  • Requirements for Special Offer (CS3 Upgrade or Full Version?)

    Hello,
I'm thinking about upgrading from CS6 to Creative Cloud and have a question regarding the requirements for the special offer. On the website it says "Requires prior purchase of CS3 or later" and I'm wondering if I need a full version of CS or an upgrade? I have a Photoshop 6 (Full Version) and a "Design Standard CS3 Upgrade" - is this enought to qualify for the special offer?
That would also mean, I could sell my independet upgrade-packages of CS5 and CS6, since I would not have a need for them if I keep the CC-subscription.
    Thanks

    Piotr,
Based on Dec9's comment, it sounds like an upgrade.
    However, you state:
had the licence transferred to me.
Did the seller furnish you with the "official" Adobe license transfers. There is paperwork involved, and did you get that? What does it say? Adobe makes it easy for a seller to transfer a license legally to another, and there is necessary paperwork involved. You should be, first able to see how Adobe noted the software, and if there is confusion, then will have something to use, when you contact Adobe C/S on licensing/Activation issues. Or, you'll have paperwork to use against the seller when you contact eBay.
    Good luck,

  • How Much RAM?m going to upgrade

Hi I'm going to upgrade my RAM and I was wondering how much should I put in and Take out? The max memory on my computer is 3GB and the sims 3 needs 2GB?
    Connor
P.S. Does Crucial ship to Australia

Then I would get one 2GB module. Combined with one of your 512mb modules, you will have 2.5GB of RAM. The additional RAM at 2.5GB will more than make up for not having a matched pair of 1GB modules.
Mac-oriented vendor OWC has done some testing that shows 2.5GB (2GB+512mb) generally performs better that 2GB (2x1GB)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/MemoryBenchmark/AppleiMac/
Plus you have 0.5GB more RAM, and it may cost you less to get one 2GB module versus two 1GB modules.
To upgrade RAM, you open a door at the bottom edge of the iMac with a screw driver. Then you undo some latches to remove and replace the module(s). The instructions are in your manual, and you should follow them closely (although it's a simple procedure). The manual is available here as a PDF.
    http://support.apple.com/manuals/#imac
You should send Crucial an email yourself to ask about their shipping policies.

  • How much memory for the G5 2.7?

    I am buying a refurbished G5 2.7 from Apple.
The primary application will be Pro Tools HD2 for audio mixing.
    QUESTIONS:
    (1) How much memory will I likely need? 2GB? 4GB?
    (2) I will buy the memory from Crucial. Should I remove the original memory and use only the Crucial 1GB pairs, so they are matched?
    Powermac G5 2.7   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

No need to remove the original RAM.
How much to install depends on how you'll be using ProTools. If it's only audio (no sample players), 2GB would probably work perfectly. If you're using samplers heavily, with lots of large samples, you might want to go to 5-6GB.
I'd start with 4GB, RAM for these is cheap (compared to RAM for the Mac Pro.)

  • How much RAM for ONE App & does OS X limit allocation?

    Hello all,
This question concerns how much RAM I realistically need to run ONE application to it's fullest. I mainly use ProToolsLE 7.3, but sometimes use LogicPro 8 and Final Cut Express 4, again, only one running at a time. I've read on the ProTools forum that Windows (yuck) limits the amount of RAM that can be allocated for 1 application. Does Mac OS 10.4 or 10.5 do this?
Right now I have the stock 1GB (2 x 512MB). I plan on pulling it and installing a matched quad of either 1GB sticks (4GB total) -OR- 2GB sticks (8GB total). I understand that matched quads in slots 1/2 of both risers is optimum for the early Mac Pros.
The ProTools forum isn't helping much. A ProTools support person said that starting with 4GB will be good to start and that they test their systems with 4GB installed. What did they mean by "good to start"? Will it increase jumping to 8GB or is 4GB all ProTools can really use?
Another guy on there said "keep in mind that to use 4GB of ram - you'd need a 64bit Operating system (not supported by pro-tools) or on a MAC PAE support enabled, which depending on your hardware may not be a great move." I dont know what that means! Mac OS 10.5 IS a 64bit OS, right? And ProTools 7.4 NEEDS OS 10.5 to run....even if it is only a 32bit app. (though right now I am running PT 7.3 on OS 10.4....not sure if 10.4 is 64bit)
A quad set of 1GB is under $170 and a quad set of 2GB is under $270. Funds are tight right now, but I think I can swing the extra $100 to double the RAM -IF- it will make a difference.
Any thoughts as to wether the extra $100 will be worth it, or am I wasting my money? Thanks!

    Hatter,
Thank you so much for your advice! If I may bother you to receive one final suggestion....
Based on the best prices I have found from all of the well known Mac Pro memory dealers, I have narrowed it down to 3 configurations that are balanced. Even though I'm still not 100% confident that 8GB of RAM will give me any noticable imporvement over 6GB, the price is only $42 more to get 8GB. Am I correct in saying that the early Mac Pro would do better to have one matched quad set of RAM over the new Mac Pro's increased performance of having all eight slots filled? Here are the 3 configurations and prices.
    4 x 1GB + 4 x 512MB = 6GB Quad+Quad $220 (using my stock 2x512MB sticks)
    4 x 2GB = 8GB Quad $262 (pulling my stock 2x512MB sticks)
    8 x 1GB = 8GB Octal $278 (pulling my stock 2x512MB sticks)
Which do you think would be the best route?
I already purchased a WD Caviar for my dedicated audio drive. I installed a Seagate 7200.9 in my PowerMac G4 for it's audio drive, but after reading various reveiws, concluded the WD Caviar is a better performer. I LOVE my WD My Book Studio external. I hadn't considered replacing the boot drive, but after reading articles suggesting that it improves overall system performance, and now that you've recommended it as well, I will probably buy a second Caviar for the boot/system drive.
This computer is a DEDICATED audio computer, for ProTools & Logic only....other than a bit of fiddling in Final Cut Express. It's not even connected to the internet and all unnecessary apps are not installed or uninstalled. I also never migrate apps, but always do a fresh install of everything from the ground up.
Thanks again for your advice! It's been a big help!

  • How much swelling for battery replacement?

How much swelling is necessary to be eligible for a battery replacemet?
My battery seems to be swelling a bit, really only a crack for now. The seam beside the test button has opened up, and with the battery installed, you can see it protrude a tiny bit, probably not even 1/16th of an inch.
The battery health seems fine considering the age, and the only odd behaviour I've had is it shutting down around 30%, but that hasn't happened since the battery update/calibration.
Mostly, if this is a symptom of the typical swelling, and indicates a potential problem, I would like to have it taken care of before it becomes a problem, particularly if it is dangerous.

Welcome to the forums. If it is swelling at all, get it replaced. Did you run the Battery Update 1.2?
The symptom you describe is typical of a Li-polymer battery that is getting old. If your battery is not old, then it is likely failing prematurely - some MBPs have this problem independent of swelling. Battery Update 1.2 should reveal is this is he case with your battery.
The swelling is more serious - that indicates a possible failure that could damage your MBP of injure you.

  • How much leeway for blowing up when downconverting HDV to SD?

Hi. I'm trying to understand how much I can blow up a HD/HDV image when the final format for a project is an SD DVD. How much and why...
I'm working on a DVD of a play. The producer thinks our wide shot is too wide. She wants me to blow it up whenever I use it. I ran some tests blowing up our footage (1440 X 1080) by different amounts and downconverting to SD. I found that I can blow up to 110 pct with no noticeable loss in quality, to 120 pct with some loss in quality (more noise, images are softer), but not so much that I can't use it, and to 150 with so much degradation I can't use the shot.
These results are in-line with my past experience.
My question: why? If I shot on 1440 X 1080 and am using those values for my timeline, and if I'm downconverting to 720 X 486, shouldn't I be able to blow my original footage up to 200 pct with no loss in resolution? Am I missing something? Or is there a flaw in my workflow? Here's how I did the tests:
Export four separate videos from a 1440 X 1080 timeline. Each video was of the same clip. Video one was not blown up at all. Video two was blown up to 110 pct, video three to 120 and video four to 150.
I converted all videos in compressor using DVD best settings for 90-minutes (SD, NTSC, 16:9), burned a DVD using DVD SP and watched it on a flat screen TV.

This is how I'd deal with this ...
Create a new sequence that is DV/DVCPro NTSC 16:9 anamorphic
Put the HDV material in that timeline.
FCP will scale down the material to fill the screen.
In a shot where I want to have a larger image, I'd put it the viewer, go to the Motion Tab and adjust. I can to bring the material back to 100% (which will double the apparent size) before any degradation of image.
When finished, export as "current settings" and use that file in Compressor to generate the files to build the DVD.
    good luck,
    x

  • Is Solution Manager required for ECC 6.0 upgrade?

We will upgrade our system from 4.7 to ECC 6.0.  Is Solution Manager a required tool in ECC 6.0?  My understanding is Solution Manager has to be run on a different server, ie.  we will have to buy a new server.   We have a small SAP implementation with only FI & CO modules, so we are trying to cut our costs if we could.  Can anybody share their experience?  Thanks for any input.

In an Upgrade , Solution Manager is required for Upgrade Keys and downloading the support packs . Now a days to download the support packs you have to approve it in Solution Manager otherwise it won't show up in your download basket.
May be SAP can provide you the keys & approve the SPs ( they used to do that before ) , in that case it isn't required.
You can also manage your upgrade project in Solman . Sooner or later you need to install solution manager. it's a nice system. Many good features like central monitoring, early watch alert etc etc ...
    Thanks

  • How to check for impacts due to upgrade

We are plannining to upgrade from 4.7 to ECC6..How to check for impacts on FTP'S,shell scripts and RFC's etc due to the assesment..Please suggest

    Hi,
FTP's and Shell scripts are OS dependant not SAP or Database dependant so there will be no change at all unless you upgrade OS too. RFC's are not afected as per guides, notes and my experience.
I´m doing an upgrade from 4.6C to 6.0 with connections with at least 10 systems and none of them had an issue during tests
    Good luck

  • How much space for DVD-5?

    Hey,
Does anyone know after formatting exactly how much space I have to work with on a DVD-5? I am trying to go his route because the cost per unit is cheaper.
    Chris

Take a look at the what you should be encoding at using this calculator
    http://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm
For 1:42 the rate (using 192 AC3 audio) should be about 5.7. Set up Compressor with those settings and send the footage from Final Cut to Compressor and bring the resulting m2v and AC3 files into DVD SP. If you are bringing a .mov in the audio is non-compressed and takes up more room and if the default encoding settings for the project are too high, 1:42 can go over a DVD 5 fairly easily. Do not recall what the default is right now, but it is going to be close.
You can try changing preferences for the project, but I do not find it as reliable.
