How often does Adobe update DNG converter and/or Camera Raw to read files from new model cameras?

My PC operates with Windows 7. I now have PSE 11 with Camera Raw version 7.1.0.354 which will not open my new Panasonic LX7 cameras RW2 raw files.  I have tried to use DNG version 5.7.0.213 (the latest) to convert my RW2 files to DNG files but it won't recognize the RW2 files as even existing.  Can I expect Adobe to update either of these programs any time soon?  If not, any ideas?  Thanks
(This is my first question on any forum, so hope I have used the correct protocol.)

I believe the current Release Candidate (ACR 7.2 RC) supports your camera.  You can download it from the Adobe Labs site.
http://labs.adobe./downloads/cameraraw7-2.html
This is a Release Candidate, which means it is not completely checked out but Adobe would like users to use and report problems.  It will be released before the end of October as a production release.
I know this works with Photoshop CS6, but don't know about Photoshop Elements 11.

How often - How quickly,  does Verizon update it's DNS servers?
The reason that I must ask is that I have just changed wevhosts and cannot connect to my new host.
It has been over one hour now and I am dead in the water because I cannot connect!!!
Yes, before you reply  -  I have checked using network-tools.com  and my site is in public dns

How long should I wait before looking at alternative DNS?
I am on the North Shore of Massachusetts - the delay is unbearable.

    Nice, real nice............

"yeah, you can go ahead and do that"
    It's a combination of things.
First it depends how fast your hosting isp issues a DNS push to send out your new address and then it's dependant on how fast the push trickles through all the dns servers in the world.  I believe if you check with your hosting isp they will say it can take up to 24 hours to propogate around everywhere.  You could use one of your hosting isp's dns servers as your primary dns server and then you should see the chnages virtually immediately, however that could slow down other access slightly as it might be slower to reach than a near at hand verizon server.

  • Leica RAW: Adobe updates DNG converter to migrate all cameras to one format

    Hi All,
I saw that adobe has update their DNG converter to convert all camera RAW files to a universal RAW format and hoped that this would finally allow me to import my Leica DMR files into Aperture. I tried all possible methods with the new converter and none worked for my Leica DNG files. Sigh!
The wierd thing is that on the import screen I could see all the files and scale the thumbnails, which I couldn't do before * Even when I didn't embed a thumbnail in the converted DNG * but when the files were imported I got the red screen a non compatible file format message.
What's up with that and when will Apple provide support for even just the universal DNG format?
    Eric

    Hi Eric,
there is no "universal DNG format". DNG is not a "super JPG" format. It's more or less a wrapper around the (compressed) Raw file. A program that can read DNG (such as Photoshop CS) will not necessarily understand what's in that file if it doesn't know the camera's Raw format.
If we're lucky, we'll see more camera makers support DNG directly, and then the situation may much improve.

  • How often does macbook update their products?

I know this might be a silly and some of you may be thinking "I have no clue!", but I was wondering how often mac seems to be updating their products. Since I am seriously considering a mackbook, since reading all of your wonderful reviews to my previous post, I am thinking if I should wait on the macbook until Christmas comes along in case a new product(s) emerges? If ya'll could please leave some feedback that would be great!Ya'll have been a wonderful help!

I asked a similar question not long ago. Turns out you cannot speculate about future Apple products on this forum; against terms of use. If you would like to ask such questions, a good forum to join is appleinsider(dot)com or macrumors(dot)com.

  • Even with the dng converter I can´t open my nef´s from new nikon D610 to use in LR4...any suggestions?

I found out that LR4 does not support the Nikon D610 files. Downloaded the DNG Converter, but still i can not choose the nef´s (grey shaded and no chance to click/select them...please help.Thank you in advance, Christoph

Please supply additional info about the procedures you are following.
Be aware that the DNG Converter is a standalone program that does not work through Lightroom. Its primary function is the conversion of raw files from supported camera models. Use the latest version which is version 8.7.
You will need to open the program and first select a folder / sub-folder that contains the files you wish to convert and proceed from there. see the screen capture.

  • Quick Question - how often does a device check-in to see if it needs an iOS update?

simple question which i cant get an answer from Apple or the Normal discussion forums, so thought i woudl try the developer forums.
how often does a device check-in to see if it needs an iOS update?
and if its perodically (something like 7 days) would that explain why on two devices - one would show as the latest update being 7.0.4 and one shows 7.0.6?

    How ddid you ask Apple?
This information is probably simply not disclosed.

  • How often does Cisco release signature updates?

Hi, i would like to know how often does Cisco release updates for the Signature engine for the IPS appliances? I was not sure to make the auto update from Cisco.com to be every-day, every-hour or once a week?
Also can you advise me of the recommended setting for Bypass feature for the interfaces?

Since the auto-update checks go out the management interface it maybe better to have it set for every hour. That way you wont have delays in the critical updates. Assuming you are in inline traffic mode, setting the bypass to "auto" is the recommended setting for interfaces. That is also the default.

  • CS4 will not open NEF files. I installed DNG converter and it did not help.

CS4 will not open NEF files. I installed DNG converter and it did not help. Also, I tried to just "update" photoshop and it did not work. It is a new camera (Nikon 1).

Yes, you need CS6. DNG Converter is just a standalone tool to convert RAW to DNG files which then may be possible to open in older versions of Adobe tools.

  • File size difference between DNG Converter and Lightroom Beta 4

    Hi,
I want to go the all-DNG route and am trying several things ATM. I want my files to be as small as possible, thus I disable previews and RAW embedding and enable compression in DNG Converter. In Lightroom, there are no options at all. What I do get, are pretty amazing file size differences:
Original .NEF as it came from my D70s: ~5MB
.DNG created by DNG Converter: ~1MB
    .DNG created by Lightroom: ~4MB
The very small file size in DNG Converter is the one that bother's me most. I get these small files from time to time. I checked both the DNG and the NEF in Photoshop, and they seem to be identical. So my question is: What triggers these small file sizes? Do I loose anything? Or is the Lightroom DNG converter not as advanced as the stand alone version?
Maybe this helps: I get the ridicolous small files for very dull subjects that tell the computer scientist in me that it should be easily compressable by common compression algorithms.
    Thanks for any pointers,
    Markus

Thanks for the hint! It did make me revisit those files and now I see the reason for the small file sizes: The Apple Finder does note update the file size view once a file was added to a folder. Here's what I did:
Opened a folder full of .NEFs in detail view in Finder.
    Converted them using DNG Converter
Looked at the sizes of the files as they were shown in the Finder window allready open.
Unfortunately, those file sizes are not correct. If I open a new Finder window of the same folder, file sizes are correctly reported as between 3.5 and 5 MB.

  • How often is content updated

    Hi all,
just a quick question. Have been using BT Vision now for almost 2 months, and notice that my content has hardly changed at all, especially for kids programmes. Its the same shows and episodes as when I first joined.
Does anyone know how often content is updated. Kids are already complaining that they have seen everything worthwhile and that shows do not appear to be updated.
Feeling seriously misinformed about the BT Vision service, and just waiting for contract to run out so can move back to SKY.
Anyone any thoughts, or ideas about when content is likely to be refreshed?
    Thanks

"In my experience programmes are hardly ever updated with NEW content, it's the same recycled trash that comes and goes in a stuck update loop..."
There are never any repeats on Sky are there?  I mean their pay channels like GOLD and Comedy Central haven't been repeating the same episodes of Open All Hours and M.A.S.H. for the last 10 years.
There is always new stuff on BT.  For example, in the last couple of weeks I have seen Pawn Stars series 2, Russias Toughest Prisons and the film 2012.  All of those were made or first shown anywhere in the last 6 months and are entirely new to BT.
Those are just 3 examples I have watched recently, there is tons of new stuff.

  • Lightroom, dng converter and D750! Help!

I have recently purchased a d750 and i then realised i couldn't use raw in lightroom I have read many articles and tried my best to fix this issue and I'm at my wits end!
I use lightroom 5 and have a macbook pro, i recently downloaded the dng converter 8.7 and when i try to import an image is won't let me select it at all to convert  i don't know what I'm doing wrong but i need this fixed ASAP as i have photo shoots coming up!

After installing the DNG Converter you can run/open it and use it to convert a FOLDER of raw (NEF) images to DNGs and can import those DNGs into an older LR.
There are usually one or two things that cause issues for people who are new to the DNG Converter and/or have a new Nikon camera:
    1)      The DNG Converter works on a FOLDER not an individually-specified image, so when you are telling it where the folder it, you should single-click on the folder to select it, not double-click to open the folder.  Every other piece of software, including ACR, will allow selecting a folder by opening it but the DNGC won’t, you have to just single-click to highlight the folder name.
    2)      If you have touched (transferred, viewed) your new Nikon camera images with any older Nikon software (Nikon Transfer, View NX), like came with your previous camera, then the images are corrupted by using that obsolete software so Adobe says they are an invalid format.  Try copying the NEFs with your OS tools, like Finder or Explorer, and then see if they were in the DNG Converter.  If it is important to uncorrupt the few images you’ve taken, then you can use a utility from here:

  • Why does Adobe update the Creative Cloud?

Why does Adobe update the Creative Cloud and not to software I purchased to the same level?

    Kurt Lang wrote:
See also: FASB revenue recognition GAAP
To the best of my recollection, that is what the Adobe rep mentioned. If you look up that phrase, the top return in Google is a PDF file explaining how it works. Good luck understanding it even if you're a CPA.
John Waller has added another link on that revenue law.
To be clear, the accounting issue called GAAP for revenue recognition states that the way Adobe counts R&D and development costs are applied to a specific product version for that version's lifetime. So, all of the Photoshop CS6 perpetual license development cost are applied against the revenue produced by that specific version. Adobe is allowed to add bug fixes and maintenance updates, but no new features for the life of that version. And, yes, this sucks for several reasons not the least of which is that the engineers are forced to try to shove as much new stuff into the most recent version and any updates that can be done prior to the end of the quarter in which a version ships because after that date, new features can't be added.
Generally accepted accounting procedures pretty much force Adobe into this accounting. Yes, there are other accounting methods that would mitigate this, and the subscription license is one such option. Since the subscription revenue os an ongoing stream, Adobe can add new features as functionality to subscription users. Unfortunately, the users of a perperual license can not get those new features and functionality, only new bug fixes.
The bottom line is that sucscription users get the added advantage of getting new features and functionality while perperual license users do not. Yep...kinda sucks, but it is, what it is and it's not really Adobe's fault...the accounting regulations I believe actually came into enforcement because of the whole Enron scandle...
I realize this sort of explanation is akin to talking about sausage making...nobody really want to know how sausage is made, they just want to eat it. Same deal with Photoshop users...nobody really want to know how Adobe has to do their accounting, but the realities dictate what Adobe can and can't do...
BTW, this all has zero to do with state sales tax...although there my be state to state differences on whether a state charges tax for software. But that has zero to do with Photoshop development.

  • How often are Ovimaps updated

While driving recently the road I was on disappeared on my Ovimaps screen. I checked it out after the trip. I had been driving on a section of motorway that had been opened in June 2010.
I had a look at the map on the Ovimaps website, and the entire section of motorway does appear on the website map though it does not appear on maps installed on my phone. My phone says that I have the most recent version of the maps installed and there is no update.
So the question is how often do Ovimaps update their downloads to include new or recent changes to road systems? It seems a bit odd to me that a major motoryway opened a year ago has not been included in an update.
    Curious

I have problems with Denmark on a stretch of motorway that's being expanded from two lanes into three. This means it gets rerouted by tens of metres from time to time and drivers suddenly get the Route recalculation msg. Fine if you're used to the place, but the lanes run in between metre-high concrete barriers in places and the exits are not always well marked.
In my rural area two towns are correctly named in the v. 1.02 Nokia Map I have on my old E61i, bought in 2007, whereas in Ovi Maps v. 3.04 10wk32b03MW on my current phone, one has been given the name of the municipality that ceased to exist when three were merged in to one on 1 Jan. 2007 are the other bears the name of the new municipality instead of the name it's had since the Middle Ages. The online PC maps are half right. I've informed Nokia and Navteq.
Performing the map refresh has no effect.
The online map appears to be down at the moment so maybe they're doing some fixes?

You need camera raw 8.4 for your camera, if it’s Digital Rebel T5 EOS 1200D EOS Kiss X70. It is not compatible with PSE11; so it’s a bit odd if that software was bundled with the camera except that it will work with jpegs. I suggest you download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your CR2 files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the DNG files will editable in PSE11(keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.4
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:
