Hi Folks,
How much ram will fit in a T41. I have two 512M sticks but would like to replace with two 2G. Will that work?

"Properly set" is mostly a software issue in my book: make sure that you remove all the unwanted bloat from the OS that you're running...
Now, only you know what applications you need or not, but I'll tell you how I have my daughter's T41 (2373-4GU) set up, just as an idea:
a) XP Pro runs in the "classic" mode, with all the "eye candy" disabled .
b) AVG Free AntiVirus has replaced Norton
c) Automatic updates have been disabled. I choose which ones to install, and when.
d) I have installed "SpeedSwitch XP" application to optimize CPU speeds depending on the load.
Once again, my word is not from any type of holy book...
On the hardware side, this machine is stock apart from being upgraded to 1Gb RAM and 60Gb/7200rpm HDD. It will never run Vista properly, and it won't ever handle serious games, but will do most anything else that an average user requires IMO.

Well, any mobile computing device you buy is technically obsolete within a year or less of being released - for any company's products that's true. The amount of RAM is going to be based on a number of factors - the capability of the mobile cpu being used, the footprint of iOS and the built in functions, the typical RAM usage of known iOS 3rd party apps, the size of battery(s) available to fit in the space available, the added cost of additional RAM and any number of additional parameters. In a device like a tablet or smart phone, every single component that goes into them involves some trade off or compromise.

How much RAM will I need?

Considering buying a Macbook Pro, but I wanted to ask around and find out approximatly how much RAM I would need so that I dont get a model thats too powerful or too weak for my usage. I was considering 4 Gbs but im not sure if thats enough.
What im mainly planning to do on the Macbook is:
internet browsing (chrome, safari etc)
Mail app
Word processing software like Microsoft word
Eclipse (java programming)
skype
utorrent
Say I have all these programs running at the same time, how much RAM will I need to have?

Oh also, I just remembered wanting to ask this, have you ever tried downloading an OS update for a macbook and apple wont let you because you have outdated technology? Like trying to download ios 7 on an iphone 3G for example.
I've had that exact problem - someone gave me what was, supposedly, an iPhone 4s but turned out to be a 3Gs. Couldn't update to iOS 7.x so it just sits on my desk right now.
And when I had my MacBook Pro (1,1 2006 model) I couldn't upgrade to Lion - was 'stuck with' Snow Leopard.
O'd technology that no longer plays nice with new OS's? Time to get a new machine.

just wondering... i have a Macbook (5,2) with 2GB of 667Mhz RAM currently installed (factory). I was wondering how much the maximum amount of RAM i can install is, and also how much my computer will recognise as i am going to upgrade to 4GB. I was also wondering whether i can only install 667Mhz RAM on it, when the bus speed is 1.07Ghz ?

officially according to Apple the max RAM is 4GB.
However according to this http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook/stats/macbook-core-2-duo-2.0-white -13-early-2009-nvidia-specs.html and OWC up to 6GB RAM is possible.
Might be a limitaion of the used logic board / chipset that limits the RAM speed to 667MHz.

Thank you for your insight. I had planned on just getting 4GB but your comment regarding using the system longer and being able to keep up with software advances is extremely relevant. While this "old" MB is nearing three years of age, I do not plan on retiring it any time soon. 8GB of RAM will allow me to use this machine until the hardware is no longer supported by the software, I decide to get a new MB Air at some point down the road or I experience a catastrophic failure. How much RAM will my compaq presario c770 support? Or what will the motherboard hp 30d9 support?

My operating system is 32 bit windows vista home premium. I am aware that a 32 bit system will only support up to 4gb of RAM. I really just need to know what the motherboard "Hewlett-Packard 30D9" will support at best. I already have 2gb of RAM and I just want to know if it would be useful to attempt to add more. I am also aware what products are available so don't give me links to stores. The RAM type currently installed is DDR2, if that's significant in determining the maximum effective RAM. The old girl has some age on her so my warranty is out, which apparently means no email support from hp, the dicks. I recently did a factory restore and upgraded my battery, I'm just sort of seeing how well I can make my 2008 laptop run so any suggestions regarding my particular computer are welcome. If you put a 2GB and a 4GB stick in together, your MBP will use all 6GB the same way it would use 4GB, except that there will be a small performance penalty because the modules are not matched. That will be more than offset by theperformance benefits of having more RAM, if you actually need it. If you don't need it, there won't be any benefit from the upgrade.
I read this too. I read that when you do a 4 gig and 2 gig card, your processor won't be able to work off of the ram simultaneously. The processor will have to choose one or the other.
Where'd you get this? I think it's nonsense.
Oh, and there are no 3GB RAM modules.

One reason I favor OWC is that if you call them up and tell them that their RAM is malfunctioning, replacements are sent out that day, not when they get the bad RAM from you.There are a couple of forum colleagues who use Corsair RAM with no problems. Macs seem to be very selective about RAM and some brands simply do not work properly in Macs. OWC and Crucial have good track records, hence the recommendations.
I often grin when someone complains about an inexpensive or bargain part does not perform well in a Mac. When one pays a premium price for a computer, I would think that quality should come before price for any add-ons or modifications. It is like purchasing a Ferrari and then using regular gas.
If your replacement Corsair RAM is working, you should be just fine. One bad experience should not condemn a manufacturer or vendor.

How much ram and processing power in my imac will meet my graphic design needs?

Hi,
I'm in the market for a new imac. I'm trying to figure out how much ram I'll need and which processor will be sufficient for my graphic design needs.
I'm gonna need it to be robust enough to have InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator open at once along with spotify, safari with many tabs open, and a couple other apps including evernote and game from time to time. Also, I'm gonna be managing a good deal of fonts in font explorer. How much ram and processing power will I need in my imac to keep everything snappy with all these apps going at the same time?
Any advice on this would be much appreciated. Feel free to include any other relevant information you think I should know.

Ok, getting serious, that iMac should be a viable workhorse for what you want for a good five years, and taht depends on how much ram you put in it, add really fast external storage, and so on.
Didn't throw this in earlier so as to not influence the discussion: my daughter is the senior art director, VP, at a graphics design firm in NYC. Has been in the business for a number of years. When she changed out her Mac at work, bought, or company bought, the 27" iMac model just before the latest, with maxed out CPU/GPU, and storage. They maxed the memory to 32 GB for her, then added a 30" Apple cinema display so she has almost 5' of display in front of her. There is nothing she cannot have open all spread across that display area. She works almost exclusively in print media, occassionally condescends to do web stuff. And has a massive array of RAID drives hanging on it. But that is a setup an individual would be hard pressed to go with.
At home she uses a MacBook Pro with top cpu and display but that is all.
The point, just how massive do you want to go depends on how fast you have to work; in the office where time is money you need tons of horsepower. At home, you scale it to your abilitty to juggle other tasks at the same time.
I think your choices have been great, the discussion has focused on what is important and especially what can and cannot be changed in the future.

I want to upgrade my RAM, as the computer is showing a bit of age at 3 years old now. I looked at this support page:

And judged the installation to be easy enough for me to do, but I'm confused as to how much RAM I can buy. The conflict I see is that "Additional notes" says I can use up to 8GB of RAM, but the table says only 4GB. What's throwing me off is basic math -- is that 4GB only referring to my slots (thus 4+4=8) or is it saying that anything over 4GB will not be recognized by my computer?
I spoke with someone at Apple, but he seemed a bit confused by my question, and eventually gave me a "yes" that was timid enough that I felt the need to post here. So, I'd appreciate the support! Thanks a lot, everyone. I'm just looking to not spend more than I need (in terms of buying excess RAM), and make sure I don't ruin my Mac in the process.

The MacBook Pro 4,1 can acces a maximum RAM of 6GB
However RAM comes in 4GB modules and you have two slots, so you install 8GB (two 4GB modules) and can only access 6GB of it according to MacTracker.
Use the free Crucial.com site to make sure your getting the extact specified RAM specs, you can buy it anywhere if you like.

How can I tell how much ram memory my mac book pro originally came with? I now only have 2 gbs left and am running out of space with all my photos, aps, videos and music. I don't want to keep moving things on and off the computer with an external hard drive. Is there a way to get more ram? My ipad has 64gbs and holds everything - but apparently my computer doesn't.

Time Machine backup disks should be external ... separate from the computer.
Several places sell external disks that are already formatted for Mac. Others tell you that external disks not formatted for Mac can be reforatted, but save yourself the grief for now and buy Mac-ready.
Buy a *new* disk, in my opinion. Do not reuse an old disk.
Some can suggest certain brand names as "better", but even the best disk-brand will have bad apples in the mix.
If any others have a convenient link for Time Machine Tutorial, please provide. I have learned enough alreay, generally through trial and error on my own.
But focus on getting that first backup done within the next 2 days.
As to "probably need a new HD", perhaps you can move enough off to an external disk. Cross that bridge after you get the backup.
If you get the sense that critical things are done first and that you should save yourself complex things like "how to replace a harddisk" for later, you are reading my posts correctly.
