Thank you for the answers I will get!

Before selling, don't forget to erase your hard drive and reinstall the original OS as any OS obtained from the app store is not transferable; its' license is tied to your Apple ID, and it would cause nothing but grief for the buyer.

  • How much my Mac is worth after one year

I am interested how to calculate how much is my Mac worth after one year. If someone can help I would appreciate.

If you sell it yourself, figure about 2/3's of the original purchase price, if in excellent condition, with box, DVD's & all accessories...perhaps a little more with the right buyer...less if you're missing all that stuff.

  • How much are 2008 iMac approximately worth?

How much do the 2008 model iMacs go for approximately?

I have a late 2006 iMac that was purchased in 2007. From what I see it started having GPU failures (lines on screen - but not in safeboot) Seeing all the common GPU failures with those models and even with newer ones, I will not be investing in a $2000 machine with Apple anymore. They are not willing to work with me even though the failure happened last year or so and we had no idea that this was a manufacturing defect. They have helped many customers and because the rep felt like he doesn't feel like helping me, they have lost me as an iMac customer.
I don't feel comfortable paying more for their products anymore. Being an owner of almost all of Apples line, I feel cheated and betrayed. We are paying more for their quality yet we get nothing in return. It's distgusting. /end rant.
I will never purchase a brand new iMac anymore. So this is the reason I'm looking for an older model..for my kids who are interested in Objective C and for educational purposes.
oh and eBay does not work well in my country because of high shipping costs which is why I wanted to ask here to see what a fair price would be. There are only 2 iMacs for sale. One is on bid for $150 + 4 days and the other is $600 / no bids.

  • How much is my mac worth in UK £s?

    Hi
This is probalbly not the right place but I was hoping someone might know how much I might expect to get for this mac on the open market in the UK and what's the least I should accept?. It's been upgraded to 512MB ram.
The Apple iMac G3/400 DV Special Edition (Slot Loading), based on the Kihei architecture, features a 400 MHz
PowerPC 750 (G3) processor, 512k backside level 2 cache, 512MB of RAM, a 13.0 GB Ultra ATA hard drive, a slot
loading 4X DVD-ROM drive, ATI Rage 128 VR 2D/3D (AGP 2X) graphics with 8 MB of VRAM, 2 USB ports, 2
Firewire "400" ports, a VGA video out port for an external monitor, 10/100 ethernet adapter, 56.6K modem and
support for an optional AirPort (802.11b) wireless card and a Harmon-Kardon designed sound system packed into a
translucent "graphite and ice" all-in-one case design with a 15-inch CRT display.
    Thanks
    Pete

Well this company (2ndchancePC) is selling similar models for £69. I think you'd be lucky to get that price for it. Remember original install disks are an important part of the sale.

  • About how much to replace iMac Intel 20-inch motherboard?

Hello. Can anyone (in the UK) tell me about how much it would cost to replace the motherboard on a 20-inch Intel iMac? Mine is slowly dying (details below), in particular with graphics problems. Thanks.
More or less from the outset, my 20-inch iMac had an intermittent fault where occasionally it would start or wake up with major graphics problems (see http://tinyurl.com/iMacFault1). As I'd bought it from an Apple retail store, the only thing they would accept is for me to bring it back to the store (difficult, in my case) and have them examine it. I've been there before: I'd go to the trouble of bringing it back, they'd test it, it wouldn't fail, they'd say there was nothing wrong etc. They weren't interested in the photographs of the fault. So, I let it go.
Of late, it's more often suffered from a slight shimmering with video (which you can often clear by powering down and up) and/or rows of corrupted pixels in windows (see http://tinyurl.com/iMacFault2). Very recently, it's started to freeze completely.

The cost is prohibitive to the point you would be better off getting a new machine and selling the old one on eBay for parts. I don't recall the exact amount, but a new logic board for my 17" iMac was somewhere in the $650 range (~409 £). Apple should be able to quote you a price for the replacement to give you an exact idea.
If it is still under warranty and freezing consistently, go back to the store. iMacs aren't cheap to replace so you may try insisting they take a harder look at it. Best of luck!

  • HT1338 How much is a iMac 20-inch widescreen computer 2007 going for now of days?

So I am going to try to sell my iMac 20-inch widescreen computer from 2007, and I am trying to use that money to buy a MacBook Air before August 14th and I was just wondering how much I should sell it for.

As a buyer of a used computer, I value installed software at zero, since I already have the apps I want. An erase-and-install on a used computer is sensible anyway, to get a clean system.
On the other hand, I value Applecare on a used computer at at least half of the cost of the coverage, and the third year of warranty is the most valuable one!

  • I need to know how much longer my iMac will be good for

Hi Everyone... need some help if you have some time please..... Thanks in advance!
I bought this used iMac in 2010 and it's been great except that I can't upgrade anymore on it. I have snow leopard and I was told my Apple this is the last upgrade for this computer.
That worries me because my internet browsers will eventually stop working when more they upgrade and my computer is still runing on Snow Leopard.
Can anyone tell me how much longer I'll be able to keep this Mac before I have to replace it? It still works perfectly.

Thanks for responding! so helpful! I was told by apple reps I can't upgrade to Lion and you stated the same thing but then you said if I 'move to lion 10.7' I would be able to?
My firefox doesn't work very well on this computer it's really slow and doesn't load sometimes. and If I use tumblr it's even worse. I can't even scroll.
My main concern is the browser upgrades. I want to make sure this computer can still be upgraded (so I can use netflix for at least another year or 2 etc etc)
Lion is 10.7, Mountain Lion is 10.8.
You should max out your RAM, but the Firefox issue may or may not be RAM related. If you restart and open no other applications but Firefox, do you still experience problems? If you don't, then it's most likely RAM related.
It may be an Add-on responsible for the slow loading. Quit Firefox then reopen it in safe mode, by holding  down Option(alt). This will disable all Add-ons. If it appears to work better there, then you need to test by disabling each Add-on one by one to see which is the culprit.
It may also be a corrupted Profile in your Firefox folder. Option-drag the entire Firefox Folder located in your user Library>Application Support. This will make a backup, which you can restore later. You will know it's copying when you see a small circle with a plus sign inside. Don't do this if that doesn't appear. There is a more elegant way to do this, but it may be trickier to get going than what I have suggested.
Next, get a new Firefox application and install that. Doing this will create a new Firefox folder and Profile in that location. See how that one behaves. If it's better, then post back and I can tell you how to migrate things over from the old Profile. If it isn't, then just return the original Firefox folder to that location and allow it to replace the new one.

  • How much is my computer worth ?

    Hello,
I'm planning on buying a Macbook Pro 2012 but I'd like to do something of my Macbook that's been my faithful compagnion so far. To this day, I still don't know whether I want to give it away or sell it, but this is why I'm gathering informations.
I have no idea of much my computer is worth today and I was wondering if you all, could help to price it.
Bellow : Screenshots of my computer's configuration, it is all in French but I'm sure it'll be easy to decipher, if in doubt though, don't hesitate to ask me.

    Thank you in advance !

Have you tried looking around on craigslist, ebay? It might be able to at least provide you a range to price it at.  Just look at what others are selling theirs for and if you are really looking to absolutely get rid of it price it slightly lower then the norm.  If you really dont care about getting rid of it to quickly and would rather get a little extra cash then price it at the higher end of the range they are going for.

  • How much power do iMacs use when working and asleep?

As usual, whilst claiming green credentials, the information Apple gives regarding power use is minimal and vague to the point of being meaningless.
The only figures they quote are:-
    Maximum continuous use 205w  (21.5")  and  310w  (27")
What exactly does maximum continuous use mean ?
    a. When the machine is switched on but not doing anything
    b. Working at general office tasks
    c. Working flat out transcoding video etc.
Which of these is it?  Or is it all 3?
Does it use more power when performing harder tasks?
If so, what power is used under scenarios a and b?
Finally, how much power is used in sleep mode?

Apple, nor any other device, apple or otherwise, isn't going to give you every power draw for every possible scenario.  So they post what the maximum power would be under maximum load (graphics intensive, computations utilizing all the cores, etc.).  That would be useful for estimating, say, what UPS to choose for the machine.
You want various power draws under various conditions then attach a wattmeter or a KiloWatt EZ.
    Why are these details significant?
As for sleep, I found the following (reference):

  • How much does an iMac weight

    weight and ouncs

    the older imac g3
Between roughly 37 and 38 pounds depending on model. If you need the exact weight for a specific model, this link will get you there:

  • How much POWER does iMac use in sleep?

I need to know this to get the right UPS. I cannot find it on the Apple Spt site. Thanks.

So... a 700VA backup should last 455Watts PER computer. With 2 Macs on the backup, I should get 227 Watts/4Watts/hr = 56 hours of backup. Thus, the unit should last about 2 days 8 hours, if the Macs are asleep. This ought to be plenty of time. The only time we have been down more than a few hours was when the last hurricane blew through.

  • My dad has an imac G5 from 2005, and I'm wondering if we can bring it to the Apple store and replace it with one of the newer models. How much would the G5 be worth and how much money would we have to put on top of it to buy the newer model?

How much is the G5 worth? The one from 2005.

The Apple Store will offer to recycle it for free, you are better off selling it on ebay or elsewhere, I have seen decent looking ones go from $80-$250 here in Australia.
You are looking at $1000 + to get a new one

  • How much hard drive RPM can this iMac handle?

    Hello!
In my office there's an *iMac Indigo G3 @ 400Mhz* (serial number RN03820ZJV8) and I need to replace its hard drive with a new one with more capacity.
Am being offered hard drives with different RPMs (5,400, 7,600, etc.) but I need to know how much can this IMac model handle, I don't want to over-heat it.
However, I couldn't find that specific data on apple's web site...
So as an alternative way of knowing this I thought that it would be a good idea to know the RPM of the current hard drive as it has worked well for several years:
    "*Fujitsu MPG3204AH E:*", capacity of 19.09GB (serial number: VL00T1A09W09).
But I haven't been able to find that info either!
Anyone out there who can answer:
1.- What's the maximum amount of RPM this specific iMac model can handle without overheating?
    And/or:
2.- What's the RPM for that specific hard drive?
    Best!
    Danny

Several years ago, there were concerns about the faster 7,200 RPM drives causing heat issues in the convection-cooled, slot-loading iMacs. In actuality, the hard drives manufactured today run more smoothly, cooler, and quieter than the first generation of 7,200 RPM drives. You won't have any problems installing a 7,200 RPM drive. The onboard IDE controller can only recognize a maximum formatted drive capacity of 128 GBs, so a 120 GB drive is ideal, but hard to find now. A 160 GB drive is usually the smallest drive stocked by many retailers today, but it would only be recognized as 128 GBs after formatting. As for the Fujitsu MPG3204AH-E drive, the "AH" in the model number indicates a 7,200 RPM drive, whereas earlier drives with "AT" in the model number were 5,400 RPM drives.

  • How much external memory is necessary for a IMac desktop that has 4GB? I have a 500gb external hard drive and the computer is saying it is full.

My Imac has been recalled by Apple to replace the Seagte 1TB hard drive.  I was told to back up my computer and I have a 500gb external hard drive.  The computers memory is 4gb.  why is my 500 gb external hard drive not enough space?

Your backup drive has half the capacity of the internal drive. Depending on how much of the iMac's drive is full, the external drive may or may not be sufficient.
It is like trying to pour the contents of a gallon milk carton into a half gallon pitcher. You may be able to pour the entire contents into the pitcher - but not if the milk carton is more than half full.
