How print duplex on Solaris 10 0508 x86 ?

Hello,
I just installed Solaris 10 0508 x86 on a Ultra 20. We have a networked HP laserjet 8150dn printer. What is the option to print duplex?
Previously on Solaris 10, 1106, I followed the instructions on http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/content/submitted/duplex_printing.html and was able to print double-sided.
However, now on update 0508, the same lp and lpadmin option "-o sides=two-sided-short-edge" doesn't work - still prints single-sided. What gives? Please help me save a tree!
These lp or lpadmin options didn't work either:
"-o duplex"
"-o sides=duplex"
Also looked at HP's SOLe134.PKG, but it's for SPARC, not x86 - couldn't find a download for x86.
Thanks!

I'm not sure if there was some sort of corruption, but I eventually resolved the issue by removing and readding the printing-related packages from the CD:
SUNWpcr
SUNWpcu
SUNWpsr
SUNWpsu
SUNWpsf
SUNWscplp
SUNWspman
SUNWscpu
and then installing a default local virtual printer before the network one:
# lpadmin -p new-printer -v /dev/term/a -T PS -I postscript..
# enable new-printer
# accept new-printer
# lpstat -t

  • Printer setup on Solaris 8 x86

I have a Solaris 8 x86 box and try to attach a Brother HL-760 printer to LPT1. The printer is HP5 compatible, supports PCL5, but no Postscript. I tried to attach it with HP printer driver, it was a successful experience. However, I can only print text files. If I want to print a web page from my browser, it gave my garbage. Can someone help me out? Must the printer have Postscript?
    Thanks.

  • How to restore / on Solaris 8 X86

    Hi,
    I new the procedure:
    newfs /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0
    mount /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 /a
    /usr/lib/fs/ufs/ufsrestore
    chdir /usr/platform/`uname -i`/lib/fs/ufs
    /usr/platform/i86pc/lib/fs/ufs
    /usr/sbin/installboot pboot bootblk /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0
But on Solaris 8, you also have the following filesystem to restore:
    /dev/dsk/c0t0d0p0:boot
    10579 1668 8911 16% /boot
What should I do to backup/restore /dev/dsk/c0t0d0p0:boot? And will restoring these 2 filsesystems be enough to also restore the boot loader?
    Thanks.

Technically... you should restore to Snow Leopard (or whatever OS you had before Lion).  "You" purchased a license to install Lion on each of your machines under your Apple ID.  The Apple ID of the purchaser is also required to use recovery (which the purchaser will not have).  Of course if you want to purchase the USB flash drive with Lion on it and include that with your old machine, that would be fine.

  • Install Non-postscript print on Solaris 10 x86

I tried to setup a print queue on solaris 10 x86 for a Brother HL-1230 non-postscript printer which attached to Linksys EPSX3 print server parallel port 1 (L1).
    The network configuration as followed:
    EPSX3: 192.168.2.250
    Solaris box: 192.168.2.170
    /etc/hosts:
    192.168.2.170 neptune
    192.168.2.250 epsx3
I used the printmgr to setup my print queue. In the destination field I typed epsx23:L1 and pick up the printer drive by model number using ppd file.
I'm able to use the print queue to print text file, eg. /etc/hosts.
However, I didn't get any ouput from web browser. When I print from the PDF viewer, it complained there is no supported postscript printer.
Did I do something wrong in the setup? When I used the lpstat -p command to see the print queue status, it return nothing. Is there anything wrong with the print server daemon?
    Thanks.

Hi I have one more doubt, if you can help-me.
    I set PATH like this:
    #PATH=/usr/local/bin:$PATH; export PATH
and work, but if I restar the machine I need do set PATH again: #PATH=/usr/local/bin:$PATH; export PATH.
Have any way to save this?
And I have the same problem with:
    #BOOST_ROOT=/xtras/boost_1_34_1
    Thanks#

  • Solaris 10 x86 Jumpstart and console

How do you get Solaris 10 x86 Jumpstart to redirect it's output to the console? I have an X4500 that I'm trying to jumstart while logged into the ILOM console. Everything will crap out, and all output will go to the VGA port.

Yes... I've seen and used the grub -b switches for input-device and output-device and this does change the way certain things work. However, this does not redirect input and output solely to the console, as you would, lets say, any sparc box. I start a jumpstat process, tell it to go to the console, and it hangs and waits for input from the VGA device. Right now, I have an odd interaction going on between the ILOM webgui redirection and the console. I can't login through the webgui and reboot the box through the console, nor can I hit CTRL+N to get it to boot off the network when I have the ILOM Webgui redirected to my keyboard. But when it boots off the virtual CD, or if I use the console to get into the BIOS, then and only then can I use my keyboard in the ILOM Webgui.
There is some sort of odd interaction between the console and that stupid VGA port on the ILOM that is not explained in ILOM docs that I have read. And that is what this post is trying to figure out. When you jumpstart a sparc box, you have total control from the console. This is not the case on x86.
Please re-read my other post before you comment on double posting. Both are about x86 jumpstart. One is about console redirection (this post). The other post is asking about getting jumpstart NOT to go through an interactive install through the -b switches. Two separate issues.

  • Installation of solaris-10u9-x86-oracle-db-11gr2.bin

    hi
    how do i install solaris-10u9-x86-oracle-db-11gr2.bin?
    is it any OVM template?
what this .bin is containing actually ?
    kind regards

The first thing most of us do is download and read the installation documents.
That is what I recommend you do too.
Please also do not assume anyone here has any idea what the file you are referencing does ... I am not aware of anything from Oracle with the name you provided.

  • How to Reorganize CSM200 Shared Storage in Solaris 10 x86 Oracle 10gR2

I could use some guidance from those who are more experienced in RAC administration in a Solaris environment with ASM. I have a three-node RAC with Oracle 10gR2 instances on top of Solaris 10 x86 where the shared storage is a Sun CSM200 disk array which looks like a single disk to the rest of the world. I'm not very familiar with the CSM200 Common Array Manager but I do have access to use it.
During initial setup, I followed the Oracle cookbook and defined a storage slice for each of the following: OCR, OCR mirror, three voting disks, and +DATA, for a total of six slices. I brought up the RAC and we've used it for a couple of weeks.
This is a Dev and QA environment, so it changes pretty fast. The new requirement is to add a +FRA and to add a mount point for a file system on the shared storage, so that all three Oracle instances can refer to the same external table(s).
However, I've already used all the available slices in the VTOC on the shared logical drive. I'm not sure how to proceed.
    1) Is it necessary to use the CAM to create two logical disks out of the single existing logical disk?
    2) If so, how destructive is that? I don't need to keep the contents of the database, but I do not want to reinstall CRS or ASM or the DB instances.
    3) Is it possible to combine the OCR and its mirror on the same slice, thus freeing a slice for reuse?
    4) Is it possible to combine all three voting disks on the same slice, thus freeing two slices for reuse?
    Edited by: user12006221 on Mar 29, 2011 3:30 PM
Another question: Under 10.2.0.4, is it possible for the OCR and voting disks to be managed by ASM? I know it would be possible under 11g, but that's not an option as I am trying to match a customer's environment and they aren't going to 11g any time real soon.

What you see is what happens when the Java runtime running on Solaris 10 x86 tries to load a library which is compiled for SPARC.
Because of the native parts in SAP GUI for Java, compilations and installers are required for each OS - HW combination.
The supported platforms can be seen in SAP note 954572. For Solaris only SPARC is currently supported.
Because of the effort needed for compiling, testing, support etc. it is required to focus on OS - HW combinations widely used on desktop machines and Solaris 10 on x86 currently does not seem to be one of those.

  • How to install .ttf fonts in Solaris 10 x86 10/08 ?

    Hi,
I have installed Solaris 10 x86 10/08 on my Pentium-II machine. It is working fine. I am using Java Desktop Session 3 (JDS3).
I have to install a few true type fonts (.ttf) to the machine and make it accessible in the gnome-terminal. I have the font files, that is .ttf files, in my system, but they are not installed.
Could you please give me the procedure to achieve this? Should I install any patches for this?
    Regards,
    Sreeram

    Hello Lubos Kocman,
Thanks for your reply. I followed your suggestion and put the .ttf fonts in the /usr/X11/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType directory and rebooted the system.
[Actually, you had mentioned to put them in /usr/X11/lib/X11/fonts/TTF directory. But I did not find the TTF directory. Instead I found TrueType directory and so I felt it appropriate to place them here.]
But still I am unable to access and choose those fonts from my gnome-terminal's font list. Have I missed something? The same result was obtained when I placed the fonts in the ~/.fonts directory also. Please guide me if I am doing something wrong.
How do we ensure that the system has recognised the fonts which have been installed newly? Any commands to confirm this? Are there any log files pertaining to fonts, where we can know whether the fonts were recognised by the system, and if not recognised, the reason for the same?
Also, I would like to paste the contents of /etc/release of my system:
    Solaris 10 10/08 s10x_u6wos_07b X86
Copyright 2008 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
Use is subject to license terms.
    Assembled 27 October 2008
Should I install any patches to this version of Solaris 10 to get the .ttf fonts installed. As mentioned earlier, I am using Java Desktop System, Release 3 desktop.
Kindly guide me in installing/accessing the .ttf fonts.
    Regards,
    Sreeram

    Hi
Looks like you have installed your Solaris 10 on traditional UFS disk partitions and not using the ZFS whole disk. If so then you need to resize de underlying partition using the format command and then run the growfs to resize the /opt.

  • How do I print duplex via AppleScript?

Hello - I am new to applescript and having a bit of difficulty trying to get started. My initial goal is fairly straightforward: each day (via an iCal action) download a specific URL and print it. Specifically, it's my daily newspaper and I'd like it waiting on the printer in the morning.
Most things worked very well via Automator, but I can't specify print options going that route (at least as far as I know). So, it my first good reason to learn AppleScript. However, I've perused quite a few sites and searched this forum, but can't figure out how to specify printer options like two sided printing.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction.
Not sure if you need this, but the printer type is a canon ip4300

When you say "Adobe", do you mean Acrobat or Reader (for PDFs), or one of Adobe's many other programs?
Usually, the option to print duplex is part of the print driver, and should appear in the print dialog regardless of the application.
Some apps have their own front to the print dialog, but you should still be able to get the rest of it.
The orientation is usually controlled by specifying Long Edge or Short Edge.
