How often recharge battery

How often should battery be recharged for best use

You are advised to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging to 100% then running it completely down) : http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipad.html
Personally I usually run mine down so that it powers off - otherwise I just top it up if I need the extra run-time (e.g. prior to travelling).

  • How to recharge battery on I book G4

Was recently given an old I Book G4. No idea if it works yet. I took the battery out and I want to charge it. Do I need a special charger and can I get one? This laptop hasn't been used in a long time.

The battery is probably dead and may not charge. You can get a charger at a good price through Amazon. The ones that are listed for the iBook G4 and PowerBook G4 are the correct ones.

  • How to recharge battery?

    Retire Engineer,
Follow up to thread --- "battery acting up?"
Can I use the computer while simultaneously charging the battery, or is it better to power off the computer when charging it?

You can use the computer while charging the battery. It will take longer than it would if the computer was off but otherwise it's not a problem.

Charge the backup battery for more than 8 hours by connecting the ac adapter.
ok sounds good, but i cant figure out how to properly charge it,
do i need to put the normal battery pack out and then attach it to the AC adapter, or not?
Does the laptop need to be running or will it be charged also turned off?
i would really appreciate if u could help me out and tell me the proper way to recharge!!
    thanks already,
    cheers,

    Hello and welcome,
I didn't know that the backup battery was rechargeable.  I don't think it is.  You might be better off to just replace it.
The  Hardware Maintenance Manual page 80 shows how to access it.  According to the System Service Parts T410, the FRU number is 02K7078.  They should be easy to find and inexpensive.

  • Ballpark: What is expected "normal" range for how often have to charge 4s?

My new iPhone 4s is needing to be charged more than once a day with moderate usage... is this "normal"?   I know it is not an exact science and depends on many factors such as what the phone is doing and various settings, etc., but in general / ballpark: What is the expected "normal" range for how often one would expect to have to charge the 4s?  Thanks in advance for any help/insight...

    Hi there thamwiggin,

  • How often should I charge MBP Retina 13 (mid 2014)?

    Hi,
I didn't find an accurate answer for this question over the Internet, so I think I need a specialist opinion. As all we know, MBP batteries are not easy removeable, thus we should care about them more. I work on MBP for whole days, thus sometimes I need to charge it even twice a day. Charging once a day is a standard for me.
My ordinary (daily) charging looks like that:
    (I have fully charged MBP)
    1. I work until the battery level decreases until about 8%.
    2. I charge it to 100% and unplug it from the power source.
And I do this every day. Should change my charging customs and use a power supply instead more often (if yes, how often?) or not. I know how to care about the battery, about fully charge and discharge once a double week. Usually when working on a non-Mac notebook and I just removed the battery and used the power supply for whole day. Now it's obviously not possible becauses of loosing power cycles.
    Please answer and thank you.

As Esquared said, it is not good to drain your battery down to 8%. You will wear it out quicker that way.
Leaving the charger plugged in permanently is not a good idea either. The 95% to 100% you mention is when you leave the charger plugged in and it will drop about 1 percentage point a day even when the computer is shut down until it reaches 95% and then start recharging up to 100%. This will keep your cycle count low but is not good for the battery in the long run as it need to "breathe" so to speak.
Seeing that you use your computer so much, you must expect the battery life to run out accordingly, so don't worry too much about cycle count. About once a month or every three weeks or so, unplug the charger and let the battery go down to 40 or 50 percent of charge remaining then plug it back in. This should keep your battery reasonably fit.

  • How often should I charge my new macbook pro with retina display?

hi everybody! I just got my macbook today and I want to take good care of it so it lasts me a while, and I'm particularly concerned about the battery life. what ensures that I can maintain a battery that will drain the slowest? or in other words, what are healthy charging habits? I'm a student so I'll be using it more than  a few hours daily. should I turn off my macbook or set it to sleep when I'm going to sleep for the night (~6 hours). is there ever a time when sleep is preferable to shut down? when I'm using it for an extended period of time, is it better to run it down and charge it or to leave it charging at 100%? how often should I run down the battery, or if not, what level should I run it down to before charging it again? I read somewhere that it's best to charge it to 80% instead of 100%, is there any truth to this? any input is appreciated, thanks.

  • How often is email checked?

I have an E6 and I periodically send test emails.  I noticed that sometimes I receive my test emails instantly.
Other times I receive them after a good while.
On past phones I was able to set how often to check email, but on my E6 for some reason I cant.
    Can anyone explain the inconsistency?

    Hi there!
I noticed on my E6 that "Soonest" means the phone is in sync all the time. You can see a green circule appear at the left top corner of e-mail app. It should send/receive directly (push mail). It works good, didn't notice any disturbances.
I wouldn't recommend to choose that option otherwise you're really in need of that because it will draw your battery down. My recommendation is 30 minutes max to 1 hour in comparison with usability and energy saving.
By the way, you should check at your home screen options menu if your widgets are at "On-line" mode. It's omportant too if you want your mails displayed soonest.

  • How to prolong battery life

How often should i calibrate the battery? does calibrating the battery more often help to prolong battery life? I usually leave airport on even if im not using the internet, so does that drain the battery life much faster than if I left it off? I use my laptop sometimes in class with airport on, but im not using the internet. And it went from 100% to about 85% in about 40 minutes. Text edit was the only application I had open. is this normal? Idk i might be wrong, but it just seems to me that my battery drains really fast. bluetooth is always off. at home even when its at 100% i leave the charger plugged in. is that affecting battery life?

    How to calibrate:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86284
Do that for a couple of month or whenever you think the battery starting to behave erratically.
    Some more explanation :
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
And 15% for 40 minutes is about right even if you using it only for text edit, considering the screen is on most of the time.
Yes airport consume power too, if you not need that for a long time (in class for 1 hour), turn it off. But some user posted that the different is only couple minutes only.
And new battery technology won't let you over charge the battery, so it still safe to leave it plugged let say overnight.
    Good Luck.

  • How to calibration battery correctly

    HI,
May I know how to calibration battery correctly for apple devices ?
Actually need very month calibration one time for totally device discharged 100%-0% and then charged 0%-100% then using as normal ?
Or need to discharged 2 times and then fully charged 2 times back ?

There is no such thing as calibration of a Lithium-Ion battery as there used to be with NiCad batteries.  The only thing that can be calibrated is the charge reporting circuitry.  Repeated discharge to shutdown is actually damaging to the battery, and independent studies show that discharge to 50% and then charge will result in three to four times the battery life vs full discharge.  You are far better off following a frequent recharge procedure than discharging to shutdown as a regular thing.

  • How often do you turn off iphone and iPad?

How often should you turn off (power down) your iphone and ipad?
For that matter, how often should you shut down your imac?
    I've been getting conflicting answers...

    BinxyG wrote:

For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).

  • How Often Can MBP Be Put To Sleep?

    Hi,
I have recently purchased a MacBook Pro.
How often can it be put to sleep? Will it harm the OS if I Shut Down every time I have finished with the MBP?
How long will the battery last if the MBP is left in sleep for a long period?
    Thanks in Advance,

Shutting down is supposedly more stressful to the hardware than sleep, and there's really no practical limit to how often you can put it to sleep.  I probably close and open my MBP several dozen times per day, on average.  It makes me worry a little about the hinge, but I haven't had hinge problems since my old PowerBook G3 more than a decade ago.  (And to be fair, I kind of whacked the hinge kind of hard on that machine, which probably played a role.  )
As for the battery, if you leave the machine sleeping and not plugged in, there is a slight drain over time, but it's not significant unless you leave it that way for a long time - like, for example, if you leave it sleeping with no power cord connected overnight.

  • How to save battery life on iPod touch 5g?

Give me tips on how to save battery life on iPod touch 5g.It dies out very quickly.

    Turn down the screen brightness
Look into notifications. it defaults to everything being on and you can turn off most if not all of them.
Check your e-mail. If it's on push that means it's reaching out for new mails every so often, turning it to fetch means that it only goes to get mail when you tell it to.
Look at some of your apps. Some of them may be doing things in the background that you don't realize and you can tweak those to not run when you don't need them to run.

  • Ipod HI-FI on rechargable battery

    Hello all,
i just get an HI-Fi and i bought 6 D cell ( 2500mha) from energizer. it seems the Ipod Hi fi dry them in less than one hour?
    i guess something is wrong...
i use Ipod fully charged before plugin it in the HI-FI, may be the backlight during play is energie consuming...but anyway insould be able to listen more than one hour. i listen to low volume too...so anyone running hi-fi on rechargable battery. i 'd like to know how long to they last,
    thanx,

iPod HiFi does not appear to be designed specifically to operate from rechargeable batteries. Since they would provide 7.2 volts rather than the 9 volts the iPod HiFi expects, it would see them as partly depleted in any case.
However the main problem is that a D cell rechargeable of 2500mAh is not a proper capacity D cell. It is an AA rechargeable in a D cell casing. For example, an alkaline D cell provides at least 12,000 mAh. This explains your one hour battery life. Try finding some genuine D cell rechargeable with at least 8000 mAh capacity.
