How record from portable cassette recorder to Mac

I need to record some conversations from a portable cassette recorder to my iMac 24 intel...I already have mini-stereo cable which fits the cassette recorder but not sure how to connect to iMac.
The cable plug is 3.5mm plug to 3.5mm plug.
Thanks for any help????

Connect the cable from the recorder to the Mic input on the computer. If there is no Mic input on the computer then you will need a gizmo like the Griffin iMic which will provide a Mic input via one of the computer's USB ports. You will then need some sound recording software that will record sound from a sound input device on the computer. The Griffin iMic comes with an application called Final Vinyl which should do the job. You will need to experiment with sound level to be sure you don't overload the iMic input. Start with very low output level from the recorder until you find the right level of satisfactory recording to the computer.
BTW the above will also work for tape recorders, radios, etc.

I have several old cassette tapes that I'd like to digitize.  Can I do that by playing the tapes on a portable cassette player plugged into the audio in port on the back of my 2012 Mac Mini?  If I can, what plug do I need,  a simple stereo (ground, left, right) mini plug?  Do I need a pre-amp?  What software should I use?

Yes, the audio input on your MacMini is stereo and line level. (It is not a Mic input.) You need a stereo miniature phono plug (3.5 mm) on the end that goes into the MacMini. You do not need a pre-amp.
As far as software goes, you can try 3rd party software, like: http://audacity.sourceforge.net
    or
    Just use Quicktime:

  • Recording from LPs, cassettes, CDs, radio, VCR, etc.

My iMac finally died after six years of service, and I replaced it with a MacBook. I think I have made a mistake in buying a laptop (For one thing, I hate the keyboard), but I'll just have to make the best of it. Anyway, I need to learn how to transfer songs from my cassette/CD player and turntable/radio to my computer. When my iMac worked, I just plugged one end of a cable into the headphone jack on my cassette/turntable, etc. player and the other end into the audio-in port on my iMac and then used SimpleSound to copy the song into my iMac.
How can I now do with my MacBook what I used to do with my iMac, transfer songs from cassettes, LPs, radio, VCR, etc. to my computer?
MacBook, 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Take a direct output from whatever it is you want to
capture the sound from. Then on the other end of the
output, plug a 1/8in cable from the device into the
line input on the macbook. Then use GarageBand to
capture the sound. Try that, and if anything is
    unclear, let us know!
    Matt
I vaguely remember something about where to make the connection and what to avoid. When you say "direct" does that include the headphone jack? I know that works and is safe, but I am reluctant to connect my computer to the speaker jack for fear of blowing-out my computer. There is nowhere else to make the connection. One jack is safe, and one isn't. At least that's the way I remember it.

You can write to Apple with the serial number and they can tell you exactly when your MacPro (as opposed to Mac Book Pro) was manufactured.
And in the Apple menu > about this Mac >  more info > there should be sufficient detail to narrow it down.
EDIT.  These are the specs for the      April 2007 version.

You can use SnapZ Pro X, which will screen record with sound any animation on the monitor into a QuickTime file, but it's expensive.
If you look for Add-ons for Firefox, there are some that download Flash and YouTube videos to a file on your machine.

    How to install
When you click a link, a download of the installer file occurs to your Downloads Folder usually located next to your Trash Can or in your Users Folder.
Open the folder and double click (or File: Open) the download and icon can appear on your desktop which you open and inside is a installer package which you double click on to launch the installer.
OS X will check the download to make sure you intended to start it and that it's not malware it knows about.
Follow the installer instructions to install the software onto your computer and quit when finished.
Some require the browsers to be closed first, others require the machine to be restarted to enable the software.
Once the install is completed, remove any and all downloads from your Download folder, it's safer to keep this folder empty so you can keep track of what appears in there.
Drive by downloads of malware can occur and reside in the Downloads folder, mixing in with files residing there and await your click to install.

  • How do I transfer iTunes from my PC to my Mac Laptop?

How do I transfer iTunes from my PC to my Mac Laptop?

You can't transfer the application since they are for different operating systems.
You would have to download iTunes for your Mac.
To transfer your songs, videos etc, just copy all the files in your ITunes directory to a portable hard drive, and connect the hard drive to your mac.
In iTunes on your mac, make sure the preference (under advanced) for "keep itunes folder organized" is checked.
Then add the folder from your portable hard drive, and all songs will will transferred to your mac.

You can't, from the native BB operating system.
There could be a third party application out there to do this, I am not aware of it.

  • How to add music from a cassette tape?

I have a few cassette tapes that I would like to add to my itunes library but can't figure out what I would need to make that happen. It would seem like I would need a cassette player that had a USB jack on it or something.
If anybody has done this and know of a solution please let me know.
    thanks

A proper USB converter or soundcard would be the most appropriate way to go. However, I believe at least your G5 probably has an audio in mini-jack. Run the output from a cassette player into there and then use a recording utility such as audacity to record the sound. I know there are converters that work between two RCA style wires that are typical for home audio that have mini-jack connectors on the other side. You can get these for a couple of dollars fairly easily (I got mine from a national guitar shop chain but have seen them in many places). I transferred my old tapes by running a line directly out of my home stereo cassette player to the audio-in on my G3.

  • Does Leopard record your Mac's serial number anywhere (logs, etc)?

I recently sold an old Mac, but would like to pull up its serial number. It occurred to me that I have a full clone of the hard drive.
Would the OS have recorded the boot-device's serial number anywhere? I breezed through the log files, but couldn't find anything.
    Any ideas?

If you bought that old Mac, new, you may have other options
for getting the product's serial number from an old email or
other receipt from sales, service, AppleCare or other source.
Products bought online from Apple's store generate an email
receipt and also paperwork from the transaction should have
    the serial number.
A clone of the software on an external hard disk drive should
not have recorded the information from the original computer
since that would've been supported by the Mac's Firmware.
That data is not normally in the hard disk drive; though it is
available to System Profiler, probably on demand when run.
Someone technical may be able to substantiate the path
the computer takes to display the information stored in
    firmware when the software displays this during inquiry;
and IF any hidden data may have survived the cloning,
where it may be found. I doubt a clone would have the data.
If that were available in the clone, so would the firmware version.
As that is generally in the same location the serial number would
be saved. A clone can boot an identical hardware version of a
computer it was made from, and it "knows" to show the current
serial number and technical data from the new host, in Profiler.
So, that data is probably as distant from the Clone as the Mac.
You may be able to contact the new owner and ask, for your
records (having transferred ownership & responsibility) to get
the serial number and reaffirm the date of transfer, too. - You
should have made out a bill of sale including the SN just in case
the computer became a hotbed of illegal yet traceable activity!
Lucky you, if that were so, it'd likely be traced via internet, first.
    {Just kind of kidding, there.}
Or check with the place you bought the computer from to see
if they may have a record of the transaction or have better ideas.
Apple sales support & AppleCare would be likely, if new to you.
My newer computers had email receipts and paperwork in boxes.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • How to import mailboxes from Time Machine to new Mac

I had Time Machine backing up our old G5. We got a Mac Pro back in November and I never was able to import the mail from the G5 to the Mac Pro so I left it alone and just kept using mail on the old G5. Well, the G5 took a dump last monday. I currently have the Time Machine backup for that computer connected to our Mac Pro (but not using it as backup yet). So, the mail from the G5 should be on the Time Machine backup right? If so, can I import it into Mail on the Mac Pro?
I also pulled one of the hard drives from the G5 and have it in the Mac Pro in the 2nd bay just to make sure that HD wasn't dead. It works fine and I tried importing the .mbox files from that drive but it appears that all the mail on that particular drive are from like 2006. So, again, I need to find out how to import mail from the Time Machine drive. Any thoughts?
    10.7.4
    Mail 5.2

Back up what data? Mail data? I don't have any yet. I haven't used Apple Mail on this Mac Pro yet.
Edit: Launching Mail and holding Option right afterwards does nothing. Holding down option and then launching Mail does nothing.
Oooooh.... launching time machine while holding down option......
Edit again.... I don't have a Time Machine menu because that disk is not currently set up as time machine for the Mac Pro yet. I don't want to use it as a backup for this computer yet. I just want to be able to pull some of the backed up contents from it until I'm set.

  • How do I change my iPod Touch from a Windows to a Mac?

I recently bought a Mac, to replace my PC.  I have a 2nd generation iPod running the latest (4.3.3 I think).  I have transfered all my files from my Windows to my Mac through USB, and all the files are also sitting on my Mac.  However, when I insert my iPod to the Mac, it can't sync apps without erasing the data on my iPod.  How do I do it without erasing it?  I have it backed up on my Mac and PC.  I also have a brother with a 4th generation iPod.  I assume the soliution would be the same?  THanks!!

What do you mean?  This is what I get:
