How the Landscape of BO - SAP BI (Dev, QA, PROD)

Hi,
I wanted to know how the landscape will be for BO -BI system. In Bi system if we create any report in Dev, then collect transport and move to QA, later that transport to PROD. But in the case of BO reports
based SAP BI/BW as datasource. How we collect transport/move BO reports from dev to QA to PRod.
Please advise
Mathew

Lingo,
Thanks for the reply, I am looking for best practice or recommendation for BO - BI integration landscape
including transport startegy from Dev, QA and PROD.
Is there any white paper or documentation regarding this subject. This include any reports from BO (crystal reports, Xcelsiou, Webi etc) base SAP BI/BO .
Thanks,
Mat

  • How to sync a planning application in Dev from Prod?

    Hello,
I have a planning application in Dev ("X") that is now out of date and is not synced up with the planning application in Prod ("Y"). X and Y are the same applications just the names are different in the environments.
I want to know what is the best ways to sync up the planning application "X" that is in dev with a planning application "Y" that is in production to make sure its closest to production now? What are the things that I need to keep in mind while doing this?
If I were to use LCM for this is it necessary that both the applications should have the same application and database name?
It would be really helpful if someone could suggest the best and efficient way to do so and throw some light on this topic.
    Thanks,
    - Krrish

I'm sure there are other ways to do this, but my preferred method is exporting the application via LCM to the file system. This will dump a series of XML files to the import_export directory.
The reason I prefer this method is that you can do a "bulk" find and replace on these files with a tool like TexRep. This means you can change the app name or database name without much trouble when moving between environments. Update the XML files with the new name and simply import them into the target app.
One important tip . . . . the app name is embedded in not only the XML files themselves, but also into the file folder names. So make sure you update these directory names as well, or you'll have issues with the import.
Another important tip . . . . make sure you don't overwrite the admin password by importing PROD Shared Services data into DEV. (I typically don't migrate things between Shared Services environments with LCM - so make sure you either exclude this from your migration, or manually remove this ID from your XML files.)
    Hope this helps,

  • How to migrate an ODI scenario from DEV to PROD env

I have a PROD and DEV environments which are same, however I have now developed a new package/scenario on the DEV and would like to merge it with PROD.
One way I generally do is to drop the PROD ODI repositories and then Export , Import from the DEV ODI repositories; this process does not suit us as we have an incremental development on daily basis.
Is there any other way I can transport the DEV scenario development to the PROD?
    Thanks in Advance
    B

I think that would be far easier if you just export the scenario which is a xlm file and then when you are logged in on Operator (if work repository is the execution) you import the exact exported file , pretty simple!!

  • Comparing data in dev and prod cubes

We have a development environment and a production environment.
I use the deployment wizard to move from dev to prod, but I haven't done this for several months.
I have a finance cube which in theory I haven't changed except for some changes to some shared dimensions.
I would like to compare the data and/or structure of the two finance cubes (dev vs prod) and make sure the only changes are the differences in shared dimensions.
Can anybody tell me how to do, that?
    Thanks in advance.

Red Gate's free SSAS Compare tool is probably the easiest way to compare two SSAS Multidimensional databases:
    http://www.red-gate.com/labs/free-tools/ssas-compare
It will show up a few spurious differences (minor property values that aren't important) and it's not supported, but it works pretty well.
If you're using Tabular rather than Multidimensional, you can use BISM Normalizer:

  • What is the average duration of 1 full SAP life cycle or 1 end-to-end implementation. How long does it take to prepare DEV, QAS and PRD?

What is the average duration of 1 full SAP life cycle or 1 end-to-end implementation. How long does it take to prepare DEV, QAS and PRD in any company?

    Anand,
let me start with saying that the question you ask may not help you to determine the duration of your project. As Ryan and others stated the duration of the project is highly dependent on the scope of the solution you are implementing, geographical scope, amount of modifications/enhancements, number of languages, number of users that need to be trained, amount of standard processes customer is able to re-use in the implementation and many other factors (like quality of implementation contractor you will chose and availability of customer and implementors resources). I can probably go on for another couple lines, but I guess you get the idea.
With that out of the way let's talk about some example implementations that will give you an idea - Ryan did great job outlining what I would call traditional approach above. I have couple examples where customers leveraged innovative deployment strategies that are available today. In particular the project teams leveraged pre-packaged services like RDS, World Template or Best Practices as their baseline solution and they built from there. Second acceleration technique customers now leverage is the deployment in the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud to accelerate the time to initial setup of the system and thus move from traditional blueprinting to scope validation exercise that further shortens the time. There are other acceleration techniques we see applied in some cases like use of iterative implementation of the delta requirements on top of the baseline solution.
Let me offer few examples to illustrate what I explained above:
ERP implementation at Schaidt Innovations with 3 months long deployment of ERP solution using ERP RDS as a baseline (you can view their testimonial here - Schaidt Innovations: SAP ERP on HANA in the cloud - YouTube)
Customer in Asia with global template deployment that leveraged SAP ERP for Manufacturing with deployment to cloud and 9 countries rollout (Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, UK, Germany and US). The initial deployment took 4 months for first country and 2 months for rollout into the additional 8 countries - so total of 6 months. The original plan using traditional approach with full blueprint and heavy configuration was estimated to be more than double of the actual deployment time.
There are many other examples where customers follow the assemble-to-order delivery model for their project and gain significant benefits doing so. I suggest you to review some of the recordings we did in 2013 about this approach and if you are member of ASUG review the Agile ASAP sessions we did for ASUG PM SIG.

  • How to use the repository; uploading reports from DEV to PROD...

    Hello...
I'm fairly new to CR-XIr2 (SP3) but have worked with Crystal Reports since v6.0.  I'm trying to figure out how to create a dynamic parameter list that someone can select an item from, which will get sent as an input parameter to the SQL Server 2005 stored proc that populates the report.  I'm also trying to figure out if there's an easy way to copy reports from a DEV environment into PROD.  We have BOE.
Basically, I would like to find out resources online or in books on how to use the BOE repository for dynamic and/or cascading parameters (i.e. pulling a list of text values & their associated IDs from a lookup table that won't be used in the report), images (i.e. corporate logo), etc..  What complicates things for us is that IT is now requiring us to use a DEV environmentit was really easy when we had unlimited access in PROD!  We also need to put together a process where reports & other repository objects that are copied from DEV to PROD access the correct db, etc.  (Crystal Report in DEV accesses DEV db/repository/etc.when copied to PROD it accesses PROD db/repository/etc.)
Anyway, I'm just looking for info on where to begin--whether it be a book, a BO/SAP knowledge base article, in-class training from a specific company, etc.  Thanks!

    Hey Markian,
Can you let me know the process you have followed to migrate from Dev to Prod.
We can migrate all the reports and objects and database fields through migrate wizard where you can import all the objects, reports and database fields and users to production enterprise.
Just follow the above scenario and let us know if you are facing any error.
Try  publish the reports using import wizard and run it in the crystal designer.
    Regards,
    Naveen.

    Balaji,
What is the landscape you have ?
    Windows / Unix / Solaris etc ?
Also there are a lot of logs that are generated:
    Archive log ,
    System Log,
    Transaction log etc...
The usual procedure is to copy them into another location and then delete the original file , the system will usually recreate the log and start logging new entries..

  • ERECRUIT in other location than rest of the landscape (like SAP Portal)

    Dear Colleagues,
because of business reasons we have located ERECRUIT system (stand-alone) for DEV/QAS by another hosting partner than the rest of the HW/SW landscape incl. SAP Portal and HCM. This works very good without any visible delays. But now we have to consider about the PRD system.
Do you see any issues we have to have in mind, any bottlenecks that may occur by similar architecture of system for productive use?
    Best regards
    Waldek

System has to opened to the outside world without vpn (for candidates of course). Often a reverse proxy is used to do this (to mask the real server domainname and port).
You have to maintain table HTTPURLLOC for this. Usually only done in PRO so don't forget to test (correspondance sent to candidates with a link to the startpage in it for example)

  • How to change the default operators in sap web ui Search screen?

How to change the default operators in sap web ui Search screen?
For eg. Using advance search option , I have some fields with default operators like equals, contains,is between, is less than and is greater than. I don't need all these operators for this field.
I need only "equals" operator. How do i remove the rest of the operators?

There is a view cluster crmvc_dq where all the standard setting is present related to you r issue. Please try if you can modify that, that way you will avoid the code.
Incase you are not able to make any changes there then in that case you have to redefine the method GET_DQUERY_DEFINITION () of the IMPL class to delete the operators for a particular serach field.

  • How Can we get the data from Non-SAP to SAP in WebDynpro

    Hi,
I hope u understand my query, How can we get the data from Non-SAP to SAP thru WebDynpro Programming.
Help out with the steps for getting the data or procedure.
    Regards,
    Mutyapu

You can expose the APIs in the Non-SAP backend as Web Services, and consume them in SAP by creating an Enterprise Proxy. Then these can be called just like normal class methods from Web Dynpro.

    Hi,
How can we prepare the PDC Cheques from SAP?

    Bharat

    Dear:
For catering PDCs in SAP there is a standard procedure. First you book PDC down payment request through F-37 which is mostly done with reference to invoice( A request is a notional entry having no financial impact). After realizing the check at due date you post it through F-29 and clear the customer afterwords through F-32. For configuration you must define Special GL indicator in FBKP for customers and mark it as noted item.

  • How to find out the customer exit and sap exit variables created provider?

    Hi all,
How to identify what are all the customer exit and sap exit variables are been created for an info provider. is there any tables which allow us to find out.
    thanxs
    haritha

    Hello haritha,
SAP Exit and Customer Exit variables are created for  Characteristics and not for individual InfoProviders.
So whenever the characteristic is used in the InfoProvider, by selection the appropriate variable the exit can be called.
So the same Exit can be in one or more InfoProviders.
    Hope it helps.
    Thanks,
