i just had a used ( iphone 3g 16gp ) and i did put my sim card (GSM - Mobinil - Egypt ) in it and it worked , but after i connected it to my PC itune program it asked me if want to update the IOS i clicked ok after sometime when tried to make it fully installed so i choose the languge English and the country Egypt and the third step is Activate it's concted to itunes , after a while , the itune program told me something like we couldn't see or recognize my SIN card , so how to activate IOS 6 on iphone 3g ,my network is GSM Mobinil, Egypt . I couldn't for some reason i don't know , can you help me?

That means you phone is not an iPhone 3G - probably a 3GS, which can run iOS 6

i have bought a factory unlocked iphone 3gs loaded with latest os 4.0 in usa for $850 , but i am unable to activate it over itunes.
I want to activate it without at&t sim as its factory unloacked.

If the iPhone had the 4.0 Beta loaded on it, the iPhone needs to be registered with a developer for the iPhone to even function. If it's not registered and the beta is installed then it is a brick. My friend got me an iPhone 3GS from Hong Kong (Model MC131ZP/A); and I am in India. This is the chain of events and the final problem.
1. When I first opened the iPhone I could see the home screen and use my SIM in India. Though there was no app for Camera or Compass etc on the home screen.
2. First time iPhone connected to iTunes and it told me that the OS must be updated. I went ahead.
3. I updated the OS to 3.1.2 (05.11.07).
4. After that it is not able to recognize the same SIM telling me that Invalid SIM.
5. I check the Serial Number of my phone on Apple Support site and it says that iPhone is not even activated.
6. I have tried contacting Apple support via mails etc. but no response at all.
I am not able to understand how it worked in the first place. Did the seller in HK unlock it using some kind of software? He should not if it is an Factory Unlocked phone. Are all the MC131ZP factory unlocked?
Can someone please help me on how to activate the phone or what is going wrong here?

yes verizon will activate it for you. as long as it is a verizon phone. id be a little careful dealing with ebay, so you dont get ripped off. make sure you know what you're buying. you can also have the person(s) send you the ESN number, then call verizon (might be a website also ?) to make sure it is legit.

First of all, your lost iPhone should had been enabled the 'Find My iPhone' before you lost it. If disabled, then there is nothing you can do to find the lost iPhone.

I bought a new Iphone 5S, and I want to activate it by restoring contents from my existing Iphone 5.
The problem is:
The new iPhone 5S is shipped with IOS 7.0.? and the restore image in ithe Cloud is 7.1, which apparently is not backwards compatible.
I'm stuck:
I cannot upgrade the IOS on the new iPhone before it is activated.
I cannot activate the new iPhone through a restore from the old iPhone.
I've given it a try for a week now, but Apple seems reluctant to help. It's a pity, because it's a new phone bought with good money.

Actually, what you need to do is this:
Activate & then update the new phone to iOS 7.1. Once done: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings. You'll now be able to restore it using your old backup.
Peck's post won't help you, as you need to update the phone first, then erase it.

I should also add: There's no pending downloads in the iTunes store on my device or App store. iMessage only works with devices compatable with it. Those devices are iOS devices on iOS 5 or newer, and Macs on Mac OS 10.7 and newer. Most likely those contacts that are showing text message do not have iPhones.

How to upgrade iOS on iPhone when disk iTunes is installed on is virtually full

I'm trying to upgrade iOS on my iPhone. The PC that I run iTunes on is old and as such the C: has only a 40GB capacity and us virtually full. I have a symlink set up which points the default iTunes backup folder at a secondary, larger internal hard drive and I can back up my iPhone without any issue and not rake up space on C: (thanks to the symlink). However, when I try to upgrade from iOS 4.3 to the latest, iTunes complains that I have no free space and the I should free up 5GB which I can't do! I've got 1TB of available space on my network but iTunes only looks at the local disk when upgradin, giving me a scary "you'll lose all you data" type message when I try to progress. What are my options here? Uninstall iTunes and reinstall it somewhere with more space? Back up my iPhone, let iTunes wipe my data then restore from backup? Get Apple to fix iTunes? Sell everything and go and live in a commune with no electricity? Anyone got any idea? Thx

OK, I took your advice and tried to delete some of the 'crap', uninstalled a bunch of things, got Windows to 'Compress old files' and woohoo I now have 8.3GB free.
Tried the upgrade again and there's no diskspace warning, however, iTunes throws a 1303 error when trying to backup and gives a 'Continue and you'll lose everything' message.
I can backup without a problem using the Backup Now button in iTunes, but when it tries to do it as part of the upgrade it fails.
So I'm back to square 1 really after hours of harddrive 'optimisation'. Any idea how I celar the 1303?
