How often LAP in L3 LWAPP mode performs a broadcast LWAPP DISCOVERY?

How often LAP in L3 LWAPP mode performs a broadcast DICOVERY UDP port 12223?
During the boot or even during its regular operation?
I saw that the AP is running the broadcast or to be more precise to arrives WLC LWAPP DISCOVERY REQUEST only
when booting the AP.
It is correct?
Regards.
Mirko Severi.

Dan,
in this case, the AP does not generate a broadcast, but only a unicast to the primary controller with the IP found in NVRAM.
In a network L3 must enable broadcast via helper-address when the AP does not have WLC primary, secondary, tertiary configured, because otherwise you must configure in the AP through the console, option 53 or DNS the Ip address of the controllers.
Is correct?

How often should one need to repair permissions?
It seems that I need to do so too frequently in order to repair sluggish or erratic performance.
    Adam

Permissions shouldn't have to be repaired unless there is a permissions problem. Are you getting permissions messages when you open files/apps?
Slow, erratic behavior doesn't sound like a permissions problem. I'm not sure why RP is helping this.
How much RAM do you have installed?
How often and after how long does this happen?
Please post your Console > system.log from around the time of the last slowdown/permissions repair. Maybe we can find something there. Depending on how often this happens, you may be able to test it bystarting up in Safe Mode  (It will take more time to startup because it runs a directory check.)
If your system functions correctly that way, go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items and remove them. Boot normally and test. If not go to/Users/yourname/Library/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, try moving/Users/yourname/Library/Fonts to your desktop.

  • Achivelog Mode Performance

    Hi to all
    My Production DB Specs
    Oracle 11g Enterprise Edition (11.2.0.3)
Windows Server 2012 Standard (64 bit)
    HP ProLiant DL360p Gen8
    Processors Intel Xeon CPU E5-2620 0 @2GHz
    16GB RAM
    Total disk space 745GB
    Database size 74GB
I would like to enable the Archivelog mode in my db. I understand the importance of having archive logs. However as the nature of every db is different, my concern is:
1] What are those configurations that I need to test first BEFORE implementing archivelog mode? (redo log settings, transactions used per day etc.?)
2] How can I reduce the impact on my running production database performance as much as possible, when I implement archivelog mode?
3] What are the things that I need to check and monitor AFTER implementing archivelog mode? (for example, Archivelog disk spaces?)
Thank you for sharing with me your precious experiences.

Before turning on archivelog you need to :-
    - check what volume of log you write each day, and if there are peak periods (batches etc)
    - check for log switch interval and consider if the log size is optimal
    - define what your archivelog backup and delete policy will be (now long to keep on disk, how often to backup, how many backups to take before deleting)
    - write and test your backup / delete scripts (rman ?)
    - check that you have sufficient disk to handle unexpected events
    - check that you have monitoring enabled to detect disk filling up
    - consider using FRA instead of archiving to a directory
    - consider whether to archive locally, or to a remote server or NFS share
    - check for objects or transactions with nologging (select force_logging from v$database)
    - consider if you will duplex archivelogs or not
    - consider how many archiver processes you will need (log_archive_max_processes)
    - consider what you want to happen if archival fails (log_archive_min_succeed_dest)
The ARCH processes only copy files, so impact on performance can easily be simulated, and will depend on the volume of files being copied, and number of parallel copies.
Archivelogs are useless unless you have a database backup, so you need to include that in your scripting and testing, along with restore tests.

  • How often should I charge my new macbook pro with retina display?

hi everybody! I just got my macbook today and I want to take good care of it so it lasts me a while, and I'm particularly concerned about the battery life. what ensures that I can maintain a battery that will drain the slowest? or in other words, what are healthy charging habits? I'm a student so I'll be using it more than  a few hours daily. should I turn off my macbook or set it to sleep when I'm going to sleep for the night (~6 hours). is there ever a time when sleep is preferable to shut down? when I'm using it for an extended period of time, is it better to run it down and charge it or to leave it charging at 100%? how often should I run down the battery, or if not, what level should I run it down to before charging it again? I read somewhere that it's best to charge it to 80% instead of 100%, is there any truth to this? any input is appreciated, thanks.

  • How often is email checked?

I have an E6 and I periodically send test emails.  I noticed that sometimes I receive my test emails instantly.
Other times I receive them after a good while.
On past phones I was able to set how often to check email, but on my E6 for some reason I cant.
    Can anyone explain the inconsistency?

    Hi there!
I noticed on my E6 that "Soonest" means the phone is in sync all the time. You can see a green circule appear at the left top corner of e-mail app. It should send/receive directly (push mail). It works good, didn't notice any disturbances.
I wouldn't recommend to choose that option otherwise you're really in need of that because it will draw your battery down. My recommendation is 30 minutes max to 1 hour in comparison with usability and energy saving.
By the way, you should check at your home screen options menu if your widgets are at "On-line" mode. It's omportant too if you want your mails displayed soonest.

  • How often is TCP_DATAREADY generated?

    What I'm doing:
I'm working on adding a Wi-Fi module to a product that uses a small embedded micro-controller.
The micro operates as a TCP server communicating via Wi-Fi.
I've developed a LabWindows/CVI application to display the data that the micro collects.
In one mode of operation the micro delivers a continuous stream of 20 byte frames.
The frames are sent at 3200 Hz.
The LabWindows/CVI code connects to the micro as a client and then sends a command to start the 3200 Hz stream of frames.
In the TCP callback function (the one that is registered with the call to ConnectToTCPServer(...) )the TCP data is read and handed off to the rest of the application.
    The problem:
The TCP callback where it handles the TCP_DATAREADY case is not called often enough to keep up with
the stream of data.  ( I am calling ProcessSystemEvents() in the loop that waits for data)
    My questions:
How often can I expect to get a TCP_DATAREADY in the TCP callback?
How much buffering of the incoming TCP data is there?
In other words how long can my code be "away" from the callback before things get too backed up?
    One other thought:
Everything has been working well using a directly connected serial interface running at 2 mega-baud
to connect to the micro.  With the serial connection there is large buffer on the COM port so I have
a fairly long time before the code has to get back to process more incoming frames.  I'm trying to
emulate this same behavior with the TCP client-server setup.
Any ideas will be appreciated, thanks,
    Kirk

    Hi kirkm,
I was able to do a little digging and did find an available knowledgebase article on this particular flag. You can find it here
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/C5CC85D98C771FC78625768500565FAF
It appears the TCP_DATAREADY event of a callback still requires a call to ClientTCPRead. In that function you can specify your data buffer size. That could be one approach to making sure you get the data needed, by specifying your given buffer size.
Reading up on TCP Communication found at http://www.ni.com/white-paper/3067/en There is a section on how to react to the streaming nature of TCP. I will quote that section for reference:
"In TCP, because data is sent in a byte stream, it is not possible to know how many bytes are present in the data stream. Therefore, you cannot query the LabWindows/CVI TCP Support Library to get the amount of data available. When you call ServerTCPRead or ClientTCPRead, the library returns the number of bytes read into the data buffer. If the number of bytes read is the same as the data buffer size, then more data still might be present in the data stream. You can read the remaining data immediately by calling the read functions again or wait until the TCP callback is called again with the TCP_DATAREADY event. The LabWindows/CVI TCP Support Library calls the TCP callback with the TCP_DATAREADY event whenever events are processed and there is data in the TCP stream. Refer to the LabWindows/CVI samples\tcp\message.cws sample program for code that shows how to read all the data in the TCP stream whenever the TCP callback receives a TCP_DATAREADY event. The ServerTCPWrite and ClientTCPWrite functions return the number of bytes written to the TCP stream, which might be less than the number of bytes in your data buffer. You must check for this condition and make sure all the bytes in your data buffer are written out successfully. The following code, based on code in the samples\tcp\messagewriter.c sample file, demonstrates how to check for this condition."
Hopefully that will get things started.

  • How often does Cisco release signature updates?

Hi, i would like to know how often does Cisco release updates for the Signature engine for the IPS appliances? I was not sure to make the auto update from Cisco.com to be every-day, every-hour or once a week?
Also can you advise me of the recommended setting for Bypass feature for the interfaces?

Since the auto-update checks go out the management interface it maybe better to have it set for every hour. That way you wont have delays in the critical updates. Assuming you are in inline traffic mode, setting the bypass to "auto" is the recommended setting for interfaces. That is also the default.

  • Reinstalling OS: How often?

    Hi.
I've had my iMac for about six months now.
I've been having some kernel panics for a few months. Mostly when the computer comes out of sleep mode. Nothing serious. Just annoying. And only every few weeks.
Apple had be clean some cache files and empty some folders on a few calls.
    That hasn't helped any.
I was then told to reinstall 10.8.3 on top of itself.
I did so and now my computer seems to run FASTER than it ever has.
It reminds me of when I used to reinstall Windows on top of itself.
So. Is this EVER a bad thing to do? And if it speeds things up how often should one consider reinstalling?
Would love some expert advice. I'm new to Mac.
    Don

As Ralph Landry said there is no guidelines to reinstalling. Ideally you should not have to ever reinstall the OS but this is not a perfect world and things do happen. I work at a school where we have thousands of Macs, we reinstall the OS on the majority of them every summer. We this for many reasons, one is to clear out any users that will not need the machine any more (Not really your case), and two to make sure that the computer has a clean slate to start the new year. I personally only reinstall the OS when I notice certain things like kernel panics or if I keep getting the beach ball of death. It is best to try to figure out why the computer is going slow to help prevent it from happening again but sometimes that is just not possible.

  • How often should you do the maintenace cron scripts??

    Hi all,
As the subject suggests, I just like to know how often should you run those maintenace cron scripts???
    thanks...

    * I don't know if this is the place for this question, if not, then I am sorry. *

    macuserguy,
You may find Dr. Smoke's excellent FAQ about Running the Mac OS X maintenance scripts helpful.
The FAQ suggests approximately weekly basis (especially if your Mac is shutdown or in sleep mode overnight) though perhaps more frequently if you have a smaller HD as these log files can take up alot of room.
    Hope that helps some,

  • How often reset Apple tv-2?

Have had ATV-2 for about a week and all's well for the most part. But I found yesterday that my photo streaming from my iMac was very sluggish. Thought it was my network, but I decided to do a Reset on the ATV. That fixed the problem. I use a Time Capsule (500G) for my router.
Question: Under what circumstances and how often do y'all find you need to do a Reset?
    Thanks,

The only time I've ever had to perform an unscheduled reset my Apple TV 2, was to enable netflix for the first time.

Do you have a set of procedures in place in case the latest upgrades mess things up?

My opinion of WP is that it's intended for users that don't know much, if not anything about dynamic web development and just want to slap something together quickly and call it a website. The open source community is a open door for poor coding mods that require frequent updates to update the security because of vulerabilities. It's not a problem if you know of the problems that can occur. Be prepared for continuous, undocumented upgrades and countless hours working around the system to have a site that not only looks anf functions how you'd like it to, but is also secure. Fortunately I know php so I don't rely on limited solutions like wordpress for the professional sites I develop. Have fun with wordpress, but don't give up your day job.

The answer depends on your version of Oracle, the data, and its DML pattern. As pointed out by Santosh, with 10g and up Oracle provides a scheduler task that automatically collects the CBO statistics.
Keep in mind that for some tables as a result of the nature of the data and the DML pattern the default statistics gathering parameters may not work well and you may need to take manual control of the statistics gathering for that table.
