How search a folder using a partial name

Hi all........ I'm VERY confused.
Probably I' the last who writes this question but......
I have a customer: in a folder on the server ( Leopard version) it stores MANY folders; these folders are called with the name of one of it's customers and a code that is connected to a specific job.
For example one folder is called 134927-WineBar shop
Another is called 134935-Marina Shoes shop
In Tiger, with the folder containing all this folders open, was so simple to find a specific item: just type a part of the code and that's it!
In Leopard I cannot do the same action: I cannot say, to my search, to point in the folder I'm working on it and easily find the name of a folder.
Any suggestion?

you should be able to do it in leopard too.
in your example enter "WineBar" in the search window. it will start a search with default location "this mac". change "this mac" to "Shared" or the name of the folder you are in on the server and it should find 134927-WineBar shop on the server. works for me.

Each object must be uniquely identified. So you cannot do this:

I'm not sure about special chars such as ":" but ifyou need to have your folders displaying special language chars (like german chars), have a look into the below link.

Searching CD folder using Applet

Hi guys,
the goal is to write a simple search engine that will search a folder on CD which will be containing html and pdf files.
the GUI for this search tool should be an html page with a text box and search button.
when i hit search the code should search all files within CD folder and return pages that contains the word entered in text box.
can we implement this using an Applet ?
if yes will the applet be able to pass text box word to my java program (probably using parameters) ?
the important thing : i need to display results as links on the same html page .is this possible?
please i need your advice on the best way to implement this ?

Yes, that is security problem.
Apllet can't get access to any local resource.
To solve that problem you must sign applet or edit "local" policy file.

Search emailids by alias or partial names

Any ideas on using javamail API to get valid emailids based on alias names?
I have a list of " last name, first name" I can simply do a ctrl+k, outlook address book will let me know if there is a valid email or not. since my list is really huge, i cant go manual.

JavaMail doesn't have any support for "address books". You're on
your own for this.

Searching Network Folder Finds Nothing

I just upgraded to a new MacBook (10.5.6) from an ibook (10.3.9). When I connect to a Network folder, I can access all files in the network folder, but when I try to search for files on the network folder, I get no results. I have no trouble searching for files on my machine. Even when I am searching for a specific file name that I know is on the network folder, it doesn't show up in the search results.
Any help is appreciated.

I seem to have full permissions. I can read, write, you name. My only problem is with searching. If I look in Finder, I see all of the files in the network folder. But, if I try to search that folder, using either Spotlight or Command-F, I get no results. I understand that maybe Spotlight only looks on my machine, but when I use Command-F, it gives me the option to select the network folder for searching. It just doesn't give any results.
For example, I make a file called test.docx and put it on the network folder "New Documents". I can see that file using Finder on "New Documents" but if I were to try Command-F, select "New Documents" to search under, select "Name" "Matches" and type "test" no results are returned.
As you can imagine, this is driving me crazy, because as a practice in my office, we save all of our files to this network folder.

Windows 8.1 PC, using reader, when searching a folder containing approx 100 doc's. If i search for a word, no results are returned. only the doc names can be found but nothing from within the doc. This is a new problem and was not the case before.

Im a long time PC user that LOVED how Picasa automatically indexed any locations that I told it to keep track of. I just got Aperture - but so far I am utterly disappointed in the search function.
When I used to import all of my photos the folder that each import would go under would be the events title.
For instance if I shot a wedding I would name the folder "John Smith" because in picasa I could just search for "Smith" and it would have all of the files in that folder as results - regardless of their metadata.
So here I am with a 2 week old Macbook that I love - but I cant find any of the photos that I want to find.
My library has roughly 40K images - so without the ability to search by folder names it takes me forever to find the files I am looking for.
*Surely I am an idiot and just dont know how to search by folder name - can someone enlighten me?*
Also - is it possible for Aperture to monitor certain folders for changes - for instance if I save something to my library folder from photoshop - do I then have to import that one file I just saved? Picasa would just display it under the folder its in - is there any programs for Macs that behave like this?

aperture can indeed search on the project title. a little harder to find in the filter dialog, but it is there.
but again, you'll have to import your data differently than i think you did the first time.
i'm sorry that you're not happy with Aperture doing what you want, but then again, you're upset because it doesn't work with you're old folder structure. Not every application can be expected to be designed for every possible methodology that someone used to manage their existing data. It was set up to be used more visually than your old method and if you can't take the time to organize your photos when you import them to Aperture, then you're right, it probably isn't for you.
i would suggest you watch the tutorial on searching to see all of the additional metadata you can search by, maybe it would help in some way.... but if not, good luck with LR

Set file name as a variable. Then use it to name a folder

I'm making a workflow that I want to get the selected file, then create a new folder using that file's name. I made a workflow as follows:
Get selected Finder Item (In this case a JPG image)
Set Value of Variable
New Folder (dragging the variable from 'Set Value of Variable')
But running this workflow it adds the path of the file to the new folders name, as well as the file's name (e.g. instead of the folder being called 'Photo1' it's called '/Users/Jono/Desktop/Photo1.jpg').
Does anybody know how I could get it to just the file name (preferably without the extension) instead of prefixing it with the path?

Client unable to search partial names after internal web F5 VIP placed

I am running a dual pool set up, all 2013 EE on 2012 R2.
So, the other day I finally got access to a hardware load balancing solution. Not wanting a full conversion and to keep SIP flowing through DNS, I opted for balancing the internal web services. There is a separate administrator that handles F5;
thus, I am F5 knowledge deficient.
After having the VIP set up, I placed it's FQDN in the Override FQDN field within the Lync Topology Builder, published the topology and re-ran set up on each server. Keep in mind, that for some reason the builder already had the Lync pool FQDN in the
External Web Services FQDN.
Having enabled this new logical route for Lync web services, I have run into a problem, users are unable to search partial names but inputting a full SIP address yields the result. All clients are forced to do Web Search Only and the GALInitialDownloadDelay
across the board is 0. HLB is set to allow 80, 8080, 443, and 4443. I know that 8080 and 4443 are for external VIPs but it's better to ask for more and need less than ask for less and need more.
I have a few areas I think I goofed on but I am not able to change "willy nilly."
-Do I need to reissue the server certificates to include the FQDN of the VIP that points to the F5? I was noticing a certificate error on my web checks after the change.
-Do I need to reroute the exchange connection, somehow, to point to the VIP instead of the pool address?
-Do I need to remove my internal pool name from the External Web Services FQDN, or is that normal? Ideally I believe I would just point EWSFQDN to my Reverse Proxy internal interface VIP, that would be set up soon-ish.
Clarification, links to articles, or personal experience is appreciated. I've read through most (if not all Schertz's articles), technet (maybe sentence I missed), the F5 documentation, and NextHop.
TL;DR - When I put an F5 VIP FQDN into the Internal Web Services FQDN, Lync clients can't search and websites receive certificate errors. I believe it is certificate related but am unsure.

If you changed the internal override address from the poolname.domain.com to internalweb.doamin.com (just an example) you would need to ensure that your certificate that is used on your front-end servers includes internalweb.domain.com. As you noted, you
will see a certificate error. For address book services, it all happens under the hood, so you won't get any prompts of errors on searching, it will simply fail in the background.
In terms of your other question. By default, topology builder will put your pool name into the external name field. You should change that to whatever name you are using to publish your Lync environment to the internet. You shouldn't use
the same name as your pool. Often times in Lync documentation you will find lyncrp.domain.com or lws.domain.com as the name.
