How much MB range should i be using?

Hello All
I'm not having any problems with my PS. But, I was looking at my preformance in PS and was just wondering do I have it set right, should it be higher or lower? I was just wondering what you guys have yours set to? But to be honest I really don't understand the whole "ideal rang" thing anyway! Any help would be appreciated. Heres a snap shot (MAC CS3 10.5.8)

You can't have a second internal drive in a Mac Book Pro. Your best bet would be an external Firewire drive set as your scratch disk. OWC/MacSales has a nice cheap selection. But I would upgrade your RAM to 4GB and internal hard drive to 320GB or 500GB first. I think you'll find better overall performance from these additions. [duck]

  • On a new imac how much of the HDD is already used with the OS,iLife,apps..

Looking to buy my 1st ever iMac, the one Im going to get is the base one, with 250Gb HDD (I may upgrade to 320Gb for UK £29 though)
My question is how much of the HDD is already used by OS X and everything on it? I understand there is some free trial stuff onthat can be installed eg MS Office, iWork etc I would want these removed as wouldnt want them so how much is left before you start adding your own stuff
I also want to install Win XP on it so need to know what to do, 250Gb in todays computing is very stingy I think, so I need an idea
    cheers

Here's are some disk usage information from my 20" white C2D. The numbers
are running totals that include periodic software updates and some of my own
stuff -- but that would be less than 0.5 GB of the final total.
OS-X with "no optional packages" is a very usable system; it includes 'core'
applications such as Safari, iTunes, Quicktime. It does not include any of the
iLife apps or the iWork/MS_Office test-drive bloatwares.
The large increase in disk usage for a minimum Leopard system is partly due
to the inclusion of more apps in the 'core' OS package. Some things that were
optional in Tiger have become part of the "minimum" Leopard install.
The Xcode software development tools are a standard part of every OS-X
distribution, but since most customers have no use for them, they're not
included in the factory-installed disk image. If you don't plan to install
them, subtract 3.4 GB from the final tally.
    Factory pre-installed Tiger 10.4.8 & bundled software .................. 16.4 GB
Erase & Install Tiger 10.4.8 with NO optional packages .................. 2.9 GB
SoftwareUpdate to 10.4.10, with NO optional packages .................. 3.1 GB
Erase & Install Leopard 10.5.0 with NO optional packages ............... 6.6 GB
SoftwareUpdate (11/11, immediately after Leopard install) ............. 6.7 GB
Install Xcode SW development tools from Leopard DVD ................. 10.1 GB
    Install & SoftwareUpdate iLife'08 (except iWeb & GarageBand) ....... 12.3 GB
SoftwareUpdate to Leopard 10.5.1.................................................. 12.5 GB
IMO, 250 GB is FAR more than you'll ever need for installable software plus
a sizeable collection of music/photos. OTOH, no amount of disk space will
ever be enough for an avid music/photo/video junkie, and everyone should
have an external backup drive. So, stick with the standard internal drive and
    buy more external storage.
...a billion here, a billion there -- and pretty soon you're talkin' 'bout alot of money,

  • I need to find out how much wifi data my apps are using. I have a very limited amount of wifi data, and I am exceeding my monthly allowance. Apparently, even apps I think are not open are sending/receiving data through the wifi and using up my allowance.

I need to find out how much wifi data my apps are using. I am on a very limited amount of WiFi data each month, which I am regularly exceeding. I have been told to work out which of my apps is using the data. Also, I think I have closed an app by double clicking the home button, then swiping the app up - is this the way to close it, or will it still be sending/receiving data?

Go into your Settings : General : and turn off background refresh for your apps.  In Settings : Mail  turn Fetch new data to OFF and Load Remote Images to OFF.  This will mean that Mail will only check for messages when you actually use it, and all your advertising junk mail won't have all the images in it.
Turn off push notifications every chance you get.
Make sure you are actually quitting apps:  to quit apps press the Home button twice and you should see a bunch of smaller screen images for every open app.  To quit the app swipe from the screen image (not the icon) upward off the top of the iPad.  You can swipe left and right to see more open apps, but there must be no left-right movement on the screen when you swipe upward to close the app.
Turn off your internet connection when you do not need it.  The easiest way to do this is to swipe up from the bottom of you screen to get the control centre, and then touch the airplane to turn on airplane mode.  You can repeat this sequence to turn it back on again when you need it.  Most especially turn airplane mode on whenever you are sleeping your iPad for long periods.  This will save battery life too.  OR actually turn your iPad off - which means holding the power key down for several seconds until the red swipe bar appears, and then swipe to turn it off.  If you go this route, note that it will take longer to turn on then it takes to wake from sleep.

  • HT201493 How much data does find a friend use?

I can I gauge how much data I am using for its app

You would have to be running iOS 7 to do that.  If you were, you would go to Settings>Cellular, scroll to the bottom and tap "Reset Statistics", then use the app for a few days and to back to Settings>Cellular and it would show how much data that each app had used underneath the app name (in the "Use cellulare data for") section.

  • How much electricity does a Macbook Air use?

I'm moving out and living on my own for the first time. It'll also be the first time I have to pay utility bills. I was wondering how much electricty a Macbook Air (2011) uses during use, sleep, and charging. I'm a college student so I don't have a lot of disposable income so I want to save as much as possible. If I remember correctly, my desktop computer used to shut down every time I opened iTunes when it would work just find when I did other things. Does that mean iTunes uses a lot of energy to operate?
Anyways, I'm wondering if the usage of electricity is high for Macbook Air (2011) and whether I need to charge up my laptop at the nearest starbucks or library.
    Thanks in advance.

It uses very little power,  cents/month.  In any case the power adapter is 45watts so the max it could use would be equivelant to leaving a 45w light on all the time.  Reality is much much less.

  • How can I tell how much heap space is actually in use by a node?

How can I tell how much heap space is actually in use by a node? If I pass in ...
    set memory=1024m
    set java_opts=%java_opts% -Xms%memory%
set java_opts=%java_opts% -Xmx%memory%...then memory usage starts high and stays there. I feel like I don't really know how close I'm getting to exhausting my cluster's memory as I insert objects.
    Thanks,

+(With apologies if I am misreading the question and thus answering the wrong one.)+
[This agent|http://wiki.tangosol.com/display/COH35UG/Provide+a+Data+Grid#ProvideaDataGrid-NodeBasedExecution] reports how much free and total memory is being used on each node in the cluster.

  • How much of my data does Genius use updating my library ?

I have say 100gb of music in my Itunes library and I would like to know how much of my data usage Genius uses when it first updates?

    Welcome to AD!
I doubt any of us other users will be able to answer that. The algorithms for that genius feature are like a trade secret, aren't they?
All I can say for certain is that a library of around 100 tracks won't provide any genius mixes.

  • HELP!!! - can i somehow tell my program how much percent of the CPU to use?

can i somehow tell my program how much percent of the CPU to use?

Yes but that doesn't mean that it is only going to
use, for example, 10% of the CPU. It just means it
won't use as much, maybe, as some other process. The
answer is no.In my previous reply I made the assumption the OS
wanted one program not to "hog" the processor. The
normal way to deals with this is to use priorities.
But the answer is still yes. The answer, in terms of the question, is still no.
    The OS can, or nothing
would prevent an OS from, also putting restrictions on
a program and say it may never claim more than 1/10 of
the availible CPU time.I know of know OS that has any tool that allows one to set an application to use a percentage of the CPU.
I can't even imagine a business need for it except under some obtuse testing (and only testing) conditions.

  • How much sleep time should i set

    hi ,
i have a 110 threads running concurrently all making socket connections connecting to a server and performing some operation , i just want to know how much sleep time should i set so that all the threads keep working fine without hanging the program and also do their work

Is there nothing in checkPacketAndSendMessage? Are your 100 threads the producers of the messages or is it another thread?
If you want to send as many messages as possible, then why set in a sleep at all? If you are worried about responsiveness on the machine it is running on, you should just lower the priority of the java process at the operating system level. It all comes down to how many messages per second you are required to send.
So far this is not a concurrency problem, maybe you should post it in the Java Programming forum or networking forum.

  • How much HD space should I partician for Windows XP?

I am upgrading to a new (2010) iMac i5 with 1 TB HD and I was wondering how much disc space I should make for Windows XP? I only have a couple of special apps that I use in Windows and the attending files do not take up much space so other than the OS I may not need too much, but would appreciate a little starting point. Thanks.

I got this mixed up with my Shakespearean readings. I should be partition. I hit the key before reading.
