How to access media files on home network?

Hi there,
How do I browse my home network files from the N900.
On a windows computer, I am familiar with network neighbourhood or my network places and it's easy to find files on other computer.
But with N900 and linux I don't know where to look.
Anyone have any hints ?

As primarily Mac user I'm sure others will have better solution for you but you would need to install SSH Server on your N900:http://maemo.org/downloads/product/Maemo5/openssh-server/
On your Windows PC you would need to install WinSCP or FileZilla client to allow SFTP connection to your N900. You might find this link of use:http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=41490&page=2

I have a pdf file in a netwoek share drive which opeates on windows platform. I want to access this file. the path to the file looks something like this
acddfd\sap\sapdir\myfile.pdf
I have tried gui_upload , gui_download , ws_upload and ws_download FM. But I am getting file_read error. Is therey any settings i need to made.
I can access the above path from windows menu start->run.

GUI_UPLOAD / DOWNLOAD is the way to go. If you can access the directory/file that doesn't mean necessarily that the R/3 system can 'see' it as well. Your local frontend is connected to that share, but I would check with your basis that the application servers where R/3 is running do have access to that share as well.
Also does the R/3 user you are using have the same access right to the network as your Windows Network user?
We had a similar problem and eventually it was just an authorization issue with the R/3 user.

Ah, it looks like I should have read your title more carefully. Are the files on the PCs that you want to share with your iMac in a shared folder?
If not, follow the steps on this page to set up shares from Windows 7.
If that is already set up, connect to the share from the iMac using this article.

Up until a month ago was able to access media files through wireless, Os is wins 7, HomeHub 2. the curious thing is no problem accessing internet wirelessly, Have reconfigured Homegroup network, changed WEP key, channel no,reset connected devises then for a couple of minutes I actually access my media files then nothing , and nothing since. unable to access Hub manager from desktop icon or internet browser now. Try a factory reset of the homehub by pressing a pin into the recess button on the rear for about 20 seconds. This will put your wireless passkey which is on the homehub label so you will need to either reconnect your devices to the default wireless passkey or change it back to what you had.

Yes, sharing a TM disk is a bad idea, and disks are cheap enough so that you don't need to.

Easy and not depends on your software version:
press Shift+cmd+G while your finder window is open and active, you will get a new window with the field where you can write /etc/hosts
Anyway to edit hosts file you should open it with the sudo command, this can be done in terminal window, not in Finder. Also easy and can be done next way:
press Shift+Cmd+U while Finder window is open and active, then choose Terminal.app, and after it opens enter sudo nano /etc/hosts. You will be asked for password - this is the password you enter then you installing new application. You should know few commands to edit your hosts file:
Previoius page/Next Page of the file - Ctrl+Y/Ctrl+V
Add record - Input the text you need on the last free line of the file and then press Ctrl+O
Delete record - put cursor on the line you want to delete and press Ctrl+K
Undo - Ctrl+U
Exit - Ctrl+X
After edit your hosts file you should update DNS records - in terminal window enter the command dscacheutil -flushcache
But if you really don't know what are you doing, my advice is do not touch your hosts file, ask for professional to do his job. Just like I'm doing usually. )))

I can access my time capsule from my mac mini at work but my macbook can only access it from my home network. how do i fix this?

I have a Mac Mini and a MacBook, both were configured at home to access the time capsule. I have since moved the mini to work to use there and it has no issues looking up files on the time capsule which remains at home. The macbook whoever can only access the time capsule from within the home network. I can't seem to find what I may have done differently. Can anybody help?
Not sure if your allowed to post two questions, but it's may be related. I find that accessing the files on the time capsule from the mac mini or the macbook is very slow. Accessing the same files from an older HP laptop is as fast as accessing its own hard drive. How can I speed up the accessing of these files from my apple products. One would think they would work fast and the 'windows' computers would take minutes to map the drive each time...

This cannot happen by magic though.. you must have configured the mini to access the TC remotely.. which method are you using, BTMM and iCloud??

How is the Macbook configured to access the TC remotely?? If you are trying to use BTMM and iCloud, then it might be a case that with the mini running the connection cannot be done by more than one computer at a time.. this is generally the case although I do not know if that is specifically true of BTMM method. Try turning off the mini and leave it off.. (off not standby)... then reboot the TC when you are at home.. and then try and connect the laptop to the TC the next morning from work. See if it is then able to capture the connection.. if so start up the mini and I suspect it now will not be able to connect.. that will prove that the TC cannot cope with two remote connections.
There also could be another factor in here. If you are accessing the laptop via the same router as the mini is on.. then actually you cannot have two users mount the same files on a TC.. from the same IP address.. as far as the TC is concerned both devices have identical IP, that is the public IP of the work location router.
If you happen to not be using BTMM then the situation is even easier.. you cannot make two different devices connect to the same network resource using the same port. That is the failing of the NAT system.. one device uses the port then it cannot be used by a second device. You will need to do some fancy footwork and use a different port.
Anyhow tell us exactly how you are doing remote access.. otherwise I am just guessing.

Are you talking about files you are hosting on the TC?? Not Time Machine backups??
Can you tell me exactly how you are accessing the TC.. please do a test..
Copy a file to the TC and from the TC using the Laptop.. Use a single very large file, eg 1GB movie file.
Give me a read and write speed.. you can use activity monitor to give me an aprox average speed as well as peak.
Do the same test from the same computer with wireless turned off running ethernet.
Then do the tests from the mini.. same ones.. copy large file to and from the TC by ethernet and by wireless.. when using ethernet make sure wireless is off.
I strongly recommend you set IPv6 to link local only for your wireless and ethernet setup in the Mac.

Now do the test from the HP laptop and give me the results from that.
Is the issue wireless only.. ??
Then you might need to spend a bit of time fixing the wireless in the Macs.. you can run wireless diagnostics in Mavericks.

ITunes cannot access files from home network

Just got new Vista PC. All my music files are on older XP PC. I have set up my home network, and Vista PC can see/access all my XP folders. I have Sonos and Yahoo Jukebox installed on Vista PC and both programs can access the XP music files and play them.
On iTunes however, I cannot create my Music folder with the XP music. When I select 'Add Folder to Library' and get the 'Browse for Folder' popup, I see the 'Network' icon, but when I select it, nothing happens. I can right-click 'Explore' from there to re-launch/see the full network, but iTunes cannot seem to see/access this.
Same problem if I go through iTunes' Preferences/Advanced/General to set the iTunes folder location. I can hit browse and see 'Network' in list, but selecting it produces nothing.
Very surprised that I have no problem through Sonos or Yahoo Jukebox but Apple brakes down.
Any thoughts?
