How Often Can MBP Be Put To Sleep?

Hi,
I have recently purchased a MacBook Pro.
How often can it be put to sleep? Will it harm the OS if I Shut Down every time I have finished with the MBP?
How long will the battery last if the MBP is left in sleep for a long period?
Thanks in Advance,

Shutting down is supposedly more stressful to the hardware than sleep, and there's really no practical limit to how often you can put it to sleep.  I probably close and open my MBP several dozen times per day, on average.  It makes me worry a little about the hinge, but I haven't had hinge problems since my old PowerBook G3 more than a decade ago.  (And to be fair, I kind of whacked the hinge kind of hard on that machine, which probably played a role.  )
As for the battery, if you leave the machine sleeping and not plugged in, there is a slight drain over time, but it's not significant unless you leave it that way for a long time - like, for example, if you leave it sleeping with no power cord connected overnight.

Moineauhh you can install and utilize your Creative Cloud Membership on up to two computers.  You can find more details regarding the installation process at Install and update apps - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/install-apps.html.

  • How often can I swap a Creative Cloud activation between more than two systems?

I have three computers - one at work (desktop) and two at home (desktop and laptop). My Adobe CC account is currently installed on two of them (desktop at work, desktop at home) but I would like to swap one of those activations as often as twice a week when I need to take my laptop on the go. i.e. I would activate my laptop and deactivate my home desktop for about 24 hours and then re-deactivate/re-activate..
How often can I do that activate/deactivate without breaking the EULA?

    Hi Midimid,
    Welcome back to Adobe Forum,
In Creative Cloud, you sign in to activate your software.
Make sure that your computer is connected to the Internet.
    Start the application.
Choose Help > Sign In. (If this option is dimmed, you've already signed in and don't need to activate your software.)
Log in with your Adobe ID (usually your email address) to activate your subscription. If you don’t have an Adobe ID, you see an option to create one.
Note: If Creative Cloud prompts you to enter a serial number after signing in, see Creative Cloud applications ask for serial number.
Signing out of one Creative Cloud application deactivates all Creative Cloud applications associated with your Adobe ID on that computer.
Make sure that your computer is connected to the Internet.
    Start the application.
Choose Help > Sign Out (Your Adobe ID).
    Click Sign Out.
Alternately, you can sign out from all Creative Cloud applications on your machine using the Creative Cloud app for desktop.
Open the Creative Cloud Desktop App.
    Choose the Settings icon.
    Choose Preferences.
    Choose Account.
Choose Sign Out from Creative Cloud.

Please check the details in http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-deactivation-products.html#ho w-to
However I would request you to go for Creative Cloud for Team in which you can add the number of seats & install it on computers required.
Hope this information helps you, please mark the post if the issue is addressed, we value your opinion.

You change it the same way you change the information for any Apple ID: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5621.  (An iCloud ID is also an Apple ID.)
After changing the ID, read this to know what to do next: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5796.

how often can i install "adobe creative 5design premium" ?

Yes, provided you understand that install and activate are two different things.
Install as often as you wish.
But you can only activate the software for use on a maximum of two PCs at any one time.
You won't be able to use the software on a 3rd computer (even if it is installed) unless you free up an activation on another PC and then activate the software on the 3rd PC.

  • How to stop computer being put to sleep ?

In Windows 7 Pro I would like to stop the computer putting itself to sleep. It does so even though the time to sleep has been set to 'never' and when all four cores are working at 100 %. I am not concerned about energy efficiency, I would like the machine
to run my software without interruption.

I may have found a way to stop the PC from automatically going to sleep mode.
FYI: Disabling the Hibernate/Hybrid Sleep function will also disable Fast Startup in Win8.
Hope this helps (I'm testing it on my own PC right now to see if the random sleep issue goes away.)

  • How often can I Activate / Deactivate the Creative Suite

    Hello Support Forum Folks,
I am using Creative Suite at 2 pcs. I want to use it at my stationary pc when i am at home and when i am traveling at my laptop. I would like to solve this by activating / deactivating it on the systems. Will there be any problem when i deactivate / activate it every weekend?
    with kindest regards
    Adrian

Sorry, hit send too often. You can keep it activated on the two machines
with no problem at all. The EULA allows for two machines as long as you
are the primary user and both machines are not used at the same time.

  • How often can i overwrite a SSD (MBPr late 2013 Haswell)

    Hello,
do here someone know how many times the SSD's from the new Haswell MBPr late 2013 can be overwrite? I mean the 512 GB Model.
Do here someone have more informations about the SSD? I have reed that it comes from Samsung but i dont know witch technologi here works?
Can a sector here overwrite 1000/3000 or 10000 times.....??
    Thank you very much.
    Bye

Are you SURE that you want to replace the hard drive rather than just add an SSD? If so OWC sells 3.5 to 2.5 spacers. EveryMac says this about your model *This model has a Serial ATA (6 Gb/s) connector for a hard drive as well as a proprietary PCIe connector for an SSD. As reported by site sponsor OWC, if the SSD is not installed at the time of purchase, the connector still is present and later professional or self-installation is possible.

  • How often can I install CS4?

It's probably a dumb question, but here goes:
I've installed a copy of CS4 on my main computer at work.
However, a lot of my work is also done at weekends or evenings on my laptop, for this I use my laptop. Am I allowed to install the same software on said laptop?

Just to be clear....With a single user license you are entitled to install and activate the software on two computers for non-concurrent use by a single user. This means you can't have a second shift using that machine at work while you use the laptop at home.
If you're the sole user of both machines, the EULA allows what you're doing as does the activation system.

  • How often can i re-download purchased media on the same device?

If i purchase a TV show on my Macbook Pro/iPad/iPhone, do i still have to back it up to an external HDD or can i just delete it from my device and re-download it again in the future to re-watch? I am trying to avoid filling up my Macbook Pro HDD and would love to not have to back it up to an external HDD.
    Thanks for your help!

Here is the link to the iTunes Terms:
    http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html#SERVICE
I did not see anything that would allow you to download content more than once to one device (re-downlading to an associated device is allowed per these terms):
Association of Associated Devices is subject to the following terms:
You may auto-download iTunes Auto-Delivery Content or download previously-purchased iTunes Eligible Content from an Account on up to 10 Associated Devices, provided no more than 5 are iTunes-authorized computers.
(ii) An Associated Device can be associated with only one Account at any given time.
(iii) You may switch an Associated Device to a different Account only once every 90 days.
(iv) You may download previously-purchased free content onto an unlimited number of devices while it is free on the iTunes Service, but on no more than 5 iTunes-authorized computers.
An Apple TV is not an “Associated Device.” However, TV show iTunes Products may be played back on compatible Apple TVs, provided that you may only play back any such TV show on a limited number of Apple TVs at the same time.
I also did not see anything that would allow you to copy something you purchased to an external hard drive, although I might have missed that,
I'd suggest contacting iTunes support to get a definitive answer.

  • How often is TCP_DATAREADY generated?

    What I'm doing:
I'm working on adding a Wi-Fi module to a product that uses a small embedded micro-controller.
The micro operates as a TCP server communicating via Wi-Fi.
I've developed a LabWindows/CVI application to display the data that the micro collects.
In one mode of operation the micro delivers a continuous stream of 20 byte frames.
The frames are sent at 3200 Hz.
The LabWindows/CVI code connects to the micro as a client and then sends a command to start the 3200 Hz stream of frames.
In the TCP callback function (the one that is registered with the call to ConnectToTCPServer(...) )the TCP data is read and handed off to the rest of the application.
    The problem:
The TCP callback where it handles the TCP_DATAREADY case is not called often enough to keep up with
the stream of data.  ( I am calling ProcessSystemEvents() in the loop that waits for data)
    My questions:
How often can I expect to get a TCP_DATAREADY in the TCP callback?
How much buffering of the incoming TCP data is there?
In other words how long can my code be "away" from the callback before things get too backed up?
    One other thought:
Everything has been working well using a directly connected serial interface running at 2 mega-baud
to connect to the micro.  With the serial connection there is large buffer on the COM port so I have
a fairly long time before the code has to get back to process more incoming frames.  I'm trying to
emulate this same behavior with the TCP client-server setup.
Any ideas will be appreciated, thanks,
    Kirk

    Hi kirkm,
I was able to do a little digging and did find an available knowledgebase article on this particular flag. You can find it here
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/C5CC85D98C771FC78625768500565FAF
It appears the TCP_DATAREADY event of a callback still requires a call to ClientTCPRead. In that function you can specify your data buffer size. That could be one approach to making sure you get the data needed, by specifying your given buffer size.
Reading up on TCP Communication found at http://www.ni.com/white-paper/3067/en There is a section on how to react to the streaming nature of TCP. I will quote that section for reference:
"In TCP, because data is sent in a byte stream, it is not possible to know how many bytes are present in the data stream. Therefore, you cannot query the LabWindows/CVI TCP Support Library to get the amount of data available. When you call ServerTCPRead or ClientTCPRead, the library returns the number of bytes read into the data buffer. If the number of bytes read is the same as the data buffer size, then more data still might be present in the data stream. You can read the remaining data immediately by calling the read functions again or wait until the TCP callback is called again with the TCP_DATAREADY event. The LabWindows/CVI TCP Support Library calls the TCP callback with the TCP_DATAREADY event whenever events are processed and there is data in the TCP stream. Refer to the LabWindows/CVI samples\tcp\message.cws sample program for code that shows how to read all the data in the TCP stream whenever the TCP callback receives a TCP_DATAREADY event. The ServerTCPWrite and ClientTCPWrite functions return the number of bytes written to the TCP stream, which might be less than the number of bytes in your data buffer. You must check for this condition and make sure all the bytes in your data buffer are written out successfully. The following code, based on code in the samples\tcp\messagewriter.c sample file, demonstrates how to check for this condition."
Hopefully that will get things started.

  • AP proximity? (How close can your AP be to someone else's AP).

Tried doing some searches but cannot find anything...
If you are designing a WiFi system in a building that already has a system (independent to your new system), how much separation between APs should you have? ie. How close can/should you put your AP to an existing AP?
Sometimes because of the building layout you want to go at the same spot, but I know you need some separation. Assume omni, 100mW APs.
    Thanks.

You have some valid points. But every-man-and-his-dog has a 2.4 AP and it still works then it will most likely still work even if it's "every-man-and-his-dog +1".
Most importantly the system has to be designed correctly regardless of the existing networks. The better your system is designed to work solo, the better it will perform in an environment with other APs. Yes existing networks will obviously degrade your performance, but you can't really find anywhere in an modern urban environment without seeing a dozen APs from either inside and/or outside your building. The existing network could be dense but if it is not used all that much, the degradation should not be extreme.
Besides, you have say 100 users in the building, they can use system A (existing) or B (my new one). If they have the option of using both/either, then you have 50 on A and 50 on B. Is that much/any worse than having 100 on A? Contention is contention though the extra beacons will add to it. For the users that can only use "B", then they will at least have an option, even though it will be at a slower performance than if A did not exist, at least they have an wireless option now. If "A" did not exist, you could build your "B" network, and 1 week later, someone could build "A" anyway.
    1) Don't worry, it's not my money. Most of the existing "high density" areas are low usage private wlans. (P.S. What's the definition of "high density"?).
    2) RFID is not part of our application.
    3) & 5) This is being accounted for in our designs.
    4) If we use Cisco, then I hope it's significant. ;-)
    6) Gigabit.
    Good discussions.

  • How I can keep my MBP nice and speedy?

I finally jumped out of my Windows and into a Mac. I have used a Macbook at work for 3 years with very little trouble. I am an educator who lost my job right after I invested in a Macbook Pro and it seems to FREEZE UP frequently. I have seen the "spinning rainbow wheel of death" more times than I can recall. I have had the machine exactly 1 month.
Someone mentioned to me that it may be my Office 2008; the scripts don't seem to play nicely. I am at a loss. I invested in this because I wanted less drama than my "Dell from ****."
Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can keep my MBP nice and speedy?
Is there a limit to how many applications I should have on the dock?
Should I keep everything off of the desktop?
I am also a web developer and I have been using:
    adobe CS4 web suite.
    Captivate
    Second Life
    Firefox (With many plug-ins)
    MAMP Pro
    ITUNES
    Office 2008

I don't turn it off everyday.
    My system is as follows:
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro6,2
    Processor Name: Intel Core i5
    Processor Speed: 2.53 GHz

L2 Cache (per core): 256 KB
    L3 Cache: 3 MB

Maybe I can get some pointers to minimize this drama, so before I start screaming at Apple, I thought that I would check with my peers in this wonderful online community.
I am open to technical advice and personal philosophy.
Thank you for your help in advance!

Get Onyx. It has some automated scripts that keep your mac's performance really good.
Personally, I'd try using Onyx, if that doesn't help, just put your Ma OSX Install DVD inside, boot from it and install the OS again. All files and settings will be left intact (don't forget to update your system after installing it).
Make sure you have the latest Office version installed, as earlier versions are known to disable some system tasks, therefore making OSX unstable.
