How much more memory should I get on my 2009 MBP

I have a MBP 2009 model 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo DDR3. Model# W8933NTF66D. that currently only has 2Gb of DDR memory and ever since I did the 10.10.1 update to Yosemite it has slowed down to a crawl so my question is, should I upgrade to 4Gb's or 8Gb's what do you guys suggest and what website's should I trust to buy it from.?
Also I want to put it a SSD (solid state drive) but can't decide wether to get a 120GB or 240GB. What do you guys think.?
All I basically do is school work, surf the internet, upload pics to iPhoto and edit. Thank you in advance for any help..

No.  Any enclosure will do the job that is designed for 2.5" SATA hard drives.  This is an inexpensive enclosure that OWC sells:

It can be used for SSDs or HDDs.  It is a generic enclosure.  Order this or an equivalent from some one else.

I appreciate the help OGEL..I'll even pay you to text me step by step when I get this new SSD so I can format it because I am thinking that if I just remove the old HD and install the new SSD then nothing will happen when I connect the external HD with the time machine back-up.
Before you can install an OSX any any data on a new drive (HDD or SSD) it must be formatted.  Nothing will happen until then.
When you get all of the components, start a new discussion.  There are many others as well as myself who can and will assist you to make certain that the installation is performed correctly.  I do not get involved in direct communications with others on these forums.
As a preliminary exercise, look at this installation video which will show you how to actually install the SSD in your MBP:

I haven't done an update since 24.0 because my computer is running out of memory. How much MORE memory will I need to get up to version 28.0?
    My computer is really old.
It is running out of memory.
I haven't done a firefox update since 24.0 because I think it will explode my computer.
    I see that v28.0 takes 200MB.
How much more is this than what is already loaded for my v24.0?
Will it just add the extra pieces, or will it require a free block of 200MB (which my computer does not have)?
I don't want to crash and lockup my computer because I try to install something that is too big for the remaining memory.
    Thanks.

You should updated to Firefox 28, Firefox updates don't take any new space they just replace the existing files.
There are some things you can do to clean up your hard drive to free up space however, http://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?p=21178060 and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956324, also uninstall programs you don't use anymore and delete files you don't need anymore.
You should also start saving up for a new machine, Windows XP is being dropped from support by Microsoft in a few days, which means it will no longer be safe to use on the internet.

  • How much more memory recuired to pass from FF3 to FF5?

There is insistance for reasons of security they say .. change to FF5 .. but I have an old 256M ram .. what can I do ? FF5 can't adjust to old machines memory?
    Thanks

Firefox 3.6.20 received the same security updates as Firefox 6.0 did. Firefox 5.0 isn't supported any longer.
    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/6.0/system-requirements/
Do you even have a Pentium 4 SSE2 processor? Most P4's came with more than 256MB of RAM.
I have a hunch that old WinXP PC isn't strong enough to run a Firefox 4+ version. Firefox 3.6.20 just might be the final version you can use.

  • WIndows 7 64bit, how much ram I need to get Photosgop CS5 flying?

    Hi guy,s
I have just transfered over from a 32bit Vista to WIndows 7 64-bit on a dual core 3Ghz, 4Gb RAM.
Just wondering how much extra RAM should I get to get the most/best out of photoshop I am really hoping my files files a bit quicker. allround.
Is it really just a matter of getting as much RAM in there as I can afford?
    Any help would e great

We'd have to know something about the kind of images you work on to answer that well.
8 GB actually does quite well for all but the largest (multi-gigabyte) images.

  • How much iPad memory do I need?

I need an iPad for work, to compose music using an app, and surf the web. I don't plan on saving much music or photos on it and I'm not a video game player. Based on that, do I need any more memory than 16G?

You might consider getting a refurbished iPad for less than the regular retail price. Then you could get a 32GB.

  • How can I tell what video card and how much video memory does my iMac have?

How or where can I find out: which video card does my iMac have and how much video memory does it have? I've tried looking in System profiler, but I did not see it there. Thank you.

Once you open System Profiler there should be a line called "memory" which is the RAM (vs. hard drive size which is not what is called memory), e.g., Memory: 1.5 GB
For video click on the line Graphics/Displays and look at the chipset line, e.g., Chipset Model: GeForce2 TwinView
Kappy's instructions are handy for checking the original configuration of your computer, but that may have been changed at some time, especially if you bought it secondhand.

how much does it cost to get latest version of safari

What MichelPM suggested is the SAFEST solution. Firefox is a better browser than Safari, and you will not be faced with any potentially crippling consequences of a full OS update.
You will presumably have to update your system at some point, and you should prepare for that by maintaining a full, up-to-date backup of your current main system on an external hard drive. You can use SuperDuper ($25) or Carbon Copy Cloner (the legacy version, 3.5.7) to clone your current system to an external drive. This drive will be bootable and will provide you will a safety net if you decide to install Yosemite at some point.

  • With apple insurance, how much does it cost to get the home button fixed?

My home button is not working reliably; I would like to know how much it would cost to get it fixed if I have the apple insurance.

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5s. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:

You would probably be better off finding a 3rd party repair company to do the job instead.  That way you can save a couple of extra dollars.  Just do a simple Google search for "iPod headphone repair" and you should get a plethora of results.

  • I want to upgrade to a smartphone on a small business plan. How much more will it be?

I want to know how much more it will be to upgrade from a basic phone with no data to a smartphone such as an iPhone with 1 or 2 GB of data a month. I'm currently on a plan with my business so I want to know how much a month this will change the overall bill. I want to know before approaching one of the managers about upgrading. I feel its a bad idea not to know exactly how much more it will be and if it will be affordable for me. Thanks!

        @kwkinneer
Upgrading from a basic phone to a smartphone will be a fun experience!  I am happy to go over plan options with you!  If you plan to stay with the current plan on your business account, you add a standalone data feature starting at $30 for 2GB.  Otherwise you can switch your line to one of our new Share Everything plans.  This plan gives you unlimited voice, text and you choose a shared data plan.  With this plan you also get the Mobile Hotspot feature at no additional charge.  See plan options here: http://bit.ly/T8w8iL.
