How much memory is allocated to windows in boot camp?

I have a 2 GHz Intel Core Duo iMac running Snow Leopard with 2 GB of RAM (maxed) circa 2006, the last big white iMac.  It runs very well.  Since I need to use a Windows software program for a work function I installed Fusion and Windows XP a few years ago.  This got the job done, however Fusion split the RAM equally between Windows and OS X and I find everything runs extremely slowly.  Especially with the latest updates to Fusion, I wonder if it just doesn't have enough memory to run properly (when I boot up Windows in Fusion, it takes about 15 min before it's functional).  I could change the allocation but then whichever OS got the smaller amount of RAM would freeze up even more.  Windows is kept fully up to date and I use an antivirus/firewall.  I am thinking of installing Windows XP on the Mac via Boot Camp but wanted to know: since it's a separate partition, would all of the 2 GB of RAM be available to Windows while that OS was running, or would it again be split?
This is my last shot before being forced to buy a Windows laptop...thanks for your time (:

Hi,
since you have to reboot your Mac in order to run a BootCamp Windows, all the available hardware resources are exclusive used by Windows.
Therefor the full 2GB RAM is useable in a BootCamp Windows.

Try running XP in a VM or aquire Windows 7 which is the only one supported now.
And you will need more like 60GB for Windows 7, so I would skip on 20GB just to be safe.
20G is a fine minimum for XP, I was not responding to any inquiry about Win 7.

  • How can I check how much memory is on my external hard drive after I plug it in. What are the steps I need to go through?

Im looking for a specific how to on checking how much memory I have left on and external HD. Any help would be wonderful.

If you're on your Mac OS, click on the little Apple sign in the top left corner of the screen and select About This Mac. Then, if you have your external HD plugged in, go to Storage, and there you should see all HDs (internal and external, USBs, etc) space and how much you have left on them. On a Windows OS, just go to My Computer to see.

  • I want to find out how much memory is left on my macbook pro. I need to know steps to find this out.

I had a problem today as my computer would not save a file for me.  A box stated macintosh HD was full and I would need to clear some files to make room.  I realized that although I had deleted emails from mac mail, gmail had not deleted these and all still remained on my macbook pro.  I went to gmail and finally deleted all the emails, and there were thousands.  I have been able to save a file as of now but want to know how much memory exists on my macbook pro.  It is confusing when I go to the Apple icon in the upper left corner of my laptop as that states my computer has 4gb of memory, two in each slot.  It does not tell me how much as been used.  Any help with this issue is greatly appreciated.  M.

The bottom of a Finder window will show you how much HD space you have left.

  • How much memory are actually being used? db_32k_cache_size

    Hi everyone,
Using Oracle 10g on RHEL 5.3.
I've been asked to check how much memory are actually being used by our db cache's. Currently we are using the parameters db_32k_cache_size (user-defined) and db_8k_cache_size (default) both allocated with 12gb. Now I want to know if there is any way to find out how much of the 12gb are actually being used by the cache.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks

    Thanks Guys,
Okay, so it is using the whole 12gb. I guess the next question would be, is 12gb really needed? You see, we are trying to increase memory where possible as this database has performance issues. Now we are thinking of taking some of the 12gb that is allocated to the 32k cache and assign it to the sga for instance.
    Does this make any sense?

  • How can i find out how much memory i have left on my imac

i have an iMac and i dont know how to find out how much memory i have left on my computer.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    smash adams,
If you're talking about hard disk space, open Finder, click once on your hard disk (left column) and look at the bottom of the Finder window.
If you're talking about RAM, Finder >Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor.
Open Activity monitor and click the System Memory tab.

  • How the memory is allocated

how the memory is allocated to the jvm when it is initially started and how we ca increase the memory of the jvm as per the requirements plz any body help ,e out iam very much new to the java programming and advanced thanks

just i want to know about the stack memory Actually, you don't because you should not need to worry about it unless you try to use too many threads. e.g. over 2000 threads.
and the heap how it will allocated Memory is pree allocated to about 2 MB and grows as required.
Run the jvm with the -verbosegc option to see how memory is allocated.
If you want more detail use a memory profiler such as jprofiler, optimiseit, or jprobe.

  • I have an iMac OS X Version 10.5.8 but I also have a MacBookPro 10.7.5 version, why software updates are not the same? For example, when I want to know how much memory can not store in the same way in either computer.

I have an iMac OS X Version 10.5.8 but I also have a MacBookPro 10.7.5 version, why software updates are not the same? For example, the way to see how much memory I have in my iMac is diferent than MacBookPro. And where I can see the memory of the disc I've got in my iMac? Than you very much.

If you want everything the same on both computers you need to be running the same OS X version. You can't because your iMac is a PPC machine, not Intel.
But to see information about your hard drive is the same for both. Simply select the drive icon on the Desktop. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. Disk information is in the upper panel.

    Welcome to Discussions, Sandolini
In addition to the info that Ralph has already provided, I offer one additional thought.
Ralph is my guru on iChat, so I am sure he can correct me if I am mistaken, but I believe that iChat 4 (the one in your posted Mac OS X 10.5.8 system info) adjusts camera frame rates and possibly video window size based on connection and processor speeds. I also seem to recall that the maximum video size for iChat 4 is 320x240.
iChat 4's video size/quality decisions are made based on the info from both ends of the video connection. If I am correct, different users could, therefore, experience different video data capture rates, possibly even when connecting to different chat contacts. These capture rates translate directly into different file sizes for recorded videos. In any case, most iChat 4 recordings (maximum size of 320x240) are likely to be considerably smaller (at least one-fourth to one-third smaller) than the 640x480 video iMovie captures from external iSight.
My suggestion is that you record a one minute test, if possible with the same video chat connection. If recording success will be a critical, one-opportunity-only event, you may wish to make several one minute tests to see if there is enough variability that you must account for it. Once you know the file size for a one minute recording, you can calculate ninety times that to find the maximum estimated space required for your ninety minute recording.
When determining your needed space, be sure you leave the extra space Ralph recommends.

  • How much memory (in buffers) is needed for a simple webservice's call?

    Dear expert,
I'm doing a research work about analysing the main memory usage in SAP ERP systems.
I would like to find out the space that a simple webservice's call occupies in the buffers, but there is always something occupying the buffers. I know that my call to get the values occupies memory, that's why I use a webservice to get them (to avoid the SAPGUI), I call first $SYNC and I use a BAPI similar to the transaction ST02.
So could someone help me to find out the way to mesure the memory used by a single webservice's call (it's a very simple, just to create a material)? Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for that. Will try.

Subject: How much memory (RAM) is needed for Elements 9 to automatically fill in the edges when using photome
The key to successful use of edge fill is to ensure that you've got all the memory allocated to PSE that you can and that the file that results after you merge the panoramic is not too big. When PSE 9 first came out about a year ago, I fooled around with file sizes and I think that on my particular computer the merged file had to be no larger than 20 megs for edge fill to work. I did a quick search through this forum's history but I couldn't find my posts. Maybe somebody else can find them.

  • How much memory does Tiger and Leopold use?

    Hi
How much memory do both Tiger and Leopold require themselves to run?

    hotcheese wrote:

Not much. I've run Tiger and Leopard with only 512 MB (1 GB machine with
512 MB for OS-X and 512 MB allocated to a virtual machine running Win XP).
They get really slow with a lot of page-outs if you open more than one app,
but they do run. The standard 1 GB (with no VMs) is comfortable for web
browsing and even iPhoto -- as long as you don't open too many apps at
    the same time.
...don't know 'bout Leopold, I think he's still dead,

  • How much memory do Objects use?

I'm not sure how to ask this, but how does java manage memory usage for multiple objects? Is the memory needed for a classes methods shared amongst the objects of that class, or does each object have memory for it's methods allocated for its use alone?
    For example:
    class Foo {
       public void doSomething();
}Let's say I have 30 instances of Foo. I can think of 2 options (but I maybe wrong)
Case A: Each instance of Foo has it's own memory allocated for it's own copy of doSomething(), resulting in the total memory
usage of 30 instances of Foo being about 30 times how much memory 1 Foo uses
Case B: Each instance of Foo looks at a common copy of doSomething(), resulting in less memory needed since there is only one copy of doSomething in memory.
If the case is A, Static methods would seem to be potentially more memory efficient. Assuming my thinking is correct(and feel free to say I'm dead wrong), would it not make sense to make as many functions as possible static?

    jverd wrote:
Executable code (initializers, methods, constructors): One copy of the bytecodes per ClassLoader that loads the class. Static/non is irrelevant.Seems to answer the question in full.
With reference (no pun intended) to the subject.
Instance variables (non-static member variables): One copy of the variable per instance of the class. Stored on the heap.
Class variables (static member variables): One copy of the variable per ClassLoader that loads the class. Stored on the heap.
Local variables, including parameters: One copy of the variable per invocation of the method.Just to complete the picture a bit (but NOT to contradict earlier comments).
    Primitive variables - as above.
Reference variables - as above. Note that method local reference variables are stored on the stack but
any object instances referenced by these are stored on the heap even so.

I have IMac OSX 10.9.4, 4GB,Processor 3.06 with Intell2Duo. I would like to check for Malware. I run a TechTool Pro 6 every month and that comes up great.
When check how much memory I am using, with only Safari open I am using 3.9 and more of her 4.0 memory. She is very. very slow in processing. I had 4000
trash to clean out and it took her over an hour to expel. Also for some reason Safari will not allow me to click on a link, in my G-mail, and let it go to the page.
It has a sign saying a pop-up blocker is on and will not let me do it. I must open the stamp to look at my e-mails and if I have redirected link now I can do it.
I have not changed my preferences so where is this pop-up blocker?
I have looked at preferences on Safari and Google, which I do not understand Google, and do not see where this blocker could be.
Malware is something I want to make sure is not on my computer. Tech Tool Pro 6 is all I know of and it does not detect Malware.
    Help.
