How to access "storage link" on WRT350N router

I recently purchased a WRT350N wireless router with storage link. One of the main reasons I picked this router was because the salesman told me I could hook up any external hard drive to the router and have the drive accessible on my home network.
I have plugged the external drive into the USB on the back of the router, but I can’t find anyway to access the drive. I have looked through the user’s guide and it didn’t help. I was hoping maybe someone out there could explain this to me.
Thanks in advance!

hi... if you are using win XP system try following steps... click on start >> run >>  \\IP address of the router for e.g. 192.168.1.1 (default IP) it would ask for username and password put "admin" router's default password...one window pops up for flash drive...right click on it and map a network drive...let me know if you have any issues..

i would really appreciate this if someone could tell me how to do it from the first step (choosing partition-should it be one letter only?-->display name-new or existing name?----> and etc...)
    please advice ASAP

    try it this way:
    1. click start>search>computers or people>a computer on the network
    2. in the computer name field, type wrt600n (or the server name you've set for it) then click search
    3. in the column name, click on the wrt600n then login to it using the username and password of the router
    4. the default folder should appear. just open it
    5. you may also right click on the default folder and choose map network drive.

  • Configuring storage link for wrt350n

How do you configure the storage link on a wrt350n?  I have been trying to no success.  Currently I have a flash 1gb drive attached. Once I figure out how to config it I will attach a 500gb hard drive.  If anyone knows of a link to this process or would like to tell me how please do.  Thanks

Once you connect your Storage Drive to your router, you need to login to the Router setup page and click on "Storage" tab,The Disk screen describes the disk currently attached to the Router. Once you are able to see your Storage disk, Size, Then you need to click on Create Share,Under create share you need to give a Shared Name and Select the Partition and click on Create Share. Next step you need to click on "Share" tab and click on "Modify" and you can set the Permissiong for your Users.Once you are done with all this settings.
Go to your computer on which you need to Add that Storage device... Click on Start - Run - and type \\192.168.1.1 and hit enter, and it will prompt you for the Username & Password, Type "admin" as Username and "admin" as Password and once you click Ok, it will display you your storage Partition, Right click on it and select "MAP Network Drive" and check Box "Reconnect at Logon" and click on Finish.
Open your My Computer icon and in that you will be able to see your Storage Drive. Try this i think it might solve the problem.

  • How to Resolve Storage Link Reconnection Problems

I recently installed the WRT610N on a home network and have had major problems getting the Storage Link capability to work.  Initially it worked perfectly.  Then, every time I logged in to the computer, I had to go into My Computer and try to open the "Storage" link so that I could enter a username and password.  It was mind-numbingly frustrating.  After much reading on the Forum and elsewhere on the internet, I've crafted together what seems to be a very stable and easy solution to this problem.
To solve it permanently, you create a batch file that will run whenever you log in.  This batch file will create the link to your network drive.  Here are the steps:
    1.  Open up Notepad (usually under Start:All Programs:Accessories.
    2.  Enter the following two lines:

    CONTINUED (sorry new forum user):
First, you need to open up Notepad and enter two lines.  The first will go something like:
         net use z: \\wrt610n\network_hard_drive /persistent:yes /user:wrt610N\userID  password
In this string, unless you've changed something, the z: represents the drive letter you want the storage link mapped to.  The \\....\ represents the name of the router--it'll be wrt610N unless you changed it.  The part after the \ represents the display name of the storage link share you created.  The underscores would go in place of spaces.  The user part is comprised of the a display name and then a userId you hopefully created within the router settings Storage:Administration.  Then, a space and the password.
On the next line, enter a "y".  The end result of the entire file might look like this:
         net use z: \\wrt610N\network_drive /persistent:yes /user:wrt610\admin 1234
         y
In my case, the WRT610 after user happens to be the shortest of the display names I had established for shares.  Finally, save the file as something like netuse.bat--anywhere you want to put it.
Now, drag a shortcut to the file into your Start:All Programstartup folder.  And repeat for all workstations and users that you need to establish access.
    I hope this helps.

  • Can I just send the data to NIC's buffer in LV? (how to access data link layer?)

Now, I need to send something over network, yet those are not packed in TCP/IP or IPX packet, them are just some data a device can understand.
So the problem I met is seems I cann't send the data into NIC's buffer(I can do that in C, yet I want to use LabVIEW to do that)
And I don't want to do that by using a CIN, every time the program call or exit the CIN,there will be a delay, it's would bring me a bad impace to my application.
So is there anyone can help me with that? I really need some master can give me a comfirm!

I'm not an expert on network communication, so maybe you can explain how data can travel on an IP based network without being wrapped in some packets from a protocol like TCP or UDP? Maybe it's possible for LabVIEW to do what you want, or maybe compiling your C code into a DLL (no need for a CIN) and calling that will be fast enough for what you want.
In any case, I think I can answer one question:
So, how long would we have to expect LV add/improve these functions? Could it be in next minor update?
Not likely, nor is it likely to be in any other version soon. LabVIEW is not built to handle this sort of thing any more than PHP or perl are and I don't think NI will change it to be able to do so. For that you have C, which you can call through a DLL. Some DLLs are supported on RT targets as well, but I'm not sure what the criteria are. They are probably listed somewhere on this site.
I assume that calling a DLL in an RT target will hurt your determinism, but communication code should not be time-critical code, unless your application is an application which requires high speed data transfers and synchronization between different nodes.

  • WRT350N - Transfer speed via Storage link

I have always been curious what the transfer speed others get while using
a USB 2.0 hard drives on their WRT350N.
Obviously there is going to be a drop in transfer speed using storage link but 2-3 Megabyte seems slower then I would expect.   I don't thnk I have ever seen much about 3MB.
I see the same performance wirelessly (connected at 270mb) and hardwired into the gig ethernet port.
Just wanted to get some other peoples results.

It was on both systems. However, I did get it working. Not the way I liked, but it works. What I expected to see was the device hung off the network. That is like another computer. This *is* happening, but where I was confused was the access to it. On other shared resources I can open it at will with no special access rights needed. I'm talking about printers and files on other computers on the network. It turned out to access the Storage Link I had to actually provide a USER ID and PASSWORD before I could use it. Why I couldn't get access before was I had HTTP:\\192.168.1.1 already open in my browser so any other attempts via the web browser used the existing connection. Not until I saw a forum message that said use START=>RUN and enter the IP address or UNC name was I able to connect to it. Since I now know this, a simple bat file with some NET USE's should fix the problem of getting access. Compounding my problem is how I've chosen to manage the network and shares. I use Network Magic, and it can NOT see the Storage Link at all. Anyway, I now know how to access the Storage Link. I was using a Flash drive for testing. I'll next put a USB External drive on and try that out. My ultimate try will be a USB hub and 4 external drives and hopefully I'll have access to all 4 drives to all computers. Irv S.

  • WRT350n storage link itunes problem

There is not enough room on "\\Linksyswrt350n\all_partitions" to copy all of the requested files. iTunes will copy as many files as possible. I know for a fact that I have plenty of room on the drive. It seems itunes is having trouble getting access to the drive... not sure how to fix this

I just bought the wrt350n.  have not hooked it up yet.  I plan on putting a mybook 750gb drive on the storage link and putting my itunes library on it.  how difficult is this?

  • How to create a mp3 playlist compatable with the media server (storage link)

    Hi,
I have setup the wrt160nl wireless router with the latest Firmware Version: 1.00.01 B17.
Everything is working great. I can browse the artists, albums, song titles etc from my usb hard disk.
What isn't working is the play lists.
What format does the play list need to be in?
I assume a text file with the tracks listed like: \music\acdc\back in black.mp3
What file extention or name will the playlist need to be in?
My pnp player only sees two playlists:
    1) playlistlastplayed
    2) playlistmostplayed
If I knew where those play lists were stored on the usb hard drive (or linksys internal ram?) then I might have a clue.....
Thanks for any help on this.

Playlistlastplayed has every track on the hard disk - and I haven't played them all, only like 3
Playlistmostplayed has ONLY 1 track that I haven't played from the linksys upnp server at all
I can play music off the album, artist and song lists fine.
I'd just like to be able to use a play list, and can't seem to find out how to make one.
I realize and understand that the linksys storage link system doesn't create them.
I assume I can make my own text file with track listings and copy the play list to the usb hard drive attached.
I just need to know the format of the text file, and what extention will it need.
    I have tried .m3u .m3u8 .wpl
I don't have iTunes but if you told me I have to download that, import my music into that, then create the playlist there, well, I guess I could try that. I rather not load iTunes if possible.
    Thanks

  • WRT350N Storage Link usage?

Just bought the router and set it up. Works fine for what I had replaced before (G speed). Now I tried to enable the Storage Link. Put a 2GB Flash drive in the unit. It is on, and on the webpage I can see it. However, I can't see it via the LAN? I have Network Magic to 'manage' my network, and it can't see it? However, a NEW VIEW from my computer reports this... ____________ c:\>net view Server Name Remark ---------------------------------------- \\IRVS Gen5 \\LARAINE-HP \\LINKSYSWRT350N LinksysWRT350N The command completed successfully. ------------ The last UNC is the flash drive. Trying to view it reports this : c:\>net view \\LINKSYSWRT350N System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied. I've tried ALL sorts of permissions and group creations. Still noting will allow me to look at it. Network Magic doesn't even see the device as a SHARE? Suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Irv S.

Yes, figured that out. The reason it didn't work before was that I had the Router settings open in the Web Browser and any other attempts to reach 192.168.1.1 didn't ask for a UID and P/W, just opened the main router page. Working now though. Thanks, Irv S.
    Thanks,

  • What Everyone Should KNow and Linksys Should Advertize About WRT350N Storage Link Limitations

I have spent hours with Linksys online chat trying to get my wrt350N storage link to work as advertised. Basically, I want to hook up a 400gb mybook hard drive and use the networked drive to backup my netwroked computers over the wireless network. While I can write individual files to the networked hard drive, and can copy and paste large folders using windows explorer, I can not use backup programs. The netowrked drive reports incorrect information as to its capicity to "my computer" and always shows up as "read only" while some programs don't seem to mind this, every backup program I have used has problems with this clitch.
After several sessions with linksys and having retuend the router to linksys for a new one, this is what technical support said this morning:
"You: ok so if I have you right, the router's storage link is not guaranteed to work at all with >300gb storage devices, does not work at all with 3rd party backup programs, and does not provide a backup program of its own, is that the bottom line?
Tech Support: Exactly. That's its product limitation."
Just so everyone is clear, Linksys does not gauruntee that storage link works at all with drives greater than 300gb, it is not compatable with 3rd part backup progrmas and does not provide a backup program of its own.
This is independant of ntfs vs fat32 and yes I do have the new firmware 1.03.2 and have it correctly installed (linksys checked all of my settings online).
If I am missing something and there are others out there who are gettnig storage link to work with backup software, I would love to know what I am doing wrong, because 7 different linksys tecnical support people have been unable to tell me.
Since Linksys is unwilling to place these product limitations on their packaging, I thought that potential users deserve to know the limitations of this product.

sounds like you are in the same boat I was. I bought the WRT350N to use with my macbook pro and attached a 500gig usb drive to it for remote storage. I got nothing but permission problems copying files. The save usb drive worked fine in a dlink storage box. I took mine back and ordered the

  • How to access more than one client computer behind router

I am new to ARD and have successfully logged on to a client machine at the office. I would like to access another machine behind my router. I am using pors 3283 and 5900 to access initial computer which works find. Can it be done with another computer. I have a fixed IP and run an ethernet network. Not sure what else I can tell you. Hope somebody can help?

If your workstations get their addresses from an NAT device rather than being "real", the ports also need to be forwarded in the router to the workstation's internal IP address. ARD uses port 3283 for the reporting and updating function, so if your Macs are getting their IP addresses through NAT, since you can only forward a port to a single workstation, as of today you can only get reports, push package/files to etc. for a single workstation.
ARD uses the VNC protocol for observation and control, though, and there are a range of IP addresses for that protocol, starting with 5900. ARD uses 5900 by default, so that port would be forwarded to the first workstation. You would, I believe, need to install VNC servers on the systems (since the ARD client cannot listen on any port other than 5900 while VNC servers can be set for other ports such as 5901, 5902, etc. You would then forward 5901 to the second workstation (and on to 5902, 5903, etc.). You can then use the following information:
Remote Desktop 2: How to specify a port number for a VNC client
    to connect.
The only other options available now are: 1) to run the ARD administrator on a workstation on the network, and then take control of that system from outside, either via VNC or another copy of ARD, or 2) set up a virtual private network (VPN) so that when you connect from outside, your admin system is officially part of the local network.
    Hope this helps.

How do i access my photos that were saved in icloud storage from before i had to reset everything. I know the photos can still somehow be accessed because icloud showed that space was being taken up for photos straight after i had reset the device and there were no photos there on the device at the time.
