How to activate PCM/no sound when plugging in a DAC converter

Hi,
I recently bought a couple of Audioengine A5+ speakers for my Lenovo G505s laptop, and now I wanted to add a DAC converter to this setup. I connect the DAC to my laptop via a 3.5mm/optical cable, and then an RCA cable from the DAC to my speakers' inputs. However, I get no sound.
Now, with my DAC (a FiiO D3, by the way) came a small note saying "Please set the digital output of the audio source to PCM, otherwise there will be noise or no sound". I think this is my problem, but no matter how I look in the settings of my computer, I cannot find anywhere to choose this setting. Could someone please guide me here?
Thanks!

Standard troubleshooting steps in the following order:
1. Reset: Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the apple logo, then release(ignore the slide to power off). If no change, proceed:
2. Restore your phone in itunes from your most recent backup. While this will restore a fresh OS, it will also restore the problem/problems if part of your backup. If no change, proceed:
3. Restore your phone as a "new" device in itunes & re-sync your itunes content. You will lose all saved data doing this.

  • No sound when plugging iPhone Headphones into 2009 13" Macbook Pro

If I visit the Preferences -> Sound configuration, in the Input tab is shows the microphone activity when I talk into the microphone portion of the ear buds. But there is no sound when playing music. Under both sections, Use audio port for: Headphones with Built-in External Mic.
It seems like it knows what I plugged in and seams to want to use it correctly, but I just get no sound. I've tried these ear buds in my iPhone and the sound comes out of the ear buds just fine.
I've tried another set of ear buds that don't have a mic built in, and those produce sound when plugged into the Macbook Pro and the "Use audio port for" is set to "Sound Output." This seems to be a problem with the earbuds that come with the new iPhones. They are the ear buds that also have a microphone in-line.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I'd really appreciate any help. I've played around with some setting to try and fix this. I've gone to audio midi setup and changed from 2-bit 16 to 2 bit 32 while the headphones are plugged in thinking that might have solved the problem after reading multiple forums, but that didn't help either.
I have Lion installed. 10.7.3. And it's a 2009 Macbook Pro 13" with only one external audio port.

Not sure about your iMac problem, but from reading about 16 different websites, this is a very widespread problem. I don't know how you ever got it to work, but everyone with a new 13" MBP with the combined audio port is saying that you have to use one of those special cables that has more "rings" around it like the iphone headphones that have a built in mic to use line in. Read this article http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1389284&highlight=audio+in+from+ste reo where there are a whole host of people complaining about this. Apparently there are some aftermarket parts you can get to solve this, but if I was you i'd make a trip to an apple store if thats possible, or pick up the phone and call them and confirm whether or not this should work. It seems they are advertising line in, and that is not possible without a combination cable. Either way I hope this helps you. Sorry I couldn't be of more help than this. Definitely opens my eyes about a combination port though. Please post back with your results, as I am considering buying a macbook air, and would like to know what i'm getting into if i'm using a combination port.

  • How to eliminate the "Ping" sound when starting and stopping videoing

How to eliminate the "ping" sound when starting and stopping a video on iPhone.  Thanks.

I asked my friends on Facebook and one came up with the answer... I just had to flip the little "ring-silent switch" on the side of the iPhone to cut the "Pinging" sound!  There's probably another way but this works!

  • How do you turn off sounds when using phone?

I know this question is not appropriate for this forum but I cannot find where it should go. I want to turn off the sounds when I am using my phone, e.g., when I am texting, each time I press a key it make a sound. If I turn down the volume then I cannot hear it ring so this is not the answer.
I have the Nokia 7020 phone. I cannot find any help in the userguide, only how to change ring tones. Anyone have any idea? Thank you.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

On my Lumia 900, it's under Settings -> ringtones+sounds, scroll to the bottom where there is a list of check boxes, and uncheck "Key press".  Not sure it's the same for your phone, though.

  • Buzzing sound when plugging in guitars

I've been getting this buzzing sound when I plug in any electric guitar or bass into my computer's audio input. This used to happen only when I used my telecaster, and I figured it was just the make, but now it's happening with my other electric and to basses to... it also varies in volume depending on the day.

Buzzing and hum can be caused by a lot of things. Your tele was probably getting the buzz from a single coil pickup.
First make sure it's not your guitar cable, it's a long wire just like a antenna and can pickup stray noises from RF and electromagnetic devices.
Bad ground in your guitar or bad solder joint guitar or cable.
Move things around lights, speakers, TVs, computers and just about anything electrical can cause noise.

  • How do i change default sound when using AirPlay Display on Mavericks

So i am using a TV with Apple TV attached as a second display for watching movies etc in the background
Everytime i turn on the setting to enable to the display, it sets the Apple TV as my default sound and i have to go to settings to manually re-select my speakers attached to my iMac. Is there anyway to change this so it leaves the sound from my Mac as the default sound when enabling the screen.

I looked into this a little more carefully.  It's not the Guest account.  It clearly indicates "Managed".
Searching for more information, this is something related to Parental Control, but I can't seem to get this account to take on the characteristics of either an administrator or user role.

  • How to stop iphone from autoplay when plug into car audio system usb?

how to stop iphone from autoplaying when connected to your car audio USB ?

You need to remove the association that Windows has with that particular file type. To do that, you need to open Windows Explorer. From there, click on Tools, then Folder options. Click on the tab that is named file types. You then need to find the extension for the photos that appear in the iPhone, then click that registered file type. Once you do that, there is a section to select the program to open that file type with. You can click on the change button, and that will allow you to change the program that it opens with, or restore the default. There is also a box that can be checked to always use the selected program. If you unselect it, it will prompt you next time on what program to use.
    Hope this helps.

  • Charger Buzzes when plugged into the Adapter Converter

Im in England currently (From the USA) and am using a "DYNEX" converter adapter to switch the electric current down so I can plug in/charge my Macbook Pro and iPad.
It works, however the charger buzzes pretty loudly and gets hot.
Thankfully I brought two, one started smelling like melted plastic and stopped charging altogether. That particular charger has faulted at home before (back in the USA), so I'm not sure if it died because of the converter or because it's just faulty.
I have plugged in the newer charger and it also buzzes, but I'm really worried to keep it plugged in because I don't want it to fault out too.
Is it normal for it to buzz like that when plugged into a converter adapter?
    Thanks!

The question again, why are you using a voltage converter?  The Apple charegers are all rated for 100-240 volts at 0-60 Hz...you only need a plug adapter to convert the US HEMA plug to the UK two round pin plug.
Adding a voltage converter is adding one more failure point into the system.
I have used mine all over Europe with no issues.

  • Iphone 4 makes an continuous intermittent vibration/buzzing sound when plugged into any of computer's 3 usb ports; does not show in itunes or Windows Vista device manager. No problem charging the phone with other power sources. What's going on?

This problem happened intermittently in the past but now happens every time I plug in the phone. I suspect it might be a problem with my computer, an Acer Aspire 4530, perhaps with it's charging function via usb ports? The phone makes the same buzzing sound twice when I connect to other power sources, but continues when connected to computer. I have this issue even when the phone is 100% charged.

  • Headphone Jack no sound when plugged in ?

music plays fine , when i plug in the jack the music stops (as normal) but no sound from headphones/jack ? pleas help thanks....

emeres wrote: Do you look for something like this?
I am not sure. I had a look at the code (I dont know Perl, though), and it seems that, in the end, all it does is issuing
    pacmd set-default-sink x
However, when I do this manually, it doesnt switch the sound to the other sink.
emeres wrote: I would check if udev recognizes that headphones are plugged in/out (udevadm monitor), create a rule and a script setting the default output via pacmd. Or create a systemd service, or your own script periodically checking the status.
Unfortunately, udev does not seem to detect plugging in or out
(udev monitor doesnt output anything when I plug headphones in or out).
However, I can see the change in pacmd list-sinks as described above.
When I set pulse log level to debug, I also get some output from there, indicating that it gets recognized:
D: [pulseaudio] module-alsa-card.c: Jack 'Front Headphone Jack' is now unplugged

  • X301 has no sound when plugged into port replicator

    Hi
    We have a x301 model 2777-cto with a port replicator model 45k1610.
We first had the issue with the blue screen and not lenovo SA or IBM could assist. I found the solution on here.
No i have a new problem. When the port replicator is plugged in, there is no sound on the machine? Once the port replicator is unplugged, the sound works fine?
Any ideas or tips will be much appreciated.
    Eugene
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

When you connect to the port rep, the audio should be routed to the audio port on the port rep by default, not your system. There should be a setting via the task bar icon for the port rep driver that sends the audio back to your sysetm jack.

  • Macbook Pro Retina - Weird sound when plug in adaptor

    Hi,
I have had my Macbook Pro Retina 15inch now for about a year and a half and suddenly it's making a sound whenever I plug it in. It's like the sound of a hard drive, but it's in sync with when I scroll up and down. There's no sound whenever it's unplugged, it's very strange. Any ideas, could it be a faulty adaptor?
    Thanks
    Lewis

It is better to take the computer to the Apple store and have it checked out.
If this does not help, contact Apple.
