How to activate search engine in CRM?

Hi Gurus,
We are trying to set up solution database in CRM 7.0. We were told that our TREX server is active (not sure how to confirm this). We checked in SICF, the TREX service is active though. However, while in CRMC_SAF_TOOL, the 'check search engine status' is on red light. The 'Check default customzing' is green light.
could you please help? What should we do to get this work? We know that without search engine up and running, we won't be able to publish and index problem/solutions to the Web UI.

Your Requirement can be implemented by OVS(Object Value selector) This is the custom search help .So that you can define on what basis the value has to be fetched.

You need to use the component WDR_OVS.
It has 3 phases
In phase 1
     You will fetch the value from input field to F4 help dialog box.
In phase 2
     You will generate the search results , in this phase look for the input value given in field 2 and accordingly generate search result for the field 3.
In phase 3
     The selected value will be returned to the original screen.

How to remove search engines ?

Hi ! In Firefox seems to be only the possibilty to ADD search engines but I can't find how to remove search engines. So for instance: Ask .com searchbar seems to be integrated in the Firefox S/W and not possible to remove, but pops up automatically. If this is the case I've to use another browser because I 've no intention to to use Ask.com. Pls comment! Wbr/ Rolf

i agree with u.
the sites like kayak, mobissimo are using spider tool to get data from other sites(airline site, etc..).
and they are using jquery with php pages. these sites are airline ticket booking sites.
my questions are:-
how can they get flight information without any GDS help?
can a spider program/tool fetch the realtime data?
i had experience in implementation of client side web services for GDS(worldspan,amadeus).
but i am not have any experience with travel meta search engine applications..
thats way a need help from seniors...

How to make search engine results lead to a specific slide

Through Google Analytics I found that a search in Bing for a particular item took the user to my page. The third slideshow, one of three tabbed slideshows on that page, is the default and shows first. The user promptly left my site because this wasn't what they were looking for. Instead, if possible for that search should land on the slide contained within the second slideshow. The search results in Bing showed the caption for the correct slide. Is there any way to make sure they then go directly to the correct slide? I tried to add anchors to the individual slides or captions but couldn't make it work. Would that even help?

Thats easy. How many links from each engine do you want, do you want to allow duplicate results (i.e. google and yahoo both reporting the same URL in a listing)?
Do your own search on Google, Yahoo, etc. Look at the HTML code (typically a table) and look for unique tags or IDs that surround the URL. Google and Yahoo incorporate Click-Streaming into their search result URLs. That is, they don't provide the direct URL, but rather reference it within their own redirector which is simply a CGI program designed to count page hits and by what keyword and then simply redirect your browser to the actual page.
If you can find out what that redirecting URL is, just filter the HTML that you get from these search engines for that URL and then you know where the URL starts and stops.
Doing some further research will show you how to extract the actual URL from the redirecting URL. Just look at the URL and remove the www.google.com or yahoo.com from the begining and strip out all of the CGI that comes after it until you get to another URL.
Example: http://search.google.com/redirector?this-is-google=true&url=www.some-server-that-you-want.com
First off, we now know where within the HTML a link starts, and doing a little more filtering, we can throw out the "search.google.com" and the first CGI of "this-is-google&url=" and then simply read and file the "www.some-server-you-want.com"

When a site is not found from a main bar entry (not searchbar) how to change search engine

If you type 'not found item' into the main url address bar (not into the search bar), then firefox defaults to google.com and shows you the entry there. How can I change the search engine used by default there? - It is not related to the 'top' search engine you set for the search bar...so I am hoping there is somewhere else it is set rather than hard-coded?

How to manage search engines in Firefox 34.0.5???

I have been using Firefox for sometime now but the latest version has messed up the search bar. I have already seen quite a few posts related to this but no of them fix my current problem.
I use and addon called 'add to search' it allows me to take search bars on many websites and add them as search engines. It also allows you to set keywords for the different search engines. In version 33 and lower when you click manage search engines it is possible to shift the order of the search engines, edit their keywords, remove them and even rename them. With the update to version 34.0.5 all this functionality is lost. The keywords still operate, but I am unable to edit them or remove/rename search engines I have added. Does anyone know how this can be done? I would like to be able to change the keywords and I would also like to be able to remove search engines I have added and at this point Mozilla has made that hard.
Any ideas?

I updated my firefox recently. It used to be that when I used the search bar with google as a search engine, it would take me directly to the local google, i.e. google UK or Denkmark etc.. There are various open source search engines (notably HT://Dig) if you look for them. There are also quite a few people who offer search services on your site with their engine (such as google and Atomz.) It is probably easier to do this than to work on the epic job of writing your own.

I just took a look at the search.ini file in my Opera 11.00 installation, Firefox has no way to process that information. Firefox uses Open Search & Sherlock search plugins, that are in the XML format. It looks like Opera has its' own format for search "plugins", rather than using "standard" plugins that most other browsers use.
You can create your own Open Search Plugins from the data contained in that search.ini file using the instructions here. <br />

With the update to firefox 26, another bunch of search engines I will never used were added to my browser. In earlier versions a search engine could be disabled in the addons menu, but that doesn't work any more... Is there any way to remove twitter, bing,... in this version of firefox?

This is really poor = and as the OP mentions it used to be possible. I've promoted firefox to others since version 2 or so, uninstalled now.
