How to access USB drive on e4200 remotely

Hello,
I recently bought a e4200 v2 and installed connect cloud. I have attached a USB drive to the router. I can connect to it by mapping a network drive on my windows 7 laptop. I can also access it as a media server through my iPad on the local wifi network. This way I can play the music on the USB drive through the iPad. The next thing I would like to accomplish is to be able to listen to the music on the USB drive through the internet (so remotely). Is that even possible?
Regards and thanks,
Steven

Hi there. That is actually possible. When you open your CCC go to USB Storage and set Enable FTP Server to ON. It is important as well to have a public internet ip address on the router which means coming from your internet service provider. For other cases, it is static so that it will not change. Are you by the way on Cable internet or DSL internet service? If you are example on DSL internet and your internet ip address from your ISP is private (192.168.1.4) then remotely accessing anything from your router is not possible you have to set the dsl modem to full bridge in order for it to work. To verify your internet ip address using CCC, go to Connectivity on the side panel and it comes up with a page and click on Internet Settings up on top.   And say you wish to access the music files on your windows 7 laptop remotely, you have to set a static ip address to that computer and forward port 21 (default for ftp) on the router. Usually the address that you will type in on the address bar on your remote device is ftp://publicwanip. By the way, you may refer to the links below I found from Cisco's public kb site.

  • E1550 - unable to access USB drive with Ubuntu

I am probably overlooking something real obvious but after screwing around for two hours I figure I need some help.
I am running Ubuntu 14.04. I have set up the E1550 router with an external drive that I formatted with the router utility. At this point I do NOT have an internet connection hooked to the router - I am not sure I want to for now. What I would like to do is to be able to access, wirelessly, a drive that multiple users can use to back up their important files onto.
I have tried using anonymous disk read/write access as well as creating shares. All the features seem to be setting up ok but at this point I have no clue how to access the drive.
I have tried using the Ubuntu files utility and then selecting 'browse network' followed by selecting 'windows network'. Alas, 'windows network' is an empty file with no drive present.
I have tried accessing the router wirelessly and also hard wired - no joy.
Am I maybe not acessing the drive properly through Ubuntu? Do I need to mount the remote drive rather than accessing it through the windows network ?
Thanks in advance for any pointers given !
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I am not expert with Ubuntu OS but have you tried to map the drive on your computer? I have no idea how to do that using Ubuntu but if you're using Windows or Mac, you can simply follow the steps from Linksys KB. It usually helps me when I am trying to enable file-sharing capabilities within my network.

  • How can I access USB drive on AirPort Extreme with iPad

Good day. I recently purchased an AirPort Extreme, and am very pleased. I thought I would take advantage of the ability to store files and videos of my children on my USB drive on the router. Installation was flawless, however, i cannot access the USB drive with my IPad. I have seen several postings about this, am i correct in reading that this is not possible without a 3rd party app? If that is the case, could someone point me in the right direction?

Have you tried this? (And is the Airport new enough that you can call Apple?)
*Manually mounting Mac OS Extended (HFS+) volumes*
*From the Finder's Go menu choose Connect to Server.*
*Enter the AirPort Extreme Base Station's LAN IP address (by default 10.0.1.1).*
*Enter the username and password required to access the AirPort Disk(s).*
*Select the desired AirPort Disk(s) from the available Volumes.*
    *Manually mounting FAT16/FAT32 volumes*
*From the Finder's Go menu choose Connect to Server.*
*Enter the AirPort Extreme Base Station's LAN IP address preceded by smb:// (for example, smb://10.0.1.1 )*
*Enter the username and password required to access the AirPort Disk(s). Leave the Workgroup field empty unless you have assigned one in AirPort Utility.*
*Select the desired AirPort Disk from the available CIFS (Common Internet File System) volumes*

  • How to access USB HD on Windows?

I am able to connect to my usb hardrive on the mac's on my network, but I am unable to see the drive on the windows. What or how do I do access the drive?

Ok, let's double-check the file sharing setup on your AEBSn...
AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) - File Sharing Setup
Either connect to the AEBSn's wireless network or temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to one of the LAN ports of the AEBSn, and then, using the AirPort Utility in Manual Mode, check these settings:
    Disks - File Sharing
    - Secure Shared Disks: <With disk password | With base station password | With accounts >
(Note: Choose "With a disk password," or "With base station password" if you want to secure the shared disk with a password, or choose "With accounts" if you want to secure the disk using accounts.
If you choose to use accounts, click Configure Accounts, click the Add button, and then enter a name and password for each user that will access the disk.)
    - Guest Access: <Not allowed | Read only | Read and write>
    - Share disks over Ethernet WAN port: (unchecked)
(Note: Select the "Share disks over Ethernet WAN port" checkbox if you want to provide remote access to the disk over the WAN port.)
    - Advertise disks globally using Bonjour: (unchecked)
    - Workgroup: <Windows workgroup name>
    - WINS server: <WINS server IP address>

    1. Just plug them in. The drives need to be formatted as FAT16, FAT32, or Mac OS Extended (Journaled), and may need to be connected through a powered USB hub.

  • Accessing usb drive from a connection kit

I have a thing called 'HDMI & AV Connection Kit for iPad' I plugged it into my iPad 3 and put a USB flash drive into the USB hole. How do I access the USB flash drive from the iPad? I cannot find a way to navigate to it.
If anyone knows what I do, or what app I need to get to do this I would be very grateful
    Thanks
    Dave

You can't. Not in the way I think you want it.
The CCK will only work to import photos and videos. You could put some photos on a USB drive and then import htem into your iPad. Those photos must follow a very rigid naming convention (be in a folder named DCIM and have a file name of exactly 8 characters, like DSC_4483, same with movies)
there is no protocol to import documents or the such. and there is no protocol to export anything with the CCK.

  • How to enable USB drive and CDwrite in Trusted Solaris.

    hello
I installed Trusted Solaris extensions in an X86 desktop and after that the cdwrite disappeared, the usb drive is not detected.
How do I enable the CD writer and the zip drive ? I have a file to be copied urgently, the USB drive doesn't work, the CD writer is not seen on the menu and internet / email is still not functional on this desktop
If there are some commands to be typed, please give me step by step instructions with command syntax and if there is a file to be altered please let me know where to find that file to be altered.
    Thank you.

    Hi Amit,
It's the same for Solaris. Take care about the line breaks in the document (sometimes one command seems to be two commands, it's one with parameters) and there is also a small bug: On page 6, step 5, it must read "Directory = topicmaps/example" (as printed in the screenshot).
    Hope it helps

  • How to access hard drive on mac pro desktop from laptop?

I sold my Mac monitor and wireless keyboard. Now I want to sell my Mac Pro Desktop, but I need to wipe the hard drive first. How can I turn it on and access the drive from my Mac laptop?

It will show up as a drive, you can just access the drives on the desktop provided you turned on disk sharing. You can't access the "desktop".. If you had previously turned on screen sharing then you could use that via network connection.
If you can find the file that has preferences and then edit it then you can change to startup in Target disk mode. I do not know the file or how to edit it.
    GSC818 wrote:
If I can start it from the button, then can't I connect to my laptop via firewire or Ethernet and would it show up as an external drive? Then I could change the startup disk in the preferences panel on my laptop. Would that work?

  • [SOLVED]How exactly are USB drives mounted?

When I plug in a USB drive, Cinnamon brings up the device in Nemo so I can see its files. The location it's mounted at is /run/media/<username>/<long string I assume to be a UUID>/. How is it that I can mount it again at another directory and use it from there? Also, when I unmount it from the second directory, is it already safe to remove it or do I need to unmount it from the first one as well?

That's the way I had it on my 8.04. I remember having to set that myself though.

I had it mounted at that default location and then I had mounted it onto ~/mnt (I recreated /mnt in my home directory)
tomk wrote:You seem to lack some understanding about your own system. If your USB devices are automounted when you plug them in, that's because you configured your system to do that. The fact that you are asking how that works should worry you IMO.
I never configured my system to do that. When I used Arch and XFCE, I don't remember USB drives being automatically mounted. I had to do it myself. Cinnamon apparently does it automatically. What I wanted to know was why, if it does it automatically, does mount not give me an error about trying to mount the same partition again in a different place.
    Thanks for your answers everybody.

  • How to install USB driver for Windows?

I'm trying to connect my LG VS980 phone to a Windows XP computer. I'm having difficulty installing the USB driver.
After following several false trails, I found what I think is the right file: on a "Product Support" page which says it's for a "G2 Verizon VS980," there's a button labeled, "Install the USB DRIVER / USB DRIVER for Windows / DOWNLOAD." I clicked the button and downloaded a file 8 MB file. Its name is LG. Not LG.exe or LG.msi or LG.zip. Just LG.
When I double click the file, Windows quite reasonably asks me what program to use to run it. I don't know what program to use any more than Windows does.
There's a link labeled "Instructions... LG G2 VS980 SOFTWARE UPDATE below the download button. When I click it, it loads instructions for installing software on the phone.
Can anyone make sense of this for me?

    Orthoducks wrote:
I'll so my best to answer the questions.
    >...what you're looking to do a transfer with...?
Initially I want to download pictures taken with the phone's camera. I've considered other uses for a USB connection that I can explore once it's working. I'm puzzled by the question, though. Why should the type of data I want to transfer affect the fact that I can't find an installable driver? I wonder whether my question means the same thing to you as it does to me.
Because photos and music are the basic media people want to transfer between their phones and computers. (Computers in this sense are laptops, desktops, note books etc.) So the question to you was valid.
    >Also, have you tried any other computers?
No. Again, I'm puzzled. What difference would another computer make? Would I be able to find a download from one computer that I can't find from another? (Only by blind chance.) Might another computer be able to execute or load a file with no filetype? (Only if it has magical powers.)
Different computers may work where the computer you own evidently does not work. It is good to check the connection of the device to another computer to rule that out. I will answer the obvious of different operating systems and how they function.
    >And which software version if your phone currently running?
That question makes sense. Unfortunately I can't answer it. I've looked up how to find the version number, and the instructions tell me to select an "About phone" item in the Settings menu, which doesn't exist.
Doesn't exist? open the Settings Menu go all the way to the bottom (scroll down) the last entry is "ABOUT PHONE" click it. It will give hardware and software versions operating system number etc. Its there trust me. My wife just bought this phone and loves it.
    >Often times, the device drivers you're prompted to install are supported solely by the computer's software.
I'm not sure what you're saying here. Taken at face value, it's a trivial and obvious: any driver that one installs on any computing device is supported solely by (i.e., depends on) the device's software. But how does that relate to the question about the version of Android? Android runs on the phone; the driver has to run on the computer.
You stated you are using an older Windows XP computer, I can tell you I hooked my wife's phone to our Windows 8.1 computer and no drivers were necessary. It came up with an option on the phone screen and I chose USB Mass Storage for the connection. This option is also in the phones settings. Read the manual it has loads of information form you to use.
The device had a drive letter assigned and it was labeled LG-Network and once you double click it the folders for music, photos, etc. are all there. Via using windows manager you can simply do a copy and paste to and from the different folders and drives with ease.
    Good Luck

  • Security question, how to disable USB drives?

Hi. We´re implementing security measures on our small office, and in the account settings I´ve disabled cd burning for a given account, but I also want to diable the use of USB drives except for the compnay one. Is there a way to achieve this? Thanks

Just FYI no matter how many securities you put on a USB port, there is always a way around it, but you can buy usb lock plug ins online. They are called USB locks. I don't know where to find them off the top of my head. they plug into the usb connector in the back of your computer.

Funny how Apple tech support can never solve anything.  After an hour, they'll finally say, force quit everything, restart then restore to factory defaults.  That's the common workflow.  Get out the big hammer.

  • How to share USB drives from iMac to Macbook?

I have an iMac that has 2x500GB external USB 2.0 drives connected. I want to be able to access these drives via my Macbook as I have my entire Photo collections as well as iTunes on them.
I have turned on file sharing on both systems, I am able to connect form my Macbook to the iMac using:
    afp://imac.local
However it will only display the "Macintosh HD" and "<Username>" mounts, that's all.
I am also authenticating using my iMac administrator account.
If anyone can help, please fill me in. I am also assuming this can be done, I mean its simply 2 USB drives being shared, shouldn't be too dificult.
    Thanks a lot

If all you need to do is share your iPhotos and iTunes libraries, then there is an easier way. Open each apps preferences, click on the Sharing icon in the respective toolbars, check the box to share the library with all local machines on your network.
Otherwise, what you've done appears to be working. You say the shared machine is mounting. You should then be able to access the mounted disk volume. When you log in to the 'server' computer you must use a username and password of an existing account on the 'server' machine otherwise you will be logged in as 'guest' and have limited access.
