OK... now subtract the music. That's not part of the iPhone backup. Neither are apps, but in app data is.
Why are you asking? Did you get an error?  If so, then clear out some disk space.

I hope I am allowed one dumb question.  If so, I would like to know how much disk space should I allow when setting scratch files, if my MTS file is 16GB?  I am using Premiere Pro CS5 on a PC with Windows 7 Pro-64 bit.

All of it.  Put them on a large disk (500GB or more) and just let PP take care of the rest.

As far as I know, AppleCare Plus only covers up to two incidents of accidental damage from handling; it doesn't cover a lost phone.

Try running XP in a VM or aquire Windows 7 which is the only one supported now.
And you will need more like 60GB for Windows 7, so I would skip on 20GB just to be safe.
20G is a fine minimum for XP, I was not responding to any inquiry about Win 7.

  • How much RAM should I install for new iMAC ?

    Hi,
How much RAM should I install for new iMAC* running Logic Studio? It comes with 4 GB - is that enough? (can you run in 64 bit mode..)
    *(The 21.5" 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo)
Also, I was planning to get the stock 1 TB Hard Drive & save projects to an external drive.
    Does that sound reasonable?
    Any other recommendations?
    Thanks,
    Wm Heart

Unless you plan on running huge projects with enormous sampled instruments, 4 GB will do (very) fine. And your disk plan is sound. Choose an external Firewire drive, rather than USB. FW is easier on the CPU and can handle more tracks than USB.
What you should get, instead of more memory, is a (24 bit) external audio interface, if you want to do serious recording and playback.
What type of audio interface you'ld need, depends on what you want to do with it and of course your budget. From decent to brilliant costs from roughly 100 to several 1,000's of europounddollars. Avoid the 16 bit ones, they're worse than the inbuilt audio chip of your iMac. You can recognize 16 bit Audio Interfaces (in webshops) by their prize (often under 100€£$) and the lack of mention of their bitrate.

  • How much memory do I need for iPhone?

Before I purchase an iPhone 4s I would like to know how much memory I might need.  I will have some songs though currently I use only about 2GB on old iPod.  I will no doubt have some pictures and perhaps a video and, of course, some apps though I really don't know how many. I tentatively planned to buy 16GB.  My daughter is shooting for 32GB.  Suggestions and guidelines? Thanks

Hi, from what you have said above, the 16GB iPhone 4S seemsmore than enough space for a user with the outlined above, bearing in mind youdo not necessarily get 16GB, as there is the operating system and otherprogrammes that use memory, for example I have a 64GB iPhone 4S and it comeswith 57.42 GB or storage.
If you purchase a 16GB and you do seem to be running out ofspace, you can always back up your data to a computer and it can be deletedfrom your phone - meaning you have more space. If you are worried about havingthis problem 32GB will probably be the best option and will be more thanenough.
Hope this helps, any further questions feel free to ask, andI will try to answer them.

  • How much free space is needed to update an iPhone to iOS 6 using WiFi?

I have an iPhone 4 and want to know how much free space is necessary to update to iOS 6 using WiFi (not through a computer). I updated another iPhone with a MacBook Pro and it stated that I needed 2.5 GB of free space. My son has the other iPhone and he has to update via WiFi.
    thanks

I think it might be different depending on what version you're running at the moment.
I upgraded my iPhone 4 with 5.1.1 to iOS 6 and it was about a 800 MB download by WiFi.

  • IPhoto DVD Burn, How much extra space is needed?

I did a few tests, and each time, I found the same result.
If I filled a disc (DVD or CD) to nearly capacity, iPhoto couldn't burn the disc, saying that there was an error. When I burn a 4.7 gig DVD to 4.0 gigs, the disc burns successfully. How much 'extra' space do I need to leave for iPhoto to burn correctly?
    TIA

    Benson:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What you're running into it the disparity between what iPhoto reports as the size of the select photos and what it needs to burn an iPhoto disk. As you know there's a big difference. Check the iPhoto Library folder size in the Finder and compare that to what iPhoto indicates when you click on the main library icon. The difference will be all the thumbnails, original files, modified files, data and database files. My test library is 74 via iPhoto and 98MB via the finder. That's a lot of overhead.
I guess I would keep the iPhoto reported size to about 4.2G max. when burning to a DVD disk. Of course it would vary depending on the number of edited photos are in the batch you selected.

  • Is there a way to access iCloud to find out how much storage space I need to install music on iPhone? Genius Bar was not very helpful...

I have several questions I could not get answered yesterday...
Does the number of songs listed on iPhone represent music available on iPhone or in iCloud.
How do find out how much space of music you have in iCloud you need for iPhone to download all music?
Is there a easier way to get the music available in iCloud downloaded to iPhone without separately downloading each album separately?
Last question...if the music is not downloaded...does it get played at all when on wi-fi?

Both. If you have the setting to "show all music" set to ON you will see all music that is available. If the setting is set to OFF you will only see music that is stored locally on the device.
    Gordon49 wrote:

iTunes Match does not use your iCloud storage.

Music can be downloaded by Album, Artist or Playlist. Or you can disable iTM, sync music via USB, then re-enable the iTM service.

    Yes.

  • How much ram do i need for serious video editing?

early 2008 2X2.8 Quad Core Intel Xeon Mac Pro, with 8 GB RAM (8X1GB sticks), 2 @ 1.5 TB hard drives +. Use Final Cut Express for video editing. CS4 for typical daily workflow. How much RAM do i really need to make this a powerhouse video editor?

To make any 'good' recommendations it would be helpful to know what you are editing - DV, SD, HD? That is a big factor in determining specifications.
If you do more than one stream of HD, you will eventually want an external video drive solution from CalDigit, Dulce, Promax, G-RAID, or any of the others you see on the side. And it also depends on what 'flavor' of HD - I doubt your running 1920x1080 uncompressed 10-bit HD off of one drive. an external RAID array might seem like overkill. Generally, the advantages are increased speed (necessary for dealing with uncompressed, high-res footage) and redundancy so you don't lose everything if a single drive dies.
Get AJA System Test to test the speed of your logical drives so you can get an estimate of what you are looking at.
You really DON'T want your OS and programs on the same drive as your media files. It'll cause performance bottlenecks and all kinds of grief.
Those WD 10K 300-600GB drive is perfect for your OS, applications, and swap files. That's ALL that you want to have on it, and add one or even two faster drives as a RAID 0 pair for more speed and space. Get at least one 7200RPM drive for video/graphics/etc.
    For your video storage:
The hard drives you mentioned are fine for standard definition video. However, if you want to edit high definition or otherwise have complex / advanced ideas for your projects, you'll need something with higher read rates than just those single drives. This gets pricey, so depending on what you're intending to do, may not be appropriate for you.
During video CAPTURE your hard disks need to be able to write at a speed meeting or exceeding that video data stream. If other programs use the same disk you are saving too, then you have and increased change of missed writes to the drive. That is why they suggest having a seperate set of disks for capture. Not a bad idea.
    *Strip size*
should be => 128K, I would use 256K. More importaint is cluster size. The default is 8 K which is good for the operating system plus programs as over 50% of the files are =< than 8K. For large files (is dot VOB can be 1 gig) it is not the best. When you write a large file each clustter contains a pointer to the next cluster that is to be read. I used 32K, or 64 K (at work so not sure) cluster size for my disk containing Pitures and video. The size of the file allocation table is also reduced by using the larger cluster size.
Back in 2007, this is what was recommended:
    <a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://">http://www.manifest-tech.com/mediapc/pc_syshd.htm

If you need to convert HD to SD, then you want hardware like the AJA Kona LHi or Kona 3 and those require a Mac Pro. If you go that route, get the fastest Mac Pro you can afford, minimum 8GB RAM, ATI 4870 card.

  • How much render space is needed?

I am mystified. I do only light duty editing for my sample reels but I thought I knew how to set things up, but I've run into a snag here.
I shot and am going to edit a concert video for a friend. First step is burning him a DVD of the whole show, so he can tell me what songs to use. For this no actual editing is necessary. I dedicated one partition (80GB) of my second internal drive, NOT my system drive, to the project.
I imported both tapes (DV) of the show, each about 12.5 GB, plugged them into the timeline, and went to render. The computer slugs along for a long time then gives me the 'insufficient disk space' message. When I check the volume it shows the render file for the sequence being 53GB--and it's not even done!
'Get info' for the sequence shows the codec as being uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2, which is not only overkill, but it's not what I selected in the sequence preset.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Alan

Immediately after my posting I went back to the program and simply created another sequence. It came up as DV, NTSC, anamorphic, etc. and even with the two hour-long segments it didn't need to be rendered.
The funny thing is that I didn't change anything in the presets or settings, so why the original sequence came up so hi-rez I don't know.
As in so many things computer related, just going back and starting over seems to have solved the issue!
    Thanks!
    Alan

I can't run itunes, quicktime or upgrade anything on my mac mini has osx 10.4 it says I need 10.5 to download it has 256mb of mem do I have enough memory?

I would at least upgrade to 2GB RAM, if not 4
10.5 is not oficially sold but i'm sure if you call an Apple store or dealer you can snag a copy, you can find them online but usually pretty expensive. Below are the requirements for Leopard (10.5)
A Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or Power PC G4 (867 MHz or faster) processor
    512 MB memory or more
    A DVD drive for installation
9 GB of available disk space or more
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider, fees may apply.
Some features require Apple's MobileMe service; fees apply.
