How Should I Properly Store Away My Macbook?

I'm heading off for a 3-4 month trip and I won't want my Macbook with me. How do I store it away Properly? I already have my Media Backed Up and Software Updated.

Long-term storage is for 6 months or longer. Since your trip is shorter but still lengthy, I would say that the storage suggestions are optional. Apple says to:
+If you don’t plan on using your notebook for more than six months, Apple recommends that you store the battery with a 50% charge. If you store a battery when it’s fully discharged, it could fall into a deep discharge state, which renders it incapable of holding any charge. Conversely, if you store it fully charged for an extended period of time, the battery may experience some loss of battery capacity, meaning it will have a shorter life. Be sure to store your notebook and battery at the proper temperature. (See “Notebook Temperate Zone.”)+

how should I connect yamaha HS50m to macbook pro? Does macbook pro with i7 processored have an enough sound card for yamaha studio monitors?or will I need an external sound card or mixer?

Some mikes have sufficient output to connect to this port, Alexey, but most don't. the solution, if you really want to use this particular mic, is to obtain a small battery or mains powered pre-amplifier to connect between the microphone and the line -in input. Alternatively there are devices which will allow you to connect your existing mic through the USB port. If you have an amplifier with a mic input already you could also use this as an intermediary, though it won't be very portable, of course!
You may find it cheaper to simply buy either a USB or "line level" mic, though.

  • How should I properly tag "Best Of" Albums? iTunes 11

I've finally buckled down and decided to properly sort, tag, correct all my music in iTunes. It was going fairly easily, till I hit a snag... "Best Of" albums... I understand how to make complation albums (movie soundtracks and such), but what I'm not sure how to do, or if it's possible, is tag the album and show the original album the song came from? My example: I've got all the Black Sabbath studio albums tagged nicely, then went to start tagging their complation album "We Sold Our Soul For Rock 'N' Roll". Everything was fine to a point, (Artist: check, Album: check, Album Artist: check and on and on...) But wait a minute, the first 3 tracks were from the same ORIGINAL (studio) album, then the next 3 are from a different album.
How am I able to list the original album, whilst catergorizing it under the Best hits/complation album? Moreover, keep it grouped with the same artist field and not various artists?

If you have not run it yet, I would use the PPBM6 Benchmarking: http://ppbm6.com/index.html
A newer version is in the works, but I have not heard the anticipated release date.
When you have run the benchmark, submit the results, and then compare your performance to other systems, in the site's spreadsheet.
    Good luck,

OMG.... That I DIDNT THINK OF !!!!!!
Man, thats so original, and very simple anyway... and very functional ! Its very good approach I am considering.
    But anyway...
If i want to implement efficient search functionality I shall implemement a respective custom word/component index as opposed to native database indices (for the blob). Is this correct ?
Anyway, can u suggest a/the correct way of storing the (plain/nested) parts/data as an alternative of the approach u suggest. THANKS ! :)))

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select "/var/log/install.log" from the file list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, start over and note the time. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • Who has maxed out their space on their 160?  How much space can itunes store on a MacBook?  should I just shift "jazz" to a new iPod and keep rock on my current 160?  any suggestions?

Who has maxed out their space on their 160?  How much space can itunes store on a MacBook?  should I just shift "jazz" to a new iPod and keep rock on my current 160?  any suggestions?

I have not filled the iPod Classic 160 GB.  I have most of my music and a few movies for traveling on that one.  Before I bought it, I had a 20 GB that was always full.  Now, what I do is have rock music on a shuffle that I use for biking or running.  Audio Books are on an iPod Touch.  The 20 GB unit is no longer used (given away) and replaced with the 160 that holds just about everything else.
The MacBook is limited by the size of the hard disk.  Many people with have their entire iTunes library on an external USB or Firewire hard drive and have iTunes map to that.  Remember that this is not truly a backup (if the library is only on one drive, it is not a backup, nor should the iPod/iPhone/iPad/etc. be considered a backup)
If you have the means to have another device, I would agree that splitting your music by genre on each device is the way to go.  I've known people that sort their music on devices by artist, album, etc.  As long as you find a way that works for you.

One of these should work, depending on the projector. Just note both will not allow you to play protected movies on the projector.

  • HT1635 how should i will upgrade my macbook'13inch (late 2008)

HI, i want to upgrade my Macbook 13inch late2009.
so, how should i will upgrade the ram, nvida graphics and GHS
    please guide meh.
    Thank you

You can upgrade the RAM and the disk but not the NVIDIA graphics processor.  I don’t know what a GHS is.
On my 2009 MacBook I upgraded the memory and disk and it did wonders for the boot time and responsiveness.  I found my $200 investment was well worth the money.
I expect you have 2 GB of memory so an 8 GB memory upgrade (~$100) will make a big difference.  You can also upgrade the disk to a small SSD or large hybrid SSHD for around $80 to $260.  Larger SSDs cost more.  Your choice.  The hybrid Seagate SSHD comes with an 8 GB SSD cache that provides SSD-like performance.  My storage needs were minimal so I opted for a 120 GB SSD but if I had needed 500 GB to 1 TB of capacity I would probably have chosen the SSHD.
Order the parts from OWC (macsales.com) or Crucial.com.  They provide Mac-tested and warranted parts with excellent service.
First confirm which model MacBook you have.  About this Mac > More Info…  Note the season and year.  Then click on System Report and note the Model Identifier.  For example, if it is a Late 2009 model it would be a MacBook 6,1.  A late 2008 model (non-aluminum) would be a 4,1.
If it is a Late 2009 MacBook 6,1 it can hold up to 8 GB of RAM.  Apple originally supported 4 GB of RAM but OWC has tested and supports 8 GB.
If it is a Late 2008 MacBook 4,1 it can hold up to 6 GB of RAM.  Apple originally supported 4 GB of RAM but OWC has tested and supports 6 GB.
In these instances OWC supports larger RAM than Crucial so I would buy it form OWC.  8 GB for the 6,1 would cost you $105.  6 GB for the 4,1 would cost $125.
The disk-bus speed for the Late 2009 MacBook is 3 Gbps, which is good for supporting SSDs and SSHDs.  Here are some example SSDs.  If your capacity needs are modest you may want to chose an SSD.  If you want the combination of 1 TB high capacity and SSD-like speed, choose the SSHD.
    http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=MacBook%20(13-inch%2C%20Late%2 02009)
    Crucial M500 120 GB: $81
    Crucial M500 240 GB: $138
    Crucial M500 480 GB: $260
    http://www.crucial.com/store/modelpart.aspx?model=MacBook%20(13-inch,%20Late%202 009)&imodule=ST1000LM014
    Seagate 1 TB SSHD: $105
For a $5 toolkit with the necessary screwdrivers I recommend http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/TOOLKITMHD/
For an enclosure to transfer the data Google “USB 3.0 enclosure”
The Crucial and OWC sites have tutorials on installing the memory and disks.
If you don’t want to do the upgrade yourself take it to an Apple Authorized Service Provider https://locate.apple.com/country.  An Apple store will not install non-Apple parts.

  • Can anyone tell me how to stop / turn off my new macbook pro properly?

Hey. Can anyone tell me how to stop / turn off my new macbook pro properly? Every time I want to put away my computer for a while and then restart the computer again at a later time the battery has been used. That is, the computer indicates that I have used battery, even though I put away the computer with 100% charged.

Every time I want to put away my computer for a while
Prior to shutting down, attach the Magsafe.  It will prevent your battery from draining while turned off or even sleeping.
is how you shut down properly.

How can I play music on my macbook pro (OSX Lion) through a Pioneer receiver? I've connected them with a mini display port to HDMI cable with audio support bought at the Apple Store, but there's no sound coming through. There are 4 HDMI-in ports on the receiver - BD, DVD, DVR/BDR and audio. In my system preferences for sound, the receiver doesn't show up as an output option. Can anyone please advise. (ps, this is my first time posting a question, so I hope I can find your answers!) thanks, JP downunder

For sound, try the audio output port and connecting to the RCA  audio input ports on your Pioneer receiver.  Use something like this:

  • How do I reinstall the App Store to my Macbook Pro?

App Store app was accidentally deleted. Can it be reinstalled through the Apple website, and if so, how?

The App Store cannot be deleted. If you dragged the App Store app to the Trash, you'll see this dialog:
"App Store.app" can't be modified or deleted because it's required by OS X.
I think you're just missing the App Store icon from your Dock.
Look in your Applications folder. You should the App Store app there.
