How/should I upgrade firmware on a WKPC54G router

I went to the support page http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/support/WKPC54G/download
and I was offered this:Firmware
05/25/2004
Ver. 1.55.02
Download 358 KB
(Firmware)
Firmware Auto Upgrade Utility
Download 44.3 KB
(Firmware Auto Upgrade Utility)
The firmware comes from near the same date as I bought the router.
How can I determine if this is the correct upgrade for my unit?
The Firmware Auto Upgrade Utility seems to be a bad link and doesn't connect.
Can anyone give me some advice about getting updated?
(I want to install a NAS device to an ethernet port on the router and I want to be sure I have the latest firmware to support this.)
Thanks

Thanks sabretooth:
 Firmware Version: 1.55.02, May 21 2004
I was worried that there might be another version and I wasn't locating it.
Thanks a lot

Thanks for asking, jrh4054. We always recommend updating your software to the most recent version. At this time, NK1 is the way to go.

  • WRT54G v5... should I upgrade firmware?

I purchased my WRT54G w.router on September last year. It says it is version 5 and it's firmware version is 1.00.6.
I never upgraded my firmware, never thought it would be important.
Now I am interested on upgrading the firmware and the product page of WRT54G says that the firmware upgrade offered is compatible only for v8 routers... what happened? Should I upgrade with that firmware version?

Supposed you accidentally unlugged the power of the router while in a process of upgrading the firmware, the router might go bad. The powerlight indicator on the router would go flashing and router could not respond anymore with your PC.
**After successfully upgraded the firmware you have to hold the RESET button for 10 seconds and unplug the power of the router and put the power back in.

  • New Muvo N200 - Should I upgrade firmwar

Just got a new Gb Muvo N200 and looking at the settings it is version ..0
Should I upgrade the firmware as I believe there is a newer version.
I havent experienced any pops or crackles yet but it is new and I havent listened to more than 5 minutes

    BognorRocks,
The new firmware listed some fixs and added support for Audible audio. If your not having problem with the player and audible audio support is not needed at your end then it's not needed.

I want to buy an Iphone 5 but need to upgrade my operating system from OSX 10.5.8 to at least 10.6.0.  Also my hard drive is partitioned with Mac and Windows.  How can I upgrade?

    1. Click here and buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD.
    2. Use the Boot Camp Assistant in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to return the drive to a single partition setup.

  • How should I upgrade hard drive with bootcamp partition & Parallels too

I need to replace the hard drive in my 24" iMac (model 8,1 - early 2008).  My major concern is how to deal with my Windows XP in Parallels using a Bootcamp partition.  I have yet to find software that runs in OSX 7 (Lion) that will clone both the OSX partition and the Bootcamp NTFS partition.  It would appear that the most practical approach would be to use bootcamp assistant to remove the NTSF bootcamp partition and then clone just the OSX partition to my new drive and then recreate the bootcamp and parallels installations and reinstall Windows XP from scratch.   Seems rather inelegant, so I'm hoping someone has advice based on experience.  I'm truly hoping there is a more elegant way and any suggestions are appreciated.

Kinda sticky, but there is a way.  You'll need three separate tools for the job:
The External Hard Disk: Indispensable.  Get one that's at least 2x bigger than your current internal drive.  You'll need it as an interim storage point
Winclone:  This free software will allow you to image the Boot Camp volume.  Since the developers closed shop, it's off to MacUpdate for a copy. Run it and clone the data to the external drive
Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.3: Same as above, but for your OS X volume.  This essentially puts a slick front-end on Disk Utility's cloning powers, but it really works well.  Get it at http://www.bombich.com/
    As for restoring the volumes:
Restore the Mac side first from Snow Leopard, using the created image from CCC.  Let it take up the full of the new drive
Now, run Boot Camp Assistant to size up a new Windows volume. You should not need to reload Windows--that's where Winclone comes in.
Use Winclone to recover the XP side now, and if necessary, resize the volume.
If done correctly, you'll keep XP as you update to Lion on the Mac side--but you can't upgrade the drivers past 3.2.

  • How should I upgrade

I upgraded computers to this one in my profile over a month ago and sent in my upgrade paperwork hoping to get snow leopard on release, well it is on backorder.. Anyway, I am upgrading my HD to 500GB and then I plan on using my original HD as my timemachine drive attached to our airport extreme base station..
My question is this.. Should I clean install snow leopard on the new drive and then drag apps from the original drive or just install it over my current system and then migrate to the new drive? The migration was a bit unwieldy when I did it from my G3 to this so that is why I hesitate.. Opinions?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, Greg.

You can't "drag" your applications that just won't work!
Why don't you just do a upgrade install if you want to avoid all that?
Then do a clean install or a Time Machine restore on the (now) external drive.

  • How should i upgrade my ram

i just got a macbook and it only has 1 gig of ram. im not worried about price, so where should i take it to get it upgraded? also, is 2gb my limit?

Those apps are pretty RAM intensive and I think that you will see a jump in performance if you go to 2GB.
One way to see your RAM needs is to open up the activity monitor and look under the "system memory" tab for the number of pageouts. That is the number of times that your RAM has "filled up" and had to write its contents to the HD. Obviously HD access is much slower than accessing the RAM, so that would lead to a slowdown.
The number of pageouts is cumulative since your last reboot, so do not be alarmed if the number is high, but rather if it is large compared to the number of pageins. My Mac has been on for almost 8 days now and I have 104721 pageins and only 1624 pageouts. I have not worked on anything at all for the last week, just browsed the web so those numbers are low, but the clearly show that I have enough RAM for the current usage.

  • How should i upgrade this agp comp? What would you do?

    specs:
    msi neo2 plat
    3200+ with xp-90 stock
2x512 ocz el plat rev 2
    6800 gt stock
    ocz modstream 450w
Let's say a budget of $500. Important note: I run my games at 1280x1024 on an 18" monitor and have no plans on getting a new monitor, I'm happy with 1280x1024. I'm planning on playing games like stalker, crysis, hl2, bioshock etc. I'm sure the current hardware will run these games as it is but I'm looking for high frame rates with aa and af on.

Oh boy, are you in for a downer, try playing supreme commander , a little glimpse into the future...
The game takes advantage of dual core cpu's and a 4800+ with 7800GTX starts stuttering on the bigger maps in 1280*1024 highest detail ...
    With AA turned off ...
hl2 and stalker should be fine even with your current system - But you can bet your marbles crysis will be just as tough as supreme commander...
I'd wait till crysis arrives and then get a completely new box - A 3200+ won't cut it.
Crysis is also a DX10 game, The main advantage of DX10 is shader model 4.0 wich allows more effects without losing performance - So it'll run better on a DX10 card like the 8800. For the 8800 you need pciexpress motherboard , and a 8800 is highly cpu limited with a 3200+ ...
A good core2 system is GPU limited with the 8800, that's how big the gap is atm...

  • I find I have software that needs 10.5, how should I upgrade?

10.5 is needed for many new iApp based devices, yet Apple no longer offers it on their web based store.  For people who have compatible computers they need to consider the following:
    1. iTunes latest version that works on 10.4.11 is 9.2.1, available here: http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1056
    2. Boot Camp only works on Intel Macs, not PowerPC G4 nor G5 Macs.
    3. Classic does not operate in 10.5.  This user tip does show what Macs allow dual booting of 9 and 10.5:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1757
Otherwise you'll need to keep 10.4.11 or earlier to allow Classic compatibility either on an erase and reinstalled 10.4 partition, as described in the tip, and
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61301
or an external Firewire hard drive.  If you have an Intel Mac, this does not matter since it doesn't have any 9 compatibility at all.
    4. Apple may offer the retail version of 10.5 through its phone mail order, but not show it on their website.  Note this is the only version of 10.5 that will run on any Mac that shipped new prior to October 26, 2007.  System specific discs rarely if ever work on Macs that aren't the same vintage or model they were initially designed for.  And Up to Date discs were only available for Macs that were new October 8, 2007 to October 26, 2007.
    5. Macs need 512MB of RAM, a G4 processor with 867 Mhz (dual 800 Mhz doesn't count, and upgraded processors only count if the processor seller supports it), and a minimum of 9 GB of free hard disk space.  Arbitrarily an additional 15% free hard disk space has been found in addition to Apple's specs to suffice for fast smooth installations of Mac OS X.  I.e. 100 GB hard drive would have at least 24 GB free before their 10.5 installations are smooth.
    6. All upgrades necessitate backing up your data at least twice, checking for software and hardware compatibility, and shutting down the Mac, and disconnecting all but display, Apple USB keyboard/mouse (if desktop), before rebooting and installing the update.
    7. If your Mac is Intel, upgrading to 10.6 (Snow Leopard) directly is recommended, and if you have a Core2Duo or Xeon Mac, upgrading to 10.6, then 10.6.6 or later to get Lion (10.7) installed is recommended if you have software which supports it. Contrary to popular belief 10.5 is not needed as an in between installation to apply 10.6.  But 10.6.6, 10.6.7, or 10.6.8 presently are a minimum for installing 10.7.  10.7 no longer supports Rosetta though. So be prepared if you are in the market for it.  Snow Leopard requires 5 GB of hard disk space and 1 GB of RAM.  Lion requires 7 GB of hard disk space and 2 GB of RAM.  The same arbitrary 15% as mentioned in #5 is highly recommended for free hard disk space that is additional.  Be sure to inquire in the Communities before updating anything to find out about any additional pitfalls you may run into.

  • How to upgrade firmware

    Hi ,
I have 6230i , and I want to upgrade my firmware newest one.
How can I learn newest firmware version of 6230i?
    My version is 3.40
And How can I upgrade firmware version of my 6230i?
    thx.

With the 6230i, you can send/take it to your nearest Nokia authorized service/repair center and ask them to do the update for you.
You can try this site for locating one:
    http://www.nokia.com/repair
With some models you could use "NSU" or the Nokia Software Update application on a Windows PC, but unfortunately it doesn't support the 6230i (maybe the support will come, or at least with your next Nokia device it will be possible):

  • Should i upgrade to windows 10

Hello, I wanted to know whether i should upgrade to windows 10 or not.  I have checked my pc with the windows 10 app and it says your pc meets all requirements. But i wanted to know whether windows 10 is a stable operating system or not.  When i purchased my pc it ran windows 8 and i upgraded it to windows 8.1 . My pc has some minor glitches since then. Most of them got fixed but there are a few. I didn't found windows 8.1 as a stable OS, it has glitches and is not fluid. And if windows 10 is good, then tell me how should i upgrade. I have seen there are two types of upgrading. One is you move all your files and software to windows 10 and another one is you start completly fresh. So what should I how and should i upgrade ?

@AA7, Hello and thanks for posting on the HP support forums.  At this point I would wait for a few months for all the bugs to be worked out with the OS and compatibility with software and drivers. It normally takes a few months for an OS to take ist stride when dealing with hardware and software.Keep an eye on the support page for your notebook.  Once the drivers and software for windows 10 become listed then upgrade. Thanks for the post and have a great day.You know it is a real shame that HP didn't advise people to do this before we upgraded. Now you admit that your drivers do not work with Windows 10. Bunch of idiots!
