How remove embedded font from PDF

When I print to PDF on Mac OS 10.6.8 by default embed fonts to PDF-file. It add unnecessary bites to PDF-file (the file is huge size).
How to remove this option of fonts embedding? Or how remove embedded font from PDF file?

After opening dozens and dozens of linked files,I finally found the offending "empty line of text" in one of the AI files I placed in the INDD file. Open > Select All.... then check the font panel. With mixed fonts, it was empty, but if everything was the correct font, it was filled in. It was just one AI file.
I want to thank you all for your great ideas and for sharing your experience. Onward, now.

  • Remove Bogus Font from PDF?

    I create the quarterly PDF of Hinduism Today magazine, on Macs, in InDesign, individual articles are exported to PDF as spreads and assembled in Acrobat to produce a single PDF of the entire magazine: nothing new there...
    Now, my final PDF is showing a "rogue" copy of a font we tinkered with ourselves "
    "RelatoD,Bold"  as TrueType, but not embedded;
    we have others "RelatoD-Bold"   all of which are embedded
    If I open all the source PDF (individual articles) all versions of RelatoD-Bold appear as embedded and I cannot spot the document containing "RelatoD,Bold"
    My outside shop Mac beta testers say the PDF works perfectly. Acrobat reader on Mac is forgiving. I don't think the font is even in use.  But Windows users are getting an ugly font cannot be found or created message. If they dismiss that dialog, the PDF opens and appears fine. There is not a single instance of the "rogue" font showing any visible change in the PDF document.
    Obviously I need to track this down, but our production schedule is running behind. Is there way I can simply "zap"  delete the rogue font in Acrobat Professional? In the PDF? I don't think we will see a single problem in the document. This seems to be some kind of font "artifact/gremlin" that was introduced, but we don't know how, or from where... and the R & D to track it down is going be "painful" and time consuming.

    Larry, excellent, thanks for reminding me of that option. We have done that before when the document starts to show signs of "wierdness" and looks like it is about to explode (smile) export .inx and rebuild before you lose it completely.
    The challenge will be : which document from all the articles carries the rogue font? I have no way to analyze it.
    hmm. I guess I could boot Parallels and then open each individual PDF (made from individual articles) until I found it.
    Meanwhile, I was overly jubilant yesterday. After I ran the PDF thru PDF optimizer, looking at Document Properties I did not see the roque font, I thought Ah ha! Solved! I then pushed an update to our web server, sent the URL to Windows beta test group  and by the afternoon they were telling me the PDF *still* threw the warning dialog about missing font.
    At our staff meeting (we are mac fanatics here) we thought not a big deal, in the Windows world users are faced with nasty dialogs all the time, I won't have time to go solve this before we go live. Our only regret is being unable to program the dialog box to say "Sorry cannot find or create RelatoD-Bold. It works on Apple. Get a Mac!"

  • Extract embedded xml from PDF/A-3b (also creation)

    Hello there,
    in the context of a research project, we are currently trying to extract embedded xml from a PDF/A-3b document via code.
    The project deals with establishing a new invoicing standard (Zugferd: ferd-net.de, only german). Invoices are expressed via xml, which is embedded in PDF/A.
    What we are trying to archive is extraction of the xml via java code. For testing purposes, we are currently using an third party skd to extract the invoice-xml, by calling a .EXE file and then picking up the results in java.
    I currently have only one valid example file that can be processed via this sdk. To get more data, i used the test version of acrobat pro to alter the embedded xml file. To be more specific, i deleted the embedded file, added a new xml file, and used preflight to make the PDF conform to /A-3b. Although the file seems to have the same properties as the original, it can no more be processed via the extraction sdk. Since messing around with acrobat does not seem to get me anywhere, i am now looking into extracting data from the pdf my self.
    Is there any present implementation/library/solution for extracting data in a java context? The few third party tools i found are all based of a .net/windows native environment. I have heard rumors about Adobe giving out tools to extract embedded data from PDF/A?
    How is it the other way around? Is it possible to embedd xml into a PDF via Java? Given there allready is PDF file which we can attach to.
    I really appreciate reading and thanks for any help or input!
    Greetings,
    Florian

    Hi Florian,
    I would look for general purpose PDF libraries that can open a PDF and access data objects in it.
    All in all it is not too difficult to get to the embedded XML, once you have a library that can access and read data structures/data objects inside a PDF file. Some understanding of the inner workings of PDF data structures will help you get the job done (e.g. read the section about embedded files in the PDF standard / ISO 32000-1, as well as the chapter about PDF syntax).

  • How do I export from PDF to PPT so that shapes created in Illustrator are editable

    How do I export from PDF to PPT so that shapes created in Illustrator are editable, not just text on top of them? I used the Acrobat XL Pro technique described here (http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/pdf-to-powerpoint-pptx-converter.html), to export a graphic I had created in Illustrator and saved as an Adobe PDF file, but shapes are not editable and are fuzzy too. Is there a way to export a complete Illustrator graphic to PowerPoint?

    Thanks Bill. Of course I realize I can insert an Illustrator drawing into a PPT without making it a PDF first. What I’m trying to do is insert a drawing from Illustrator that is still editable in PPT (a client request). Using the Acrobat XL Pro capability shown in this video <http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/pdf-to-powerpoint-pptx-converter.html> , only the text is editable in PPT, not shapes created in Illustrator.

  • How do I convert from PDF to Word step by step instructions needed..am practically computer illiterate

    How do I convert from PDF to Word step by step instructions needed..am practically computer illiterate@

    Ok, fine. That isn't Acrobat, and that's why our instructions weren't much use. (But it's worth saying "I didn't have that option" rather than "it's not converting", we could end up wasting a lot of your time with the wrong stuff!)
    Anyway, the free Adobe Reader can't do this conversion without a subscription called either ExportPDF or PDF Pack. You may have had one in the past. Are you still paying for one?

  • How to get data from PDF form?

    PDF forms can send data in url like GET or POST method. Is it possible to get data from url, like in PHP http://sever/file.php?item1=value1&item2=value2&item3=value3
    In APEX url have specific construction and I don't know how to get value of items (1...3)
    Please let me help to find simple method of geting data from URL.
    Best Regards,
    Mark

    The APEX URL syntax is detailed here
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14373_01/appdev.32/e11838/concept.htm#BCEDJBEH
    How to get it from PDF is another matter...
    I'm working on an app that downloads PDFs with a Large amount of data as a blob, takes that blob and changes it to XML, then goes through the xml to validate each section of data and then add it into the schema that my apex app is referencing....
    I didn't write the original code but I do know that it isn't a quick thing to implement and includes using some uploading some java jar files to your schema and writing some custom java code.
    Someone else may be able to help with grabbing PDF data into the URL for the amounts of data you want to pass to apex.

                   document.add(new Paragraph("Hi Everbody....!"));
                   Anchor pdfRef = new Anchor("Click Me");
                   pdfRef.setReference("www.java2s.com");
                   Anchor rtfRef = new Anchor("Touch Me");
                   rtfRef.setReference("www.sun.com");
                   System.out.println(rtfRef.reference());
                   document.add(pdfRef);
                   document.add(Chunk.NEWLINE);
                   document.add(rtfRef);
              } catch (DocumentException de) {
                   System.err.println(de.getMessage());
              } catch (IOException ioe) {
                   System.err.println(ioe.getMessage());
              document.close();
    Help me how to read the Hyperlinks from the PDF file using java ...
    Thanks in advance,
    With Regards,
    J.Imran

    Instead of cross-posting unformatted code you could have taken a look at the API, because there you might have come across a method named getLinks...Even though it's not documented, I really suspect that it will return the Hyperlinks on a given page.

    How to create "convert from PDF to Word?"

    Good day,
    To use the ExportPDF service, simply visit http://exportpdf.acrobat.com and click 'Sign in' at the top right corner.  Enter your Adobe ID (email address) credentials to log into the service.  As ExportPDF is web-based, you simply utilize the tool through your web browser.  After you're logged in, you should see the ExportPDF interface, with a button saying 'Select PDF file..' to get the process started.
    Please let us know if you have any questions.
    Kind regards,

  • Remove an embeded font from a PDF

    Hi Guys
    I have a bunch of PDF's where I need to remove a sertant font due to Copyright reason.
    When I use the PDF optimizer and unembed the font, it replaces the font with another all over the PDF, but when I open the optimized PDF and check the properties, it still says that the font is
    embeded.
    How can I completly remove the embeded font? and is there a way, where I can choose the substitude font?
    Another solution would offcourse be, to transform all the text to pictures, but the quality is simply to bad to use.
    I am using Adobe Pro IX for Windows 8.1 (64 bit)

    Why do you think it's still embedded?
    It will appear on the File Properties > Fonts list because it's defined as the typeface to use in preference when rending the file, but unless the entry says it's embedded, it's only a reference to the name.

  • Save as PDF Files too large, Remove Embedded Fonts/Compress Fonts

    When I create PDF's using "Save as PDF" in Mac OS X, the file sizes are much larger than is acceptable for my application. For example, a recent PDF I created ended up at 1.7 MB and I need it to be around 150 kB.
    When I open the file in Acrobat Pro 6.0 and audit the file, I see that 94% of the file size is taken up by embedded fonts. I can then Optimize PDF with Acrobat Pro and remove the embedded fonts. The file size drops to around 145 kB.
    Is there any way to NOT embed fonts when creating PDF's with Mac OS X? Also, is there any way to compress with Mac OS X in a manner similar to Acrobat Pro?

    Hi LD,
    I don't think so that this is possible.
    I have the same problem to ... even when I open a existing PDF file that I downloaded from the net. It was 150 Kb an after I work in it to make same changes I save it an turns up to be 2 to 3 Mb or sometimes even more ...
    I open de PDF than in Acrobat pro and remove everything I don't want ... I select in Acrobat Pro an select 'optimise PDF'

  • How do I remove a font from FM 9

    How can I remove a specific font from FM 9?  I've looked in the system fonts and the font (Adobe Garamond) is not available there.  The problem is when we open up some of our reports this font gets used instead of plain Garamond. While working in Frame this is not a problem but when we go to save the report as PDF the Adboe Garamond sections look horrid.
    So is it possible to remove the Adobe Garamond font and always have plain Garamond used?
    Thanks,
    Brenden

    Fonts can come from a variety of places; first off, could you tell us what printer you have as the Windows' system default printer when you create PDFs.  The best results for creating PDFS come from having it set to "Adobe PDF", so test with that and see what you get.
    Some printers have fonts built into them, so if you have, say, a "Lexmark xxx" printer as the default then the fonts could be from the printer itself.
    Second, look at the settings in Distiller, in the menu Font Locations.
    Third, there's a setting in Distiller fonts dialog about ignoring truetype,  let us know what you have set there.
    Also, it's always a good idea to specify the exact FM version (from Help > About, the "pxxx" numbers) when you post on the forum, in case you haven't updated and there happens to be an issue that is solved by an update.
