How much space will putting windows on my mac take with bootcamp?

I was wondering because I have very limited space on my Macbook Pro but I wanted to be able to play windows games off of steam. (will that even work?) I was also wondering if it would effect the performance of my mac? Because I do alot of video editing and can't have the performce compromised.
Thanks!

You will need a minimum of 50-60 Gb for Windows 7 and then you will be limited on the number of games installed at one time. Steam works perfectly on the two MacBook pros I have (2008, 2010) with Vista and Win 7.  It is good advice to max out your RAM for best performance.
You can't install Windows on an external HDD and start up. The closest you can get are the Macs that have more than one internal drive installed that can be removed.

Installation of Windows 7 is required at least around 20GB of disk space 64bit version, 32bit version is around 16GB, 100GB is a sensible amount of disk space for a Windows installation, I suppose.

The fix was to completely remove all Apple Software following guides in previous posts.
Then download and re-install latest iTunes 64-bit, making sure to Run As Administrator.
This fixed it. Now the next thing seems to be that as I move from one device to another to close and restart iTunes between each one. Treat it gently. It seems to break easily and a lot.

  • How much space does MacBook Air OS and software take up?

    Greetings,
I am looking to replace my aging 2008 MacBook with a new MacBook Air.  I want to get the 11 inch model most likely with the 128GB of storage.   I will use it mostly for email, web surfing and other light duty work.
While I don't intend to load it up with various software, I will probably put a half dozen peices of software on it, over and above the Apple software it comes with. But, no biggies like PhotoShop.    My question is this:
About how much space does the Apple OS and the assorted Apple software that comes standard take up?
I cannot spend a lot and would like to avoid buying the bigger drive if possible.
    Thanks.

new from box it will have 121 GB available.

Thats a bad working premise, no computer is a data storage device.  You dont need a huge SSD, just an external HD for data backups and for putting tons of big media files on.
128GB is plenty for almost everyone,  IF they know very very simple rules of drive management.

I'm assuming you can..now I don't know the prices for your area, you'll have to check around, I just did a quick web search and I'm pulling all sorts of prices up, I'd look into a repair facility near you and see what they can do for you :-) shouldn't be too expensive though! Good luck!

  • HT1577 How much space does 26 24 minute tv shows take up

I am downloading my favorite tv series onto my iPod and I would like to know how much space 26 24 minute episodes take up.

I use checked tracks for updating my iPod too. I find that this works better than the Smart Playlist method, for me.
In any case, if you don't have a video iPod, you may want to change your checked tracks playlist to have these rules as instead:
    Kind does not contain "video"
    Kind does not contain "movie"
This prevents videos you may download or add to iTunes from showing up in that list, since they won't be sent to non-video iPod's anyway.
One more thing: Every once in a while, you might want to make a "backup" of what your checked songs are. This way, if you are checking/unchecking songs and accidentally screw them up, you can restore your checkmarks easily. I do this before I make changed to what tracks I have checked. To do this, select that Checked tracks playlist, then in there hit CTRL-A to select all the songs. Now pick File->New Playlist from Selection. This creates a normal playlist with all those tracks. Name it something like "checked backup". Now, if you screw up your checkmarks, you can look at the library, uncheck everything (hold CTRL while unchecking something to uncheck all), then look at the backup playlist and check everything in that playlist (same deal, hold CTRL). This has the effect of restoring your checkmarks to their "backed up" state. Comes in handy.

  • How much space will be allocated for Occurs 10

    Hello,
    Kindly clarify my below queries?
    1) if occurs 0 takes minimum 8 kb space
then how much will occurs 10 will take .
i.e when to use occurs 0 ,occurs 10 ,occurs 100?
    2) what is the maximum number of lines an internal table can contain ?
    Regards,
    Rachel

    Hi,
<li>OCCURS <n>. The below information answers both questions.
This size does not belong to the data type of the internal table, and does not affect the type check. You can use the above addition to reserve memory space for <n> table lines when you declare the table object.
When this initial area is full, the system makes twice as much extra space available up to a limit of 8KB. Further memory areas of 12KB each are then allocated.
You can usually leave it to the system to work out the initial memory requirement. The first time you fill the table, little memory is used. The space occupied, depending on the line width, is 16 <= <n> <= 100.
It only makes sense to specify a concrete value of <n> if you can specify a precise number of table entries when you create the table and need to allocate exactly that amount of memory (exception: Appending table lines to ranked lists). This can be particularly important for deep-structured internal tables where the inner table only has a few entries (less than 5, for example).
To avoid excessive requests for memory, large values of <n> are treated as follows: The largest possible value of <n> is 8KB divided by the length of the line. If you specify a larger value of <n>, the system calculates a new value so that n times the line width is around 12KB
    Thanks

  • How much space does all of my "checked" songs take up?

I now have more music than my iPod can hold. I had to uncheck the songs that I don't want transferred to the iPod. At the bottom of the screen in iTunes, it shows how many songs I have and how much disk space they take up, however, those values don't change when I uncheck songs. Is there a way to view those values only for my checked selections? This would be very helpful so I can get as much on my iPod as possible. Perhaps there is a way to sort by checked songs only?
To the iTunes programmers that browse these forums: THIS IS A MUST for the next version of iTunes. If it is already possible, make it easier for people to find!

  • How Much space will I need for developing apps

I will be purchasing a MacBook Air most likely the $1109 with 64GB and 4GB RAM,  I was wondering is 64GB okay for developing apps and personal use.  I use about 18GB on my PC and I'm thinking I'll only need about 20GB MAX more, so 38GB used in total.  Is the remaining amount good for developing apps, excluding XCODE itself, just the coding/ files needed?
    THANKS

If you need to run XP then since BootCamp no longer supports it, your only choice would be on of the virtual software packages to run Windows.

  • How much space does iOS 6 or iOS 7 require?

On a 8 GB iphone how much space does iOS 6 or iOS 7 take up?

No one can tell you specifically, as it will vary by device and user and according to your personal data on the device etc. But, you can expect anywhere roughly around 175-195MB.

  • How much space does iPages for iPhone need?

The best part is I already have iPages on my MacBook and iMac.  That program lets me do so much, but what can it do on the iPhone, and how much space will it consume?  I know it's relatively new to iPhone users, but just curious if anyone is using it on that device and whether or they have any comments.  Thanks in advance!

    Hi Allan S,
I have looked at that, but I guess I really have another question, if you can help.
Can documents on the iPhone be transferred to my home iMac or MB via syncing besides via Mail? I'm still contemplating iWork.com; as I still need more information before using that medium.
(Definitely not via iCloud. I had a very bad experience with my first trial at using iCloud, and will not use it again unless something can be done about the huge battery drain problem on older iPhone 4's running iOS 5. That's another issue all by itself.)
