  • How to view alert log?

    I tried clicking on the xml alert log, but it goes into IE and tells me "Cannot view xml input using xsl style sheet...Only one top level element allowed in an xml document". I don't see any adrci, and I can't find any text file alert log? trace directory only has files beginning with cdump. database and dbs directories don't have it. And nothing about it in the docs?
    I hope I'm missing something obvious. The database is running. XP Pro SP3.

    Hello Joel,
    the good old text alert log is still there, it just moved a bit. The default location would be ORACLE_HOME\diag\rdbms\xe\xe\trace, e.g. D:\oracle\product\database_xe_11_2\app\oracle\diag\rdbms\xe\xe\trace for the instance on my machine.Yep, that's the trace directory I was looking in, it only has an xml.
    See this thread for further hints: {thread:id=2281565}(You had an extra ampersand in the thread id). Yeah, 'Diag Trace' says same directory.
    Anyone know how to get the css right? I'm clueless about such things.

    I tried to fetch the Logged in user from servlet request but i can't access it giving me null value. Following is the method details that i am using in my servlet.
    protected void doGet(HttpServletRequest request,HttpServletResponse response)throws ServletException, IOException

    Hello,
    I am not aware about any client modal class for log but if you create your own service and host in SP server then you can call this web service in JAVA. (i am not sure whether JAVA supports .NET web service or not).
    You can refer this for web service:

    Hi,
    Regarding to the original question, as BadBoyHouse said, the
    message tracking log may be an option. However, specify maximum age for the message tracking log files: the default is 30 days. It seems that didn’t meet your requirements.
    Meanwhile, did you mean that want to check details of the attachment in the user email? I doubt whether there has such log files on SBS, which can help you to achieve this target.
    In addition, would you please let me know whether all emails of this user had been deleted? Or even this user
    account had been deleted?
    Hope this helps.

  • Alert log.xml or alert.log errors do not appear in EM

    Little puzzled here. Using 11.1.0.6 to test if alert errors will appear on 11.1.0.1 EM Grid pages. Simple ORA-1653 triggered via sql insert and then waited and waited. Nothing. I can use EM to open log file and to display the errors but no alerts are flagged on any of the pages.
    Is this a another bug?

    You can read all about how the 11g alert log is monitored in: Monitoring 11g Database Alert Log Errors in Enterprise Manager [ID 949858.1]
    Yes, it describes some bugs (and workarounds) too.

  • Rogue alert log in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs

    Hi there, have looked all over and not yet found the answer to my query. I have a database instance running at 10.2.0.4.0. There is a rougue alert-{ORACLE_SID}.log created in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs directory when an instance is started. Show parameter background_dump_dest points to the correct directory - $ORACLE_ADMIN/$ORACLE_SID/bdump wether using spfile or pfile.  To confirm what is happening I shutdown the instance and deleted both alert logs from the two locations and restarted the instance. Again two alert logs were created. Can anyone please advise why this is happening. I have found threads suggesting that logs are created in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs as default if parameters are not set correctly, but this is creating an alert log in two locations at startup.

    Adjusting the default value of parameter parallel_max_servers

    Thanks for the reply. The cloned database source looks like it uses spfile on startup on the test box, but as I hadn't checked this at the time it was cloned, the spfile was not copied over, so I'm assuming it would have used the default init.ora created which had the correct dump dest defined. As for the new database, it was created from scratch, so I don't see why this should not work correctly. Unfortunately as I am new to this establishment, I have no history as to how Oracle was installed on either machine or how any of the other databases were created, though I do understand that many may have been cloned.
    So while I can't speak for the databases that already existed on the Dev box, it seemed weird that they all appeared to be doing the same thing.  So I found one that hadn't been started for a while for which there was no historic alert log in dbs and started it to see what happened. It had no spfile, started with pfile and did not create a rogue log. I created an spfile and restarted and still no rouge log.  I ran show paremeters and compared to another similar database that had a rougue log, DASSEN02 v DASSEN04 and the only differences were with the instance name and all the files (bdump, cdump etc) existed correctly. Had a further look ref RMAN as some but not all databases had snapcf files in the dbs directory, but again some that had snap files had rougue alert files and others didn't. Also double checked file permissions on the bdump directory, no issues there. Unexplained issues really do bug me, but I think I'll just have to live with not knowing for now, till I have a spare few hours to look at again.

  • If alert log is deleted, how to restore it?

    Hi,
    I want to know if Alert log is deleted, how to restore it?

    RMAN does not backup the alertlog, only an OS filesystem backup does this. In 11g and higher there are 2 versions of the alertlog, the well-known textfile and now additionally a file in xml format. IF only the text version is lost, command line utility adrci can still access the xml file:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e22490/adrci.htm#BGBBBBEA

  • How to open the alert logs

    Hi Team,
    I am doing database Refreshment. I want to monitor the alert logs.
    Please suggest me, How to open the alert logs. Working on unix server.
    Thanks & Regards,

    if its 10g then go to bdump directory
    you can either do tail -f <alert_log_name>
    or vi <alert_log_name>
    if 11g then you want should go to
    $ORACLE_HOME/diag/$ORACLE_SID
    the alert log file is in XML format as well as a text file. The default location of both these files is the new ADR home or Automatic Diagnostic Respository. The ADR is set by using the DIAGNOSTIC_DEST initialization parameter. The location of an ADR home is ADR_BASE/diag/product_type/product_id/instance_id. If the environment variable ORACLE_BASE is not set then DIAGNOSTIC_DEST is set to ORACLE_HOME/log
    there are different directories for different types of alert log files
    alert - The XML formatted alertlog
    trace - text alert log

  • Which background process writes date into alert log file in oralce

    which background process writes date into alert log file in oralce

    Hi,
    AFAIK, all the background process are eligible for writing information to alert log file. As the file name indicates to show the alerts, so background process have the access rights in terms of packages (dbms), to write to alert log.

  • How to be notified for all ORA- Errors recorded in the alert.log file

    based on Note:405396.1, I Changed the Matches Warning from the default value ORA-0*(600?|7445|4[0-9][0-9][0-9])[^0-9] to ORA-* in order to receive an warning alert for all ORA- errors.
    but I just recieved the alert like the following:
    Metric=Generic Alert Log Error
    Time/Line Number=Mon Feb 25 23:52:21 2008/21234
    Timestamp=Feb 26, 2008 12:06:03 AM EST
    Severity=Warning
    Message=ORA-error stack (1654, 1654, 1654) logged in /opt/oracle/admin/PRD/bdump/alert_PRD.log.
    Notification Rule Name=Alert Log Error
    Notification Rule Owner=SYSMAN
    as you can see, the message only indicate the ORA-1654, nothing else.
    How to set in 10g grid control to get the details alert that in the alert log like:
    "ORA-1654: unable to extend index ADM.RC_BP_STATUS by 1024 in tablespace PSINDEX"
    I can't believe Oracle 10g Grid control only provide the ORA- number without details

    Go to your database target.
    On the home tab, on the left hand side under Diagnostic Summary, you'll see a clickable date link next to where it says 'Alert Log'. Click on that.
    next click on Generic Alert Log Error Monitoring Configuration (its at the bottom)
    In the alert thresholds put:
    ORA-0*(600?|7445|4[0-9][0-9][0-9])[^0-9]
    I believe that will pick anything up but experiment, its only perl.
    If you want to test this use the DBMS_System.ksdwrt package but I would advise you only do so on a test database. If you've never heard of it, google it. Its a way of writing to your alert log.
    Make sure you have your emails sent to long format as well.

  • How to read trace files alerted in the alert.log file

    Hello,
    My alert.log file indicated multiple trace files to review. How to read these trace files to understand the cause of errors. Do I open the trace files with vi and do a search for 'ORA-' error. Are there tools to read and understand trace files. Thank you.

    It depends what kind of trace file it is.
    You can use vi or other text editing tool to open the trace file. The trace file usually provides more detailed information when you have ORA- errors in alert.log. It's also very helpful for Oracle support when troubleshooting.
