How to activate Intel Speedstep on Satellite L300-1BD?

Hi,
today i bought the Toshiba L300 - 1BD Vista is preinstalled.
To enhance my batterylife, i changed vista to "classical design" and the energy option to "power save".
Although it doesn't use Intel Speedstep technology.
When I run the utility: CPU-Z, it shows that the CPU Speed is on 2000 Mhz. Normally, when the CPU is idle, it should change the multiplier to low, which shout result in about 1000mhz. This saves much battery!
Does anybody know, why it is not working, or how to get it working?
Thanx and Greetz from Germany!

Are you sure the CPU supports the Intel Speed Step technology?
I googled a little bit and it seems that this unit was equipped with the Celeron-575 (Merom-2.00GHz) 667MHZ CPU
And Im 100% sure that this CPU *DOESNT* support Speed Step.

  • Satellite L300 1BD - VGA output is not working

    Hello.
I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 1BD (Model PSLB8E). I was usinng the VGA output to connect to my LG tv. It worked fine until last week. All of a sudden the TV doesn't get reckognized by the laptop anymore. The TV says that no external device is connected. I have tried different things: starting up with the TV connected and not connected through the VGA cable, pressing the FN+F5 button, removing the battery and pressing the powerbutton, checked for the latest videodriver, removed the existing driver and installed it again...unfortunately without any result. I also tried to hook the TV up with a different VGA cable, but no result. It's not the TV, because i did try to hook the laptop up to a TFT monitor and it didn't work as well. Tested the VGA cable with my friends laptop: it works perfect.
The strange thing is: if i hook the TV up to the laptop, i can hear the laptop is making the 'new hardware detected' sound and the laptopscreen even turns black for a second, then everything appears back on the laptopscreen. If i check the graphic properties with the rightclick on my desktop, i can see that they are no set for 'clone device'. As if the laptop knows, something is connected, but just can't transfer the image to the TV screen.
The graphic adapter is a Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset family.
The OS is Vista Home Basic (32).
It's a shame the VGA output seems to be out of order since i watch tons of video's and movies through my laptop on the TV screen. I don't know if this could be a software or a hardware malfunction. If anyone has an idea or some clue, please let me know. Thanks in advance!
    Marcin.

I would like to give my 2 cents to this post (and the answers from Toshiba):

I have exactly the same L300 19F with the same graphic adapter, only with Windows 7 Ultimate (32) and was watching DVD's through my Toshiba TFT TV-set/VGA Monitor for a couple of years as well as all of a sudden it doesn't work anymore. The same as the gentleman who started this thread I checked everything there is to check: my laptop/another screen, another laptop/my screen, drivers, new cable, even installed the (original and licensed) W7 OS again etc. etc. etc. TO NO AVAIL !!!
Since this is the first time that I can't solve a technical computer problem in more then 25 years I got mad and started to think what the heck I did different over the last few weeks, and now I think I know the culprit.
One day, a few months ago, I saw a warning in my screen to flash my BIOS with a new upgrade from the Toshiba website. Having seen that message for several months I did not give it much attention because everything worked fine, and the reason given for the update was a quote "password protection update" unquote, a function I don't use anyway and that's why I didn't run that fast.
After a while I decided to flash the BIOS, just to get rid of the annoying message and now I am quite sure that it really did kill my VGA output capabilities.
So, instead of the nice "Check your Power Cord" and "Go to the Official Toshiba Dealership" hints, maybe there is some technical solution. Maybe there might even be a nice technical Toshiba person have a look into the BIOS update and what the heck the differences are with the old one.
At the very least you could offer a "downdate" of the current valid BIOS for this type, because everything used to work pretty good and, as a 25 year long time customer of Toshiba laptops, I could be entitled to a little better (quality) answer.......
My friend Marcinondrums and I still have hopes.
    Thank you !!

  • How to determine which chipset my Satellite L300/700 has?

I have a SATELLITE L300/700 (PSLB8A-047004). The User Guide covers several models. It indicates that the chipset determines which memory modules I need for a memory upgrade. How do I find out which chipset I have, please?
    Kev.

    > I'm still curious about how to determine which chipset I have - any thoughts?
Go to the device manger and click on IDE Ata/Atapi controllers:

There you will see your chipset installed on your laptop. In my case, as shown on the screenshot is Intel ICH9m

  • Re: How to connect camcorder to my Satellite L300-1AD?

    Hi everyone
I hope someone out there can help me - my problem is driving me mad!!
I have a Satellite L300 1AD(?) laptop and I am trying to connect my camcorder to it so that I can watch and edit my holiday videos. Apparently I can't use a USB cable and need an "i link" cable or firewire cable. However, I can't find where to connect it onto the PC. Also there are so many different "pin" variations.
Am I able to do this at all? I know I am female but I consider myself to be quite good usually at things like this. If you need anymore info please let me know.
Please help - I am getting desperate?? I want to see the koalas and kangaroos in Oz!!
    Thanks in anticipation

    Hello
Your notebook model is not known to me but if your notebook doesnt have firewire port (i-LINK) you must use expresscard solution.
It is something like cards shown on http://www.synchrotech.com/products-expc/expresscard-firewire_00.html
Talk with your local dealer. Explain exactly what you want to do and I hope he can helps you.

  • Satellite 3000-514: How to activate Intel WLan 2200BG hardware button

    Hi.
I have a Toshiba Satellite 3000-514 and an Intel Centrino Mini-PCI WLan card. (Intel???® PRO/Wireless 2200BG) Running win-XP and Ubuntu on it.
Is there a solution to sidestep the problem, that the wlan-software wants me to push a hardware-button to activate wireless lan, that my Laptop just don't have?
In a german forum someone mentioned solving the problem by using "easy button", a program I already downloaded from Toshiba.
But you can only choose .exe files to be connected to a button. Is there an .exe file to make the software think I pushed that not existion wlan-hardwarebutton?
    *sigh* Help!?
Thanks in advance. Sorry for my bad english.

    Hm,
sounds tricky. I have no software solution for you, but I have an alternative solution for you.
Since you are a german guy, you can check/read this:
    ttp://cgi.ebay.de/54Mbit-ATHEROS-802-11g-b-G-Wi-Fi-WLAN-MINI-PCI-KARTE-RG_
    W0QQitemZ250170200040QQihZ015QQcategoryZ79551QQssP ageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem]
Its an atheros card like I have in my Tecra 9100. So, I had many many problems with intel card since they require a full working centrino
platform to work and so most of these cards need a "hardware" switch (in your case a button) to work.
With the atheros card you dont have these problems with switch/button since they are working anytime without need of switches or buttons.
The disadvantage is that you cannot disable the card for power saving purposes.
So I hope I could help you. Would appreciate some feedback. :)
    Nice weekend.

  • How can I unistall Vista from Satellite L300-11Q and install Windows XP

    Hello!
Help please: How can I unistall Windows Vista from my notebook and install Windows XP?
Should I do something with discs and BIOS before it, or I can just format disc C and then install XP from CD-disc?
How can I make a recovery disc before uninstalling Vista?
    Thank you very much!

    Greetings,
I had such a hard time finding exact information on downgrading Vista to XP recently, I'm posting this on several different threads in hopes I can save others some time and effort; sorry for cross-posting.
When installing XP over Vista, instead of worrying over getting Intel Matrix Storage, streamlining a CD with it and SPII, blah, blah, blah, why not just go into BIOS at startup and switch the SATA setting under Advanced Disk Management from (whatever the default is) to "Compliant"? This allows the XP install to see the drive as an IDE, (actually ATA), and POOF! Your problems are solved with a LOT less hassle. (The XP install disk DOES have to have Service Pack II on it.)
I just did this over the past weekend, and it worked great. (Actually I didn't have much of a choice, as the processor on my Toshiba is an AMD, not Intel, so all the downloading and configuring CD's with matrx storage in the world wouldn't have done me a bit of good; the AMD processor "chipset" is contained within the graphics driver setup.)
Save yourselves a lot of time and headaches and forget the whole matrix storage thing. As far as I can tell it would also work with an Intel processor, but since you can "turn SATA off", IMHO it's a huge waste of time mucking around with the matrix storage. If you want full SATA configuration after all's said and done, you can always go back in and turn the BIOS switch back to SATA after you have XP up and running and have just used the executable to install the matrix drivers.
    Cheers,

  • How to activate web cam on Satellite C660-C660D?

I cant get my webcam built in to work on Satellite C660D/C660. Do I need to switch it on or download a driver?
    Help

    Hiya
is the operating system the factory installed system eg:- the system that was installed when you bought it
or when it was purchased from new ??
if so hopefully you could press the start key then all programmes and search for toshiba and click on them and you may find the webcam
also if it is the factory os then you should be able to go to:-
start programes or all programes toshiba/toshiba recovery/software
and re install the webcam if it is not working
this link i believe will take you to a site to download the user guide if this is not in your programes
    http://www.pdfuu.com/toshiba-satellite-c660-manual-users-guide-and-troubleshooting.html
    or go to :- www.toshibasupport.co.uk
then use the dropdown boxes to find your model no and then find your os and then the webcam driver
you could always use skype to take photos with your webcam or download a free app ( desktop webcam )
i hope you can get it sorted

  • How to enter BIOS on new Satellite L300?

    Hi
Just bought today.... I am anxious to install other operating systems but can't figure how to enter BIOS to enable it to boot from CD.
    Any help appreciated

    Hi.
Have you read the User Manual? I think it will be somewhere in the book. However, for this gen, you can access BIOS by F2 and boot up list with F12
    Enjoy.

  • Need new HDD for Satellite L300-1BD

    Hey,
the HDD in my Toshiba Satellite laptop isn't working anymore.
So I'm going to buy a new one today but which one do i need? Like how many inch? And is it a SATA connection or something?
Could someone please tell me to what i have to look when I buy a new HDD for this laptop

    Hello Vivendi
One thing is strange to me: I presume that your L300 notebook is pretty new one and I don't understand why you want to buy new HDD. Is warranty still valid?
Please check it. If the warranty is still valid contact nearest authorized service provider and I am sure you will get replacement for free.
If you want to buy it I also presume you want to replace it alone. So, remove the old HDD and on the white label you will find all necessary information about HDD.
Anyway, you need 2,5 SATA HDD.

  • Satellite L300-1bd LCD backlight does not work properly

    Hi,
A few days ago, the backlight of my l300 stopped to function properly.
I have tried turning it on a few times, and sometimes it briefly lights up and then goes off again.
Any idea's on what my next move should be?
I called a repairshop, and the guy i spoke to told me they would charge 50 euro's just to open it and that he was afraid he might have te put a new lcd screen in which would cost me another 150 euro's. I cannot afford this, nor do i think it would be a smart move to do a 200 euro repair on this notebook..
now because the backlight went briefly on and then off, i am kind of hopeing the cable that connects the screen to the computer might be broken/not plugged in properly. I found a repair manual which makes me think i can change it myself, but: is there a way i can make sure what the defect is before trying to plug in a new cable? what kind of cable do i need, and where can i get this?
hope you guys can help me out!

    > A few days ago, the backlight of my l300 stopped to function properly.

    > Any idea's on what my next move should be?
Either its just a FL inverter issue or the display fault
The FL inverter controls the display backlight and therefore I think its FL inverter.
This is a small part hidden behind the plastic display frame.
I dont know ho much is it but its not very expensive like display itself.

  • Satellite L300 and Win 8 - how to activate Fn key for touchpad?

    Hi
How can I Activatet the Key FN+ F9 for the Touchpad under Windows 8.
My notebook is Satellite L300 (PSLB0E).
    Any Solution for me?
    Thx

Dont know exactly if this would be helpful because L300 is not Win 8 supported model but try to install the Value Added Package released for Win 8 system.
Such package can be found in driver download area belonging to newer Win 8 supported notebook series.

Please notify me how to do this and whether this is the reason why Aero effects doesn't work *or my pc doesn't meet the minimum requirements*.

    Hi
Firstly you should check if your Vista version would support Aero.
Windows Vista Home Basic doesnt support Aero.
So you need a higher version of Vista to use such feature
Please also check this Microsoft page: [Troubleshoot problems with Windows Aero|http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/c33fe91a-9e6f-41f4-ae82-3ed2d5fa2fbf1033.mspx#EZD]

  • How can i no which SATA driver do I need for Satellite L300-03C

How can i no which SATA driver do I need for Satellite L300-03C so i can do nlite

    Hi
Your notebook seems to be a Satellite L300-03C PSLB8C-03C01X.
As already suggested in your first thread visit the Toshiba Canada page and choose this notebook model on the driver page.
    http://209.167.114.38/support/Download/ln_bymodel.asp
Then download the Intel Matrix Storage Manager (SATA) - Floppy drive image. Its for Vista but the files in this package should work with Win XP too.
Include these files using nLite in order to create new Win XP disk containing the SATA drivers.
Finally use this disk for booting.

    Hi
Please check in your graphic card settings if the option: Full Screen (no border) has been chosen.
This can be found in Aspect Ration Options.
Ive got a U400 with Intel graphic chip and this option is available there.
Furthermore some notebooks support an additional BIOS option where the screen could be set to full screen (no borders)

  • Re: IMPORTANT - How to install Windows 2000 on a Satellite L300-16M (PSLB0E) ?

    Hello,
I'm an independent developper and absolutely need to install several operating systems on my *Satellite L300-16M (PSLB0E)* : it's very important for me because I've to check working of piece of software under every environment for real (not using solutions like VMware, for example).
Well, so, at this time, I've done an Acronis TrueImage backup of original full HDD, then deleted original WinRE and Data partitions, reduced and moved at beginning of disk the Vista partition... and installed System Commander 8 to prepare my future multi-boot. At this time, all sounds right : Vista works perfectly !
Also, note I've configured SATA in Setup BIOS to be in "Compatibility" mode ; just because I don't need AHCI in my type of use !
Second stage : now, *I have to install Windows 2000 Pro (SP4) FR*. Of course, I'm aware that the blocking point is the SATA/AHCI driver, wich is absent in the Win 2K CD... So, I've just made a new CD integrating these drivers using nLite ; at this time, I've tried using driver from Toshiba's XP Drivers page and Intel site about Intel 82801 HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controlleur (ICH8M).
But it doesn't work completely : the Win 2K install starts... All drivers are well loaded (including the AHCI ones) and just after this loading step, I get a black screen with just a blink cursor at top left of screen... indefinitively :-(
I've also tried to switch SATA to "AHCI" mode in BIOS and it's the same.
So, what to do next ?
Do I've used the wrong AHCI drivers ? Do I need to incorporate the maximum of Toshiba Drivers (about chipset, display, sound) in the Windows 2000 install CD using nLite ? I mean until the CD capacity is not reached.
Is there a way or tutorial to install Windows 2000 somewhere ? For XP, I think it will more easy because SP3 seems to support AHCI, but, just now, my problem is to install Windows 2000 : even if Microsoft wants to leave-it, there are a lot of professionals who still use-it... And my job, as developer, is to do my software works on this OS too ! *I really need to find a way to install it on this computer !!!*
Awaiting your lighted replies and all tips or idea which could help me to achieve the task.
In one word : HELP ! oops !

Thanks xaver, but I've already tried stormng-20070827133046.zip and it remains the same :(
About all driver ? Oh, in fact, I'll try to see if the XP ones work and if not I'll have a not-fully working Win 2K, but it will be enough for me to test my programs... I hope, at least, I'll be able to do display driver work !
Well, seeing I don't succeed using Intel/Toshiba drivers and nLite, I'm trying at this time to go through another way, installing Win2K in a VMware, then forcing install of the Toshiba AHCI driver, then doing a TrueImage of this and restauring in the Toshiba ! I'll see...
However, if someone has an idea, don't hesitate.
EDIT : I'm now at the step to try to force the Store Manager driver from Toshiba (the one given for this model under XP), launching iata_cd.exe and after some second I see a message saying that this OS (Windows 2000) is not supported by this driver... So, from now, I clearly know why this driver failed when I gone through the nLite-customized Win2K CD install directly on the Satellite :-(
So, this change the game : does it exist a Windows 2000 compatible driver for the Satellite L300-16M's AHCI Controller ??? This is the question !
If you have the answer, very thanks to tell me, of course...
