How stable is Oracle 11g?

have some Oracle 9i based databases. These database are used for
critical production systems, We are looking to upgrade the databases
to newer version of Orcale. I am wondering whether I can upgrade them
to 11g (instead of Oracle 10.2.0.x), I find Oracle 11g has lots of
nice features, I however want to make sure I do not run into problems
if I use Oracle11g since our databases are critical to business.
I am using HP UNIX 11i.

Well, all the databases are critical to their orgs isn't it? Anyways , 11g , where ever I have seen and I have seen it at lots of places up till now, is performing really good. Some people do say that its just 10205 but IMHO, its not true. Its much more faster and stable as compared to 10g. Now the answer of the question that you should upgrade to 11g or 10g than the answer would be that if you are going to upgrade now from 9i, its better to go for 11g. If you are already on 10g, than you must wait for its release 2 to come. Please note, I am not from oracle so these are just my opinions.

I need to install oracle 11g from VNC viewer. The VNC is stalled on linux. I managed login. Now I have a screen that has some icons on the top like, Connection Options, "i", refresh, CTRl, ...
under that I have
Accept clipboard from viewers
Send clipboard to viewers
Send primary selection to viewers
From the Connection Options window, I checked Hextile for Use encoding and Let remote server deal with mouse cursor.
What is next? How do I connect to the server. (When I login I used hostname:1)
BTW, when I click on "Start TightVNC service" from Start button, I got "Failed to start TightVNC service for the following reason: Access is denied(error code 5).
The VNC on the linux server is running.

How to monitor the Oracle 11g database sessions on Windows 2008 server (other than SQL Developer tool), which procedure or query is taking more time with Java application.

Recently i found this tool- myorasql on the net to monitor the performence of database, easy to setup and check the performence. i never tested it but seems impresive. It is free and i think it would be use ful to you.

You can also use Quest - Toad or sqlplus if you are very good at sql commands and all dictionary tables or OEM/EM grid if it is configured .

How to install Oracle 11g R2 Express Edition in Arch 64?

Does anybody know how to do that?
The AUR website has a package for the beta version of Oracle 11g R2 Express Edition (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=48366), but somebody commented that it had some problem.
After a few months, I think it's easier to install centos 6.2 in a virtual box and install Oracle 11g there.

By default Chinese language will be selected, you can also add english language from the left panel where you find list of languages. Then drag drop English to right panel and click next to continue with your installation.

I've Windows 7 operating system & have Oracle 11g client ( enterprise edition), Oracle 10g XE and Oracle Developer Suite 10g. I want to know how can I set Oracle_11g_home as my primary oracle home.
Note: Currently, the home of Oracle Developer Suite 10g is my primary home as it gets invoked whenever I type sqlplus in the command prompt or tnsping my remote database from command prompt.

You have two options. Either edit your %PATH% environment variable and place the Path related to your 11g home first. Another option is to add an ORACLE_HOME environment variable that points to your 11g home.

How to connect Oracle 11g in CF9 using tnsnames

Hi, I'm using CF9 running on Solaris and I just had Oracle 11g installed using tnsnames. Can someone explain to me how to add the Oracle string in CF admin? I have confirmed that I can connect to the database but I don't think I have the correct syntax for connection string. I think it should be similar to the following: jdbc:datadirect:oracle:TNSNAMES_FILE=/d01/oracle/product/v.11.2.0.3_client/network/admin/ tnsnames.ora:@dbserver.com:1549:SIDname;driver=oracle.jdbc.Oracle

I have Oracle client installed on the web server with Oracle database installed on separate server. When I add DSN and SID, I get the following error:
Connection verification failed for data source: dsn_test
java.sql.SQLNonTransientConnectionException:[Macromedia][Oracle JDBC Driver][Oracle]ORA-12505 Connection refused, the specified SID (SID_NAME) was not recognized by the Oracle server.

yes, I know that I have installed OBIEE and those services related to OBIEE
my main objective is to install OBIEE and for that I got to install oracle database, I did install both database and OBIEE then I didn't find any database to use for OBIEE (silly right :P). yes, that is true and I'm lost
what to do now?
Found easy way is re-installing, I tried uninstalling both and not sure whether database was deleted or not, the same case with OBIEE
what I'm asking you is, "HOW TO ENSURE THAT I HAVE NO ORACLE DATABASE ON MY SYSTEM?"

Assuming you are trying to get certified on the DBA track (there are many different certification tracks, I'm assuming when you say 11g that you mean to indicate that you're interested in the DBA track), you can see the progression of the exams and the options you have on this page.

How To Determine Oracle 11g Issues

Is there a script or way I can run a health check or data integrity on a Oracle 11g R2 (11.2.0.3) database server I don't own or have any experience with? I'm being handed a 11.2 11g Enterprise Edition & would like to see what the state of the database is and the included data. Is there somewhere I can start or some kind of script I can run to determine if this machine is doing well or needs specific attention?

Heyat Afroz.Probably what you are looking for is that you need to install the Guest Additions so that your vm can mount a directory from the host os. Then place your oracle installtion files on that share directory.

How to start oracle 11g?

Hi, I just did an installation of oracle 11g on my fedora 9. The db installed ok and I managed to connect as sys using sqldeveloper. After reboot, the database doesn't start automatically (which is what I want). But I don't know how to start it!!!
I looked around the net and I currently execute these commands:
cd /home/ariskk/programs/oracle/ariskk/product/11.1.0/db_1/bin/
export ORAENV_ASK=NO
export ORACLE_SID=orcl
#replace orcl above with the SID in whose ORACLE_HOME you find the listener
. oraenv
unset ORAENV_ASK
./lsnrctl start
./dbstart $ORACLE_HOME
but when I try to connect I get the following error:
ORA-12505: TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor
My connection descriptor is correct because it was working before rebooting.
Also I am not able to run em. Again, em was running correctly before rebooting (URL: https://localhost.localdomain:1158/em/ was working fine before the reboot)
Any help would be appreciated.

Once you have set your ORAClE_SID=ORCL or whatever your database name iis as an oracle user. Do following and post its output here? For readability enclose your code or output between \.To Start database
$> sqlplus '/as sysdba'
$> startup;
To Start Listener
$> lsnrctl status
$> lsnrctl start
To start database control
$> emctl status dbconsole
$> emctl start dbconsole

How to setup Oracle 11g OEM

We use oracle 11g DB for Oracle Argus in win2008R2.
It looks customer oracle 11g DB is not configured for OEM. I saw member login by SQLplus.
Is there any step-by-step document to setup OEM of oracle DB in windows2008R2 ?

This should be in the documentation, these are empty. For an example simply take a look in the OEM_EXEC_TEMPLATE.SQL file. You will see how this is done (basically empty ",")

I am trying to install oracle 11g under failover cluster environments. I am trying to find some oracle documentation about it. But not able to find one. Can anyone help me. Please i need it badly.
we have two servers sun solaris 10. on which we have failover cluster being installed. one is active while one is passive. How can i install oracle 11g on this failover clusters. did i have to install oracle of shared SAN. what are the extra configuration i have to do please help
Also is it wise to install 11g warehouse with fail safe or use RAC.

I am of the same point of view. but the machine i am working on is sun solaris 10 with two partitions finance and accounts which have been protected by a failed over machine having two partitions finance and accounts and i think you are right these are the same shared storage folder which are mounted on active machine as well as on passive machine.
Now my question is if i install oracle 11g on one machine without oracle cluster then sun cluster should be able to mount the database in case the primary machine fails.
I have tried hard to get some documentation on this top but nothing so far. please help
