  • When using applications how much usage are you using or are you using none

ive downloaded some free applications on to my iphone lie (facebook, myspace, webmessenger) when actually usually the applications does that use the usage that i get monthly how does it work.

    Hello Kazza0181,
As Tamara mentioned, any application that involves access to the Internet to function (and all the applications you mentioned do require Internet access), you are using the phone carrier's data network.
Since I'm in the U.S. I'm not familiar with the data plans for the carrier in Australia. If your phone plan does not include unlimited data or it has a monthly limit before you are charge extra, your best option is to use WiFi instead of the cellular data network when you're using those applications. If you have WiFi enabled and you are connected to a trusted network (your own or a commercial WiFi hotspot), the iPhone will receive and send data via WiFi. Any data that travels over WiFi will not be reflected in your cellular data plan. Some commercial hotspots have their own charges to join their network, so check with the staff of the location providing the WiFi access for information on how to join their network and what charges may apply.
Tips for using a WiFi network can be found here:

Also, see page 100 of the User's Guide:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf
    Hope that helps,
    Charles H.

  • How much data did you use on day #1?

Just to get some perspective on how much people are using....
How much have you used so far?
What have you been doing to use data? Downloading apps, surfing the 'net, YouTube, hotspot, facetime, etc...
I've used approximately 1.2mb: 360kb sent, 917kb received. I pre-loaded my apps in iTunes, so this was mostly web surfing & using apps. This was since about noon yesterday.

I do use Pandora a ton on my iPad with wifi so I see what you mean when using it on 3G... I guess you have a point... Certain Apps will drain data... Just maybe the everyday internet browser consumer would be ok though
a lot of people would be ok. the problem that the carriers run in to are the average user that doesn't even know how to check the data usage. they have their email, facebook, weather, etc, etc constantly syncing and then download a movie or something....and before they know it they are at 3 gigs and storm into the store, irate, when they see their overage fees....lol

  • How much RAM can I use with SL?

Saw an oblique reference to the fact that SL can support (big number) of RAM.
Of what is that a function?
I have 3 GB in my MacBook.
Can I install more that SL will support?
    Thanks, HNick

It's more likely the Mac that will limit it.
Depending on the model you have, it may be more.
Try the app "MacTracker" from http://www.macupdate.com
It will tell you how much RAM, etc. your Mac can hold.

  • How much usage are you getting per charge?

    Hello all!
I have heard stories from others about crappy battery life, so I decided to keep track of the last 2 charging periods to see how much usage I was getting per charge.
So far, I have had over 9 hours usage and over 2 days standby time on each of the last 2 charges. Probably 25% talk and 75% internet, email, iPod.
    How is your battery doing?

I had to reset my phone, because it shut off as I ran the ipod and left wifi on in my leather case and the unit decided to "chill" literally. Everything was back on 10 minutes later. That being said, with no meter to look at,
Today I made at least 20-25 phone calls, the longest about 15 minutes. I left my bluetooth on all day, with wifi on probably 5-6 hours. Throw in a good 2 hours of IPOD usage and about 20-30 minutes at diferrent times showing of the iphone to a couple vendors and a customer. My phone was in use for 12 hours(what I would consider pretty heavy usage) and I recharged this evening in about 3 hours.
I am pretty pleased with the battery time. Tonight a recharged the battery and had the little space left. After reading another post I unplugged the cord from the AC adapter and plugged into my macbook and synced it and I now have the green glow everyone is so eager to see.

  • How much brillance do you use on your T500 pls ?

    Gents --
do you use 100% brilliance while AC-powered with your T500 or less than 100% ??
I am asking because I feel even at 100% brilliance the display is poor and dark and nothing to compare with my 6 yrs old banyas centrino notebook ..... and I caught myself using it instead of my new T500 2082-8WG which is hilarious ..... or  is simply something wrong with my eyes ....?
    Thanks

I also have a 2082-8WG. It is about a month old. When AC-powered I use 100% brightness, but 90% is also comforatble to use. This is indoors, sometimes with relatively bright ambient light. I haven't tried, but I guess outdoors it would not be bright enough. The LCD panel in my T500 seems to have been made by IBM (is it possible?). In spite of some criticisms that I have seen in the blogs I find the screen good for photo-editing in Lightroom, even though I have an Eizo 22" monitor on my desktop PC for comparison.

  • With my current setup how much ram do you think I would be using up?

Hey Apple Community!!!!! Recently bought my first Apple Product, a couple months back bought a 13in Macbook Pro and so far I love it but recently have been having some wierd issues. I am a Green Horn with a capital "G" when it comes to apple software so I am not sure where to even begin.
When I bought my Mbp I also purchased 16gb ddr3 of ram separately from a reputable dealer that I installed when I got the mbp. I use this strictly for school and thats it and I am very good with computers, well PC anyways (I have other pc's for whatever else I want to do). I installed VMWare Fusion along with Windows 7 ultimate as I am studying computer programming and the programs I need to run are windows based. However it seems to me like I have alot of stuff in the Ram pretty much all the time. Like usually less than 1gb is free, maybe 2 or 3 gbs free and not much is wired. Alot (like usually around 10 gb or more) is Active. Sometimes when I remove the usb receiver for my wireless mouse the whole computer will shut down and restart but I cant make heads or tails of the report it gives me. It also seems to be getting slower at times. The little rainbow circle that takes over the mouse pointer when something is loading is becoming a closer friend than I would like lol. Any ideas on some programs or registry repairs(if the mac even has registry I thought I read somewhere it does not, at least not in the same sense as pc based). Really trying to keep a little amount of stuff off this thing as possible I would like this to last through school.

I also have 16GB of RAM and when I'm running a lot of apps and not restarting for days on end, my RAM usage in Activity Monitor can look like this:
Usually a restart will free up a lot of RAM - even though I do keep dozens of apps open at once
So that's nothing to worry about.
I have no idea why you're having 'beachballing' - take a look at ds store's user tip - Step by Step to fix your Mac. Maybe you can come up with some ideas there.

  • How much ram can you put in a Macbook Pro 7,1?

I have what I thought was 2011 macbook pro, but when I just looked it up the 7,1 appears to be a 2010. Anyway, I want to max out the ram. OWC says you can put in 16GB of the DDR3 1066MHz SO-DIMM; here is the link: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/8566DDR3S16P/ Has anyone done this and does it work?

If OWC says it will work, it will work.  The 2010 13" MBP can accept 16 GB RAM due to a relatively new firmware update.  Other 2010 MBPs cannot (still).
    Ciao.
Carefull on the specifications!  They should be:  204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM.

  • Where can I see how much RAM I have used and how much I have left?

I'm not sure where to see my RAM availability.

Finder, Applications, Utilities, Activity Monitor and you can look at memory, CPU, storage, network

  • How can I tell how much ram I am using?

Trying to figure out why my computer keeps freezing up.  Maybe I need more memory?  Loaded Lion, and it seems to operate quickly, but still freezes up.  Any suggestions?

    Utilities/Activity Monitor
has settings that can show you a pane of memory usage at this moment.
It also has some "cute" features that I use often. You can specify that its Dock Icon should display the Pie chart of memory usage whenever Activity Monitor is open. Then you can close Activity Monitor's window and go  about your business. The pie chart stays there in the dock, and is updated "live", and one click opens the full activity monitor window without Launching.

  • How much data do you generally use a month?

Hi everybody. So i am another guy who's getting the iphone 5 at a discount price.. .
I know they are gonna take my unlimmited data away, and i'll be force to choose the 2GB/$30 a moth, so i was curious too know how much data do i use per month, if 2GB was enough for me. It seems like it, i use 500 MB average a month. But having LTE means more speed, more data, so hopefully 2GB will cover my needs. How about you guys? how much data do you use a month?

    21stNow wrote:
My usage patterns vary, but 1-5GB a month is normal for me.
Note that people who participate on forums may not be a good representation of the general population.  We tend to use our mobile technology so much that we are on our carriers' forums.
Also more likely to use our mobile data plan to access those forums. I know I do.
As for usage. 2-6 GB per month depending how much I use it.

  • How much RAM should be in use while not running anything?

Just for the heck of it, I checked the Activity Monitor with nothing else open to see how much RAM was being used. Much to my surprise, nearly 900MB of my 2GB was being used with literally every application closed except for Activity Monitor. This can't be normal...

My Macbook Pro is also using about 1.3GB RAM with virtually everything shut down (mail, safari, ical, itunes, etc). Yet, my husbands uses only about 400-500MB with the nearly identical applications left running.
    I have 4GB, he has 2GB.
We compared the running applications one-by-one, and mine uses nearly double his for the exact same application.
Does a laptop use more memory if it has more memory to use?
This really bothers me. There does not seem to be any reason for mine to be consuming more RAM when running the same small applications as his does yet I can't figure out why?
    Ahhhhh!

  • How Much RAM????

I am a Pentium 4 laptop owner, and have been interested in anything APPLE for 10 months now. I am into heavy video editing and photography, as well as web design. Since I never owned a mac, I don't own any apps that are POWER PC native, and I don't think I'll buy Adobe products untill they are universal in CS3. Nontheless, I want a FAST system, and be able to multitask. How much RAM do you suggest I put into this beast....and in what pairs (i.e. 2 x 2GB etc.) Thanks a lot,
    Michael

If I were to go back in my Time Machine to June 2003, just as the G5 was announced, there was a dearth of DDR400/PC3200 and 1GB chips that worked were hard to come by , and sometimes lead to incompatibilities and the need for "matched pairs" in particular.
Maybe in a year some "Mac Pro II" (well, that brings back memories of IIx and IIfx memory as well and doubt we'll see that name used anytime again), as long as the Mac Pro is tied to Xeon then ECC is probably a given but...
does anyone know the size of the market using FB-DIMMs like these? sure there are some server farms with TBs of memory, but 4 million Mac Pro users might get some real marketing attention too.
The "sweat spot" for many G5 owners even with lite use as a general desktop computer was 1.5GB RAM due to the way G5 code is written and laid out in RAM. I wonder, outside of Rosetta, if the Pro has as much of an appetite.
3GB might - for now - be that "sweat spot". With more for any apps that are memory-hungry. Having to spend $800 on memory might keep more than a few people on the side-lines, so it really is in Apple's interest that RAM prices decline to help the Christmas shoppers.

  • How much RAM do I need to run FCP effectively?

As you can see below, I have an iMac 2.1 Ghz 20 in. (isight) w/ 512 MB of RAM, and I also have FCP, but have been experiencing some playaback framerate issues. So I have decided to upgrade my RAM to either 1 GB, 1.5 GB, or 2.5 GB... My question is how much RAM do you have and how well does it run. I know 2.5 GB's would be the ideal amount, but if I only need 1.5 GB then I would prefer to go with that and use the extra cash for new speakers.
Thanks, and I posted this over at the Final Cut Express board on accident so if any of you feel you have read this before... thats why.

Get an external hard drive - Firewire 400 min/ firewire 800 if your machine will support it.
Having media and the os on the same disk is a recipe for disaster.

  • How do you see how much ram you are using!

how do you see how much ram you are using

I think Nick is saying that there are only a couple of applications in the Utilities folder, not the number of running processes in the Activity Monitor itself. If that is the case, then an Archive & Install of Mac OS X might be the best option. It would be possible to use an application like Pacifist to extract the individual applications, but that might be quite a bit more complicated in the end. I have 30 items in my Utilities folder.
