How NOT to select hidden objects

Hi,
could somebody please tell me if there's a way NOT to select hidden or locked objects inside a layer/group every time that layer/group is selected in the layer pallette? It's a minor but a very annoying thing, due to which I'm always unintentionally shifting or deleting ojbects that I need to stay in place (which is why they've been locked or hidden in the first place).

If you select the group in the layers palette, by clicking the selection column to the far right next to the group's name, it will not select locked/hidden objects. Unfortunately this doesn't work for a layer and if you have more groups in a layer you have to Shift click on the selection column of each group.
When you drag copy by holding Alt objects selected like that the copies remain in the same group it doesn't create a new group minus the locked/hidden objects.

How do you select an object that is directly under another object?
I was working from a template and I wanted to make a text box the same size as a column box that was put there in order to keep the text in the confines of the paper that is was being printed to.
I could actually put text in each column fine but I wanted it to be in a text box so that I could slightly tilt the test box to compensate for my printer feeding it in slightly wrong. I accomplished this on another template but I could not on this one. If I was working in InDesign or something I know I could just select that layer but I'm at a loss of what to do here. How do I select a column right under a text box? I just thought of something. Once I make the text boxes the same size as the columns I think I can just delete the columns from the inspector. But that would be kind of a work around. I know you can hold down command when nothing is selected from outside the document and then highlight but this is not working. Does anyone have some tips and tricks when it comes to having control over which objects you are selecting when it comes to objects that are overlapped as well as directly over each other.

I'm not sure it's documented any where, but it's not too difficult. First, ⌘-click outside of the layout area to enter object mode then drag the cursor towards the two objects until you see the handles. Now, again ⌘-click on the top object to deselect it. You can now move the underlying object to the front to edit, delete, etc.
After typing this, it dawned on me, why not just click the top object to select it & move it to the back? I've only done the other way a bazillion times & now I think of this.

Hi Sai,
Go to Report Element Tab-->There you have a Tab Cell Behaviors.
When you flip between 'With Data' and 'Structure Only' under 'Design' Tab,you can see the some cells will be hide/Un hide behavior,if hiding of cells applied.
Select that cell and then Under 'Cell Behaviors'-->'Hide' Tab-->and choose Show Option.

How does one select hidden elements?

I have 50 or so elements on the stage that are exactly the same size and set on top of each other, but since they are set to be hidden and revealed at different times I find I cant select them all to move them as one. Even if I group them into a div and move them, the only one that moves is the one that has the timeline needle on it at that moment.
Is there a way of selecting all items, even if they are at that moment turned off? A way of selecting through time as well as space?:)

Select your item in the elements panel on the right.
Now look at your timeline. If you look on the left of the timeline, you will see the display property showing as 'off' in yellow. Click on it. It will change to 'on'. Proceed to make your change as you now see your object. Then when you are done with your change, get back to that frame if your are not there any more and click on 'on' and it will turn to 'off' again.

1. Goto menu, TRANSLATION, choose the objects coming under categories, ABAP object or Non-ABAP objects
after choosing the right object, double click on the item.
For reports, use the following method.
1->Translation->ABAP object->long texts (Documentations)
2->choose F1 Help or OTHER Documentation->TEXTS.

BW 3.5 - How can I select TADIR objects in a specific date range?

Hi everybody,
I have the necessity to obtain a list of BW objects in a specific date range. I have observed that using TADIR table it is impossible because a timestamp is not present. I have also the necessity to group the BW objects using the object type of the TADIR table (e.g. PROG for Program).
Any idea?

I would suggest you try put table TADIR in SE11 and generating a "Where-Used List (CtrlShiftF5)" Also you should try double click on data element SOBJ_NAME in the database view of TADIR and generate a Where-Used List on that field, then you can see the relationships of the table/field.

Selecting multiple objects in Pages '09

Hi everybody,
I was just wondering how to easily select multiple objects in Pages, as in Keynote. I mean, in Keynote you can just drag the mouse over the objects you want to select, and that's it. But in Pages I haven't be able to do that (not even with option or command keys), so I have to press shift and click on every object I want to select. This is quite tedious when you want to select many objects.
Any help on that?

Thanks to both, I already sent my feedback to Apple, and I really hope that iWork X comes out soon, with more wonderful features.
I have tried fruhulda's advice and it works, my thanks for that! My question now is: Why Apple doesn't provide any help on that? I knew that cmd-A selected all the floating objects on the document, but I needed to select only a few of them. That was the only Keynote feature I was missing (apart from the themes, with all those predefined colors, backgrounds, textures...).

Is there a way to shift select multiple objects in layer palette, not just highlight multiple objects?
I would want to do this when I have a bunch of objects hidden under some other objects on the artboard. This feature is available in PSD, so I assume Illustrator should have it.

I'm using CS4 & below.
Highlighting object - click on object in layers palette & it turns blue
Select object - click on object in layers palette to the right of the circle, which creates a square, and selects the object on the artboard
How do I shift-select multiple objects in the layers palette...select 50 objects with a click, then a shift-click? Shift-select works for highlighting, but not selecting. On most programs shift-select is used to grab a bunch of stuff...:0)
In the past I have inadvertently selected multiple objects in the layers palette, by somehow alt?-dragging over the layers...or something...I can't re-create it.

Get-MailboxStatistics command to run and not count hidden objects

I have a script that generates a report on a set of mailboxes in an OU and how many messages are in the Inbox using the following command:

There is a lot more to this script and it outputs a lot of information, but the count of items in the inbox is always wrong. It seems to be counting a lot of hidden items which users cannot see. From my reading in many forums this is a common problem, and
so far I have not found a solution.

All $Hidden----- variables are set to values from an imported file that must be updated regularly. It's messy, but at least it is getting the information we need to those that need it. If anyone can suggest a way to make this work without the constant need

the last version of Mac OS X which supported running PowerPC apps on Intel Macs was Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). If you’d like to play this PowerPC game on your Intel MacBook Pro, then you’ll need to install Snow Leopard on it and boot into Snow Leopard. (Note that the last MacBook Pro which natively supported Snow Leopard was the Early 2011 model.)
The game was almost certainly published before Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) was released, so back then, all versions of “Mac OS X 10.3 or higher” would have supported running that PowerPC game.

How do I batch-rename objects/paths (not just layers)?

Question from a complete n00b:
I need to rename a large number of selected objects/paths. This is because I want to use another script that only works when my objects have the default name, "<Path>". So really, I just need to remove existing names of objects.

Of course, I could manually remove names by double-clicking on objects in the layers palette and deleting the name, but that's no fun.
I've found some great scripts for renaming layers, but nothing for non-layer objects.
First, I'm trying to remove names from ALL objects in the document. once that's working, I want to only remove names of selected objects.
Here's my very simple non-working javascript - (the whole thing):
app.activeDocument.pageItem.name = "";
my test Ai file is also really basic: a few rectangles, some of which have been named in the layers palette.
When I run this, I get:
Error 21: undefined is not and object.
Line: 1
->     app.activeDocument.pageItem.name = "";
I've tried a number of other approaches, and either get "undefined is not an object" or nothing happens.
pageItem has "name" as a writable property, so I think it's what to use, but I really don't know what I'm doing - help!
I'd also happy to use actions, but I'm stuck on that too.

currently, it renames with no text. In other words, it removes existing names.
One thing that was messing me up was that new names are not immediately displayed - you have to unselect your selected objects before names in the layers palette refresh.

Scripts: Select an object with a note, duplicating and applying swatch

I am trying to write a Javascript that can do the following:
1) Select an object whose note has <Object Name> (so its layers is also selected)
2) Duplicate the layer of that object
3) Rename the new layer to <Layer Name>
4) Apply a swatch to the object on the new layer (the object is only single colour)
5) Apply a new note to the object (over-writing the original note).
I also want to write a separate script that can do the following:
1) Select an Object whose note has <Object Name> (so its layer is selected as well)
2) Hide all other layers
3) Save a copy of the document with a specific name
I can do this as an Illustrator action. However, I need several different copies of the scripts where the Object Name, Layer Name, Swatch and File Name changes.
Re-recording the action to change the names is cumbersome.
I have looked at the Illustrator scripting reference, but cannot see any commands for select objects by their notes.
I was wondering if someone could give me some pointers on how to proceed (Or possibly, if feeling very generous, could write the script for me )

I am having trouble locating such files as PDF's INDD, AI etc. When I view all hidden files and try to open it in the program..it looks like it is really not on the drive. Has anyone come across a solution?

You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this,boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type: ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.
