How often does my Curve 9300 check for new email messages?

Hello everyone,
I hope that you are all well.
I use a Curve 9300 (3G) and assumed that it checked for and retrieved new emails all of the time. However, it seems that it only retreives new messages from my email account every so often. Could someone please let me know how often it checks for new emails?
Also, when I run a Diagnostic Test in the Mobile Network Options menu the result says NO when it tests to see if it is connected to my email account. When I ran tests a while ago the result was YES. Could someone please let me know if this is anything to worry about?
Many thanks.

First, you have a misunderstanding that the handheld device "checks" for messages. They don't.
RIM's technology on which the company and popularity was built is that RIM servers go out to your email server and checks for new mail and "pushes" those messages to your handheld BlackBerry.
On a normal POP3 email server, that occurs every 15 minutes and if new messages are found they are pushed and the RIM server checks again in 2 minutes for a few cycles, and after 3-4 cycles of two minute checks, if no new messages are found, it reverts to 15 minutes.
On an IMAP email server, the push is instant. An example of this might gmail accounts, yahoo mail, and private domains hosted by GoDaddy.

  • Email program not automatically checking for new email

I just figured out why I'm not getting new mail notification in the Droid email program with my Yahoo email. It seems that the email program does not automatically check for new email. I have to manually open the app and then new emails are downloaded. I have the email settings set up as "data push" checked and "fetch schedule" is at 15 minutes. Is there something else I should be doing?

    this may help you...
The way you have it set up should work fine. The stock android email app (for other than gmail) does not push as soon as you get an email, it has to actually "check" your email for you and you set how often it does that. There is afairly new yahoo app in the market (go to market and search for yahoo) that supposedly pushes to your phone when you get an email. I haven't used it, but if you need your email right when you get it, it might be worth a shot.
this was found on the page before yours. anyway i had the droid in january and it had the email deletion bug. so after i lost emails, i traded to the storm 2. it sounds like the droid x is better in that area so i'm waiting for mine to be delivreed.
But as a tip if you lose youe emails randomly.
when i did i called vzw and they didnt know what was going on, but when they sent me an email i scrolled to the bottom of the list then when i scrolled up it would be gone. or gone the next day etc. so, i logged into gmail and we tried again. THEN IN REAL TIME WHILE LOOKING AT GMAIL INBOX ON LAPTOP and the droid, vzw sent another email, i scrolled to the bottom of the laptop gmail inbox and scrolled back up and it too was gone..not in trash/junk either then a second later it disappeared from the droid.
HOWEVER, I HAD OUTLOOK 2003 STUDENT TEACHER EDITION ON WIN XP SP/2 at the time and outlook WAS ABLE TO RETREIVE ALL THOSE EMAILS THAT DISAPPEARED FROM GMAIL AND THE DROID after i would manually send and receive email in outlook. that tells me that the droid email glitch is not deleting all those emails...just "cloaking" them but they are stil there on gmail but only way i could get them was via outlook once a week as i am atruck driver and i cannot get online often. thats why i went to the storm 2..till the Droid X.
As a side note, if i got an email on the storm 1 and 2 i would get it no later than 2 through 5 seconds after sender pressed send. My droid i had in january, took about 8-10 seconds average and 20-27 seconds when it was not cranky and deleting...errr cloaking my emails. also you may wany to see if your incoming yahoo mail settings are for imap vs. POP3... i hear Imap is better setting and see if yahoo has that as well
i hope Droid X is better. from what i hear, not as many email deletion bug issues here...just sync setttings and delayed email notifications.

Oh, the irony of referring to yourself as "myklthebrain".  Make an appointment, at the nearest Apple store, with an Apple Genius, and hope that (s)he can sort it out.

  • Checking for new email deletes all previous messages from iphone 3g

After receiving any email, the device is removing all email from all local folders. The remove setting is set to 'never', 'ask before deleting' is set to 'on' and it is set to show 75 messages. There is nothing in the trash, sent, or main inbox.
I can see a test email for about 5 minutes. if I resynch or turn the device off, and and then check for new email, the old email is removed. No trace of it anywhere.
It didn't do this originally. It just started in the last few days.
    Thanks.

I suggest deleting and recreating the account.

  • Does my iMac check for new Mail messages while asleep?

The Energy Saver settings on my iMac are to sleep the display after 15 mins. and the computer after 20 mins. and I do check "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep whenever possible."
    Two questions:
    1. *Is permitting my hard disks to sleep helpful or harmful to my iMac in the long run?* I care less about energy costs than the long-term health of my computer. So what's worse: spinning the hard disks down (causing wear and tear) or constantly exerting the disks by never letting them rest?
    2. This is the key question for me at this moment: *while asleep, does my iMac retrieve new email messages?* This is an issue because I have a number of Rules I've setup within Mail on my iMac that move messages to certain folders. So if the iMac is asleep while I'm out and about, these messages clog up the inbox on my iPhone's Mail app until I come home and wake the computer (I have a gmail IMAP account). Also, does checking the option to put the hard disk to sleep affect my iMac's behavior in retrieving email while the machine is asleep?
    I'd appreciate any clarification.
    Grant

    1) There are lots of arguments about all kinds of esoteric questions and whether you should spin down the drive or not sounds like a good candidate. Drives do die of course, but in the greater scheme of things you and I are more likely to either replace the drive for something larger or replace the computer before that drive dies.
    2) If your computer is asleep it cannot check for mail or do anything else for that matter. End of story. Assuming you have broadband, when you restart/wake your computer it may appear that mail has been accessed while the computer was asleep but that's because your mail application probably checks as soon as the computer was awakened/restarted.

  • As of yesterday 3/1/2015 T'bird stopped reading mail rationally on ONE of my two Windows 7 PC's and when aksed to check for new email retrieves the SAME message

no matter how many times I ask T'bird to check for new mail I get back ANOTHER copy of the same message dated 7:28am and NO MAIL received after that reaches my INBOX. On my other PC running Windows 7 only ONE copy of the 7:28am transmission arrives as does all subsequent email sent to me at this address... both PC's are protected by Avast anti-virus software. Turning the rogue PC off and on did not help nor did uploading and installing an updated version of T'bird.

Are the setup the same? same accounts, same folders, same messages, same filters same add-ons?
If that the case make a copy of the good profile and replace the bad one with that.

  • Email checks for new email, but does not update

I have 2 Yahoo email accounts.  Both are on my iPhone.  One works properly, the other does not.  I also have a MSN account on the iPhone that also works correctly.
    1) When I open my email for the problematic Yahoo account, I get the message "checking for mail", & then it says updated as of a few days ago and no new email is displayed.  I KNOW I have new email (by checking on my PC), but it does not appear on the iPhone.
    2) I can send email to this account from the account.  It appears in Sent, but NOT in Inbox
    3) I deleted the account & then added it back, but that does not help. I rebooted after each step (i.e. after deleting the account, and after adding it back in)
    4) I checked the settings for the Yahoo account that doesn't work, and they are the same as for the Yahoo account that does work.
    5) The account works properly on my iPad & my wife's iPhone 4
I have not yet tried tearing my hair out, to see if that helps, but I'm hoping something less drastic will work.
    I have an iPhone 5s, iOS 8.1.3

I'm having this problem as well. It seems like it was a more recent firefox update. I temporary solved this by deleting my sqlite keyfile as described in another post I found in a different forum, but it's since reoccured.
After I restart my system and run firefox, it's like it's running right after an update, or an install. None of my settings are saved, and password and cookies don't appear to be loaded either.
Is there any debug information I can provide?
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and Firefox 3.6.13.
Oddly if I close and restart Firefox it's fine. It's only after a Windows restart that I see an issue. Disk check runs clean. I've also deleted my profile directory and had FF recreate it. Still having issues though.

  • How can I set iTunes to check for new podcasts at a specific time of day?

    Hi guys,
Anybody know a work around for this? I thought it was just a matter of clicking the refresh button at the time I want iTunes to look for new podcasts, but it doesn't seem to be the case...
I want iTunes to look for new podcasts at 2 am every day. So, at 2 am, I clicked the refresh button in the Podcasts section in iTunes. It would then say, in the settings, that iTunes last checked for podcasts at 2 am and will look again at 2 am the next day. Awesome, not. Every single time I try this, iTunes always resets itself and decides to look for podcasts at 2:49 pm. I can't work it out.
So, if anyone has a solution, I would love to hear it! I'm on the latest version. 9.0.2. Thanks for reading.
    Regards,
    Daniel

I'm looking for the solution to this issue too. Once or twice, a full system restart has seemed to solve the problem temporarily but it slips back to an afternoon refresh after a few days.
Seems like it would be simple for Apple to allow us to specify a time of day for refreshes in the preferences section.

  • Iphone running 2.1 does not check for new email in the background

    hi
my iphone does not get new email unless i open the mail app.
it worked perfectly previous to now.
this has been the case for a few weeks. i have asked several friends, who tell me that they have the same issue after upgrading.
any solution? i use mail for work, and count on that ding in my pocket.
    thanks

A lot of people count on that ding. See this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1708956&tstart=0
Still no solution and nothing from Apple about it.

  • How to set up a visual "alert" for new emails received on the Iphone 4s

Finally converted from a blackberry to iphone 4s.  i have numerous email addresses.  On my old B berry, a red star would appear on each of my email addresses.  This notified me that there was a new message in my inbox for each particular address.  This was helpful since I didn't have to waste time opening each inbox to see if there were any new messages.
I have checked everywhere in the settings on the Iphone (even my kids can't find it).  When i'm in the Mailbox screen and looking at about 10 email addresses, it would help to have a check mark, bold lettering or something to indicate when a new email is received to a particular address.  If the BB had it, the Iphone should have it.  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

I'm not sure exactly what you are saying here. Are you saying you do not like checking the All Inboxes? Once you go to the Mail app, you get a list of each one of the individual account mailboxes with included numbers for the amount of new mail you have for each account, unless you have something not set up correctly. Each time mail comes in for an individual account you get notified, it is just that the badge will not say 1 for this account, 3 for that account for example. If you received the mail I use for the example, you get a 4 in the All Inboxes, and then the individual numbers for each accounts inbox. Does that answer your question/concern?

  • Why does it take so long for new emails to arrive on my iPhone 6

I have an iMac, two iPads, and a new iPhone 6. I believe that the mail application is set up the same on them all. New emails arrive on the iMac and the iPad at virtually the same time. But the iPhone may not get the message for many minutes.
We are talking about a gmail account.
Why? Is there something I can change/tweak to fix this?

    Interesting...
the iPad setting don't match the iPhone settings.
the main settings are push, but on the iPad each individual account has push, fetch and manual as options. But the iPhone only has fetch and manual.

    Hello Barry
Thanks for your reply, it did the trick, in a weird sort of way:
After deleting the mail preference file as you suggested, I could check for new mail messages without Mail.app crashing all over the place.
However all my accounts and the messages in them was gone. Okay, one problem solved and new one created.
Solution: Reinstalling my wifes and my own mail accounts and reimporting all the messages from the backup. Sounds boring right?
So I threw caution to the wind and replaced the new preference file with the old one that I had kept in the (disabled) folder. Thinking that it was an easily reversible step.
And it ruddy worked! Now I can again check for new mail messages and I have the old mail accounts intact. The logic of this however escapes me.
The morale: Its a weird world sometimes;-)
Thanks again for your help, it is much appreciated.
    cheers Nikolaj

  • Treo 700wx Mobile 6 Mail check for new mail

I just installed Treo 700wx Updated 1.24 udate to Mobile 6 and now the email software searches (looking for changes) through all of my 16,000 emails.
I did set to only download last 3 days in the mail setup screen but it searches through all 16,000 emails slowing down my Treo and using up battery. I could not find where I can set it to only search last 3 days for new email messages.
Post relates to: Treo 700wx (Verizon)

    Vibha,
Since your question is more dependent on the Messaging server, the "Messaging & Collaboration" section would be a better place to pose this question.
A simple way to analyse which IMAP command we are sending to the iMS - you can initiate a snoop capturing
the traffic between the Portal server and the iMS on the specific port (143 default for IMAP) during the desktop rendering.
To my knowledge iMS is fully IMAP 4 compliant and hence the RECENT flag implementation will be adherent to the RFC specifications.
You can perform the same check by logging into the iMS through command line.
