How do I recover all the screen real estate wasted by the vertical frame on the right in this new forum design?

So maybe we both each need dual 30" monitors?

  • How to maximize screen real-estate in Gnome3

Upgraded to Gnome 3 yesterday, only to find that my cherished panels are gone, and the title bar of windows are super bulky.
Could someone educate me about how to make use of the black panel on the top or completely hide it?
I read somewhere on the gnome official site that they have the plan to merge the titlebar and the top panel. Is this in testing now?
    Thanks a lot!

  • Online Services - waste of screen real estate

Does anyone know if it is possible (and how to) hide the Online Services pane that is now on the right hand side of Reader?  It would have been nice if Adobe had made it just another collapsible/expandible pane added to the left side like Thumbnails, Attachments, etc.  Frustrated becaue it just takes up screen real estate.

Well that was totally obviously .  Thanks.

  • 5800 Screen Real estate optimizations

The 5800 phone wastes a lot of screen real estate especially in Landscape mode (can be optimized further in Portrait mode too). Is Nokia planning for any User Experience enhancements?
Are there any 3rd party themes that uses the screen space efficiently?

Something you can do is to use Snaptu and Opera mini as shortcuts on your homescreen this at least gives instant access to a large number of 'apps'/web pages at a single tap !
Also if you check some other web sites, some people modify there phones, but it is not recommended as it would invalidate your phone, and shouldn't be discussed on this forum !!

  • Screen real-estate on the 15" MBP Retina display

The 15" MacBook Pro Retina Display has a remarkable 2880x1800 pixel resolution, compared to the 27" LED display's 2560x1440. Normally, screen real-estate is defined as how much stuff (windows, menu bar items, bookmark lists, etc) you can fit on the screen, with a larger (that is, more pixels) screen being able to show more stuff using its native resolution.
With the MBP's Retina display, the pixels are so small that using its native resolution in the same way as with the 27" monitor should result in, say, really small menu bar items, etc. As a result, the default monitor setting involves scaling, so that something which might normally take up one pixel might get four or eight devoted to it, making it larger and easier to see. Its monitor control panel allows changing that relationship so that everything could be made to appear even larger, resulting in less screen real-estate, or smaller, resulting in more screen real-estate; i.e., lots more stuff can fit on the screen.
My question is whether, at the smallest setting offered, the screen real-estate is the equivalent of, say, a 32" monitor which also has 2880x1800 pixel resolution but is spread over a much smaller physical area, or is the Retina's display still scaled to some smaller equivalent resolution because straight 1 to 1 would simply be too small to be practical? If that's the case, what does the effective resolution work out to be at the smallest setting?
I'm aware that's not a simple question because, for example, I understand that an HD Movie could be displayed pixel for pixel even if everything else outside that window is scaled. Moreover, the use of vector graphics complicates the matter further. But for things like menu lists and word processing documents, can the MBP's Retina display be set to what we understand to be 1 to 1?

the 1920 is simulated, and apple doesn't recommend it.
Apple doesn't offer the option of full resolution (2880x1800) and says everything other than 1440 x 900 won't look as good as 1440x900.
so while you can set the monitor to 17" resolution (1920x1080) it has to simulate it on a 2880x900 screen and has to blur and reinterpolate elements to make it work
they've really messed it up for anyone wanting true HD resolution for professional reasons.
Indeed. Everything except 2880x1800, which is unavailable without SwitchResX, and 1440x900, which comfortably fits one pixel of the image into a four pixel square of the Retina Display, must be simulated or scaled. However, while the scaling is real, the 17" "simulation" looks as good, to my eye at least, as my wife's MBP 17". Going smaller will test one's eyes probably as much as Apple's scaling algorithms so the tradeoff for greater screen real-estate may turn out not to be as bad as we'd think. All I need is a MBP Retina Display and SwitchResX to find out...

  • Screen Real Estate not being used

    Hi
Dont know if this is software or hardware question - I just got a new bigger monitor for my Powermac. Display resolution is now 1600x1200.
Problem is whenever I put a new item onto the desktop, it stacks on top of another item thats already there (the one in the bottom right corner), even though I have over half of the desktop space empty!
Not a huge huge deal but just thnking it must be a simple fix!?

  • E71 - Theme and screen real estate on Standby-Page

While the screen of the E71 is not massive, it is my impression that the built in themes (and the ones I have seen) waste a lot of screen real estate. Specifically I mean the area on the Standby-Page under the clock. Its empty. It can't be configured and I have not seen an app for it.
Can someone shed light into this?

  • 15" v 17" screen real estate

has anyone used for a extended period, a 15" and 17" hd mbp. I have a 17" and for numerous reasons am probably downgrading to a 15" unless i get very big reasons not to. any one have any thoughts on the topic?

If you are still considering the 17" hi-res (which I assume you mean by 'hd'), you'll want to try and see one in person first. 1920X1200 is _a lot_ of desktop real estate, but conversely, the display is only 17" - meaning the pixels are small, and the resulting small text elements of the UI are difficult for some people to read.
I have the 17" standard res, and prefer the additional area over the 15". I don't find the 17" to be more difficult to carry than the 15" - IMHO, neither is really all that portable (compared to something like my wife's 12" G4 PB, for example).

  • Wasted Screen real estate for toolbars

    Firefox 4.0b.11 -
How do I adjust the positioning of the toolbars. I currently have them at default view, in that I have the "titile bar" on the top, then the main menu bar underneath that, and then the URL bar that also has a few add-ons at the far end. Then below that is the bookmarks bar..
My problem is that I would like to put either the title bar next to the main menu bar.. not underneath it (or visa versa), as there is about 3/4" of blank space (you can actually see my pc desktop) between the title bar and URL bar... How can I reduce this wasted space??? TIA<

Yes that may free up some space, but it creates a new issue by making me have to take an additional steps to access the menu items... Alt Alt Alt...not satisfactory.
From my perspective and for ease of use I would prefer having the "options" of doing ALL the following:
    (1) resize the address bar/nav window, (2) delete the Google window and then being able to (3) Move the menu to the same bar as the address bar/nav window. (4) arrange all items including the Home Button to a position on the nav bar which is most comfortable for my use
If this is possible and someone can tell me how to do it, I will kiss the ground you walk on...

  • Maximize MBP- ALS, screen real-estate...

    Hey there,
i've been trying to figure out a couple tricks for my new toy. i would like to see if i can run a couple things that i've seen within you tube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySLSos33QLc
    the cube-spin mainly
also interested what other people think about parallel or boot camp.
also the slapbook features. i've heard that you can do something with waving your hand over the ALS as well, located in the speakers.

The "cube spin" is VirtueDesktops, usually on

But the site seems down at the moment ... (can upload or send the installer it's only 2.6MB)
SlapBook Pro uses the motion sensor not the light sensor.

  • Thread related to real estate .. hope it can b answered

guys, excuse me but i couldn't find forums for real estate .. so , am gonna post a thread here and i hope it can be answered.
when i'm creating a contract (term tab) there r 2 fields i dunno why would they differ from each others . therse 2 fields are CASH FLOW FROM & FIRST POSTING FROM .
isn't it necessary to have the first posting date identical to the cash flow starting date ?!!

    Hi Pramod,
The reference time characteristic is always the time characteristic
with the smallest granularity, in your case 0CALDAY. You should delete
0CALDAY from the time dimension and you can choose another time
    characteristic for reference.
You can only change the InfoObjects in the time dimension of the cube
    if there is no data.
You can also fill the 0CALDAY character in the start routine. You must
insert 0CALDAY as an infoObject in the communication structure and then
you can calculate the value of 0CALDAY in the start routine of update
    rules.
Another way is that you calculate the value of 0CALDAY in the
transfer rules. For this option you don't need a start routine but also
need the InfoObject 0CALDAY in the communication structure.
    Hope this helps.
    Rgds,
    Colum

When I click on a picture or map in i.e. Kijiji real estate pages, Firefox opens it all crunched to the right side of the page. How can I correct this?
For instance I view an apartment ad which has various pictures attached. It says click on the pictures to see an enlarged version. FF opens the page however most of the page is blank and the picture appears to be pushed to the right side of the page and shows as if it has been scrunched agains the right side not showing the whole picture.
What Can I do to correct this?

I see that you have increased some font sizes considerably.
    * font.size.fixed.x-western: 20
    * font.size.variable.x-western: 22
This can effect margins when the website specifies these as em values and cause content to shift.
If you have made changes to Advanced font settings like increasing the minimum/default font size then try the default minimum setting "none" and the default font size 16 in case the current setting is causing problems.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size (none)
Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own fonts.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced: [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"
It is better not to increase the minimum font size, but to use an extension to set the default page zoom to prevent issues with text not being displayed properly.
You can use the NoSquint extension to set font size (text/page zoom) and text color on web pages.
    *NoSquint: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/nosquint/
Note that your System Details List shows multiple Flash plugins.
    * Shockwave Flash 16.0 r0
    *Shockwave Flash 12.0 r0
You can find the installation path of all plugins on the <b>about:plugins</b> page.
You can check the Flash player installation folder for multiple Flash player plugins and remove older version(s) of the plugin (NPSWF32) and possibly (re)install the latest Flash player.
    *(32 bit Windows) C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\
    *(64 bit Windows) C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\
Your System Details list shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.
You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: Open with) if you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
You can delete this user.js and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

  • How do you create a custom search result for surrounding suburbs for a real estate website?

I have a Web App for property listings for a real estate website. There are item fields as follows:
    Suburb List:
    Edensor Park
    Hoxton Park
    Denham Court
    Cecil Hills
    Abbotsbury
    Surrounding Suburb List:
    Edensor Park
    Hoxton Park
    Denham Court
    Cecil Hills
    Abbotsbury
Say a property is listed in Edensor Park as the main suburb and Hoxton Park and Denham Court are also selected as its surrounding suburbs.
On the website's search form, the visitor selects, for example, Edensor Park. I need the search results to show everything listed in Edensor Park as well as in the surrounding suburbs of Hoxton Park and Denham Court. Is this at all possible?
    Thanks,
    Veronica.

The Filter settings are sticky.  Every container listed on the Library tab of the Inspector keeps it's own Filter settings, set to whatever was last used.
I'm not aware of any way to set a default Filter.
You could create a Folder and put a Smart Album in that Folder with "Source" set to the Folder.  Any Albums or Projects you put in the Folder become the superset for the Filter you set in the Smart Album.  This is a pretty sophisticated set-up, however.  What is the filter you need, and how often do you need it?

Do you see the "Attach Files" button in between the "Preview" and "Post Message" buttons when posting a question or reply?
This is how you would attach an image, you can't embed it into the text here.  Also,  I thought that the "Attach Files" functionality had been removed for performance reasons, but you can try it if you see the button.
