How MUCH heat is acceptable coming from iMac/iSight?

My week-old iMac/iSight is getting very hot in the upper lefthand corner of the screen. Sometimes it's almost too hot to touch.
I've talked with several Apple Techs and went through the usual hardware tests. Nothing was found.
But eventually this much heat is going to do further damage to either the screen or other hardware. Being only a week old...shouldn't they just replace it if they can't determine the problem? I don't want to be stuck with a machine that melts down in a week or month and then end up in the repair shop time after time.
iMac/iSight   Mac OS X (10.4)

QGrayson:
On the iSight, the processor is in about the upper left quadrant as you face the computer. That seems to be where most of the heat is generated. When you feel the back of the computer case, it will be warmer than else where. It also seems to be warmer where the Apple emblem is on the front. There is an exhaust vent-really slits-that goes across the back at the top. The exhaust air coming out of the left back is warmer than from the right back. Mine has never been hot. Warm yes but never hot. Also, when I touch the bottom where the grill goes across the computer, it seems cool there. At least with my computer.
Regarding temperature sensors. Whenever I give values I add that I am using the processor at the highest and the screen is the brightest. People give temperatures but do not specify strength processor is being run or brightness of the screen. These do affect the temperature sensors.
Using Hardware Monitor, mine are as follows:
ODD 104.9, HD 112.1, NB Amb. 140.9, NB 164.3, GPU Amb. 133.0, GPU 130.6, Incoming air 86.9, CPU 129.6. CPU current is 1.74.
These are the numbers right now. I have Firefox, Safari and Hardware open. The room temperature is no where near 86.9. I can only assume this sensor is not really measuring room temperature which is about 68-70 as per thermostat.
I don't think my number are high or go higher. They have been lower. Also, my fan speeds do not vary very much.
This only confirms to me the iSight runs at a lower temperatures the the earlier models.

how do I copy Aperture app from iMac to Macbookwith different ID ?

    Do you mean
" Macbook with different Apple ID "   ?
If you bought Aperture on your iMac from the App Store using a different AppleID, sign into the Apple Store on your MacBook with exactly that Apple ID.  (Use the "Store" menu. First sign out and then sign in with the other ID)
Then reload the "Purchased" page. You should see now Aperture ready for download.  Install it.
Then sign out of the store and back in with your regular AppleID on that Mac.  If you are notified of updates, you will have to switch between AppleIDs again to install the update.

How do you sync mail folders from iMac(lion) to my iPad?

Is your email account an IMAP account? If not, the folders will not sync.
If your email account is a POP account, you can create folders and mailboxes in the Mac mail app and those folders will be for local storage and organization on the Mac only. That is a feature of the Mac mail software. Those folders/mailboxes will not sync if you do not have an IMAP account.

  • How much heat can an iSight take?

I am using 2 iSights as security cameras in my garage watching the outside of my house. Yesterday it was about 95 degrees outside which is a little warmer than it usually gets where I live. In the garage it was scorching hot and my iSights were hot to the touch. How much heat can they take and should I put little fans on them to cool them?

  • How to store the data coming from network analyser into a text or excel file

    Hii everyone
I'm using Agilent 8719ET network analyser and wish to store the data coming from netowrk analyser into a text file/ excel file.
Presently I'm able to get the data on Labview graph using GPIB . Can anyone suggest how to go ahead after collect data sub vi. How can the data be stored into a file apart from showing on the graph?
Attached is the vi for kind consideration...
    Looking for help

First let me say that your code really looks pretty good. The data handling could be made more efficient by calculating the number of datapoints that are going to be in the completed dataset and preallocating the entire array -- but depending upon your answer to my questions, the logic in the lower shift register may be going away - so we won't worry about that right now.
The thing I need to know before addressing the data storage question is: Each time you call "Collect and Display Data.vi", how many element are in the array? Are you reading single data points, or a group of data? (BTW: if the answer to that question is obvious based on the way the other VIs are setup, I don't have the drivers so I can't tell what the setup values are.) Second, how fast does the loop iterate? Are we talking msec per loop?, seconds? fortnights?
The issues here are two-fold: how much data? and how fast is it coming? The answer to these will tell you how to save the data.

  • How much lifespan should I expect from MBA 2013?

Never been into Macs before, but finally going with one. My laptops usually lasted me 2-3 years.
How much would a standard macbook air last? and what if I add 8GB Ram ( not money issue, but rather that I might not find it available where I live.)
Use will be office/programming on bootcamp.
    Assignments/web surfing/studying/music/movies on OSX.

It is really hard to say - we've not had a computer that cannot be upgraded in a very long time. It might be that as software and the OS is upgraded those of us with 4GB of RAM might find our performance lagging from the lack of RAM. People with only 2GB are already experiencing it. And Apple does tend to stop supporting computers after a certain time period - that tends to be about 5-6 years - at which point you cannot upgrade to the newest and snazziest operating system. But it doesn't necessarily mean the computer isn't usable.
To put it in perspective, I have a 4 year old notebook that can be upgraded to Mavericks when it is released and I have every expectation that it will run it well. Will Apple still support it when the next OS is released? Will it run that new OS well if Apple does support it? Both good questions that can't be answered.
A college student just recently bought my 6 year old iMac which runs Mountain Lion okay but not spectacularly. He installed Snow Leopard (two versions older) which it runs like a charm. He's a happy camper and I'd not be surprised if he's still using it when he graduates in 3 years. Why do I say that? Because among other things I have a 2003 iMac in my guest bedroom that is quite happily running Snow Leopard.

  • How much hard drive RPM can this iMac handle?

    Hello!
In my office there's an *iMac Indigo G3 @ 400Mhz* (serial number RN03820ZJV8) and I need to replace its hard drive with a new one with more capacity.
Am being offered hard drives with different RPMs (5,400, 7,600, etc.) but I need to know how much can this IMac model handle, I don't want to over-heat it.
However, I couldn't find that specific data on apple's web site...
So as an alternative way of knowing this I thought that it would be a good idea to know the RPM of the current hard drive as it has worked well for several years:
    "*Fujitsu MPG3204AH E:*", capacity of 19.09GB (serial number: VL00T1A09W09).
But I haven't been able to find that info either!
Anyone out there who can answer:
1.- What's the maximum amount of RPM this specific iMac model can handle without overheating?
    And/or:
2.- What's the RPM for that specific hard drive?
    Best!
    Danny

Several years ago, there were concerns about the faster 7,200 RPM drives causing heat issues in the convection-cooled, slot-loading iMacs. In actuality, the hard drives manufactured today run more smoothly, cooler, and quieter than the first generation of 7,200 RPM drives. You won't have any problems installing a 7,200 RPM drive. The onboard IDE controller can only recognize a maximum formatted drive capacity of 128 GBs, so a 120 GB drive is ideal, but hard to find now. A 160 GB drive is usually the smallest drive stocked by many retailers today, but it would only be recognized as 128 GBs after formatting. As for the Fujitsu MPG3204AH-E drive, the "AH" in the model number indicates a 7,200 RPM drive, whereas earlier drives with "AT" in the model number were 5,400 RPM drives.

  • How to import .MOV files coming from everio camcorder ?

How can I import  .MOV files coming from everio camcorder to imovie ? All I've tried failed, iMovie doesn't want my files, or even recognize.
    All answer welcome.
    Thanx

JVC released the Quicktime Components update:
    <http://www2.cli.co.jp/products/ne/update_qtc_for_gzhd7/qtc3e_update.htm>
which should take care of TOD files playing in Quicktime, but:
The answer to your question depends on which model JVC camcorder you have.
    Here are a few basics:
    1. If you have a JVC HD Everio that records in the AVCHD high definition file format (.mts file extension), and you have an Mac with an Intel processor, (sound like you do) running iMovie '08 or '09, then it should  be no problem. Simply connect the camcorder via USB and launch iMovie.
    2. If you have a slightly older JVC HD Everio that records MPEG2 high definition (.tod file format), then it is easiest if you record in the special 1440CBR mode, and transfer your video to your Mac using an i.Link (Firewire Connection) using the "Playlist Dubbing" process which is explained in your owner's manual.
See also this post from Chris at JVC dated March 4, 2010 at the end of this thread:

  • .DMP file - how to find where its coming from

We are hosting oracle xe on a computer, there are some XT tables , I have to change some data in 1 of the tables.
When I look at the sql for the table it shows it is created by a .dmp file, I found the .dmp file and its named todays date, so it must be updating daily with a new .dmp file every day.
Is there a way I can find out how this .dmp file is being created or where it is coming from ?

    I'm confused...
What are "XT tables"? Is that a schema name? Some component of the table name? An abbreviation for the application?
When I look at the sql for the table it shows it is created by a .dmp fileI'm not sure what you mean. What SQL are you looking at and how can you tell that it was generated by an import and not a user simply executing the DDL? Oracle does not generally know how a table came to exist.
I found the .dmp file and its named todays date, so it must be updating daily with a new .dmp file every day. Most likely, Oracle has no idea who is initiating an export. I suppose someone might have configured a job using DBMS_JOB or DBMS_SCHEDULER in the database that is generating a dump file. But it's far more likely that some operating system scheduler somewhere has a job that connects to the database and does an export.
