How often are people having to restore the 3GS

I had this problem back in July where the 3GS would tell me every two or three days that it had to be restored. I thought maybe a 3rd party app could be part of the problem so I restored the phone back factory settings but it was still happening. Now I am at the point where the phone has to be restored once or more a day. Is this just a dead phone I should bring back to Apple? Having to restore this frequently is ridiculous.

Is Itunes telling you that you need to restore when you connect the iphone? I had that problem multiple times, and traced it to a bad cable.
I initially used the Apple sync cable that came with my 3GS for several weeks, and had no problem whatsoever. Then I switched to an aftermarket cable that came with an aftermarket dock. About 80% of the time using that cable, iTunes would say something like "An iPhone has been detected, but it could not be identified properly", or "iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPhone". Both of these error dialogs included instruction to Restore the phone (which I HAD to do, because iTunes wouldn't let me do anything else).
I switched back to the included Apple sync cable, and every connection/sync worked perfectly. Tried the aftermarket cable again, and got the same error. Defintely a bad cable. I permanently retired that particular cable, and have had no problem since.
Bottom line... If iTunes it telling you it can't identify or read the phone, you may have a bad cable. Try a different cable and see if that helps.

  • How often are the maps in the Maps app updated?

The Maps app couldn't locate a 2 well known stores right off of the highway that have existed for well over a year, possibly 2.  The location is seen in the iOS 5 Maps, but there's nothing but an empty location in the iOS 6 app.  How frequently are locations updated?!

The satellite imagery on Apple Maps shows that whole area as undeveloped woods.   Google shows a brand new building with the nearby streets.
Use the "Report a Problem" button on the Maps to inform Apple of the required update.

  • How can 2 people use itunes in the same household? we both have iphone 4 and separate id but the same itunes? pleasehelp

how can two people use itunes in the same household? i had a iphone before so alreday had an itunes account now me and my husband have upgraded and we now both have them. he has set up a username and i have mine yet when he logs in he seems to just get my account? please help

Decide which iPhone will be keeping the current iCloud account.  On the one that will be changing accounts, if you have any photos in photo stream that are not in your camera roll or backed up somewhere else save these to your camera roll by opening the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tapping Edit, then tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share and tap Save to Camera Roll.  If you are syncing Notes with iCloud, you'll also have to email your notes to yourself so they can be recreated in the new account as they cannot be migrated.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud.  The phone that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.)  When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On My iPhone.  Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom).  Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to the new account.
Finally, to un-merge the data you will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want (such as deleting your wife's data from your account, and vice versa).

  • ASMLibs - How often are these updated?

I am working with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and there is a new kernel that has come out to fix a security issue, but I cannot update this due to the version of ASM that is posted on Oracle's site. How often are these items updated compared to when a new kernel is released (as in this issue)?

  • How often are FP Server subscriptions sent out?

According to http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/3346, "The network module periodically sends and receives a time-synchronization signal so that it can adjust its clock and provide proper timestamping. When signals do not change over long periods of time, the client (the FieldPoint Server) sends periodic resubscribe messages to verify that the system is still online."
How often are Fieldpoint Server subscriptions sent out for resubscription?  Can the time period be adjusted?

    CoN_Glenn,
That's a really good question.  I am currently investigating this with some colleagues of mine, and I will post what I find out as soon as I know.

There's no set schedule. The MacBook Pro (non-retina) was last updated in summer 2012 so it's overdue for a refresh. I would check http://buyersguide.macrumors.com.
If you can wait a few weeks, I would.

The new Business Volume Purchase Program is pretty interesting...it can be used to centrally purchase and distribute paid ( not free) items from the AppStore.  We are getting setup to use it.  You can keep an eye on licenses etc.  You can also use a single centralized form of payment.

  • How to Stop Firefox 18 From Restoring the Previous Session After a Crash

Firefox 18.0.1 running on Windows 7
When Firefox crashes, the next time it opens it tries to restore the previous session. I do not want Firefox to restore the previous session after a crash. How do I prevent Firefox from restoring the previous session after a crash?
    Please note:
1- My home page is set to "blank page"
2- I have configured Firefox to NOT remember my browsing history, download history, form fields and passwords.
3- Even in Safe Mode (i.e., with all add-ons disabled), Firefox STILL restores the previous session after a crash.

hello Bulldogger, please try the following in order to switch off sessionrestore completely: enter '''about:config''' into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preferences named '''browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo''' and '''browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo'''. double-click on those entries and change both of their values to '''0'''.

  • How often are you using the Internet on the iPhone?

I was wondering how often you guys are using the Internet on the iPhone?
Do you guys enjoy using the the Internet on it?
Also, do you like the keyboard on it?
Just letting you know that I am typing this on my iPhone!!
    Sam

I flew from PDX to DAB today browsing the internet both via wi fi (fast) and Edge (slow, but usable) at various airports and other locations. This browser is the best! I do not have to take a laptop with me anymore. The re size feature is the key, all phone browsers will have this in the future.
Its been years since I was excited about anything in the tech world (and I own a Software company) but I gotta hand it to Apple they really did a job with the iPhone.

  • HT1688 How often are new phones generally shipped to the Apple stores?

Does anyone know how often new iphone 5's are generally shipped to the stores?  Seems like they have been out since they were released.

I figured.  Live in Nashville, so not the biggest market, but have 2 stores nearby in very nice malls and neither one of them have had any for in-store pickup all week.  Been on at 10 every night.  Frustrated.  Cancelled my order with AT&T because I ordered on the 14th and took them 2 days to process, putting me in the Oct 5th-15th window.  Total crap.  Guess i should have just sucked it up now.

i am having trouble restoring my ipod touch to factory settings...i am connected to the pc, pc is recognizing unit in restore mode, but will not do anything else...any suggestions?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all media and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • How often do people charge their Touch?

Hi everyone, I have a 16g 2 gen that I have had since September. It seems that I have to charge my Touch daily because when I use the apps to play games or use wi-fi it eats up the battery. I just wish Apple would have stated that when one uses applications or wi-fi the battery decreases immensely. Before I bought the Touch I had read that the 2nd gen Touch gives you a 36 hour battery when fully charged. Now maybe for people who just use the Touch to play music only and turn everything else off then I can see getting more out of a battery charge (though I find it hard to believe that one could get 36 hours playing music). If I just wanted to listen to music only I would have bought a different IPOD. I love the fact that there are so many applications one can use and love the wi-fi (though wish that it supported flash) but am concerned that having to charge my Touch daily will give me only a little bit over a year of battery life and then would either have to buy a new Touch or by a new battery. I was hoping that my Touch would last over 2 years but the way the battery goes it doesn't look likely that will happen. Just wondered what other people have been experiencing with their IPOD Touch and the battery. Thanks for listening.

in the earlier ipods, charging the battery on a regular basis, (and without letting the battery run right down) did gradually reduce the battery life (my original ipod mini for example, lasted a couple of years.)
however the battery in the ipod touch is a new type of battery, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium-ion_battery) which benefits from regular charging, whether you battery is run down or not.
yeah, wifi/gaming/videos take up a lot of battery, but charging it up more frequently will not cause you the same problems it would have done in previous years.
try looking up battery hints threads, there are several decent tips around for maximising your battery's life and length.
