How old is the latest mac?

I was thinking of gettign a new mac (tower) soon but have lost track of the development cycle. How long has the latest incarnation been out and what is the general consensus on when a new one will be released?

I may need a new Mac to handle the 21MP files from the next itteration of DSLR I hope to get (5d2)in th new year but I might wait for the 1Ds4 which will no doubt have even huger files and my current G5 dual PPC 2.3 will struggle with files that large (in photoshop speedwise)
I wondered where the cycle was at because exactly as you say I prefer not to get a compltely new model and have to troubleshoot it etc. Every mac I have had bar one (3 laptops, 6 desktops) has had to go back or needed repair at some point within 2 yrs approx of buying so I am cautious ( and unlucky apparently).
My current G5 has just shown the firewire port problem reported on te web, but I hadn't noticed it until I very recently used a firewire peripheral for the first time. This machine has already had both chips replaced (free)
Apple has been reasonable about fixing things so Im not complaining , but saying that although it makes sense to wait a while for kinks to get ironed out, they are just as likely in my experience to show up after the party anyway so it makes not as much difference as one might imagine in the long run
I think I might hang out for the next version whenever it comes as there's al;ways te possibility that next years high end DSLrs could be even 50MP which will produce ridiculous files, so better have a machine that can handle it;).
I guess then nothing new is likely until about 9 months from now at the earliest ?

You may want to use the Migration Assistant, which appears the first time you start up the new machine during setup, and also is available later (it is found in /Applications/Utilities.) Note that if you are running 10.4.x on the old MacBook both machines need to use FireWire to do this, but the late 2006 MacBook has that. You will need a special 4 pin to 6 pin FireWire adapter cable, as the FireWire ports on the newest MacBook Pros are different.

No. It does not pass itself on without some intervention by the users involved.

Don't except files from anyone with the file name mentioned.

Be aware before Unstuffing any unknown files.
Change the IChat > Preferences > Message section option to Confirm before sending any Files to ON This may not stop the code from getting your computer to send the file without you seeing but it may help based on the way the code is described as being put together generally.

The easiest way is to install Mountain Lion, and then you can download iMovie 11. If your Mac is supported by Mountain Lion, performance should be fine.
The other way would be to try to find a retail boxed copy of iLife 11 from eBay or Amazon. You can then install iMovie 11 up to version 9.04. But that is it, you cannot get 9.07 without at least installing Lion.

Yes (if the external iSight works.)
External iSights are great webcams, but they are getting old (as consumer electronics go) and some have had pretty rough treatment. You can test yours using the suggestions from this page:

I suggest you disconnect other Firewire devices until you get your external iSight working with your mini.
If you do not already have an external iSight and are considering buying one now,
a new webcam (with warranty) may be a better choice.

I suggest you disconnect other Firewire devices until you get external iSight working with your mini. Once iSight works when it is the only FW connected device, you can try connecting other Firewire devices to determine whehter you can use any of them without conflict.

With your 10.6.3 mini, you can use QuickTime X, iChat, Photo Booth, iMovie, and some of the other apps that are installed with OS X. Your Mac's Help for each of these apps can tell you how to use them with iSight (or other connected cameras.)

It is likely that you downloaded AirPort Utility 5.6.1. If you checked the requirements, this only runs on Leopard or Snow Leopard Macs.

Simply purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store and it will begin installation after the download is complete. Note that it's a large download, about 4.5GB, so you should have a good Internet connection..
However... if I were you, I would just wait another month or so until Apple releases Mavericks - the 'latest' announced version of OS X -> http://www.apple.com/osx/preview/.
No need to pay for two upgrades in a months (or so) time...

With each prior OS, I could scan and immediately save any scanned file in PDF format. Now it is not allowed, and creates a file
that has nothing but noise, even though the scan software seems to show that each scan is captured correctly (in the scan window,
before I ask it to save the file). When trying to save to PDF, I get a message that tells me that this is a read-only file, which I don't
quite understand, since the same scanning / saving process always created a PDF in the past.

I also noted when reading about the new OS 10.9 that all driver software is now part of the MAC OS and no longer supplied by the vendor of the printer / scanner. I suspected this is where the trouble is located.....but I did not know how to ascertain what could be done to restore my PDF creation capabilities. If you have older versions of excel and word that previously ran under the Rosetta emulator (allows PowerPC code to run on Intel system), they will no longer work with Lion.
You can use the Apple programs Pages and Numbers to access the files. They can be bought and downloaded from the App store. NeoOffice is available at http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/index.php which has Lion support. OpenOffice doesn't talk to Lion support, it's at http://www.openoffice.org/

Can anybody give me an idea on how to get the latest credit limit values per each customer in the report.
I have below requiremnt.
I have cube which is having transactional data on document and customer level .and it also having master data info object in the cube which is credit management view having all the customer numbers .
This credit management view is master data info object having credit limit key figure as attribute.These credit limit are per each customer.
So we need these credit limits in the report as dynamic values .(I mean whatever be the current credit limit in the master data table for that paricular customer that should show up in the reporting).
one more thing these credit limits should roll up correctly at the HTR level.
One HTR having number of customers .
for example HTR 100 can have customer number 200,300,400.
Those 200,300,400 customer credit limits should roolup correctly at the HTR 100 level.
Example below :

one more thing we can not make them as charatistics because we need use these credit limits to derive other calkculation. so it is not possibel to derive calculations on charactristics .

Create a formula variable of type replacement path with reference as attibutes of Credit management view and choose your key figure credit limit,say zcredit.
Now create a formula or CKF and use zcredit.
This should display the credit limit in your report as normal key figure.
I didnot get this part "one more thing these credit limits should roll up correctly at the HTR level.", may be the above will solve this too.Try it.

thats the problem, its in MSDos (Fat) or NTFS for Windows.
Options.....
1. offload all that data on the HD onto your PC, THEN format the HD in EXFAT for use on BOTH PC and Mac for read/write.....then reload all (or as you need) that data back onto the HD
2. get another HD, and format it for Mac OSX extended journaled.
FAT32 (File Allocation Table)
Read/Write FAT32 from both native Windows and native Mac OS X.
Maximum file size: 4GB.
Maximum volume size: 2TB
You can use this format if you share the drive between Mac OS X and Windows computers and have no files larger than 4GB.
NTFS (Windows NT File System)
Read/Write NTFS from native Windows.
Read only NTFS from native Mac OS X
To Read/Write/Format NTFS from Mac OS X, here are some alternatives:
For Mac OS X 10.4 or later (32 or 64-bit), install Paragon (approx $20) (Best Choice for Lion)
Native NTFS support can be enabled in Snow Leopard and Lion, but is not advisable, due to instability.
AirPort Extreme (802.11n) and Time Capsule do not support NTFS
Maximum file size: 16 TB
Maximum volume size: 256TB
You can use this format if you routinely share a drive with multiple Windows systems.

It would "run" (more like Sunday stroll or walk) if you installed Snow Leopard in a VM. Especially if you have 6-core (and would help to have 6 or 8 cores anyway if you were able to and intend to make best use of nMP for video editing).
If you "classic" Mac Pro was 2009 or later, adding two AMD graphic cards, upgrading the processor to 8-core 3.xGHz would have gotten you a FCP-X capable machine and still dual boot and use Snow Leopard as needed.
Any Mac Pro can now use 1000MB/sec SSD PCIe blade to boot from and/or for scratch and editing to help improve work flow.
