How should my airport drives be formatted

How should I format my airport dives. I want to use one as a Time Mcahine drive I think I formatted it as Mac OS Extended. I'd like to access the other from all machines on my network including Windows 7. I'm running Snow Leopard.

With the Extreme using SMB to share out this drive to Windows clients, they will be "seen" by Windows as typical network drives.
For example, in Windows XP, you can map a drive letter to the shared drive as follows: //<Extreme's Base Station Name>/<AirPort Disk Name>
In one of my setups, the Extreme is named: AEBSn; the shared drive is named: Home_Share. When mapping, I would use: //AEBSn/Home_Share

  • How should I reformat my external hard drive?

I have just purchased a new 21.5" iMac and I will be moving from PC to iMac. I currently have a 2.5TB external hard drive which I have connected to my PC laptop that I use to store and watch movies. My question is how should I format/partition my external hard drive so that I can use it with my new iMac? The external hard drive will solely be used with my new iMac (it won't be connected/used with my laptop again) and I am ok with losing the data on the external hard drive as I have backed up the data currently on it onto another hard drive. I have tried to research what format to use but I am a little confused as to which one is the best and I am looking for some advice.

    Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

  • How does Airplay transfer audio file format to an Airport Express?

    Hi, everyone
How does Airplay transfer audio file format to an Airport Express?
Many from the Internet claim that iTunes encodes an AIFF file format into an Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC) file format before sending signal to an Airport Express.
    Is that true?
If so, would it still make sense for me to have AIFF files on my music server
or should I have ALAC files instead?
    Please advise.
    Thank you.
    BR,
    George Lien

Many from the Internet claim that iTunes encodes an AIFF file format into an Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC) file format before sending signal to an Airport Express.
    Is that true?
Yes. The AirPort Express Base Station (AX) works only with iTunes v4.6+ and is limited to music files that iTunes can read; ie, 16-bit data only. These data, though, can be in any file format that iTunes recognizes, from lossy MP3s at the low-quality end of the spectrum to Apple Lossless and lossless AIFF or WAV files at the high end. It is also important to note that the AX functions only at a 44.1kHz sample rate. When you play 32kHz or 48kHz data, iTunes sample-rate-converts the data in real time before sending it to the AX.
iTunes uses a QuickTime CODEC to convert audio files to Apple Lossless, and then, uses AirPlay to send them to the AX. In turn, the AX uses built-in software that converts the Apple Lossless to an Encoded Digital Audio format. From there, digital audio is sent to a optical transceiver to convert the electrical signal to an optical one before sending it to the innermost part of the audio port. For analog, the AX has a built-in DAC to convert the Encoded Digital Audio to Analog which is sent to the same audio port.
If so, would it still make sense for me to have AIFF files on my music server
or should I have ALAC files instead?
If you have audio files in both formats, I would elect just to keep the ALAC (.m4a) files on the music server.

  • How should a 3 TB WD Elements drive be formattet!

    Hi.
How should a 3 TB WD Elements external drive be formattet for my Mac Pro! I seem to remember somebody said only with Guid
the drive will be properly recognized? Thank you for any help.
                                                                                                  W.W.

    Yes. Do this:
    Drive Preparation
    1.  Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
If you are preparing an external or a non-startup drive, then open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.

  • How should I format my HDD

    Hello,
My computer's startup disc is full, so I need to clean house. [And I just generally need to save files]. I have a Mac OS X 10.7.5 and I also runs Parallels for my windows needs (basically Microsoft Office Suite). Also, my work computer is a pc, so I don't want any files I tranfer to my home computer corrupted.
The question is: I have a 1 TB WD My passport, that is mainly going to be used for storage, [saving all of my files and cleaning my home computer for more space], how should I format this to run on both Mac and PC.
Should I partition the drive? What is the most reliable for long term use: reformat this drive to exFAT or just keep it as NTFS and install a programs such as Tuxera or Paragon NTFS for Mac OS X? I've read that fat32 is more recognized but has its own probelms. Please help.

Currently, I am only going to connect the drive to my mac. And then dump everything from my computer onto the drive.
I'm not that computer literate. [I'm just girl whose read  tons of forums and am still lost] Is there anything I need to do that is special for this mapping. Or can I just format the drive for HFS/mac os journaled on my mac and be set? Once I have it formated for the mac, if I get a pc I can just buy something for that platform to read it later down the road.
I also just didn't know if anyone had experience running parrallels/mac/pc and using exfat formated externals. I've read how great exfat is but that it is not journaled and is not recognized by everything.

  • How to completely uninstall Airport driver

    Greetings;
I regularly visit a customer site where wireless devices are forbidden because they manufacture and test wireless equipment. They are very strict about it and in the past when I've visited they would completely uninstall my PC laptop's wireless driver before they would allow me to bring it into their facility.
I went back to their site and they didn't know how to 'uninstall' the driver on my MBP so they wouldn't allow it on campus.
I did some research/Googleing and haven't come up with anything. Does anyone know how to completely remove the Airport driver? And perhaps more importantly to me personally, how to re-install it after I leave the customer?
    Thanks in advance.

I presume you only take the computer in for your own security. Why not leave it with your mobile phone, iPod, etc? I would think these other devices are also banned and that no employee is allowed those either.
My mind actually boggles at the implications if they are truly serious about this!
If of course your computer contains whatever it is that you are trying to sell make hard copies & carry them in or burn cd's/dvd's in a format they can run on their own computers. You could use memory sticks too.

Hello Anybody, I have a question. Can any of you please suggest me how to make an xml file from the database table with all the records?
Note:- I am having the XSD Schema file and the resulted XML file should be in that XSD format only.

The Oracle documentation has a good overview of the options available
Generating XML Data from the Database
Without knowing your version, I just picked 11.2, so you made need to look for that chapter in the documentation for your version to find applicable information.
You can also find some information in XML DB FAQ

With all you media (apps, music) in the iTunes library connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup. Do that by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up. Then restore the iPod from that backup.
Note the the iPod backup that iTunes makes does not included synced media like apps and music.

Why Acrobat x professional is changing the text formatting specifically the font family  and the font size of the text in my pdf on exporting it to Microsoft word file format ?How should i stop Acrobat x professional from doing that so that i get an exactly same word file on exporting it from its pdf counterpart?

I was testing the preciseness & efficiency of Adobe acrobat x professional's doc conversion capabilities. As i have to take a document editing project in future which is going to need lot of pdf to word and vice versa conversions . What I did was I created a test word document converted into a pdf using a pdf maker in my word 2007 , Acrobat did convert the document from word to pdf keeping everything in the source file intact , However when i tried the other way round and attempted to convert the same pdf to word 2007 file format I lost my formatting ?So the font that I used to create the pdf are the ones taken from word 2007 which i believe is using the fonts that are installed in my computer. Any suggestions on how to preserve the formatting of the document after converting it from pdf to word file format?
    Regards

  • How should i modify the hp54600a instrument driver for GPIB so i can use it for RS232 interface ?

I try to modify the hp54600a instrument driver for GPIB, so i can use it with RS232. But somehow it didnt work. When i try to run the initilize it, the prgoram show VISA read error (time is up before the process is finish). How should I modify the VI so I can use it with RS232 interface ?

First, check the instrument's user manual to see if the GPIB and serial command sets are the same. Also check to see what EOS(End of String) characters the instrument requires. Then, do a loopback test to test communication in LabVIEW.

  • How do I install lion and format the hard drive?

How do I install lion and format the hard drive, as though this was a new mac.

If your Mac is a 2011 model and originally came with Lion Pre-Installed by Apple then you can use the Internet Recovery HD system to Wipe/Erase the Complete drive and Re-Install Lion.
If it is an older model, even and early 2011 model, that did NOT come with Lion Pre-Installed by Apple you can not sell or give it away with Lion installed on it. You have to install the original version of OS X on it.
