Should I go over, I am "locked out" of my internet service for the next 24 hr period. Lately I have been locked out without thinking I have downloaded anything. I am wondering if there is a place on the computer I can look to give me an idea what has been downloaded and when? I did change the Apple software update to not "automatically update important files" but I am wondering are there any other programs or anything the system may be downloading automatically without me knowing and what can be done to rectify it?
    Thanks

Thanks for the thoughts. Here is some more for consideration. I was locked out yesterday and when I finally got out of "lock up" today, I went to my satellite internet provider's site to see how much and when it was downloaded. I booted my machine at about 10 AM yesterday and according to their site between 10 and 11 AM I downloaded 188MB of data. Then from 11 AM to Noon they said I downloaded another 28MB which then resulted in my being locked out of the internet until noon today. During that time I was on the net, I initiated no downloading from any site nor did I have any video streaming. What is frustrating is I have no idea what is being downloaded or how much. Most other days of the week it appears that downloaded material is 75Mb or less and I can remember generating the downloads.Looking at their site, the "downloading" of mystery material begins quickly after booting the computer which leads me to believe, as Kappy was saying, this is likely something like Apple Software updater or such set to "Download on Startup". I guess I'm not quite sure how to check to see what is set to "Download on Startup" and how to make sure nothing downloads at startup unless approved by me. Any thoughts?

bootcamp is downloading windows support for win7 and my internet connection is very slow(30kB/sec). i want to know how much it downloads to estimate the time needed.(i have macbook air 2013)

It depends on the model of Mac and which version of Windows to a certain degree. It can certainly amount to more than 700MB

  • How do you stop updates on apps once you have selected to update all?  I am limited on how much I can download daily and I need to STOP the updates

I only have a limited amount to download daily and I need to stop the updates.

Deletion of apps works as you describe EXCEPT in the case of apps that are pre-loaded as part of the iOS.  Apps that are part of the iOS cannot be deleted by the user.
To free storage space, try removing unneeded videos, photos, music that take a very large amount of space.

  • I am getting so much email after downloading Yosemite.  Reset preferences but it hasn't helped.  Any suggestions??

After downloading Yosemite something has happened to my junk mail filter.  I am getting 40-50 junk mail messages daily.  I went in and reset the junk mail preferences but it hasn't helped.  Any suggestions???

There is only one way to uninstall MacKeeper.
    Uninstall MacKeeper
Lord knows what it may have done to your system already, or what you may have done manually deleting items. I would suggest you backup and reinstall Yosemite. As for installing another browser, you can install anyone you like that is compatable with Mac. Chrome. FireFox, Opera etc. It's always been this way. You are not obliged to use Safari as your default browser.
    Cheers

  • What is the best app for following of the download? I mean how much I downloaded using WIFI and how much 3D download.

I would like to follow the amount of MB I downloaded and to know how much data was downloaded using WIFI and how much using 3G (internet connection by phone network provider as AT&T and so...).
Thank you very much for any suggestions.

Personally I have tried LogMeIn Ignition, Splashtop, and AlwaysOnPC, as well as TeamViewer. Although LogMeIn Ignition is expensive I would also have to say that it is the best one I've tried. Apart from viewing the computer's screen, you can access the files and folders in a standalone file browser interface without seeing the computer's screen, this speeds things up a lot.
As for security, I'm not too sure, as the website for LogMeIn does not seem to list the details. But as with any other internet based service, like email and social networking sites, an additional account of any sort will increase your vulnerability, even if it's just by that small amount. You can try accessing the computer through a VPN when on a public wifi network for added security. However about the virus, I don't think that is possible... No need to worry about your iPad getting a virus.

  • How can I see how much data passes through my Time Capsule?

I am thinking of using a cellular data plan at home. My current, rural internet provider is slow and unreliable. I use a MiFi as a backup and have 4G service which is much faster and rarely goes down. I need to see how much data is downloaded and uploaded to compare costs. All our data passes through my Time Capsule.

A similar app to what Bob mentions is peakhour.. it works on any of the newer OS.
    https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/peakhour/id468946727?mt=12
It is a good app. BUT.. fat ugly BUTT.. just the same as Bob has explained, it depends on SNMP to work.. and so due to apple removing a very useful and functional protocol from its airport range you can no longer use it. Bizarre.
I strongly recommend a Netgear WNDR3800 (older model now but you can pick up one cheaply on ebay) and a 3rd party firmware called gargoyle. Apple delete my posts if I point you to it, so you will have to search yourself.
Replace your tall TC with the Netgear as the main router.. bridge the TC to it and you can continue to use its wireless and for TM backups. The advantage is that gargoyle will not only measure everyones usage, by IP, it is able to set a quota on everyone using the net and you can set that quota for hourly, daily or weekly or monthly. It will track the usage and you can see at a glance what everyone has used.
It is simple to load.. just like a standard firmware update. The interface is as clear as anyone can make it with such of lot of tools. And the actual router is powerful enough to provide excellent QoS and parental controls on top of measurements and quota.

Hi grantsmith82, I can't understand your point. You say you are on "UNLIMITED" Infinity and then because you are a heavy downloader want to know how much you have downloaded.
    Why.
    You are unlimited.
The only restriction is P2P Protocol(torrents). These can be heavily throttled at peak times.

  • How do I monitor download/upload volumes by website

I'm using NetLimiter to see which applications are using the net and how much each is downloading and uploading. From that I can see that Firefox, my main browser, is the biggest contributor. Is there a way of analysing FF download/upload volumes by website?

  • How do I get my emails to download both on my iMac and iPhone the same?

I have recently got an iPhone 5.  I also use Mail on my iMac computer.  How do I get my emails to download both on my iMac and iPhone, the same?  (If I currently fetch my emails on the iPhone, then they don't then appear later when I want them on my iMac and I need to forward them to myself again - crazy!) And can I also receive sent emails on both too?  I need identical email lists on both.  Thank you, in anticipation!

If you are using POP email accounts, this is how they are designed to work.  POP mail gets offloaded from the mail server onto the device used to access it, so it will not show up on another client later as it literally no longer is stored on the server.  It may be possible for you to configure your POP mail account to keep messages on the server, so they will always appear every time you access your mail (from any device).  The downside of this is that most POP accounts have limited online storage, and the messages will never disappear until you manually delete them, so if you are not very diligent at cleaning out read mail, you run the risk of your account filling up.
Really, for what you want, you should switch to an IMAP mail service.  IMAP mail is always stored on the server, not on any one client/device, so it is always accessible from any client on any device.  Given that, most IMAP accounts have much larger online storage than most POP accounts, since the mail is intended to stay on the server.
Check with your email provider and see if you can switch your account(s) over to IMAP.  If not, there are a number of free IMAP providers, such as gmail from google.

  • How much of my data plan is used to display emails on phone?

I am very new to having a smart phone, so i have lots of questions. I linked my phone to me email account and it displays them on my phone. If I just browse the list of emails without opening any of them, I am curious about how much of my data plan (1G) I am going to use. I know I will use more if I open them, but if it uses a lot of data to merely have them displayed, I will disable it.

There are some options in your email client which would obviously affect how much data is used. That and the amount/type of emails you receive.
Do you have your email client set to automatically download attachments? This would increase data, especially if you receive a lot of email with attachments.
It would also depend if you have your client set to download the email when it is received, not when opened.

  • After I've heard an audiobook downloaded from the public library, how do I delete it from the Shuffle?  When I plug it into my computer, I get a screen showing how much space is left on the Shuffle but no list of files that I can delete.  WRA

After I've heard an audiobook downloaded from the public library, how do I delete it from the Shuffle to make room for other audiobooks?  When I plug it into my computer, I get a screen showing how much space is left on the Shuffle but no list of files that I can delete.  These books, incidentally do not appear in the ITunes screen.  WRA

Select the iPod shuffle in the iTunes sidebar (under DEVICES).  If this is a current 4th (or 3rd) gen iPod shuffle, you should be able to see the contents of the shuffle by type, intented under the shuffle's name (still in the sidebar).  Select Music or Audiobooks (not sure where those items from the library will be listed).  The items will be listed to the right, for each category.  Find the items, select, and delete.
It's on page 20 of the manual
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iPod_shuffle_4thgen_User_Guide.pdf
NOTE:  If this is an 1st or 2nd gen iPod shuffle, select the iPod shuffle in the iTunes sidebar (under DEVICES).  Over to the right, go to the Contents tab, where the items are listed.  Select and delete them from this list.
I find it more convenient to make a playlist in iTunes with things I want to put on the shuffle.  I then set up automatic syncing (or use autofill) to have iTunes load the shuffle from that playlist, automatically.
