How must getElementsByTagName work on an xml file with namespaces?

Hello together,
is there any normative document, which specifies
which nodes must be returned by
the org.w3c.dom.Document method
getElementsByTagName when which was
created by a namespace aware dom parser
from an xml file containing namespaces?
In other words:
when you have an xml file:
<someprefix:somenode xmlns:someprefix="http://someuri">
<someprefix:innertag>
<someprefix:mostinnertag>
</someprefix:mostinnertag>
<someprefix:mostinnertag>
</someprefix:mostinnertag>
</someprefix:innertag>
</someprefix>
and you call
document.getElementsByTagName( ... );
1) How many nodes must be returned when giving
"mostinnertag" as parameter?
2) How many nodes when giving "someprefix:mostinnertag" as parameter?
Is it allowed to use the "non namespaceaware"
method and not "getElementsByTagNameNS"?
I know:
a) xerces returns 2 nodes when using
alternative 2 and none with alternative 1
b) oracle xml parser returns 2 nodes when using
alternative 1 and none when using alternative 2
Which implementation is right?
Yours
Stefan

I've got some problems with this methos and xerces too.
Perhaps the two implementations (xerces and oracle) are different. I mean xerces implementation gives you nodes of this name but without namespace and oracles's implementation gives you modes with namespace whose unprefix-name is "mostinnertag".

    You could also look at something like Apache Digester, which will parse your XML and populate Java objects with the data. A slightly steeper learning curve than the lower-level APIs such as JDOM, but that's outweighed by the lesser development effortdon't think that would work for the original problem, which seemed to indicate that the xml had an unknown structure.

  • How to comment/uncomment section of XML file with JAXP?

    Hi,
    I need to periodically under some condition, comment or uncomment a section of my XML file. I want to know is there a way that I can do it with JAXP?
    I am using JDK 1.5
    Thanks,

    Hi Sachi,
    >>Now I have to pupulate flat file where 1st row of the file should always be field names.
    Duplicate the target node and map you field names to the first instance and the mapping logic to the next instance
    eg:
    Suppose your target structure is:
    -root
    -->Details
    >FName
    >LName
    Do a Mapping like this:
    -root
    -->Details
    ><FName>FName </FName>
    ><LName>LName </LName>
    -->Details (use mapping logic hereafter)
    ><FName>
    ><LName>

    I could not found what is wrong.
    Two things are wrong :
    1) Lack of namespace declaration
    2) You're trying to project repeating nodes into a single row
    This should work :
    SELECT x1.ReportCreated
         , x2.*
    FROM XMLTable(
           XMLNamespaces(default 'http://www.post.ch/schemas/dfu/2006/20/Report11')
         , '/ROOT/Sender'
           passing xmltype(:xml_response)

           , items         xmltype      path 'Provider/Data/Item'

  • Parsing this XML file with namespace

    I need to parse the following XML structure:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <ArrayOfTitles xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns="http://example.com/">

      </Titles>
      <Titles>
        <articleID>456</articleID>
        <articleTitle>Title 2</articleTitle>
      </Titles>
      <Titles>
        <articleID>789</articleID>
        <articleTitle>Title 3</articleTitle>
      </Titles>
    </ArrayOfTitles>
    I am using this code:
    var ns:Namespace = new Namespace("http://example.com/");
    var strings:XMLList = xml.ns::Titles;
    for each(var str:XML in strings)
    trace(str);
    But the output still has the namespace in each node.

    Well, I have to say openning a new file writer every time you write a block of characters is pretty horrible, why not just use one buffered writer for the whole operation. I can't see the memory leak, but I think this would run agonisingly slowly.

  • How-to use Excel for the XML file input?

    Hello all,
    Following our discussion with Gerhard Steinhuber on the very nice tutorial from Horst Schaude , "How to upload mass data via XML File Input" , I am starting this new discussion.
    In the comments section of this previous cited tutorial, Rufat Gadirov explains how to use a generated XML from Eclipse instead of your XSD file as your source in Excel.
    However, in spite of all the instructions, I am still facing the same issue in Excel when I try to save my file as XML : "The XML maps in this workbook are not exportable".
    What I try to do is to create one or more Sales Orders with multiple Items in it from a XML File Input, using excel to enter data.
    The part with the File input is working (if I directly upload my file to the webDAV, it creates a sales order instance with multiple items).
    The only missing part is the Excel data input that I cannot make work. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
    Here is my XML file that I try to use as a source in Excel before inputing data from Excel:

    Hello Jacques-Antoine,
    I suppose that as you have tried to construct a map from the schema, you have taken the elements from the List level down. In this case I also can't export the map.
    But if you take the elements from the level MySalesOrderUploaded down, you'll get the exportable map (screenshots)

  • How to convert DOM Tree in XML File

    Hi there,
    I am successful to build a DOM tree in memory where i am adding elements. Now after all this i want to make a XML file of that DOM representation. Now, i am confused with my code that how to transfer DOM structure to xml file ? A small code is attached herewith ?
    doc = db.newDocument();
                   doc.normalizeDocument();
                   doc.setXmlVersion("1.0");
                   doc.createComment("Created By: Sachin Kulkarni");
                   Element rn = doc.createElement("RootNode");

    Is it any problem with the implementation ? How to use fileoutputstream with this ?

    I have done like this:

    DocumentBuilder builder = docBuildFactory.newDocumentBuilder();
    Document doc = builder.newDocument();
    Element root = (Element)doc.createElement("Root");

    Element address = (Element)doc.createElement("Address");
    address.appendChild((Element)doc.createElement("Street"));
    address.appendChild((Element)doc.createElement("PostCode"));
    address.appendChild((Element)doc.createElement("Town"));
    Element country = (Element)doc.createElement("Country");
    country.setAttribute("type","EU");
    Text cname = doc.createTextNode("Spain");
    country.appendChild(cname);
    address.appendChild(country);
    root.appendChild(address);
    TransformerFactory tranFactory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
    Transformer aTransformer = tranFactory.newTransformer();
    aTransformer.setOutputProperty(OutputKeys.INDENT, "yes");
    Source src = new DOMSource(doc);
    Result dest = new StreamResult(new FileOutputStream(new File("test.xml")));
    aTransformer.transform(src, dest);

  • How do you display xml file with xlst sheet in jsp

    I have an xml file with accompanying xslt file (and several images that are used in a single directory. If I doubleclick on the xml file, it displays perfectly in my browser - Formatting, images and all!
              The 100 dollar question - How do I duplicate this behavior in a JSP page in WebLogic 8.1 using the code in the xml and the accompanying xslt (formatting) file? I tried simple embedding the xml code in the jsp, but that didn't seem to work. What is the secret?
              Okay, I need to add a bit more information here. I understand that it is really easy to just redirect to the XML file. The issue is really security. I want the XML to be inside a jsp that will only allow validated users to view it.
              Another way to look at the problem would be, can I add a jsp security tag to the xml file? Or how to I add the xml code inside a jsp and keep the path references to the xslt and graphics.
              Hope the added information helps
              Thanks,
              Ken

    My "itunes library" folder is empty.  My libray music (prior to upgrading itunes) is now in an .xml file in my itunes location under my music.  How do I extract/convert this .xml file to a Itunes database and restore my Itunes music library??? Thanks, Tom

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
    Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
    See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
    When you get it all working make a backup!

  • How do i update an existing XML File?

    Hello, I have the following xml file gps.xml:<?xml version="1.0"?>
    <!DOCTYPE gps SYSTEM "gps.dtd">
    <gps>
       <latitude>43.00000</latitude>

    </gps> I already have methods written to get the values. But how can I change these values and update the file to reflect these changes?
    thanks for your help!

    Hi, I already have this following code. I would just like to add a method to it to update the existing XML file with different lat/lon coordinates. Could you please help me out with it? thanks

  • How can I save a XML file with JAXP1.1?

    Dear All.
    I write a program to create XML file with DOM model, but I can't know how to save it? My environment is JAXP1.1 and JDK1.3.1,I has been required not use other XML parser toolkits,only JAXP1.1.
    How can I do? thank you.
    Many person give me a idea the com.sun.xml.tree.XmlDocument, but I can't find the class in API document or JAXP1.1's packages. why?
    what is it? How can i use it?
    thank you very much.

    The way to save an XML Document is using a Transformer.
    To have access to a transformer use the packages :
    import javax.xml.transform.*;
    import javax.xml.transform.dom.*;
    import javax.xml.transform.stream.*;
    Then for saving your Document Object (named dXml) get a Transformer Object with the TransformerFactory Object :
    TransformerFactory tf = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
    Transformer t = tf.newTransformer();
    Now you have got your Transformer Object, to save your Document Object use the method :
    Document dXml = getMyDocument(); // this is your Document Object.
    OutputStream osSave = getMySaveStream(); // this the OutputStream you need to save your Document.
    try
    t.transform(new DomSource(dXml), new StreamResult(new OutputStreamWriter(osSave)));
    finally
    osSave.close();
    And your Document was now saved.

  • How to Insert data from an XML file into an Oracle 10g table

    Hello,
    Please can you help me as I have hit a brick wall with this problem.
    We are running version 10g Oracle and we will start receiving XML files with employee data that needs loading into a table, this is the XML file:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <RECRUITS>
    <RECRUIT>
    <FIRST_NAME>Gordon</FIRST_NAME>
    <LAST_NAME>Brown</LAST_NAME>
    <SHORT_NAME>GORDONBROWN</SHORT_NAME>
    <APP_NO>00002</APP_NO>
    <STATUS>M</STATUS>
    <DATE_FROM>21-JUL-2006</DATE_FROM>
    <RESOURCE_TYPE>P</RESOURCE_TYPE>
    <TITLE>Mr</TITLE>
    <DATE_OF_BIRTH>28-DEC-1983</DATE_OF_BIRTH>
    <SOCIAL_SEC>AB128456A</SOCIAL_SEC>
    <PARTTIME_PCT>1</PARTTIME_PCT>
    <SEX>M</SEX>
    <ADDRESS_TYPE>1</ADDRESS_TYPE>
    <ADDRESS>A HOUSE SOMEWHERE HERE</ADDRESS>
    <ZIP_CODE>PE3 LLL</ZIP_CODE>
    <PLACE>BOROUGH</PLACE>
    <COUNTRY_CODE>UK</COUNTRY_CODE>
    <PROVINCE>UK</PROVINCE>
    <EMAIL>[email protected]</EMAIL>
    </RECRUIT>
    (FYI - there may be more than 1 employee in each file so all of the above will be repeated X amount of times)
    </RECRUITS>
    To make things simple we have created a table which mirrors the XML file completely to load the data into, the SQL i have used is thus:
    CREATE TABLE RECRUITMENT
    FIRST_NAME VARCHAR2(30),
    LAST_NAME VARCHAR2(30),
    SHORT_NAME VARCHAR2(30),
    APP_NO NUMBER,
    STATUS VARCHAR2(1),
    DATE_FROM DATE,
    RESOURCE_TYPE VARCHAR2(1),
    TITLE VARCHAR2(4),
    DATE_OF_BIRTH DATE,
    SOCIAL_SEC VARCHAR2(9),
    PARTTIME_PCT NUMBER,
    SEX VARCHAR2(1),
    ADDRESS_TYPE VARCHAR2(1),
    ADDRESS VARCHAR2(30),
    ZIP_CODE VARCHAR2(8),
    PLACE VARCHAR2(10),
    PROVINCE VARCHAR2(3),
    EMAIL VARCHAR2(20)
    Every method we try from the numerous documents and so called "user guides" have failed, please can somebody show me the PL/SQL i need to get this files data into the above table?
    We need to be able to do this purely through SQL*PLUS as we hope - if we ever get it working manually to create a procuedure that will encapsulate everything so it can be run over and over again.
    The XML file is sitting in the XMLDIR and is called REC.XML.
    Please help : (

    Hi, I have got some material for inserting data into oracle table from xml file, this might help you.
    Create XML Document Table
    create table XML_DOCUMENT_TABLE
    FILENAME varchar2(64),
    XML_DOCUMENT XMLTYPE
    (This will be as per your record details).
    Inserting record to Oracle Table
    declare
    XML_TEXT CLOB := '<smsnotification>
                   <messageid> 256427844 </messageid>
              <protocolid> CO0NPS2KHQ </protocolid>
              <notifiedon> 1156123007416 </notifiedon>
              <status> 3PBI: Invalid </status>
    <additionalinfo> Customer account not active </additionalinfo>
    <carrierid> 1175 </carrierid>
    </smsnotification>';
    begin
    insert into XML_DOCUMENT_TABLE values ('Receipt.xml',XMLTYPE(XML_TEXT));
    end;
    Select Statement
    select extractValue(XML_DOCUMENT,'/smsnotification/messageid') Messageid,
    extractValue(XML_DOCUMENT,'/smsnotification/status') Status,
    extractValue(XML_DOCUMENT,'/smsnotification/carrierid') CarrierID
    from XML_DOCUMENT_TABLE;
