How? Rediscover Magic Mouse following battery replacement?

Every time I replace batteries in my Magic Mouse I've had to access System Preferences | Mouse to activate the "rediscovery" process.  Fortunately, I have a USB mouse that allows me to open, and then navigate, System Preferences.
Shouldn't my iMac automatically find the Magic Mouse?

Yes.

Clicking the mouse repetitively usually works.  I would also make the mouse a favorite.

  • What is the best battery for the magic mouse? I replace every month

What is the best batteries to use with the Magic Mouse? I am changing mine every month, I purchased the IMAC in April this year.

Good choice...even if that do not last as long as Apple claims (like any batteris DO ) you have a set charged and ready to go...no trip to the store for batteries at 2:00 AM.  And far be it for me to advocate doing thie, any rechargeable batteries of the same specs will work with the Apple charger...they don't have to be the shiney silver batteries

  • Magic Mouse and battery life....

Well, today my Magic Mouse died...had to replace batteries. So I didn't get 3 weeks out of the original batteries....I received it on October 28...if this keeps up, I can see where the mouse will go on craigslist....very disappointed. Anyone else have to replace batteries already? I don't physically turn it off; the mighty mouse would automatically power down after period of no use....i'll try to power it off everytime I'm going to stop using it for awhile but there's no way this will work for me.....

Actually, the Magic Mouse is only for wireless keyboards and the extended keyboard is only available wired.
That's rubbish. I have a WIRED extended keyboard and a Magic Mouse. Which keyboard you use has absolutely nothing to do with which mouse you use.
Rechargable batteries have a lifespan and eventually end up in the waste stream like other batteries
After hundreds of uses. So instead of sending hundreds of batteries to the waste, you're only sending one. How can that not be better for the environment?
they don't have the power or charge life of a precharged disposable
As long as they have enough power to power the thing they're powering, what does it matter? And if they don't last as long (which is also bogus, just buy higher mAh ones) what does that matter? You just recharge them. Anybody who knows anything about environmental waste will tell you rechargeable batteries are better.
What would be the reason not to have a wired version Magic Mouse and what would be the reason not to have a wireless extended keyboard?
Once again - there is absolutely NOTHING stopping you from having both a wireless Magic Mouse and a wired extended keyboard.

  • Magic Mouse - excessive battery drain

I love the design and the flexibility of the new Magic Mouse! It's a next generation mouse!
However, I would really like a wired version. The battery life is not acceptable for me. I am a heavy user (up to 16 hrs a day) and it works only up to two weeks if I don't turn it off/on all the time. I don't want just another thing to worry about. Also, it's too heavy because of batteries inside... and the side buttons should be there, they'll fit in the design nicely...
Also, The Better Touch tool and similar utilities should be in the OS by default. Ahh.. I guess I'll be back on my good old wired Mighty Mouse after all the excitement...
Any advice on what batteries to use? Is there some third-party kit to convert Magic Mouse into the normal wired mouse?

Here's 48 batteries for $8.54. I think that should keep you going for awhile.

I've had mine for 3 weeks exactly and my mouse is at 55%. Then again I'm only on a couple of hours a day. 16 hours a day is more then I might be on in a week. In my G5 I used a Microsoft mouse that had a cradle. I loved it but I love this one more. I understand your pain but I can't imagine Apple ever thought anyone would use this mouse for 16 hours a day.I agree a cradle would be a great idea but Apple is into simplicity not a cradle with a wire ruining the esthetic look of the new iMac.

  • Magic mouse 0% battery level - But batteries are new!

I just received my Magic Mouse today. It paired fine, connected fine and worked fine until I downloaded the software. Then the tracking became extremely slow and jerky. Tthe worst part is that the Battery level says 0% and I keep getting a pop-up window telling me the battery level is low - But I'm using brand new batteries??? I even tried several sets.
Can anyone help? I'm on a Mac Pro with Leopard.

    Hello t:
Try trashing a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and restarting. Then delete the mouse, restart, and then add it back in.

  • Magic Mouse - New Battery fail

My Magic Mouse was down to 5% so I changed the batterys. However, since I have done that and put fresh one's in the green light is not coming on on the Mouse and thus not working.
I have used fresh battery's from 2 different packs.
    Any ideas?

    Are the batteries in backwards?

  • Magic Mouse Heavy Battery Use.

Hello. I seem to be getting poor battery performance from my Apple Magic Mouse.
Last couple times have been about 1 month each--doesnt seem that good to me and a bit of a pain. Any comments? Maybe I should be turning it off at night? Thanks for any info.

Another good idea is to set your computer to sleep after a certain amount of time. If your computer is on constantly, your bluetooth mouse/keyboard will be on as well. If your computer goes to sleep after 15 minutes, or an hour, or whatever works the best for you, you'll conserve battery life.
My computer sleeps after a half hour of inactivity, and I get a couple of months of battery life on my keyboard and magic mouse.
I do have an apple battery charger, which is convenient, but any rechargeable batteries work fine.

  • Magic Mouse leaked battery fluid

    Hello,
I have a Magic Mouse, bought with my MacBook Pro in February 2011. I didn't used the mouse so often and the battery charge was on 90% when I last used it.
Today I saw that the battery leaked and the mouse is full of something like white powder. I never changed the batteries, I just used the original delivered Energizer.
I always turned off the mouse when it wasn't in use.
My question is, can I send the mouse to the repair center and get a new one for free? I also can't check the serial number online.

    Hello:
The short answer to your question is no.  The mouse is out of warranty and it is your responsibility to assure that batteries are reasonably fresh.

  • Magic mouse rails need replacing

Can you get replacement parts for the magic mouse black raild which are found on the bottom of the mouse ?
I have two magic mouses and they are both now playing up which I think is due to the fact that they are both starting to wear on the bottoms ?

Theoretically they can be replaced, but it involves dismantling the mouse which is glued together and voiding the warranty

  • How uninstall Magic Mouse software? due Wacom installer conflict?

I am quite happy with my Magic Mouse but I am 90% certain it is causing the latest Wacom update installer to fail.
I have three OS partitions on my Mac Pro:
    1. Main boot drive: Installed magic mouse....OK, then installed latest Wacom update....failed.
    2. Clone of main boot drive: Installed Wacom update...OK, then installed magic mouse...OK, both working.
    3. Utilities OS: Installed wacom update....OK, then installed magic mouse....OK, both working.
So any help uninstalling the magic mouse mouse software so I can put the wacom update on, then reinstall magic mouse, would be very welcome.
    Thanks

    HI Mike,
Try repairing disk permissions and then try the Wacom software install.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
Something I learned years ago with Wacom and Apple mice. Keep the tablet and pen away from the mouse. If I try to use the pen within a foot of the mouse, the entire system freezes. There's definitely a conflict between tablet software and wireless devices. Not sure if that's a help to you or not...
Also, when trying to install the Wacom software, turn the mouse off. See if you can get the Wacom software installed that way.
And if you installed the Magic Mouse update here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL950
Open System Preferences / Software Updates - Installed Software. If that update is listed there, delete it. It might be the culprit easy enough to reinstall.

  • Magic Mouse Dead?

Just bought a magic mouse 30 days ago and it died with the batteries it came with today. Replaced the batteries with fresh ones but no green light. It remains off.
Ideas? Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks, Frank

I got this answer from someone else and it worked for me.  Please update us if it works for you.
"A posting within a discussion board that is located on a different site suggested that the interior end of the Magic Mouse's battery cavity can occassionally oxidize, which requires said ends to be carefully 'scraped clean.' I checked into that possibility and found no such oxidization. But there was a tiny bit of dust on both of the surfaces to which the top of the batteries make contact (not the pins, which the bottom of the batteries connect with). I cleaned that little bit of dust off with a cotton swab which had first been moistened with a disinfectant wipe, then reinserted the batteries and the cover plate, and then turned the mouse on. Violà! Everything works fine now!"

  • Can my Ipad 3 have a battery replacement outside the country?

My Ipad 3 has a battery weared. It turns off when the battery drops to 80%. I plan go to Apple Store to have a battery replacement. But i purchased my Ipad in US and now I am in France. Is it possible to have this kind of replacement?
P/S: My Ipad is out of warranty 1 month ago

The fact that you bought it in the U.S. should not make any difference at all. I'm not so sure that they can replace your battery in an Apple Store, typically you have to send the device to Apple in order to have the battery replaced. You are supposed to contact them via the link here.

Will the data on my iPad be preserved?
No, during the service process all data on your iPad will be erased. Before obtaining service, it is important to back up your data using iCloud or iTunes. Apple is not responsible for the loss of information while servicing your iPad and does not offer any data transfer service.
Following service your replacement iPad may have a newer operating system (iOS) version and you will need torestore your data using the method used to back it up (iCloud or iTunes). As a result, you may also need to update your App Store applications to ensure compatibility with the newer iOS. If you experience a problem with an application purchased from the App Store, check iTunes to see if an update is available or contact the application vendor directly.

How long will it take to receive my replacement iPad?
If you arrange service through Apple, you can expect service to be completed within approximately five business days from the time you send your iPad to Apple.

  • Magic mouse under Windows

How does magic mouse work under Windows? It seems left click and right click work...however, zoom and roll do not work.

Always keep an eye on 'More like this', the column to the right of your initial post.    You will often find answers and direct leads to your questions there.

  • Using Aperture with a Magic Mouse

Is anyone else having issues using a Magic Mouse while editing photos? Somehow I'm accidentally activating the swipe motion which causes me to scroll through my library while editing. I've tried turning off swipe motions, which works in Finder, but Aperture still swipes.

I too am not enjoying at all how the Magic Mouse functions in Aperture. All too often just touching the mouse to do an aperture specific task, the mouse misinterprets the touch as a go to start scrolling through my large libraries. Then I have to get back to the right image (usually one I am editing) and be extremely careful with how I touch the mouse. This is not only aggravating but also a BIG waste of time -- two things that Apple has always (and should always) avoid. There was no issue with this with my old Mighty Mouse as the "ball" was very unlikely to be triggered accidentally and start the application scrolling through the images. On the other hand, I will most certainly NOT miss the balls propensity to "crud up". Hopefully this new purchase does not involve a Sophie's Choice - constantly cleaning the mouse or constantly having to get back to the image you were working on. Apple should be shooting for the best of both worlds.
On the other hand the MM is great when I'm working many other applications. I strongly agree with the previous comment that the MM control panel should have an application specific tab. That way I could disable the scroll feature when working in Aperture. Another alternative might be the ability to narrow down the "active" part of the mouse surface to minimize the chances of inadvertently activating the scroll feature.
I really hope there is a fix for this as I am frustrated enough that the MM is about to head to the drawer and I'll either go back to my Mighty Mouse or more likely a 3rd party traditional interface but blue tooth mouse.
    Cheers
