How should I install extra Perl modules?
I thinking about using Munin from Linpro (http://munin.projects.linpro.no/) to monitor my OCS-servers that are running on RedHat Advanced Server 2.1 (and soon-to-come RedHat Enterprise latest version), but this program needs a module called perl-Net-Server.
How should I install this? There is a perl-installation under the $ORACLE_HOME, but Munin will run as root. Will I mess up something in OCS if I just install the RPM package Munin recomends? (from the DAG archive http://dag.wieers.com/rpm/packages/perl-Net-Server/ )

Trouble installing the PERL modules for the ITunesU script
I am trying to install the modules specified in the PERL script. I get an error when trying to install which I think is a result of a problem with the MAC developer tools. This is the output that I get when trying to install the Digest::SHA module
Can someone please tell me how to fix this?

I installed the Developer tools from Apple's web site.
Thanks
DonnaI figured it out. I discovered that the developer tools weren't installed by default on the Darwin OS. I downloaded them from the Apple site, installed the dmg file and then installed the required Perl modules and then it worked beautifully.
The problem was that the modules couldn't make properly when being installed.

How should I install GRUB to dual-boot 2 distros on two diff hd drves?
Well, I actually have two questions. I'm using the FTP install CD and noticed I don't have the Install Kernel Option after Configure System. Does this mean that the kernel was installed when I did Configure System automatically? Or that it wants me to run make && make modules_install manually? I couldn't quite figure that one out.
Now as for my main question... I pretty much got through the install okay but am a bit paranoid about just saying Install Bootloader. I currently have Gentoo on another hard drive on my computer and don't want to wipe out GRUB on Gentoo.
If this helps, this is my partition scheme:
/dev/hda1 swap (for both Gentoo and Arch)
/dev/hda2 / for Gentoo
/dev/hdb1 /usr/portage for Gentoo
/dev/hdb2 / for arch
So how should I go about installing the boot loader? And I am assuming I would have to appropriately edit the lines of my grub.conf in Gentoo.... this is it currently...
title=Gentoo Linux 2.6.23-r3
# Partition where the kernel image (or operating system) is located
root (hd0,1)
kernel /boot/kernel-2.6.23-gentoo-r3 root=/dev/hda2
title=Gentoo Linux 2.6.23-r3 (rescue)
# Partition where the kernel image (or operating system) is located
root (hd0,1)
kernel /boot/kernel-2.6.23-gentoo-r3 root=/dev/hda2 init=/bin/bb
So would I just add
title=Arch Linux
root (hd1,1)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/hdb2 initrd /boot/kernel26.img
to my Gentoo's grub.conf? Or am I just completely off here? Then in addition to that what else would I have to do to get it to dual boot without overwriting my Gentoo's GRUB? I'm just afraid I'll mess it up.
PS: In Arch, all my hard drives are showing up as /dev/sda1, etc., not hda1, if that makes a difference. :-p I was like SCSI? *blinks* XDDDDD But that's normal, right? But I figured since it's Gentoo's GRUB I should use hd*
So woud I just choose to install GRUB for Arch on /dev/sdb2 then, the partition that it's on, since I'm planning on using Gentoo's bootloader, and then just edit gentoo's grub.conf file?

Basically right but you should add

initrd /boot/kernel26.img
Arch uses a newer library I forget the name, which identifies drives as sdX instead of hdX
Well, I got it working. Thanks! Turns out this is what I needed:
root (hd1,1)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sdb2 ro
initrd /boot/kernel26.img
I tried (sd1,1) and root=/dev/sdb2 at first but it barked at me for the (sd1,1), so I changed it back, and with root=/dev/sdb2 all seems to be well. Thanks! -

I just bought a new macbook 8g ram and 750g harddrive and want to be able to run windows 7 through bootcamp and parallels. How do I setup that up and install a single version of windows (want to be able to utilize heavy programs - photoshop, 3D modeling CAD etc. - by installing them once and being able to use them through parallels 7 or bootcamp)? Please let me know of anything that may red flag by doing this and clear concise instructions of which to do first/ settings for bootcamp and parallels
BootCamp is directly booting your computer into Windows for full hardware access and performance, just like a PC. It's free from Apple.
https://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
Virtual machine software (paid) like Parallels and VMFusion both can take the Bootcamped Windows and make a copy for use in OS X in a window at the same time as using OS X, but less performance. It's usualyl easiler to use.
A free virtual machine option is VirtualBox, but it might not have all the bells and whistles of the payware options above, but works just fine.
We can't provide detailed installation instructions, it's too much, you will have to read Apple's instructions and the manual for your virtual machine software.

How Should I Install iPhoto 4.0?
Hi,
I use Mac G4; run Mac OS X 10.4.11 - TIGER; have iPhoto 1.1.1. I just downloaded a free copy of iPhoto 4.0. Is iPhoto 4.0 a standalone application? Do I need to download upgrades to iPhoto 1.1.1 before I install iPhoto 4.0?
AngelThank you Niel for your prompt response to my issue.
I did not download iPhoto 1.1.1 from Apple, I already had it on a second hard disk and copied it to my main hard drive a few days ago. I did not use it before because I didn't have a digital camera until now. I don't have iLife on any of my hard disks.
I did download a free copy of iPhoto 4.0 just days after I installed iPhoto 1.1.1 on my main hard disk, and I don't
know if I need any other updates to to bring me up to speed before installing iPhoto 4.0. Should I just install iPhoto 4.0 and by doing so will it give me a standalone iPhoto 4.0 application?
Sincerely,
Angel -
How will have an option to create an icloud id
Hello there, vishal274.
The following Knowledge Base article provides a great FAQ that provides some great answers to some of the more common questions about iCloud, including yours:
Creating an iCloud account: Frequently Asked Questions
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4436
How do I sign up for iCloud?
You can sign up for iCloud on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5 or later, or through System Preferences on a Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.4 or later. Just follow the setup instructions for your iOS device or Mac.
You may need to verify the email address that you use for your Apple ID. See Frequently Asked Questions About Apple ID for more information.
I had a free Find My iPhone account. How do I sign up for iCloud?
Update the devices that you use with Find My iPhone to iOS 5 (iOS 6 recommended). When you're asked to enter an Apple ID during setup, enter the Apple ID you were using for Free Find My iPhone. Your account will be automatically updated to iCloud.
I had a MobileMe account. How do I sign up for iCloud?
To use your MobileMe account for iCloud, follow the iCloud setup instructions and enter your @me.com or @mac.com email address as your Apple ID. If you had an @me.com address, it will be reactivated for email when you sign up for iCloud. If you had an @mac.com address, it won't be reactivated for email, but you can set up a new @icloud.com email address to use with iCloud.
Important: You will need a verified email address associated with your @me.com or @mac.com Apple ID to set up iCloud. To add a verified email address, go to My Apple ID (appleid.apple.com), sign in with your @me.com or @mac.com email address, and add a valid email address to your account.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

Fail installing perl modules in new sparc server
Hi,
I'm trying to install the perl modules needed by my applications in a sparc server SunFire V210 with solaris 9 64bit. All the attempts fail because the interpreter is compiled with forte, this is the explanation i got. I found a solution in CPAN called perlgcc but it doesn't work it build a bad Makefile, the file has a lot of mistakes. Perl.com people tell me to change parameters in the makefiles and Config.pm but it's very hard to find the correct values, i'm not sure i fix the correct things.still it doesn't work.
I need an urgent solution it permits me to add modules without correction in the each makefile. I hope there is a standar procedure to solve it.
Thanks!Hi,
Here is your solution (I hope). I've being doing this this week and worked.
Look the stuff is connected with the compilers used to complie perl and as you see later other stuff on the sun. At the sun the stuff is compiled with sun compiler which is not provided on the solaris 8, 9 nor 10. Fortunately there is gcc installed on the sol10.

1. Logon as a root
2. Check your path and compare with

/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sfw:/usr/sfw/bin:/usr/sfw/lib:/usr/s fw/include:/opt/sfw:
/opt/sfw/bin:/opt/sfw/lib:/opt/sfw/include:/usr/ccs/bin:/usr /ccs/lib

if differs upto the last /usr/ccs/lib modify your profile file ( anthing ofter the last /usr/ccs/lib can be aded).
3. Check out the the comands
gcc --version<br />
perl -V
4. If everything upto this step is ok you can proceed
5. You may do the installation of the perl modules in two ways:
a.) with CPAN module - Internet connection MANDATORY
b.) with perl and downloaded tar.gz module
5.a) With CPAN module
5.a.1) Launch the command to configure the CPAN module
perl -MCPAN -e shell
you will be asked to give the answers inorder to configure CPAN
5.a.2) When you see cpan> prompt do the following:
o conf makepl_arg 'CC=gcc CCCDLFLAGS=-fPIC CCFLAGS=" " OPTIMIZE=" " LD=gcc' press return
5.a.3) Type "o conf commit" press return. You may install your modules now with the install command e.g. install HTML::Parser for example.
5.b.1) Download your modules from http://www.cpan.org to your server to /var/tmp/packed or whatever folder you want.
5.b.2) unzip then untar and cd into subfolder
5.b.3) type ./Makefile.PL -t 'CC=gcc CCCDLFLAGS=-fPIC CCFLAGS=" " OPTIMIZE=" " LD=gcc'
5.b.4) Type make install
6.) In both methods you have to check if the modules are installed by issuing the commnad:
perl -e 'use Your::Module' e.g.
perl -e 'use HTTP::Parser'
if no error message on the term you are ready
Rem. The differrences are in the flags used to compile and link with these two compilers sun cc and gnu cc. There are of course problems with 64bit values on sun64bit e.g. SPARC and Intel stuff cause Perl does not support real 64bit values yet. The Perl modules should use only floating point represetnation with around 53~bit precision. But this issue depends on the module creator not you if you do not want to do the remedy.
I hope it will help you
good luck -

Location of perl module?
howdy guys,
I'm installing insipid (a delicious clone) on my local webserver to try.
It's pretty straight forward, but needs a bunch of "extra" perl modules, most of which I used pacman to fetch. Except at least one. I get this error:
insipid wrote:Couldn't find the module "XML/Writer.pm"
what package contains Writer.pm?scrawler wrote:thanks. Still, if Writer.pm is already in an arch package, I would prefer to install it that way.
This seems to be a bit late for you, but it's in the AUR here.
Re the general topic of perl modules, I prefer to install everything I can with pacman, and with perl I've succeeded so far, either from the official repos, the AUR, or my own PKGBUILDs. If I ever find myself needing 100s of the things, though, I might have to go with the cpan stuff. -
I would like to be able to optimize my cc installation. I am using a 500 GB ssd card as my primary hard drive on a windows 8.1 machine with 32 gigs of memory. I have additional spinner hard drives in this machine. Everything is SATA 2 or 3. How should I install the product to best utilize my hardware assets (Program Installation Drive; Scratch Drive; Temporary storage drive etc.).
Barcode1 I would recommend you install the Adobe Creative applications included with your membership to your Primary hard drive which contains your operating system. For questions on how to optimize specific settings such as scratch disks I would recommend posting in the relevant point product forum. You can find a list of available forums at https://forums.adobe.com/welcome.
