How to achieve a roundtrip with Photoshop

Is there a method to re-import a PS file in Captivate? The problem with existing roundtrip with PS is that it is limited to layers that exist in PS during import. So after importing PS file (either as Flattened Image or as Multi Layer) and making some adjustments to the original file, the adjustments are not reflected in Captivate after Updating from Source. I guess that re-importing the file would do the job, but there seems no way of doing it. This makes the "roundtrip" very limited. Sure I can delete the file from Captivate and import once again, but then all effects and time settings are lost and needs to be re-applied.
[Edit] It seems that using Layer Comps *does* allow to make adjustments in PS and have them reflected in Captivate. So far it works for me, fingers crossed, hopefully it won't break sometime after making more adjustments. But still, importing without Layer Comps (only using Last State) is not working as expected.

First of all, good to hear that it's working for you. There is hope then. Maybe I just do something wrong. Here is what I do:
1. Use eLearning suite 2.5 (the newest one)
2. Create a PS file with one layer. No layer comps (it works ok with layer comps, so no point in testing it)
3. In Captivate Insert->Image and choose the PS file, import as Flattened Image (it doesn't work importing as Layers, either)
4. Add an adjustment layer in PS, like Hue/Saturation
5. Save in PS
6. In Captivate, right-click the file and Update from source. No change in hue - **roundtrip not working**.
7. Save Captivate project, close everything, just in case.
8. Open Captivate project and right-click the imported file and Edit PSD Source file.
9. In Photoshop, see the file has the hue adjustment, as it should. Change something, only to be able to save.
10. Save the PS file and return to Captivate - no change at all. **Roundtrip not working**.
11. Eventually right-click in Captivate and Update from source. See a message saying that source is up to date.
I just did all these steps once again. Why isn't it working?
[Edit] I just discovered that it is not working correctly with layer comps, either. Working ok in some simple cases. But in a file where I added new layers, deleted some old ones etc, the new layers are not visible in Captivate. I'll re-import with layer comps but this time import as Layers and not Flatten Image and see what happens.
[EDIT]     *** an idea ***
Hmmmmm... Maybe I understand the roundtripping incorrectly. Here is an idea: after first importing as Flatten Image, there appears FlatImage1 item under filename.psd folder in Captivate. This item is on the slide. OK.
Then, after adding a new layer in PS and Updating from source, there are additional items in filename.psd folder in Captivate, Layer3 and Layer4 (the new layers). Perhaps the "roundtripping" expects me to add those new layers to the slide ?? Is it the designed, correct way to do it? It works then, when I add new layers to the clide, but of course the layers act as new images, so coordinates, timing and effects are gone and must re-create the stacking order. I was expecting that the image already existing on the slide will get updated, so actually, that the FlatImage item will get updated as a snapshot of what is in PS file

One way : use the filter : correct camera distortion. Move the remove distortion slider towards left (barrel distortion)
Or, first increase the canvas size to a square format bigger than the larger dimension of the image and play with the filter : distort, spherize.

  • In Safari How to open an Image with PhotoShop

    Hi everyone.
    I need your help, advise...
I have a html page with this tag:
    Image
    CFD is a Share
If I use Explorer when I click the link (using the File Helpers) the image is open with PhotoShop. I need the same functionality in Safari, is there a way to do that...?
Or how can I accomplish this task?
    Thank you for your help.
    jhpe.

Thanks for your response. I've just started with Javascript scripting in Photoshop so I'm still just a bit confused though .
The code you've provided will return the location on my computer of where the script resides, am I right? And since the script and the images are in the same folder, this should mean a relative address is obtainable?
How could I use this in connection with:
    var fileRef = new File("image01.jpg");
    var docRef = app.open(fileRef);
where image01,jpg is the image I'd like to open in the same folder as the script?
    Thanks again for your help.

  • How do I open HELP with Photoshop Elements12?

Hi, I haven't used PSE in awhile and recently bought PSE release 12 so I went through looked at the Users manual, view the Online videos and wanted to check on HELP and the dropdown menu Photoshop Elements HELP (PF1) but nothing happened. I did this is in all three modes (Quick, Guided and Expert) but "help" did not appear so my question is, how do I open HELP with PSE12?
    Thanks,

P.S.- my objective (what I was looking for) were the step by step instructions on how to straighten a photo

To automatically straighten the image and leave the canvas around the image, choose Image >> Rotate >> Straighten Image.
The straightened image contains areas of blank background, but no pixels are clipped.
To automatically straighten and crop the image, choose Image >> Rotate >> Straighten And Crop Image.
The straightened image does not contain areas of blank background, but some pixels are clipped.
If you have a photo with an horizon you can drag a line along it with the straighten tool.
Click Help on the top menu bar for the on-line help files.

    Hi Christoph and WarriorAnt,
Thank you both for the replies.
I don't know anything about GarageBand because I've never used it. I've never used any music software before, (other than iTunes, Ha!)
I don't have GarageBand on my Mac because it wasn't stock on the old Powerbook G4, so I would have to buy it. I'm happy to do that if I can figure out that it does what I want ... but I'm overwhelmed by the info at Apple's site. Too much for a beginner like me. Even the wikipedia.com entry for GB uses too many terms I don't know, so I'm easily lost.
I just want to be able to set up drum loops and play along with them. The main thing is that I'm able to use third party loops. There are so many really amazing loop products out there ... jungle drums, acoustic jazz drums, lounge, etc. I don't want to get caught up in anything proprietary (like Band-In-A-Box) because the selection is limited. I'm sure GarageBands loops are great, but I want access to all these other third party loops as well ... loops that were not specifically made for GarageBand.
Will GarageBand let me drop in any and all drum loops from these other companies?
And does GarageBand work like a basic sequencer, where I can program up an intro, X number of measures of a loop, then a turnaround, then a variation loop, then an ending, etc?
I know the high-end stuff like Native Instruments Kontakt does this, but unfortunately it also does a kazillion other professional-level things I will never need and don't want to pay for (and which make the software more complex and daunting).
Thank you again, both of you, for responding and helping me with this project.
Just a little more advice on those two questions would really go a long way.

  • How to make iPhoto sing with Photoshop

I'm having trouble getting iPhoto to recognize the edits I made Photoshop to RAW files. The photos are loaded into iPhoto and PS is set as the external editor. When I make the RAW adjustments, PS will save an XMP file in my library but the changes don't reflect in iPhoto. If I double click the image in iPhoto it will load the revised photo in Photoshop. Any ideas?

Really you need to choose between Lightroom and iPhoto.
They are both designed to manage your photos, and using more than one manager can cause confusion - especially when they are quite unaware of each other. By that I mean that LR has no understanding of the iPhoto Library and Photo can make no sense of the xmp files that LR produces.
My 2 cents: Lightroom is a pro level app and much more powerful than iPhoto, especially when dealing with RAW files.
There is a plug-in - http://www.suffix.be/blog/lightroom-iphoto-export/ - which facilitates moving processed pics from LR to iPhoto, for those occasions when you may need to do something in iPhoto.
I don't want the photos to be copied to the lightroom library.
You can set any folder to be the Library. You can decide where to store he files.
I want Lightroom to reference the files in iPhoto.
    That’s just plain impossible.
    Regards
    TD

  • How to achieve less smoothing with brush strokes and wacom?

Is there a smoothing setting for brushes? When I draw certain shapes with sharper corners (like squares) illustrator rounds them out very excessively. I know there has to be a certain amount of smoothing to convert a stroke made by the user into a vector, but is there a way to reduce the amount. Interestingly, if I draw the shape really fast, I get the desired result, however if I draw slowly, it rounds it tremendously. I would think it would be the other way around because with a slower stroke you are giving more input points and therefore more precision but this is obviously not the case. Basically, I want to achieve brush strokes that more accurately represent my input. Thanks in advance for the help.

thanks so much for the quick reply! It couldn't be any easier. I just lowered the fidelity setting to the minimum and it is behaving perfectly.

  • FAQ: How do I use Revel with the Elements 12 Organizer (Mobile Albums)?

FAQ: How do I use Revel with Photoshop Elements 12 Mobile Albums?
Photoshop Elements lets you upload your media to Adobe® Revel and then access it from any device. Media already present in your Revel libraries is downloaded into Elements Organizer, so that you can work with it. Adobe Revel is an app that lets you store your media in the cloud and share it privately or publicly. See the links below for additional informtion about using Elements 11 and Premiere Elements 12 with Revel.
If you check the option to make all your Elements photos and videos available in Mobile Albums, then Elements will move everything over to Mobile Albums, and upload it all to your Revel Library. Note that with mobile albums if you delete an image it will be deleted inElements and Revel.
If you have some mobile albums that you only want in elements and you have already made them mobile albums, there is a way to move them back. You can drag and drop a mobile album onto a local category. Media in the mobile album is downloaded as it exists in Revel and stored locally. Subsequentally, the downloaded media is deleted from Revel. You can select one or more of the photos in the Elements Organizer and right click on one of them and select Remove From Revel at the bottom of the list. That will move them out of Revel, and keep them in the Elements Organizer.

Also, bear in mind that few users of the full version of Photoshop are familiar with Photoshop Elements or Organizer, so many of us won't even know exactly what you mean.
I have to get back on this, Just recently bought Elements and Premiere for Mac (actually more for fun and possible use for a minor workshop, not for my professional workflow) and only had a short glance at it.
Just glanced at it again (still briefly) but there is a difference that you can't use in Bridge.  Organizer has some shortcuts to fix images and creates a new version of the original.
This is not possible in Bridge. Also the Output Module in Bridge has a different approach to the create section in Organizer.
For me Bridge is the right tool and I'm sure "tweetybird" will benefit also after having learned a bit.
Especially the menu tools/Photoshop and the options in there will give better results (and far more control) to 'fix' ( I rather speak of optimize ) files to your satisfaction
But If you still need options from the create section that you will not have in the Output Module there is no objection to use Organizer for this by pointing it to the folder with finished files.
Its just a matter of the right tool for the right job

  • Referenced Vs. Managed work with Photoshop editing

How Referenced Vs. Managed work with Photoshop editing
    1) My photos are saved on a local hard drive
    2) IF, When editing with Photoshop i like to save over the original since i never like the original to begin with.
    3) Any I make other light changes like filters I do not save over the original.
Where do the Photoshop edit versions go.  i tried playing with just one Folder. Imported one folder as managed and one as referenced..... and can't find the edited version? Am I saving it wrong? I tried TIFF I tried Jpeg…..
Also when i imported the folder as a managed file i still saw the original folder under "pictures" does that mean it's on my hard drive twice, once in Pictures and once in the Aperture Library? That would take up too much space.
    Thanks in advance, Orly

I just wish i could figure out the Photoshop part.....
I want to continue using it while i am learning Aperture..... But the copies desapear POOF. It only reflects if I work in Managed and Save it as "Replace".
The option to 'Replace' sounds like you are using Photoshop Elements?
I run the full version of Photoshop (which doesn't have a 'Replace' command), so I don't know the full extent of the saving options of PS Elements. I do know there are a few preference options for importing and saving which can change the behavior so you might check with the PS Elements help system if that is what you are running.
Also, you might check the thread linked below for some tips:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/20310393#20310393
Note - with the full version of Photoshop (I use CS6); the process is as William specified where one needs to use the 'Save' command to save the file directly back to Aperture to reflect the edits. There is also an Apple provided tip here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5128
    Hope this helps.
