How playlists are curating the future of music

Here's an interesting read for all you playlist makers out there . Looks like what you are doing is starting to make a big impact on the music industry.
http://pitchfork.com/features/articles/9686-up-next-how-playlists-are-curating-the-future-of-music/

Massive shout out to   and  for being featured in the article:
"There’s Jonathan Good, a 37-year-old business manager near Glasgow who has about 2,000 followers on Spotify and says his “obsession” started after a positive review for one of his playlists on another site. One of his most successful playlists, “If Darth Was a DJ”, is based on what he imagined theStar Wars villain would play behind the decks. “I’ve always enjoyed sharing my musical discoveries, and Spotify gives me the ability to do that on a larger scale,” Good tells me in an email. “Playlists are now the way we listen to music, and I can see a time coming when the playlist creator becomes just as important an element in the process as the artists being featured.”
Then there’s Soundofus, aka Gerard, a retired school director from the suburbs of Paris with almost 20,000 Spotify followers who asks me not to publish his age or full name (but says he has seen the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Kinks, and the Who all perform live). He runs a music review website and got a big break when a playlist he researched and compiled with songs from the 2012 Summer Olympics in London ended up going viral.
Diestro, aka Cristian Garcia, an unemployed 25-year-old from southern Spain with 18,000 followers, says he made his first playlist to organize music that he likes, such as Dire Straits and Queen, but since then has made more than 200 more across different genres and styles. He tells me in an email that while Apple and others hire paid playlist makers, it’s amateurs like him that are often more effective. He hopes more services will take Spotify’s lead in empowering its users and, at the same time, hopes to one day work in a job “related with music, something that I enjoy every minute of my life.”

I'm new to Mac. I have an iPhone and a Mac Mini.  My original iTunes was on a Windows computer that crashed.  So, all of my iTunes Music and Movies are gone.  How do I get the movies and music from my iPhone to the new Mac Mini?

If you still have the crashed Win computer, you may be able to recover your music and movies from the hard drive. If you have a friend with a hard drive USB connection kit and a PC, they should be able to help.  Otherwise, check locally for computer services that might do that for you (I think Best Buy Geek Squad may be able to help). If the drive itself is in good shape, it shouldn't be too expensive.

  • HT3819 How do I changing the view in music on the iPad to the same I see in the instructions on home sharing?

How do I change the view in music on my iPad to the one show in setting up home sharing?
    Thanks, first time user

Yes, I know what you are talking about. If you notice the date of that article in the upper left corner of the web page - March 2011 - what you see in that photo did apply in the Music App at that time.
The app was changed in the iOS 5 update, but the photo is the article was not updated. If you notice the heading at the top, it mentions iOS 4.3 and that was some time ago.
Many people - from what I have seen - really do not like the new look of the Music App. I am not in love with it. However, I don't use the Music App as much as many other iPad users, so I just live with it the way that it is and I hope that iOS 6 will bring further improvement.

  • Where are all the Photo and Music files hiding?

When I "Get Info" for the Music folder in my Home directory it says that the folder contains 7,672 items taking up 34.87 GB of HD space. On the bottom of the iTunes window it says that iTunes includes 3,514 songs using 16.55 GB.
Similarly, "Get Info" for the Pictures folder in my Home directory says that it includes 24,989 photo files using 28.22 GB of space. However, on the bottom of the iPhoto window it says that there are 5,574 photos in iPhoto.
The question is, what are and where are all of these extra music files and photos?
The numbers quoted in the applications themselves look right. I don't have 7,672 tunes and I definitely don't have 24,989 photos.
I transfered the folders from my iMac to the Macbook Pro by connecting the iMac in Target Disk mode by Firewire. Is it possible that somehow I created many duplicate music and photo files? How do I eliminate the duplicates to free up HD space?
Thanks in advance for your help.

What Mac do you have? MacBook?
    Version of iLIfe?
iPhoto stores and uses a package now for the iPhoto LIbrary which if you do get info and show package contents has your files and library you imported.
Might want to ask in iLife area too.

  • Upgrade from MacBook to Pro....How do I transfer the data, Info, Music and Photos from my MacBook to a new Pro please??

Hi all......as the title suggests, I'm looking to upgrade to the 2011 MacBook Pro.
I currently have a 2008 MacBook and I would like to transfer all the info (Pics, Music, Apps etc) from the MacBook to the Pro - How do I do this please? Should I take it to a store to be done?
Also, I would like to "gift" my MacBook to a friend once I have the Pro - can I clear the MacBook and give it to my friend as a blank (but retaining the OS)??
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions offered.
    Cheers.

  • With iTunes 11 how do you see the size of music or other albums? ie number of tracks and disc space

When attempting to sync my iPhone 4s with the new iTunes 11 i get an error message " cannot sync as need more disc space" however the usage bar on the iphone shows space enough; how can you see the total volume of libraries such as music and films in the new iTunes?

It may be the disc space on your computer, not the phone.  In itunes if you click on music, movies, apps, etc it shows the total usage at the bottom of the screen. Good luck.

  • How many are missing the new update?

Only want to know how many **bleep** Nokia customer are awaiting the PR1.1? I still can't understand why they don't send it out to all customer of the N9. If they have a problem say so! I am one that are missing, Sweden Nokia N9 Cyan I will never buy a Nokia phone again...

Yes I was, until frustration led me to ***** and winflash.
Please tell us Nokia how ****has firmware and updates for UK/Ireland where the phone is not ven available to buy, and yet the Swiss version has still no update???
Absolutely crazy way of dealing with software rollout. There is no reasoning behind a staggered release in this day and age, and as this effects unbranded hardware try can not blame carrier intervention.
Whilst I'm enjoying the N9, this my first non apple smartphone since the iPhone launched, it has made me appreciate the way apple roll out updates in a much more professional manner, wherein they treat all consumers in all regions as equals.
Nokia has left a bittersweet taste in my mouth.
No doubt this will all be repeated in a few months when PR1.2 finally / supposedly lands.

  • My computer is "dying" and I will need to get another.  Question: How do I transfer the iTunes account/music, etc that is on the dying computer?

How can you transfer the current iTunes account from a "dying" computer to a new one.  Mine is slowly dying and I need to get another computer, but do not want to loose the content of our iTunes account.  Thanks

Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.

  • Synching iPad to older PC with less memory - it ran out of space when synching movies - how to synch in the future if we can't free up more space (besides buying a new computer)

    In synching ****...
Tried to synch iPad with several movies with a PC that turns out to have less memory than what we were synching.
Turned off synching of movies to try to help the situation...
    WRONG!
Two of our purchased movies were deleted in the synch process.
We got them out of the PCs recycle bin but now how have them on the PC, but not on the iPad.
How do we (a) get the movies back on to the iPad and
    (b) solve the longer-term issue of synching if the PC can't hold as much as the iPad does?

He doent have to , we already know he's got a xp machines, and from the fact that he's able to sync his iPad to it tells me enough, it's enough to know he has the basic requirements to connect an external drive via USB, now we know it's an older machine so it more than likely he's got a ton of .tmp files taking up space, and the fact that he's asking this question makes me think he may not be aware of how to  search the HD via *.tmp from the command line to location and delete those files, so w/o buying a new machine, his only option is intsalling a new Internal or external hard drive.

  • How do i get the apps and music back on my iPod 4th generation after restoring it?

My ipod touch 4th generation was being really slow and crashing on almost every app. I have had it for 1 and a half years. I decided to back everything up and restore it . This worked almost flawlessly; the problem is that i have lost my apps and music.I still have my photos and contacts and the background is the same and the wifi automatically connected. Is there anything i can do or will i just have to download all the apps and music again? Thankyou

If not in your iTunes library
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • TS3972 How can I access the files(movies, music, etc) in my Apple Time Capsule(4th Gen) from my Apple TV(3rd Gen). This is very frustrating Apple has not provided a basic feature, and me buying the Time Capsule and Apple TV is an complete waste of bucks.

I have an Apple TV (3rd Gen) and Apple Time Capsule (4th Gen). How can I access Movies and Music stored in the Time Capsule from Apple TV. This is very  n't give frustrating that Apple doesn't give their customers with an straight forward access to their customers in between their own products. Iam repenting that buying these products is completely waste of bucks. Appreciate your help...

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The Time Capsule is clearly announced as a router with a hard drive to make backups, not to store anything and share it with your Apple TV.
To access to movies and music from the Time Capsule, note that the Apple TV can only access to them if they are stored in your iTunes library, so you will have to put your movies and music into iTunes to access to them, and then, put your iTunes library on the Time Capsule in order to access to your data from there

  • After turning on iTunes Match, songs in playlist are in the wrong order across all devices.

So in iTunes, my client had several playslists, all with songs in a specific manual order.  None of them are smart playlists.
After iTunes Match was activated, the song order seems to have changed in every playlist and on one iPhone where the same iTunes Match account was also enabled on.
We know they are in a different order as an iPod touch that does NOT have iTunes Match enabled yet still has the original order.
Just wondering what the best way to fix this would be.  Should we manually drag the songs to the right order or is there a simpler way to revert to how they were ? Also would manually moving the update the order across all iTunes Match devices ?

This worked although it was very clumsy (we had almost 3,000 files that had to be deleted and redownloaded. I could not figure out a way to sort all of the 'exclamation points' together so it took an hour or so to scan through the entire library list and delete each file individually and/or in small groups.) The download was very straight forward. In my experience (with iTunes match turned on,) we did NOT loose our playcounts.
Going through all those files I noticed several common themes that may have triggered the problem: 1) multiple artists, 2) special characters in the song title, artist and/or album name - particularly umlauts (we have quite a few german songs in our library.) 3) very long title, artist and/or album names.
I hope that someone from Apple is aware of these issues and working on them....
