How often should I recharge the batte

I'm disappointed with the fact that every single thing you do with the Nomad Xtra seems to cause extra drain on the battery - change the volume, change the track, use or disable EAX, and so on. Be that as it may...
Is it okay to recharge the battery every day, no matter how much "juice" is left in it's Some say yes, some say wait till there's one bar left, some say wait until it's completely drained.
By the way, I returned the 40GB Nomad Xtra, the battery question being one of the reasons. I currently have a GB flash player, but I might return that (the controls are weird and difficult to use), and I might get another Nomad Xtra instead (ironically, the removable battery was the final selling point in convincing me to go Creative the first time around). If I do go back to the Nomad Xtra, I want to be a more informed consumer.

What I plan to do is let the battery drain, or at least wait until there's only one bar in the battery indicator. The second or third time that happens, I'm going to start making it a habit of re-charging the battery on a pretty much daily basis. How does that sound, is that okay?
Really the 2 or 3 charges at the beginning aren't even necessary. When you get the player, the first thing to do is charge it fully. After that it is better for the battery life to shallow charge. I wouldn't worry too much though about how you charge the battery, unless it's really important to you.
I do have one concern, however... when I start re-charging the battery every day I plan to let it re-charge overnight. On the surface, that seems to go against the advice given on page C-6 in the User's Guide, in the "FAQs and Troubleshooting" section:
<EM>"Should I leave my player plugged into the AC adapter?</EM>
<EM>"No, you should not. After charging the battery or using the player, disconnect it from the AC power adapter. Leaving it plugged in leads to heat buildup, which is not good for the player or the battery."</EM>
Any advice, comments or whatever?
It's just some incorrect comments in the manual. Any charging battery will generate a little heat. The Lithium Ion batteries that the Xtra uses don't generate much heat, and once the charge has finished the charging circuit turns off. Therefore no heat buildup will occur, and the battery will not continue to charge.
The only issue is that if you leave a mains adapter plugged into the wall, the mains adapter itself will continue to use electricity whether it's plugged in to charge the Zen or not. So for the good of the environment and your electricity bill you might want to turn off the wall socket or remove the mains adapter from the wall.

  • How often should you do the maintenace cron scripts??

    Hi all,
As the subject suggests, I just like to know how often should you run those maintenace cron scripts???
    thanks...

    * I don't know if this is the place for this question, if not, then I am sorry. *

    macuserguy,
You may find Dr. Smoke's excellent FAQ about Running the Mac OS X maintenance scripts helpful.
The FAQ suggests approximately weekly basis (especially if your Mac is shutdown or in sleep mode overnight) though perhaps more frequently if you have a smaller HD as these log files can take up alot of room.
    Hope that helps some,

  • How often should I condition the Raid?

Can someone help me understand what this does and how often should it be done.
Why wasn't an automated feature added to do this periodically?
Can bad things happen when you condition an array?
    Thanks,

FWIW I have never conditioned any of my arrays, and I have 16 of them, all of which have been running 24/7 since they day they were each installed. I've never even thought about doing it.

  • How often should the SMP server get restarted? Cockpit message "Restart Required!"

How often should I restart the SAP Mobile Platform server? I have received a message in the SMP Management Cockpit that states "Restart Required!".

    Hi Darrel,
Batish is right there is no need to restart server unless you change specific settings that need a restart. Ex. cache settings. You can find an "i" symbol next to these fields which need a restart if you change these values.
Also server restart is needed if you change any config files ex. admin-role-mapping.xml.
Are you able to reproduce this issue. Could you give a screen shot of this issue. What is the version of server?

  • How often should the Cisco 6509 and 3750 switches be rebooted? Does Cisco have a best practice recommendation?

How often should the 6509's and 3750's switches be rebooted?
Does Cisco have a best practice document on this and recommendation how long the switch should be up before it gets rebooted?
Why is a reboot needed if there are no indications of issues on the log?

    I'd agree with Larry here.
If you're not seeing any issues with your IOS revision and there are no relevant PSIRTs (security notices applicalble to features and or exposure of your device requiring an IOS upgrade) then you can go a very long time without rebooting, if ever.
I'm sure it's far from a record, but our corporate distribution router that supports >1000 downstream devices day in and day out has never been rebooted since installation just over 5 years ago. I have a top of rack Layer 2 switch (2900 series running CatOS) that's almost at 10 years.
That said, you should have some monitoring scheme that assures you everything is healthy. But as long as memory and cpu are happy, the device will run forever.

  • How often should I charge my new macbook pro with retina display?

hi everybody! I just got my macbook today and I want to take good care of it so it lasts me a while, and I'm particularly concerned about the battery life. what ensures that I can maintain a battery that will drain the slowest? or in other words, what are healthy charging habits? I'm a student so I'll be using it more than  a few hours daily. should I turn off my macbook or set it to sleep when I'm going to sleep for the night (~6 hours). is there ever a time when sleep is preferable to shut down? when I'm using it for an extended period of time, is it better to run it down and charge it or to leave it charging at 100%? how often should I run down the battery, or if not, what level should I run it down to before charging it again? I read somewhere that it's best to charge it to 80% instead of 100%, is there any truth to this? any input is appreciated, thanks.

  • How often do you use the List bar to Navigate

    Hi Ppl,
I'm trying to build a custom sequence editor. In the Sequence Editor while the executions are run the sequence file view tab is open. So most of the time I use the tab's to navigate between sequence view and execution view. However in the full featured UI the sequence view is not visible while executing. So we have to navigate using the list bar.
I wanted to know will it be better to implement the way sequence editor displays the sequence view while executing. I can use a combo box to navigate to various sequence files and executions within the respective views. How often you guys use the list bar to navigate ?
    Thanks

Of course I have no idea what "isn't so great" means. Relative to what?
Is it worse than the current user search?
Is it better that the current user search but not as improved as the new forum search?
    Is it just different?
Are the user search results better, but the interface is harder to use?
One thing could be improved. There should be a way to sort partial matches by the number of posts so inactive members don't  clutter the first dozen pages of the search result. For example, if I search for "Dennis", I want him on top of that huge list. (many, many pages!)
If I search for "Dennis K" I still want partial matches, but currently there is no result if I do that. (Why does "Dennis" return many matches while "Dennis K" returns nothing (!!?), and "Dennis Knutson" again works????)
To answer your questions as best I can, the new user search is just different. The way that it presents information is different (you can check out Lithium's community to see what I mean). When I do a search, the user I expect to show up first does not necessarily show up first - in that way, it's about the same as your Dennis example. I think the current search works better for me because as an Admin I get the ability to search more fields.
On the plus side, you get the option to sort the user results by Login name (alphabetically), rank, posts, or registration date, all which could help you with finding Dennis.
So to summarize, I think the actual results will be similar with some added sort functionality. The user interface is very different, in more of a grid view as opposed to a list.   I don't know that I would classify it as better or worse.  That's a great wishy-washy answer, right?
    Thanks,
    Laura

  • How long should I charge the New iPad battery ??

    Hi,
    Can someone tell me :
How long should I charge the New iPad battery ??
i dont know, and i cant find this on the apple page.
i know that with the iPod Touch Five and Four Generation, the charge its only 2-4 hours but on the iPad how long is the charge?
    im really miss it!
    Can someone help me ?
    Thanks!!

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. My iMac seems to have frozen during the update- how long should I expect the update to take? The 'installing software update' bar is still showing itself working but has been stuck in the same position for over an hour. Any thoughts?

Update2: There is something very wrong with wireless on mountain lion recovery. I don't know what the problem is, but this link may explain:
    http://osxdaily.com/2012/08/10/os-x-mountain-lion-10-8-1-beta-released-for-dev-t esting-may-include-wi-fi-fix/
Wireless recovery would start out with over 25 hours estimated and kept on failing. It turns out to be a two step process of downloading a few Mbytes then a 4Gbyte .dmg file, but I couldn't even download the Mbyte file. I bought the thunderbolt to gigabit ethernet adapter, plugged it in, restarted recovery and download of a little more than 4Gbytes took less than an hour. My limiting factor was probably comcast home internet rate of 12Mbps. The wi-fi wireless connection should be able to do over 100Mbps, so wireless shouldn't be much slower than wired, except wi-fi wireless is broken. Now that ML is installed and updated, wi-fi seems fine now, as I am using it right now, but I haven't tried downloading a big file yet.
Don't use wi-fi wireless for Mountain Lion recovery.

  • How often should I charge MBP Retina 13 (mid 2014)?

    Hi,
I didn't find an accurate answer for this question over the Internet, so I think I need a specialist opinion. As all we know, MBP batteries are not easy removeable, thus we should care about them more. I work on MBP for whole days, thus sometimes I need to charge it even twice a day. Charging once a day is a standard for me.
My ordinary (daily) charging looks like that:
    (I have fully charged MBP)
    1. I work until the battery level decreases until about 8%.
    2. I charge it to 100% and unplug it from the power source.
And I do this every day. Should change my charging customs and use a power supply instead more often (if yes, how often?) or not. I know how to care about the battery, about fully charge and discharge once a double week. Usually when working on a non-Mac notebook and I just removed the battery and used the power supply for whole day. Now it's obviously not possible becauses of loosing power cycles.
    Please answer and thank you.

As Esquared said, it is not good to drain your battery down to 8%. You will wear it out quicker that way.
Leaving the charger plugged in permanently is not a good idea either. The 95% to 100% you mention is when you leave the charger plugged in and it will drop about 1 percentage point a day even when the computer is shut down until it reaches 95% and then start recharging up to 100%. This will keep your cycle count low but is not good for the battery in the long run as it need to "breathe" so to speak.
Seeing that you use your computer so much, you must expect the battery life to run out accordingly, so don't worry too much about cycle count. About once a month or every three weeks or so, unplug the charger and let the battery go down to 40 or 50 percent of charge remaining then plug it back in. This should keep your battery reasonably fit.

I flew from PDX to DAB today browsing the internet both via wi fi (fast) and Edge (slow, but usable) at various airports and other locations. This browser is the best! I do not have to take a laptop with me anymore. The re size feature is the key, all phone browsers will have this in the future.
Its been years since I was excited about anything in the tech world (and I own a Software company) but I gotta hand it to Apple they really did a job with the iPhone.

  • How long should you use the Macbook is the fan is at Max?

Hey all, the reason i ask is because sometimes when i visit a site with embedded video the CPU rises and heats up so the fan goes up to max. How long should you keep there with out damaging anything? Sometimes the videos are 45 mins, there tv shows and by 5th min is heated up and i dont want to keep it running for the rest of the 45 mins and wreck somthing. Whats the max time for that?

Not really an answer but I was wondering where your computer is located or how you are using it? My kids were putting a quilted blanket on their lap and then running their notebook on top of the blanket. The blanket had a terrible insulating affect on the computer. And to make matters worse, sometimes the blanket would block the fan exhaust! I had to scold them and teach them to put something else on the blanket over their lap, like a book, and then put the notebook on the book. That really stopped the fan from running a lot.
It's just something to be aware of. The MB will run cooler if there is space all around it.
