How substitute iPhoto image titles for filenames?

Hello!
I have spent many, many hours giving intelligible titles to my photos in iPhoto.
I did not realise the distinction between "image title" and "filename".
In future I will change the filenames.
But I have this legacy of thousands of images with meaningless filenames.
Is there any easy way to substitute the titles for the filenames?
Is there a batch renamer which would be capable of extracting the title of an image so that I could then use it?
Thanks very much!

Whoa first things first:
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
If you are running a Managed Library then yes, those folders can go.
If you're xporting as Original I can't see why there would be any change in the file size. What export setting are you using?
On a broader note: you're used to working with files. iPhoto is different way of working and to grasp it you need to distinguish between the File and the Photo inside it. They are not the same thing.
The illustration I use is as follows: In my iTunes Library I have a file called 'Let_it_Be_The_Beatles.mp3'. So what is that, exactly? It's not the song. The Beatles never wrote an mp3. They wrote a tune and lyrics. They recorded it and a copy of that recording is stored in the mp3 file. So the file is just a container for the recording. That container is designed in a specific way attuned to the characteristics and requirements of the data. Hence, mp3.
Similarly, that Jpeg is not your photo, it's a container designed to hold that kind of data. iPhoto is all about the data and not about the container. So, regardless of where you choose to store the file, iPhoto will manage the photo, edit the photo, add metadata to the Photo but never touch the file. If you choose to export - unless you specifically choose to export the original - iPhoto will export the Photo into a new container - a new file containing the photo.

Yes. You can use the APEX Dynamic Translation option:

  • Media Viewer - iPhoto image titles?

    Hi,
In iWork '05 all iPhoto images in the media viewer were titled. This was extremely useful for me as I do commercial greeting card production using pages and use images achieved numerically in iPhoto for quick import into Pages when fulfilling orders.
But I have noticed that since upgrading to iWork '08, there are no longer titles under my images when viewed in the Media Browser.
Any ideas how to turn titles back on?

    Hi Will,
Do a Control click on the photos then choose Display as list. Now you'll see three columns, Name, Date and Size. You have Show Columns that give you two more options, Dimensions and Kind
    Hope this helps you

  • Have iPhoto image titles been erased with Photos?

When I used iPhoto, I gave all my images explicit titles, and my albums were organised by those titles. I've now migrated to Photos, but all the images seem to be untitled, so I can no longer sort by those titles. Is there some way the titles can be retrieved, or does Photos not use user-defined image titles?

A little bit more exploration has revealed that the titles are not lost. If I select an image and 'get info', the title I gave appears - presumably that is the image filename. But to give the image that title back, I have to copy and paste. Is there any easy way of doing that for the 6000 images already in my Photos library?

  • How to improve image quality for book

I recently had a book printed from iPhoto 9 (large, hardcover) and the images in the book seem dull and dark compared to the actual images. For example, in one image of a church taken at dusk you can clearly see the outline of the church, including some details, and even people in front of it - but in the book, this area is completely black. I have had books printed before from iPhoto8 and had been happy with the past results.
Apple is refunding my purchase and letting me submit the book again, but told me if I don't edit the photos, I may have the same issue (though they also said it could have been a printer issue that day). Customer support did agree that the image quality itself is good. So, my question is, before I resubmit this book - in general, what attributes or combination of attributes are best to change to make the images more vibrant and not dark when printed for the book (ie. increase color saturation and exposure?)
    Thank you.

Thanks. I did indeed preview the book before, and I have followed their tips. As, I said, I have purchased several books in the past and no issue. Apple even sent a couple pictures back to me as an attachment to show what they received, and they matched what I sent, but NOT what was printed. What printed is definitely much darker and in many cases you can't even make out the detail that you could in the images (including the ones they sent back to me for comparison). Maybe the printer really was off. I'll try a few enhancements and try again.

  • How can I reuse titles for different titels

I would like to reuse the same titles for many/all of my videos, which naturally reside in different projects. How can I do this?

    Easiest way:
Set up a Project called "My Titles" which has the titles just the way you like them, and nothing else.
When you start a new project, right-click (control-click) on "My Titles" in the project source list, and select "Duplicate". Change the name of your duplicate project and add footage, etc.

  • How to populate column titles for y values when using Write to Measurement File Express VI with a tab delimited text-based .lvm file?

The .lvm file generated by the Write to Measurement File Express VI includes column heading titles for the y values, but they are a default value of "untitled".  See attached example of a sample file when opened in Excel, the values in question are highlighted.  Is there a way to specify the column titles when the file is written?
This is a similar question to this posting, which received a work around response to use the Write to Spreadsheet File.vi, rather than a solution when using this VI.

Sorry for the late reply.  I was out of the office Friday.
You can do it, but the code can get rather ugly.  Under the hood, the dynamic data type (the dark blue wire) is an array of waveforms.  In your case, the scalar values you convert to a dynamic data type are being converted to an array of waveforms, each waveform having one element.  You have two options.
Explicitly convert your scalars to one-element waveforms (t0=0, dt=1) and add the title before conversion to a dynamic data type.
Convert your dynamic data type to an array of waveforms and loop through them to add the column labels.  The conversion blocks are in the Signal Manipulation Express palette.
I would recommend 2, since it is the easiest to add.  It is also the easiest to run only on the first iteration.  Just put a case selector around the loop, wire the selection to the While loop iterator, and set the case containing the label code to 0.  The default case simply passes through the dynamic data.
My apologies for not including a screen shot.  I am in the process of upgrading my machine and can't run LabVIEW.  If you need one, let me know and I can post one tomorrow.

    Dear all,
I am using CL_SALV_TREE to create a report. But, some unexpected problem comes up. I have used below code to set the title for each column:

      LR_COLUMN = LR_COLUMNS->GET_COLUMN( 'FIELDNAME' ).
      LR_COLUMN->SET_LONG_TEXT( 'Long Text' ).

      LR_COLUMN->SET_SHORT_TEXT( 'Short Text' ).
But, it seems that above code does not take effect when report is running. The title for column remains the info of ABAP Dictionary. Is anyone can help me to resolve this problem? It's very urgent for me!
Looking forward to receiving your replies! Thank you very much!

At least the new short text is displayed on the ALV tree. I assume that you have to be very careful and scrupulous in choosing the correct data types for the method calls.

  • How to set image size for importing photos from a digital camera

I'm using Iphoto 6 and am a novice user of my new digital camera. The camera is set to HQ image quality. Initially when I imported photos from the camera into IPhoto, the images were very large (over 1 meg) and produced good quality 4X6 prints. Now when I import photos from the same camera still set to HQ image quality, the photos are very small (less than 100 kb) after being imported into IPhoto. I think I must have changed some kind of setting in IPhoto that affects the size of an imported image, but I can't find where that is or how to change it back so that the size is not changed when imported. Can someone please help me with this? Thanks!

Dave, thanks for clarifying Toad's response for me - I was just too ignorant to connect the dots from his responses. As you said, there were 2 versions - 1 in the original folder and 1 in data; the original folder had the photos that were 1 mb. We must have pulled from that folder previously to print photos not realizing they existed in 2 places. So when we found these thumbnail photos, we just thought they were the real thing. Where can you go to learn about the struction and hierarchy of the photos in terms of what Iphoto does to an image when you import it? Is it in Iphoto help somewhere? Thanks so much for your help with this, and you too Toad for leading me down the path.
If you're getting the size from Finder, I think Old
Toad's question makes a lot of sense. Is the file
you're looking at, somewhere in a folder called
"Data" in iPhoto Library? That 56k sounds about the
    right size for a thumbnail.
If you do a search for the image name, both the
actual photo and the small thumbnail are stored with
    the same image, e.g. abc.jpg

  • How do I create titles for albums in Photo app?

When someone sends me photos in an email and I download them to my ipad2 they automatically appear in the native Photo App. When I tap Album they are grouped together with the title “Camera Roll” whatever that means. My question is: How to I change the title “Camera Roll” to a title of my choosing? I know how to do this in iPhoto on my MacBook Pro where most of my photos are grouped in “events” but have no idea how to do this on my ipad. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Photos that are emailed to you and saved to your iPad are automatically saved to the Camera Roll. You can not title the photos or albums on the iPad without using a third party app. The photo captioning ability is not built into the iOS. You can search the apps store but one app that I know of is called Photo-Sort for iPad. You can also organize and create folders for your photos with this app.

  • How to hide image displays for lightbox

Using DW, I have a lightbox display.  Here is the page:
    Example page
As you'll see, if you click on the photo, it opens up into a lightbox.  My colleague wants to have 10 photos open up in the lightbox but they do not want all of those photos to have thumbnails on the page.  In other words, they want one single photo, you click on it, and then see all 10 photos in the lightbox.
If I put all of the img code for all 10 images on the page then all 10 images will also show up on the page.  So I have to somehow "hide" the images so that the small version of the photos do not show up on the page but will show up in the lightbox.
Sorry if this sounds confusing and hope someone can help.  Thanks.

    Deaf Mike wrote:
I've never seen it either as it already existed on the site and I actually just discovered it.
    Here's another example
When you arrive at the above, click on the turtle and you'll see how several photos are in the lightbox.  Then close the light box and scroll down and click on those + symbols.  See those other images in the other sections?  Somehow the code is pulling those photos into the lightbox too.
I want to do the same thing but the key is there will be no + symbols on the page - just one turtle photo and when you click on the turtle, all of the other photos appear in the light box.  Another thing I'm thinking about doing is having one turtle photo and then 10 1 pixel by 1 pixel invisible image down at the bottom of the page then have 10 of them and then the h ref for each are the larger photos - that way when you click on the turtle, the code will pull in the 1X1's large photos into the light box.
Well that would be pretty easy just do as 'Per' suggested in the previous post and hide the 'thumbnails' you don't want on the page:
Create a rule in your css - something like:
    .hide_thumbs {display:none;}
So typically a set of light box images might look like the code below. (when clicked they open in a lightbox and that lightbox usually has an option to display the other images in that particular gallery by clicking through them, rather than clicking on them individually).
    <a href="turtle.jpg"><img src="turtleThumb.jpg" alt="turtle"></a>
    <a href="whale.jpg"><img src="whaleThumb.jpg" alt="whale"></a>
    <a href="dolphin.jpg"><img src="dolphinThumb.jpg" alt="Dolphin"></a>
    <a href="tuna.jpg"><img src="tunnaThumb.jpg" alt="Tunna"></a>
If you add a class="hide_thumbs" the ones you don't want to show get the display: none; property BUT they should still be available in the lightbox to click through.
    <a href="turtle.jpg"><img src="turtleThumb.jpg" alt="turtle"></a>
    <a href="whale.jpg" class="hide_thumbs"><img src="whaleThumb.jpg" alt="Whale"></a>
    <a href="dolphin.jpg" class="hide_thumbs"><img src="dolphinThumb.jpg" alt="Dolphin"></a>
    <a href="tuna.jpg" class="hide_thumbs"><img src="tunnaThumb.jpg" alt="Tuna"></a>

  • How to check image files for their integrity?

    Dear People,
I am having new problems with aperture foto sync on my iphone.
Just suddenly, iTunes started compling that certain fotos werent copied to the phone because the phone cannot display them.
now - those pictures are just regular camera jps. they show absolutely now problem when displayed in the finder or aperture or iphoto. they HAVE been copied to an iphone before!
So i wonder what is going on?
Maybe my library is corrupted again?
You should know that i allready spent hours and hours rebuilding my library because it had some strange behaviour, so i did restore it by hand two or three times.
so know one guess is: maybe some photos are corrupted and corrupt the library? but all photos seem to work normal. so maybe i need some programm which checks them?
    clueless,
    thanks for help
PS: lion, aperture and iPhone are ALL the newest version/OS

And its getting worse: i checked now that i can display AND sync those images with iPhoto perfectly normal - so it seems AGAIN my aperture library is corrupted somehow.
Of course I did perform all repair operations etc

  • How to organise images (files) for profile creation

I am trying to get my head round this. I am on the way to shooting 324 images for one lens. Each set of 9 are together. Do I then group sets into a sub folder? And then those groups by, say, focal distance into another folder. Otherwise how does the creator cope with the massive memory requirement to cope with all the files at the same time? You can see that I am a bit of a dumb-dumb about this.

Good question. It would be very helpful to organize photos by the focus distance in separate folders because ALPC knows how to sort the focal length and aperture based on the EXIF metadata. The focus distance is a hit and miss. ALPC does not use it for sorting automatically. It has to be done manually. Say you put the images into folders A, B, C according to the three bucket of focus distances. Then import all the images in A, B, C in three separate batches (into to same project file). The ALPC will know to put images in A, B, C into three different focus distance sets while also sorting into finer sets based on the focal length and aperture. This is the easiest way to go.
If you work with a lot of images in a single project. I recommend saving the ALPC project file regularly so that you can always pick up where you left off the last time.
    Hope this helps,
    -Simon
