How should I divide the partitions on the Boot Camp

Hello,
I have a HD with 465GB. When installing the Boot Camp, how much memory should I give to Windows? Can I change the partitions later?
Thank you very much!

Hi Livia and welcome to Discussions,
how much disk space you assign to BootCamp Windows depends on a variety of things:
First: what Windows do you want to install, XP; Vista; Windows 7 ?
Second: what Windows programs do you intend to use ?
Third: how much disk space do the files/data of these programs need ?
As a basic guideline:
A Windows XP with the Service Pack 3 alone takes about 10GB of disk space plus some 'space to breathe' and you are at about 15GB.
Windows Vista and 7 needs about 3 times this space, so roughly 45GB.
Add to that the amount of disk space needed by the programs you wanna run plus the disk space the files/data you are working with need.
While it is possible to change/expand the Windows partition later, it is not something you want to do regularly.
Best solution to do the expand, is to use WinClone http://twocanoes.com/winclone/ which also can be used as a backup/image program for the Windows partition.
Read the FAQs of WinClone here http://www.twocanoes.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=515 which describe the process of expanding (scroll a bit down..).
Hope it helps
Stefan

I've tried safe mode but I dont understand what is happening. I tried pressing the power button on and off for several times and nothing happens, I'm always stuck on an apple logo and a spinning wheel. I dont know how to get to the Partition and the DiskUtility. The Apple Logo and the Progress Indicator will continue to spin and I have literally no idea what to do. i am in desperate need of help. help me pls

    Turn it off.
Start it up again and (at the sound of the chime) press and hold the command and the R keys, hold them down until Recovery loads. When it does you will select Disk Utility and you should be on the First Aid tab when it opens, if you are not please select it. Then select the partition (in the side bar, 2nd entry on the list, see picture).
Yours is probably called Macintosh HD.
Once you have selected it go to the lower righthand corner of the First Aid dialog and press Repair Disk.
This will take 10 minutes approximately. Post back when it is finished and tell me what it says.

  • How to create a service partition like the original from lenovo

hey their, i have installed windows 7 on my x200. afore i have cleaned up all partiton incl. the service partition. now my question: how can i create a service partiton with the same behaviors like the original one (access the partition via the thinkvantage button and so on). i hope, someone can help me.

You need a set of recovery disks to re-create the partition.
If you haven't burned them when you first got the machine, they can be purchased directly from Lenovo or other online sources.
    Hope this helps.

  • How can I uninstall Bootcamp and Recover the partition for the Mac HD

How can I uninstall Bootcamp and recover the partition for the IMac HD?

Boot into OSX.  Go back into the Bootcamp utility in the Utilities folder and re-run it.  It will give you the option to remove the Windows partition and make the OSX partition fill the whole drive again.  OSX will NOT be lost in the process.  No re-installing necessary.  Only takes a few minutes or less to complete.

Errors in the OLAP storage engine: An error occurred while processing the indexes for the partition of the measure group of the cube from the database.
I have dropped and recreated a fact table to refresh the data as the table is having identity columns. So not able to directly insert data. After that cube is throwing above error.
    Please suggest.

    Hi Md,
It hard to analyse the issue base on the limited information, Are there any error message on the log? Under C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSAS11.\OLAP\Log (this could be different for your server), there are 3 log files that are generated:
    msmdrrv.log
    FlightRecorderCurrent.trc
    FightRecorderBack.trc
The msmdrrv.log simply points to the other two logs. There might be some detail information for this error. Please provide us the detail information about it, so that we can make further analysis.

  • How do I remove partitions "PV2" and "Boot Camp"?

I tried installing Windows 7 in Boot Camp and lost power during install. I want to completely start over but have partitions "PV2" and "Boot Camp" that I can't seem to remove. I have tried to remove partitions in Disk Utility but everything is grayed out. Boot Camp Assistant says "The disk appears to have been partitioned by another utility and can't be removed."

When I boot to recovery (Command+R) it gives me four options: Restore with Time Machine Backup, Reinstall OS X, Get Help Online, and Disk Utility. I am assuming I should erase the drives usings Disk Utility. I am able to select the PV2 and Boot Camp but when I select the "partition" tab the +/- buttons on the bottom is grayed out. I am not sure how exactly to "erase the entire drive." If you couldn't tell, I am a novice imac owner. I did make a backup using Time Machine earlier today.

What is the error? Are you following the Bootcamp instructions? Where on the "internet" are you trying to install from? Did you try downloading from here http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/downloads/?

  • Osx disappeared after partition shrink in boot camp

i made a partition shrink in boot camp after that osx disappeared .i can see only win 7 " become corrupted copy " so i can not log into windows too..????!!
    "" i am a beginner ""

I could solve it by calling Apple Care.
    The solution:
    Turn off the machine.
Unplug any device except for a wired keyboard and a mouse. Note: My Logitech G150s Gaming Keyboard didn't work so I had to use an older Logitech diNovo Wireless Keyboard, which worked for me.
Start the machine again and let it boot into Internet Recovery by holding [CMD] + [ALT] + [R] until you see a spinning globe. Depending on your Internet speed it will take some time (I have a 10Mbit/s connection and it took about 10 minutes).
The system now starts the recovery mode. Check the Disk Utility to check your partitions. Afterwards choose "Install" and select a compatible partition to install OS X on. If you have a USB thumb drive, choose the Apple menu, select "Choose Start Volume" (or simular) and select your thumb drive to boot from it.

  • How much disk space is needed to run Boot Camp using Windows XP?

How much disk space is needed to run Boot Camp using Windows XP?

But you can't install XP if you have a new Mac.
Try running XP in a VM or aquire Windows 7 which is the only one supported now.
And you will need more like 60GB for Windows 7, so I would skip on 20GB just to be safe.
20G is a fine minimum for XP, I was not responding to any inquiry about Win 7.

  • I cannot partition drive for boot camp.

I am installing windows 7 professional and cannot get the partition to install. The HDD will not partition. Please help.

What happens when you try to partition the hard disk with Boot Camp Assistant? Where are getting the error: in Boot Camp Assistant or after starting the Windows installer?
Note that, if you are in the Windows installer, you have to format the "BOOTCAMP" partition in order to be able to install Windows. That's because Boot Camp Assistant formats the partition with FAT32, but Windows 7 requires a NTFS partition. In order to install Windows there, in the partitioning screen, choose "BOOTCAMP" and go to Advanced options > Format. Then, you will be able to install Windows 7 Professional

  • How to create a second partition on the harddisk?

    Hello To All Members!
I recently got some viruses on my laptop. So I had to use my recovery cd to recover my system.
Now the problem is that I asked me for the partition where are the files which are being extracted. I marked it to 30GB.
So, windows is working fine but my Rest of 50GB will not be shown.
I thought that the recovery cd will make a new second partition as well, but it did not. Now how to make some other partitions?
Second question related to first one is how much time i can use this recovery disk. I mean will the windows remain genuine?????
For the partition problem i dont know of some possible solutions cause i needed three partitions, 1st of 30GB(Windows Default) and other two of 25GB.
The Best Solution coming in my mind is to make any windows ME or 98 bootable cd and run fdisk to create the remaining partitions.
But it is makes some new questions in my mind. Do i have to use a recovery cd again? If yes than I will not use this process again cause it will ask for partition to extract files of windows and i will choose 30GB again.
And again it will remove additional partitions.
Please help me and clear the questions coming in my mind..

    Hi there,
do know for the UlltimateBootCD4Win? This from CD bootable WinXP-BartPEedition with additional tools gives you the ability to make such things like partitioning, backup or formatting your HDD.
It has many more applications which help you to maintain your system without booting your original OS.
So I think that this CD will solve your partitioning issues.
    Heres a link: www.ubcd4win.com/
Just try it and tell me your opinion.
Nice weekend and greetings from the sunny south ;)

  • How to put a recovery partition on the hard drive

How can I create a recovery partition on the hard drive of my laptop. I had to reinstall the whole system, and tried to use the HP recovery software they sent me but it quit when it was about three quarters the way finished. I had to use a copy of windows 8 to put the system back on my laptop. After I got it all straighten out, I updated it to windows 8.1 and it seems like the computer runs a lot faster with windows 8.1 on it. Now I need to find away to install a recovery partition on my hard drive.
    Thank You

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and/or product number of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue.
The above requested information can be found on the bottom of the computer or inside the battery compartment. Please do not include the serial number. Please enter the model/product information into HP's Online Consumer Support page and/or post it here for our review.
A Recover partition is something the factory places on the computer. It is an image of the factory installation and the software required to restore the computer to a factory like state using that image. You will not be able to create a Recovery partition on your computer unless you use the HP Recovery Discs to return the computer to a factory like state. Please note the HP Recovery Discs and the resulting HP Recovery partition will only contain an image of Windows 8 that cannot be updated to reflect the installation of Window 8.1.
My suggestion is to use the Windows "System Image Backup" utility to create an exact image of the Windows 8.1 partition as it currently is. If your computer developes an issue or you need to replace the hard drive, all you have to do is "restore" the image to the computer. You will need to use an external USB hard drive or other media to store the image. Please see Windows 8.1 Tip: Use System Image Backup for instructions on creating and storing a "Windows - System Image Backup."
