How NOT to Install iPhoto 11, when installing iLife 11

With the very many issue's I'm seeing throughout these iPhoto 11 discussions,
Is there way to ONLY install GarageBand and iMovie from the iLife 11 disc?
I installed iLife 11 on a test machine (my Mac Mini) and I'm not happy with iPhoto 11.
BEFORE I install this on my iMac 24 (with over 24,000 real pictures, with tons of edits, keywords and organization throughout),
I'd like to NOT install iPhoto 11, while installing the balance of the disc.
Possible?....How, please?
Thank You, In Advance

In all fairness, when I stated that I don't like iPhoto '11, it was not because of bugs, or lost photo library's or issues installing. My install went perfect and without a hitch.
I dislike iPhoto '11 because I don't like the reduced functionality built into iPhoto '11. The elimination of features and the loss of a more productive and flexible application that iPhoto '09 is, over iPhoto '11, is why I'm not installing it.
Here are my four examples, at minimum. Of course, if you don't use these features, then like ladymac, you will be pleased with iPhoto '11. Like they say, ignorance is bliss.
1) The elimination of Keywords under each picture.
This is huge for me, with over 24,000 pictures and growing. Putting the Keyword off to the side, and ONLY viewable one picture at a time is not sane. With an extensive use of keywords across 24,000 pictures, I can easily tag and find pics. But if you don't use keywords, or never used them, ignorance is bliss.
2) The elimination of "exporting" to mail. This would allow you to re-size pics at your discretion. Attach more than 10 pics at a time. 20, 30, 40 pics or more are possible under iPhoto '09. And deciding NOT to use their stationary. OR to use their stationary. If you never had this flexibility and choice, ignorance is bliss.
3) The elimination of TRUE FULL SCREEN editing and viewing. This allows you to view any picture without tool bars or buttons alongside or underneath the picture. If you never edited this way, again, ignorance is bliss.
4) The color gamut produced under iPhoto '11 is off. I expect this is a bug OR Apple has decided that they feel the colors in iPhoto '11 are a better representation than those under '09. If you can't tell the difference, again, ignorance is bliss.

  • How can i install Ilife?????

    Hello everyone,
    I got my Os Leopard and did intall it on my machine. When i did it, i choose to erase and install. Now i have a perfect Leopard running.
    I really want to work with Ilife, i thought that Ilefe 8 was included, but is not. ( Deception ) So I have my Mac OS intall disc Version 10.4.7 what came with my computer. How can I install Ilife? I can't find it on the discs.
    Thanks you all

    fjunho,
    You need the original "Software Restore" disk #1 that came with your iMac (these disks are light grey, and there should be two of them; #1 and #2). While running normally in Leopard, insert the disk. Look on this disk for the "Install Bundled Software" package, and double-click it. This will open that package in the OS X installer application.
    The first thing that the installer does is check your computer against what will be installed. The "Software Restore" disks that come with all Macs are hardware-specific, and can only be used on the model with which it came. Provided you have the right disk set, you should proceed directly to the installation process. Click the "Customize" button, when it appears, to select only those components you wish to install.
    If you are certain that you are, in fact, using the original "Software Restore" disks that came with your Mac, yet the installer refuses to recognize them as such, you need to contact Apple. Didi you purchase this computer directly from Apple, an authorized reseller, or through some other channel? Was this iMac purchased brand-new by you, or is it a second-hand machine?
    Scott
    EDIT: Another possibility is that you do not have enough space remaining on your startup disk. iLife requires several GBs of space; if you do not have enough, that might explain the message you are receiving. -s

    If you have a book started in iPhoto 6 then you might want to make a backup copy of the library and the application as some book themes are not included in iPhoto 7. iPhoto 7 will continue to work with that theme but if you switch to another to see what it looks like you can't go back. Another approach is to make a copy of the book in iPhoto 6 for backup just in case, select it and type Command-D.
    It apperars that the new large hardcover books have printed dust jackets with the cover photo instead of the photo on the hard cover.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How do I stop iPhoto opening when not wanted?

    I don't use iPad - I prefer Lightroom.  So when my iMac was updated to Yosemite iPhoto started opening every time I plug a compact flash card into the iMac.  This is annoying to say the least as each time I have to close it making sure it doesn't start importing images into the wrong place.
    How do I "turn off" this feature?  No is no help in the iPhoto "help" and online Apple isn't any better.

    Changing this in iPhoto alone may not suffice. Then change the setting in Image Capture as well.
    Insert your Compact Card reader with the card inserted.
    Then launch Image Capture.
    Under "Devices" select your card reader. Then click the disclosure triangle in the lower left corner to reveal the ""Connecting this ... opens" and set this to Light Room or "No Application".
    You will have to do this for each photo device (camera, iPhone, iPad, ...) you own.

  • How can I fix iPhoto? When I turn it on or plug my phone in iPhoto will not open fully. It will also not want me to quit it, and wont allow me to shut off my laptop. What can i do?

    My iphoto just does not want to work!
    Thank you for your help

    What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
    Option 1
    Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
    This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
    Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • How do I install iLife '08 onto an iMac PPC G4 with OS X 10.5.5?

    When I put in the installation disk for iLife '08, the machine never brings up the iLife '08 icon that I'm supposed to double-click to install the software.
    I meet all of the hardware requirements except those for iMovie, which I'm not interested in. I'm really interested in iPhoto.
    And my DVD works just fine, as I can read other disks no problem.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Rheal23

    Sounds like either a bad DVD or a bad optical drive. In some cases you may be able to duplicate the disc and then use the duplicate. You will need a blank DVD-R.
    Duplicate a CD or DVD
    1. Insert the DVD/CD;
    2. Open Disk Utility, and select the DVD/CD from the left side list (select the DVD/CD icon on top);
    3. from the DU File menu select New | Disk Image from Disk 1;
    4. Choose to format the disk image as DVD/CD Master, name the disk image and click Save;
    5. When the .cdr file is finished select it with mouse and press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info and check the box to lock the file;
    6. Choose the .cdr file from the left side list, click Burn, and insert a new, blank DVD or CD.
    If this isn't successful then you will need to contact AppleCare or the vendor from whom you purchase iLife to get a replacement disc.

  • [Flex 4.5.1] DropDownController - how NOT to close drop down when clicked on? Example provided!

    http://www.nedyalkov.net/filip/flex_projects_tests/DropDownControllerTest/ - view source enabled
    When you click the button a drop down is shown. All I want to do is stop it from closing when you click on the drop down. I read a bit from the source code of the DropDownController and it seems like it should check if the mouse is clicked on the openButton or on the dropDown and if it is one of them keep the dropDown open if it's somewhere outside - close it. But in my case - when I click on the dropDown in closes itself... I tried to add it to the hitAreaAdditions... no luck the same problem.
    So the question is: How do I make the drop down NOT to close when clicked on?
    Please check my example and let me know what am I doing wrong... should be very simple but... thanks!

    First to correct my example - since I copied the code for the drop down from the dropDownListSkin it has includeIn="open" which causes my dropDown to be null when I set it to dropDownController.dropDown. To fix the example if you test it just remove the includeIn and autoDestructionPolicy lines.
    I believe I have found a bug in the DropDownController, would be nice if adobe employee confirms this or correct me if I am wrong.
    Here is the source function the code marked in red is with the issue:
    mx_internal function systemManager_mouseDownHandler(event:Event):void
            // stop here if mouse was down from being down on the open button
            if (mouseIsDown)
                mouseIsDown = false;
                return;
            if (!dropDown ||
                (dropDown &&
                 (event.target == dropDown
                 || (dropDown is DisplayObjectContainer &&
                     !DisplayObjectContainer(dropDown).contains(DisplayObject(event.target))))))
                if (hitAreaAdditions != null)
                    for (var i:int = 0;i<hitAreaAdditions.length;i++)
                        if (hitAreaAdditions[i] == event.target ||
                            ((hitAreaAdditions[i] is DisplayObjectContainer) && DisplayObjectContainer(hitAreaAdditions[i]).contains(event.target as DisplayObject)))
                            return;
                closeDropDown(true);
    I think these lines of code were ment to look like this (notice the black exclamation mark):
    (dropDown &&
                 (event.target != dropDown
                 || (dropDown is DisplayObjectContainer &&
                     !DisplayObjectContainer(dropDown).contains(DisplayObject(event.target)))))
    or like this (should be the same thing):
    dropDown && !(DisplayObjectContainer(dropDown).contains(DisplayObject(event.target))
    So this bug causes the drop down to close wherever you click when the event.target is the dropDown itself. Workarounds I guess are put another component in the drop down and "cover" the dropDown with it so it doesn't get any hits or use the hitAreaAdditions.

  • How not to notify a user when the task is cancel

    Hi,
    I have this workflow in GP,
    Apply Timeoff --> Recommend Timeoff --> Approved Timeoff
    Where Applicant can apply for Timeoff (via ApplyTimeoff block), RecommendingOfficer can "Recommend" or "Reject" timeoff (via the RecommendTimeoff block), and finally the Approving Officer can "Approved" or "Reject" the recommendation (via the ApprovedTimeoff block)
    The GP is configured in such that the ApplyTimeOff block have successful result state Target to RecommendTimeoff block. In the RecommendTimeoff block, it has the successful result state, targets to the ApprovedTimeoff block whereas the unsuccessful result state target to Terminate. Likewise for the ApprovedTimeoff block, it has both the successful and unsuccessful result state target to Terminate.
    Those roles are in GP and they are map to the EP Group respectively. And in each group, there are EP users tag to it.
    During Application of the ApplyTimeoff, I have a drop down list of RecommendingOfficer which I can select in WD UI. And Once I selected the particular person from the list, the request will route to the RecommendingOfficer as a pending task in the GP Runtime. From here, that selected person from that Recommending Officer can "Recommend" or "Reject" the request.
    When that person from the RecommendingOfficer approved, the request will route again and this time to the Approving Officer.
    However, when the reject the request, the task will also be route to the Approving officer.
    How do I configured in such as way that when the recommending Officer reject, it request will not be route to the Approving Officer as a pending task?
    can help? Thank you.
    thank you.

  • *MUST READ!!!* HOW NOT TO ERASE YOUR FILES WHEN SYNCING ON A NEW COMPUTER

    Oh my GOD!! This is the biggest breakthrough since the discovery of fire.
    Ever have a time when you had to erase ALL your files on your ipod/iphone/ipad because you are changing computers or your computer was destroyed?
    There is a  solution.
    ****This is needed by ONLY those who was syncing with the itunes on AT LEAST one category.(ex : music, video, app, books, pictures...) on the previous computer you were using.
    If you had not synced with itunes on NO categories at all, and were doing EVERYTHING manually, you will not have any problems on a new computer, so you do not need this information.
    Also, the ones who are trying to sync automatically(Seriously? you want to do that?) with itunes will not need this post. Do not read further.
    So... the ones who are still reading are, 1. Have synced with itunes on at least one category. In my case, I was auto-syncing the application. 2. Have experienced enough frustration with itunes, therefore NOT thinking about syncing with itunes automatically.
    ok. here it goes. When you go to a new computer, CHECK 'manage musics and videos manually'. And other categories(apps, pictures) should NOT be checked 'sync with itunes'. However, when you click apply, it will not work and require you to erase everything on your phone, even though you have pressed manage musics and videos manually. What I am saying is, even if you want to manage it manually, when you connect with a new computer, it will erase all of your data just for fun. Anyway, What you should do when this happens is, click yes. Then, itunes will start to erase all your precious info.
    This is tricky now. 0.2 seconds after you click yes(yes, I will erase all my previous info), PULL OUT the usb cable!! HEH....
    Then, when you put it back in, your iphone data will not have been erased, and the computer thinks that it erased all your files, and will give in to your command and follow your orders. Now you can manually manage your iphone on a new computer without erasing everything.
    I am so happy now.
    ***Disclaimer*** I will not take any responsiblitiy of the happiness caused by this post. Also, I will not take any responsiblity for any data-corruption or any other problems caused by implementing this method, although I am quite confident that as long as you don't take more than 2 seconds to pull the usb cable out after you pressed 'yes, i will erase', it will be okay.
    P.S. If your life became better by this post, please say something below. Heh. Have a nice day.
    P.P.S. Apple. Why do you erase everything on the phone when we decide to no longer sync with itunes? Is it THAT hard to make the option to let the user decide whether to erase the existing data on the phone?
    P.P.S. Just a joke, but, I have once heard that the reason itunes is a memory hogger and take up so much space though it has really few options is because the programmer of itunes copied and pasted the source code 1000000 times.

    Step 1. Backup your library regularly.
    Step 2. After rebuilding/changing computers restore the backup.

  • How to install ilife?

    How do you install ilife 06? Also affter installed do you have to register the product through apple? or is it optional?

    PF:
    Are you running an earlier version of iPhoto and the other iApps? If so and you have any unfinished iDVD projects you'll need to either finish them with the current iDVD or make a duplicate copy of your iPhoto Library folder, name it iPhoto06 Library and make it the current library before you install iLife 06. That way iPhoto 6 will update that one and leave the original alone for iDVD. That's because the folder system in iPhoto gets changed drastically and iDVD will lose all of its links to the files in iPhoto (if you are using any) and it's essentially impossible to re-link them. Keeping the original library folder makes it possible to continue with the iDVD project.
    As usual it's wise to repair disk permissions before and after the installation. There's an option during the installation process to go online and register. As I understand it it's optional. There is not serial no. or the like to register. It just lets them know you're using that version and will get update emails from Apple about updates.

  • Access figures which are not part of iPhoto

    Hello,
    as a MAC rookie, I have a question which has been potentially asked already many times.
    I want to import a picture or a figure into keynote / numbers / pages and the figure is not part of iPhoto.
    When I open 'Media' I can only access pictures and figures which are in iPhoto. See screenshot below.
    How can I access files which are stored somewhere else?
    Thanks!

    The Media browser is just one option. It collects all the info stored in iMovie, iTunes, iPhoto and displays it in one place.
    From the Insert menu (in Pages), select "Choose..." and navigate to the file. Or, do something really Mac-like and drag the picture from the Finder into the program.
