How should I keep my battery while I am away?

I will be away from 34 days and I wanted to know the best way to keep my MacBook battery "new". I was not sure if I should keep it plugged in, unplugged with a full battery, unplugged dead, or any other way. Thanks for anyone's help!

Turn off the computer (complete shutdown.) You can leave it connected to the AC adapter or not. The latter will save a small amount of electricity.
For long term storage the battery should be discharged to about 40% of full capactiy.

my macbook is always vonnected to the ac,, i don't move it around"seldom"

should i keep the battery on when it is connected to the AC?
    or should i remove it?
    thanks in advance

    Hi multiple 1,
Modern battery technology now prevent battery becoming overcharged or create memory effect, so like First Magus said, it is ok to leave the battery in your macbook all the time.
But apple also recommend user to use their battery once a while or calibrate to refresh the battery cell.
    Good Luck.

  • How can I keep a photo image from fading away on my tv using apple tv.

How can I keep a photo image from fading away on my tv using apple tv?

Thanks for you reply.  When I paint, I bring up the photo as you suggested.  I begin painting.  After about 10 minutes or so, the photo goes blank.  And, I have to start the process over again to get that same photo.  It interrupts the painting process.  I think it goes blank due to a sleep function.  I have gone into the Apple TV settings and turned off the sleep function.  But, this does not seem to work.  What can I do to keep the image on the TV screen permanently?

You can get Mifi devices (the iPad connects to it via wifi and they then give access to 3G networks). I've never used one and I don't know if they are available in Canada (and if so how much they would cost). If you have an iPhone then you could also use that as a mobile hotspot

  • I usually use my laptop plugged in. How should I store my battery?

    Hi,
I just bought a new MacBook pro 13". I usually use my computer plugged in at home. I use it for work and use it this way all day and sometimes leave it on 24/7.
My concern is if I should keep the battery in place in the the laptop, or remove it? I ask because in my old PowerBook 12 inch I kept the battery in it and seldom used it. That battery seemed to die really fast, and after a couple years would only hold a charge for about 5 minutes.
Maybe that was just a problem with the battery in that model, but I wonder if it had anything to do with leaving it in the computer and not using it.. Basically always charging.

Yes, it did. That battery's premature failure was caused, not by leaving it in the computer, but by *never using it.* It doesn't matter whether the battery is in the computer or out of it — it will die young if it isn't used regularly. So leave it in place (to allow your computer to run at full speed), but unplug the AC adapter and use your MBP on battery power for an hour or two every day or two to give the battery the regular light exercise it needs. How do you keep iPhone charged in the car while it is connected to the cable for CARPLAY?

The next time you connect your iPad to your laptop, click on your iPad under Devices and then click on the Apps tab on top. Once it opens and lists all your apps in iTunes on the left (both iPad and iPhone ), simply uncheck the boxes next to the iPhone apps you wish to leave off from future syncs. They will still be in iTunes and available for your iPhone, but won't be synced to your iPad. Click on Apply.

  • Using Macbook as a HTPC, should I keep the battery in it?

So today, I had a quick brown out from the wind. Since the macbook I use connected to my TV as a HTPC doesn't have a battery, it instantly turned off.
I took the battery our cause it got real real fat. There is known issue with these batteries that for some reason, they start to inflate so to speak, causing the battery to bevel and it looks like it has a tumor growing inside the case.
I tossed the battery out cause it is a past its cycle anyway but I head that some of the time, this happens to batteries when they are plugged in to the power adapter all the time, which this was.
Since I wont use the battery much, I can get a cheap generic battery so in the case of another power brown out, at least it wont kill the laptop, sort of a UPS backup.
So what do you all think? Should I buy the new battery and not worry about the fat battery syndrome? Or throw in a few extra bucks and get a real UPS system just for the macbook?
    Thanks!

One problem with running your MacBook without a battery is your MacBook will reduce the processor speed while it is operated with the battery out of it. See Mac Support article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2332 and http://www.gearlog.com/2008/11/applenotebooks_take_hugeperf.php

  • Should I keep the battery in the machine or not?

I've heard some people say that when you're not using your laptop's battery (ie. you're on AC) you should take it out. This supposedly stops it from "wearing out" too quickly or something in that direction. Is there any truth to this?

Well, I thought the warmer Li-ion batteries get (for longer periods of time?), the faster they lose capacity. So when your notebook gets hot, it's best to take the battery out when you're on AC. I don't bother doing that with the MacBook because of the coin slot, but it makes sense and I have done this with my other notebook. I don't know if what I said is factually accurate, but that's what sales people have told me in the past.
And I do realise that when the battery is fully charged, the MacBook will run soley on AC power, I'm just saying that the notebook itself can heat up the battery.
A quick search got me this for example: http://www.batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-34.htm
I'm sure this has been discussed before, but any other thoughts would be more than welcome.

  • Nokia 5000 - How much time keep your battery

Hi, please can you let me know how much time (days of hours) you baterry is workin on. On my Nokia 5000 the baterry work fine for 3 or 4 days, including the stand by tine and talking time. The talking time is not more then 30minutes - 1 hour per day.
    Thank you very much.

Read the manual about battery life.  There are many factors that can cause excessive battery drain.  Thing such as:
Push for mail.  You might want to turn push off and check for manually
You mention you have a WiFi unit.  If you leave WiFi on and you're not near a WiFi signal, your unit will constantly check for a WiFi signal
Location Services uses battery power.  Check your settings and turn off location for Apps that don't need your location
These are just a few suggestions.

  • How do I keep comp on while using Time Machine, iTunes etc..?

    Hello
I want to know how to put the settings on my computer not to shut off. I have gone to the Energy Saver icon and made the changes so that it never shuts off and after about 15 minutes it will still turn off.
I want this setting for when im backing up my comp using Time Machine and also when I listen to music. I dont want to have to be next to the computer and have to hit a button or move the mouse so that it wont turn off.
Any suggestions or advice will be appreciated.
    p.s. -- i have a black macbook from 2007 if that matters.

As you can see I have the settings to NEVER and after 15-`6 minutes it goes to the sign in page anyway

  • How can I keep my batery longer?

How can I keep my battery longer?

None of the suggestions thus far have a significant affect on battery life.
Screen brightness on Automatic is the best setting, as it provides only as much brightness as you need.
WiFi uses ZERO power when the phone is on Standby, and minimal power when the phone is active. But if you are within range of a WiFi hotspot WiFi will use less power than Cellular data. So unless you have the phone actively being used for hours at a time the WiFi setting will make no difference.
3G off will save some power in light use because GPRS uses less power but is MUCH slower. So if you are transferring a lot of data turning 3G off will actually use more power, since transfers will take 3-4 times as long and the difference in power consumption between 3G and GPRS is only 2 times.
Bluetooth uses no significant power unless you are actively using a Bluetooth device, and then you would clearly want it on. BT runs at 3 milliwatts, hardly enough to matter.
If you did all of the suggested things you might get an extra few minutes a day.
If your phone is using a lot of power there are only 2 possible causes - Interactive games, and large data transfers. Nothing else on the phone comes close these two uses. FIRST you should determine if your power use is within spec for your paticular usage pattern. It probably is, but you can work it out for yourself by comparing your usage to the specs for the phone: http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html

  • Is it advisable to keep the mac connected to the plug as often as possible while using it? (to keep the battery at 100%)

Reading the advises on the battery (long) life it looks like the main parameter of interest for evaluating the battery performance are the cycle counts.
This also means there it is better to always keep the battery charged while using the mac in order to never let it discharge consuming cycles.
Is it really advisable? Aren't there some possible drawbacks in doing so?
(Risks due to higher temperature, risk of battery malfunctions..)
    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to ASC!
In the ~15 years I've been lurking here, there seems to be one recurring theme to posts about battery failure: the statement "I don't understand why my battery died! I never use the computer on battery power!"
As OGELTHORPE points out, use the battery every so often. I try to get 1-2 cycles on mine per month. How you do it depends on your usage pattern. I use mine at a museum where I volunteer one a week and the battery has more than enough capacity to power my MBP through my shift.
Think of your battery in term of human muscles: if we do not exercise a muscle, it will atrophy and become disabled. So it is with your MBP battery.
